Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

I forgot to weigh in again for the third week in a row! Food was a bit of disaster today. I usually skip breakfast because I have sky high cortisol levels in the morning and intermittent fasting stops my insulin levels going out of whack. We went to Warwick Castle for the day only the place we went for lunch had run out of salad Hmm and only had carby options. So I ended up with just a bag of almonds to keep me going until 3.30 p.m. when we stopped at a service station and I had two pieces of KFC with the coating pulled off.Envy Hardly the epitome of a healthy diet! I was very glad to get home and have some proper food at last. I had a roasted duck breast with stir fried beansprouts (only 2% carbs) which made a nice noodly effect. So not a great day of food but at least I avoided carbs and hopefully tomorrow's meals will involved a few more vegetables.

ilovecherries · 27/05/2019 20:49

0.5 down this week, but my ankles look a bit swollen (have driven about a 1000 miles - no exaggeration - this week so hoping I will get rid of that over the next couple of days).

Notlostjustexploring · 27/05/2019 21:23

I've decided my bootcamp starts today, and not when I actually started it. I've been trying to take a long hard look at my behaviour and why I was struggling to stick to bootcamp this time. I think my conclusion is that it is a sort of arrogance combined with a dash of just not giving a toss. I did the previous bootcamp, lost a pleasing amount and was expecting the same to happen instantly. But because it was my second rodeo, I was already bending, nay breaking, rules. My infractions include drinking squash instead of water, drinking several diet cokes a day, eating lots of coleslaw that I knew was too high in the carb count, adding little bits of sweet sauces to things because, you know, it's only a little. By Thursday I had basically fallen into all the food. And I wonder why I wasn't losing this bootcamp....Hmm

I also had a little spell of sulking about adult life. Life is lovely at the moment, there is nothing wrong, but I was just having a bit of a rebellious huff about having to do dishes and laundry and couldn't be bothered with thinking about what I wanted to eat, and my inner adolescent won that round. I also realise how ridiculous it is.

Shag I know you said you felt like the school snitch, but you made a very good point and it hit home.

BIWI Thank you for taking the time to respond to everyone. You have the patience of a saint. The spreadsheet links was one of the first places I started looking when I was huffing and looking for any excuse to jump off bootcamp. That spreadsheet and the information really is a thing of beauty and wonder.

I now sheepishly declare my bootcamp start.

Again, thank you for the thread. Whenever I'm wavering I usually check the thread and if someone like cherries or toots or someone else with a massive success under their belt posts or someone shares their NSV, I really get a boost and keeps me on the straight and narrow. So thank you, and keep sharing!!

@Notlostjustexploring sounds like you're having a bit of a tough time. Well done for realising what you'd been doing though. And good luck getting back into the saddle! Flowers

B: meatballs. Hmm
L: fried cabbage in butter, half avocado, smoked salmon, yogurt.
D: scrambled eggs with cheese, butter fried mange tout.
S: 2 cups of coffee with cream, 1 mug tea with milk.

Youwanapizzame · 28/05/2019 07:02

Morning campers!

Back to work today boooooooo

B - sausage w bacon
L- leftover dinner and salad
D-slow cooked pork with roast cauliflower and Brussels and maybe creamed leeks

Have a good day all!!! :)

Youwanapizzame · 28/05/2019 07:04

@notjustexploring sometimes adulting is horrid. The temptation to stamp our feet and tell NO is overwhelming. But you're here now. KOKO as seasoned bootcampers say x

Nameusernameuser · 28/05/2019 07:12

I've gained 4lbs, god knows what's going on there. Actually a bit fuming because I've been so good, but will leave it a few days and see if it sorts itself out Confused

MrsBertBibby · 28/05/2019 07:53

Morning! Another .5 down this morning, a little surprise as I didn't think I had drunk much water yesterday.

No idea what food I will be eating, bank holiday garden project and surprise aged parents meant I missed the supermarket run and it all went a bit Pete Tong there as my lovely partner who did it solo is sadly lacking in the psychic telepathy department.

Onwards!

Rayna37 · 28/05/2019 08:33

Nameusernameuser if you honestly don't know why you've gained I'd suggest listing a few days food here to see if we can spot anything that's going wrong. Or at least, go back and read all 10 rules and try another week on full bootcamp.

m0therofdragons · 28/05/2019 08:37

Okay, I'm back and focused. 2lbs down since Thursday and Saturday blow outs so I think some was water retention. Still 2lbs off where I was a week ago. I'm meeting friends for a pub dinner tonight so I looked on the website for the menu so I could come up with a plan... no menu! I'm driving so I can easily avoid alcohol and plan to be too full for a dessert (might have a coffee instead). I'm determined I won't be pushed of track by this! Family event is 4 weeks with skinny Australian family reunion. I'll still be the fat one because they're all size 6 but that's beside the point!

Summery1 · 28/05/2019 08:40

I'm down 1.5 today so I updated the spreadsheet to a 2 lb loss for the week (instead of .5 lb).
That's 5.5 overall for me - unheard of.
KOKO
I must look at some recipes so as not to get bored.
And water!

