Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

Readyforsunshine - you could add the recipe to the "Desserts and others sweet things Recipe thread" Smile It's not stickied at the moment so it's a wee bit down the threads - but adding a recipe would help bump it Grin

The ingredients sound Boot Camp Light compatible.

Just remember to attribute where you got the recipe from (or were inspired by).

ShagMeRiggins · 29/05/2019 09:22

La la la, i can't hear you Grin

It’s good you don’t want to try those rolls starsky and I definitely don’t highly recommend the peanut sauce with the crystal rolls and I wouldn’t dream of suggesting the nuoc cham sauce with the pork rolls is the food of the Gods.

I don’t go to Pho that often, maybe every 3 months, usually when we’re in town seeing a show. Maybe it can be something you plan to try/integrate in the maintenance phase.

With LCHF as a lifelong way of eating, I know that in future, maintenance for me will be allowing myself certain foods—special dishes from certain restaurants, or trying new local food when travelling—that I can’t get anywhere else and that are worth the carb count on a rare occasion.

I can’t live off those Vietnamese rolls like I used to when I went to Kim Ba three times a week (back in the day).

Hi all, so lovely to hear how your all doing.
Back from exhausting weekend moving dd out of her apartment in France, how do they accumulate so much crap 😀 we were very fortunate as the lovely British airways check in staff let us put some hand luggage in the hold on our flight back.
It was a really challenging 4 days food wise, realised in the taxi to the airport that I had left my total Greek yogurt and cauliflower mash at home , I managed to stay on plan but probably did not actually eat enough fat or food, but have managed to loose 1/2 lb and enjoy my time away. I was really good at drinking loads of water though and managed to have my first butter coffee which was excellent and celeriac mash which I could easily eat every day.

We have a weeks holiday in 1 and a half weeks so I desperately trying to shift a few more lbs, hopefully I will if I stick to it and Koko .
Today
1 cup of tea with milk
B total Greek yogurt, coffee with butter
L homemade frittata made with feta cheese and green beans
1 cup of tea or a coffee with milk when I’m out
D chicken, celaric mash and green veg or a cottage pie if I get time ( I am working today )

P.s I think you could make a lovely cottage pie with celaric mash instead of potatoes

Finally checking in after a very busy long weekend. Food went off plan a bit but I'm loosing again a tiny bit and that's even with my period making me feel hideous. Went to IKEA yesterday, very fed up about no meatballs or daim cake, held out and had an open prawn sandwich without the bread and extra salad, there wasn't any other option! They had salmon on the menu but there wasn't any once I got there.
However, treated myself to a but of dark choc, couldn't be bothered with dinner as just wasn't hungry, despite the tiny lunch.
Planning on a day of putting up shelves, sorting DDs pit of despair room and attempting some exercise.. Have a hula hoop so going to try that! Still can't run, been weeks now, I used to get up to 15 mile a week so I know it does make a difference, desperate to get back to it.

prettybird · 29/05/2019 09:41

I make a mash with (well cooked) neeps (swede) and/or celeriac with an extra egg, some Parmesan and cream or Greek yoghurt all blitzed together in the good processor.

Dh loves it on top of a shepherd's pie mince base - and I'm not even sure that ds realises that it's not real mash with potatoes Grin

venusandmars · 29/05/2019 09:43

@notwatchingtvtoday well done on your eating choices while away. I remember the look on my dd's face when we were out in her home town and I picked up a knob of butter and stirred it into my coffee. She obviously thought I'd made a mistake and was staring with her mouth open, not sure whether to laugh at me or worry that I'd become senile Grin

I'm travelling with work for a couple of days:
B - Creamed spinach, fried egg
L - salad with anchovies and avocado, rhubarb fool
D - no idea.... will have to wait and see, but I know it won't include bread, potato, pasta or rice.

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 10:10

Good morning everyone 🌷

Well done to everyone for keeping on keeping on!

I’m sad today. Really trying hard not to be swallowed up by it. I’m going to get a couple of chores done as per handy guide posted upthread - it really is just a matter of working through it.

Lunch will likely be fried egg, bacon and tomato. Will have a shitload of veg in the evening to make up for lack at lunch.

Don’t know what we will have for dinner. Either a chicken curry or something with beef/pork mince.

ShagMeRiggins · 29/05/2019 10:17

Nink, chores are good as they offer a sense of accomplishment, but I recommend some—any—form of physical exercise, preferably out of the house.

It’s such a cliché, but could you have a 30-minute walk somewhere pretty?

venusandmars the butter thing made me smile. I’d certainly raise an eyebrow!

notwatchingtv in my mind, any time in France is a good time.

Well done everyone for being mindful.

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 10:23

Yes I find the distraction factor of my hands being busy helps a lot, plus you get the sense of achievement when you’re done, and you’ve cleared some mental and physical clutter. 👍👍

I’ll go for a walk at some point too, although it’s pretty grey and gloomy here.

