Week 3 - Sumer 19 Low Carb Bootcamp - Bootcamp Light?

BIWI · 27/05/2019 08:09

Morning all. Today sees the start of week 3, which is when you can, if you wish, move on to Bootcamp Light. This means you can now introduce some fruit, some nuts and seeds and alcohol in moderation.

Note the bold formatting!

However you don't have to move on to Bootcamp Light if you don't want to. If it's working for you, then by all means stay on Bootcamp. Some people choose to do Bootcamp during the week but take a more relaxed approach at the weekend.

Here are carb counts for fruit - you can see that most of them are pretty high. These are taken from Sainsbury's website and show the amount of carbs per 100g:

Canteloupe melon 4
Raspberries 4.6
Blackberries 5.1
Galia/Honeydew melon 5.3
Passion fruit 5.8
Strawberries 6.1
Watermelon 6.8
Peach 7.5
Plums 8.8
Papaya 8.8
Nectarine 9
Blueberries 9.1
Pineapple 10.1
Kiwi 11
Apples 11.8
Mango 14.1
Lychees 14.3
Grapes 17
Pomegranate seeds 18.7
Banana 23.2

When it comes to nuts and seeds, these too vary widely:

Brazils 3.1
Walnuts 3.3
Pine nuts 4 (but beware - toasted pine nuts are 10)
Macadamias 5.3
Pecans 5.8
Desiccated coconut (technically a fruit!) 6.4
Almonds 6.9 (smoked almonds are 7.7)
Monkey nuts 9.3
Peanuts (salted) 10.9
Fresh coconut (from the chilled cabinet) 15.2
Cashews 18.1

(These carb counts for either salted or unsalted)

Seeds:

Sesame 0.9
Poppy 4.7
Chia 8.6
Pumpkin 15.2
Sunflower 16.4

As far as alcohol is concerned, the best drinks are clear spirits (gin/vodka/whisky/rum) but you need to be careful what mixer you're using. Soda is by far the best option, but if you want something else, you'll need to go down the artificial sweetener route to keep the carbs low.

Dry white wine and Champagne are OK, and red wine. Avoid beer and cider.

I blame @StuntNun - she mentioned the Aldi ones a couple of weeks ago!

Youwanapizzame · 30/05/2019 21:38

@mrsbertbibby!!! You've not lived!! They're awesome

TheWayOfTheWorld · 30/05/2019 21:45

And well done for resisting @MrsBertBibby Smile

Tinkerbellx · 30/05/2019 21:52

Hi
May I join please ?
Can I join on here or is there a thread I can't see for newbies please ?

Tia .

MrsFionaCharming · 30/05/2019 22:56

Thank you all for the drink suggestions, will pick up supplies tomorrow and continue forcing the water down until then.

Just wanted to share my motivation picture, me trying on the same wedding dress 12 months apart. In the right hand picture (from last year) I’m in a size 16, and it fits. In the left hand picture I’m in a size 12 and it’s too big!

I didn’t go for this dress in the end, but I love how well the photos illustrate my progress. Only 10 more lb to go!

Awesome motivation picture Charming and you look gorgeous in both pics Flowers

m0therofdragons · 31/05/2019 00:24

@MrsFionaCharming you have an amazing shape at both 16 and 12! You look fabulous Thanks

Summery1 · 31/05/2019 00:50

Brunch: 2 poached eggs with ham spinach and peppers.
2 coffee with cream
Dinner: roast chicken, spinach, homemade ceaser type dressing (oil yogurt lemon anchovies wostershire garlic). Meant to make a chicken ceaser, but forgot the Romaine.
Swam this evening.

blackteaplease · 31/05/2019 06:32

@Tinkerbellx this is the thread for you. Read the rules on the spreadsheet and then join us.

I've been extra good this week and have almost shifted the 5lbs! I gained from the camping blowout. It was definitely not worth it.