Nameusernameuser · 28/05/2019 08:42

@Rayna37 definitely going to do bootcamp again and not move to bootcamp light.
I'll list my last 2 days where I've gained weight.
B; 2 egg omelette with a slice of bacon and black coffee.
L; 3 tablespoons of Greek yoghurt, 2 roasted chicken thighs with mange tout, roasted broccoli and cauliflower.
D; minute steak and salad with olives and olive oil dressing. Also 4 litres of water (only need 3 for bootcamp).
B; Greek yoghurt
L; sausage (I know not really allowed but they were butchers 100% pork) pan fried spinach and kale
D; Spanish frittata with shallots, leftover chicken thigh and green pepper. Again drank all my water! Pretty sure I had garlic olives aswell, and mini cocktail sausages Grin
DP has Crohn's and never ever gains weight but said he had gained some this morning, don't know how much as he's at work now but maybe it's my scales (I say hopefully). I'd like to say I'm pretty clued up on the rules but something has gone wrong somewhere! Aunt flow also not due for another 10 days Hmm

devoncreamtea · 28/05/2019 08:47
  • I found your post very humbling, thanks for being so honest. I can totally relate to feeling huffy about being in charge of all the boring stuff - I sometimes feel ‘why doesn’t anyone ever look after meeee!!!!’. Good luck on your first day of boot camp! Wink
devoncreamtea · 28/05/2019 08:48

Oops that was aimed at notlostjustexploring

RocketPockets · 28/05/2019 09:00

As I was on holiday last week I'm kind of treating this as another week 2 if that's ok?
Weighed myself this morning (forgot to yesterday!) and I'm back to my pre holiday weigh and a little bit extra off so 11st 2.2lb.
About to have breakfast which is gonna be some asparagus & prosciutto (new favourite breakfast!).
I need to go shopping as we don't have an awful lot of food in for dinner but I'm covered for lunch, egg & chicken salad.
Off to plan my meals for the rest of the week Smile

m0therofdragons · 28/05/2019 09:02

Breakfast Greek yoghurt
Lunch - lettuce, turkey and cheese grated
Dinner - pub dinner?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/05/2019 09:40

Really don't think I'm going to get a chance to weigh myself today so updated with Friday's weight instead. Hopefully a bit more has come off since then!

KooMoo · 28/05/2019 09:41

Been hectic this end.

Missed yesterday’s weigh in. Just weighed and up to 149lbs from 146lbs. Hard to believe as not been that naughty; but I did have a glass of wine oh poured me and some nuts yesterday.

I feel my portions are too large generally. Back on it!

MumbleLumble · 28/05/2019 09:56

NotLost, I can totally relate to your post re throwing a strop over the daily adulting. Sometimes it just feels like it's never ending. I would often think about how much I've got to do and just eat crap to make myself feel better or as a reward. I'm finding it really hard not to do that now. Well done with being honest with yourself and good luck!

I weighed myself again this morning and I've lost another 0.2lb. 10.8lb altogether! I'm now 11st8lb which is the lightest I have been for a long time! I still haven't had breakfast and not sure what to have. The only shopping delivery slot I could get was 7-9pm and there's not much food in the house.

Rshard · 28/05/2019 10:10

Loved your honesty notlost, thanks for posting.

venusandmars · 28/05/2019 10:23

@MumbleLumble the lo-dough tasted of nothing really, which was great for putting all the lovely pizza toppings on, but I can't see myself using them for much else. The recipe book has all kinds of suggestions about using them as replacement wraps, tortilla chips etc but I'd rather just have the filling.

Today's food:
B - coffee with cream
L - avocado salad and anchovies
D - omelette with cheese, mushrooms, spinach, then rhubarb fool (made with rhubarb, ginger, orange zest and double cream)

Which reminds me of one of my favourite witticisms: - the difference between knowledge and wisdom: knowledge is knowing that tomato is a fruit and rhubarb is a vegetable, wisdom is knowing which one you eat with custard Grin No custard here, but essentially a vegetable pudding!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/05/2019 10:49

@venusandmars I've been eyeing up the lo-dough, thought it may make a less rich alternative to the fathead dough from time to time.

TheWaiting · 28/05/2019 11:29

Notlost, I can totally relate. I feel as though because I only work p/t and DH works f/t then everything else is down to me. Not just general childcare/house work; because he does actually do his share of those but all the admin inc school admin, (parties, trips, play dates, permission slips, non bloody uniform days) and household admin such as making sure stuff is paid when it should be and researching and booking holidays and booking kids haircuts and dental appointments and making sure their shoes still fit etc. Sorry...you’ve led me into a rant. 😫 Glad you’ve recognised the problem and fingers crossed you can get over the blip. Having done BC before then at least you know it works which must help with motivation.

B: Turkey rashers with melted feta
L: (will be) tuna salad
D: chicken cheese and olive bake

Have a good day everyone!

18pagesfrontandback · 28/05/2019 11:35

Morning campers Brew

Day late posting and still need to update spreadsheet and for last week but will do it in a bit when have laptop out. Up a pound to 165.2lb this week. Which is possibly worse than it sounds because I was expecting to see a couple off this week. I’m ok with this as I’ve not been as good as I should this weekend. I’m grateful it’s not worse!

Succumbed to lots of wine on Saturday - which definitely was emotional drinking. Haven’t had a great week (doggy health woes/family woes/house woes) and by Saturday had got a bit overwhelmed with it all and the temptation to fall into a bottle of wine for some escapism from RL was too convincing. Because that always fixes things Hmm

The plus side is that because I’ve only drunk alcohol twice since Christmas, and because of LC tolerance, I’m still suffering for it now! So don’t think I’ll be repeating that in a hurry. I feel a bit poisoned actually . If nothing else it was a good reminder about why I decided to stop drinking in the first place.

But onwards and upwards/downwards and will KOKO. After a long weekend of disruption am really looking forward to being at home and getting back into my usual routine with food/drink. Bring me all the veg and all the water and a BM please.

Has been great catching up with posts. Love reading everyone’s stories and all the advice and support Flowers
Hope you had a lovely week herding with your visitors instead of us cats BIWI Grin