MumbleLumble · 29/05/2019 10:26

I hope this is okay to post but for those interested in lo dough, it's free delivery on your first order with code SHIP4FREE.

Im not really a coffee drinker, but I needed something to replace my morning sugary tea, so decided to try a coffee with cream. I can't believe I've been missing out all this time. Delicious!

For the first time in my life I'm not hungry for breakfast. I'm normaly one of those people who feels sick and fainty if I don't eat within an hour of waking up.

Youwanapizzame · 29/05/2019 10:28

Nink Flowers - a walk sounds like a good plan if you can.

b - sausage and bacon
l - cheese salad with a teensy spoon of picalili
d - pork - the return....

Wearing a previously too small dress with no pull me in knickers! Doesnt look totes amazing but isnt obscene... which is would have been last week :)

Hope you all have a nice day X

ShagMeRiggins · 29/05/2019 10:46

I’ll go for a walk at some point too, although it’s pretty grey and gloomy here.

Pretend you’re Merle Oberon starring in Withering Heights, Nonk. That oughta cheer you right up.

(As should being called Nonk. Ffs. Hmm)

ShagMeRiggins · 29/05/2019 10:55

Nink (nailed it!) here’s another pick-me-up for you: was feeling gloomy and tired yesterday and decided to “enhance” my colouring with a bit of Rimmel Sun Shimmer Instant Tan for that beach look.

Overdid it. Here’s the comparison shot, Sun shimmer skin colour v Real skin colour. Grin

Ps—I am still in bed and loving it. God bless half term.

Waswittyonce · 29/05/2019 11:28

@Ninkaninus Another one here advocating a walk, or if that's not possible, getting a long put off job done and off your mind Thanks
I made diet doctor's chicken curry with cauliflower rice last night, it's lovely if you like creamy dishes. The recipe calls for chicken thighs, broccoli, green beans and fresh chilli. I had none of those so substituted chicken breast chunks, asparagus and the half a pointed cabbage I had left in the fridge, and a generous shake of dried chilli flakes. It was lovely and I will Def make it again. It was nice last time I made it following the recipe properly, but it was a bit bland and DH is not that keen on chicken thighs. I think the curry paste I use (tesco own) is a bit thin, I used up the rest of the jar last night and it made all the difference. Lidl do a nice tinned coconut milk (Freshona) and it's a staple in my kitchen now Grin

m0therofdragons · 29/05/2019 11:33

My office has a constant flow of cake! Seriously it's ridiculous. I'm ignoring them and am not even hungry Grin

BIWI · 29/05/2019 12:17

@Notwatchingtvtoday there is a recipe for Shepherd's Pie on the recipe thread that uses celeriac mash!

1Wildheartsease · 29/05/2019 12:24

Birthday yesterday... so did have some red wine and a gin with soda water.

A meal out in a Turkish restaurant was pretty easy to keep low carb. (Although it meant avoiding the bread ,there was so much else to enjoy that didn't seem a hardship). -Too full for dessert anyway but a coffee with cream made a lovely finish.

I love the way this way of life.

1Wildheartsease · 29/05/2019 12:26

cauli mash is good on shepherd's pie too.

MasterFlamingo · 29/05/2019 13:30

Ooh m0ther cake-fest is occuring in my office too. There have been three birthdays so far this week which has resulted in all kinds of goodies being stowed right next to the water dispenser, which obviously I am having to visit regularly. Curiously I'm not that bothered.

ShagMeRiggins · 29/05/2019 14:05

WATER WATER WATER!!! Grin

m0therofdragons · 29/05/2019 14:12

@MasterFlamingo I wouldn't mind if it was birthday related. It's daily bake off here... nhs office Grin

Luckily my boss is super healthy so doesn't put any pressure on as he doesn't have cake anyway. I'm not craving it so looks like my sweet tooth is under control.

Breakfast- Greek yoghurt
Lunch - leaves with Brie and salted beef slices
Dinner - salmon and stir fry veg

Youwanapizzame · 29/05/2019 15:38

My lovely lovely colleague is going on mat leave next week so we are going out for lunch tomorrow... Its a thai place. I can't see the menu online but what sort of thing would be good...

Rshard · 29/05/2019 15:48

Some good advice nink, hope you’re feeling a bit perkier.

The cake is a constant feature in my office too m0ther and flamingos, sometimes samosas which is easier as I don’t like them!

I’ve got a meatzza for dinner tonight - can’t wait to try it!

Ninkaninus · 29/05/2019 15:50

I’m feeling much better, thank you, and thanks for the support everyone!

BIWI · 29/05/2019 17:12

Oh God @Youwanapizzame Thai is really difficult! When we go to our local, my 'go to's are chicken satay to start (but beware as the peanut dip and vinegar dips are pretty sweet), and then Crying Tiger (sometimes called Weeping Tiger) for a main course, with stir-fried vegetables.

The steak itself should be pretty low carb here's a sample recipe for it , but again you'll need to watch the dipping sauce.