I was a bit lax on water yesterday as I was supervising a hedge removal to check there were no nesting birds and there were no toilets to be seen. It was also out in public so I couldn't do a wild wee. On it today.

readyforsunshine · 31/05/2019 06:58

You look great in both photos Mrs! V motivating though, have you lost it all lo carbing?
Welcome tinkerbell!
Yesterday was bacon mushrooms & fried egg
Chicken & Parma ham Caesar
Blackberry & chocolate protein smoothie
Chicken cacciatore, too late & too tired to bother with veg.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 31/05/2019 07:21

Yesterday was
B: 2 boiled eggs
L: Spinach soup and a slice of crustless quiche
D: in a pub with a friend - starter of portabello mushroom topped with bacon and stilton - main of gammon and veg. Gorgeous!

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/05/2019 07:43

MrsFiona fab motivation pictures !

Feel much happier today , a sneaky weigh in shows a loss , just need to KOKO

Needs more veg and water today ( note to self : and less wine , a bit head achy this morning , I only had 2 glasses of white but I guess the no stodgy carbs means the effects are greater )

Adds buttermint teabags to list

Sets water alerts on phone

StuntNun · 31/05/2019 08:03

What on earth do Starbucks put in their almond milk? I usually drink black coffee but Starbucks coffee is so awful I thought I would try a latte to disguise the taste of the coffee. I'm dairy intolerant so I opted for an almond milk latte but it was so sweet I couldn't finish it.

m0therofdragons · 31/05/2019 08:09

Damage recovered from, back at where I was a week ago. Now it's time for that number to go down. 7lbs off is the target!

prettybird · 31/05/2019 08:13

Welcome @tinkerbellx Smile

Read the rules in the Spreadsheet ( BIWI forgot to put it in the OP so it's a few posts later at 8.24).

If you want to go onto the Weigh In sheet (which is not compulsory), ask @AthelstaneTheUnready to put you on.

You might find it useful to go back and read the Week 1 and Week 2 threads for inspiration and extra advice.

Rshard · 31/05/2019 08:14

Beautiful photos mrsfionacharming!

Think I must be the only one who didn’t like the butter mint teabags!

Flowersandthorns · 31/05/2019 08:17

I am so pleased to have found this thread! I have been struggling to lose more than 1/2 a stone for months but since starting LCHF have lost 3 lbs in a few days. I also am enjoying the food and can't believe that it actually works!! Can I ask what KOKO stands for? Also I have a problem today and was wondering if anyone has a solution. I am going to an event later and the only food option is fish and chips followed by ice cream!! I don't want to undo the last few days work with one meal! Help please Smile

TheWaiting · 31/05/2019 08:42

@MrsFionaCharming, you look great in both pictures. Even at a size 16 you look good.

@MrsBertBibby, I’m not veggie but I don’t eat red meat or eggs so I’m also struggling a little with ad-hoc meals.

I’m trying to stay focused today. This time last week I fell off the wagon and I’m determined not to let that happen again. I must up my water intake too. It’s slipped back these last few days and I can tell.

Happy Friday everyone!

TheWaiting · 31/05/2019 08:44

@Flowersandthorns, I think it stands for Keep on keeping on. As in keep motivated and keep going. Smile

Notwatchingtvtoday · 31/05/2019 08:46

Morning all, great to hear how your all doing and lovely photos mrsfionacharming
flowers welcome, if it was me I would probably try to eat before hand and then if I was hungry just eat some of the fish from the middle, so none of the batter and just not have the ice cream, I think once you get in the swing of things you really don’t want to derail yourself and the thing I have learned if that if you eat carbs with high fat you gain weight rapidly. Try to concentrate on drinking loads of water and also observe how many of the slim people say no to the ice cream 😀

biwi thank you for the recipe prompt, we had shepherds pie last night and was delicious. I have been thinking of your kitchen work, we did the same several years ago. Our builder built us a temporary kitchen in the dinning room, I basically had a few of the old units and a kitchen table. I would really recommend looking at how you can create something like that, maybe borrow or use a camping kitchen type scenario. The thing is you still need to be able to put food away and find things, so if you can be organised with a food cupboard, crockery, cutlery etc it will make it much easier on you all. If kitchen units are unusable maybe some plastic boxes. Don’t forget building dust gets everywhere. I ended up with my fridge, a microwave, a electric steamer that you could stir fry in as well and a plug in little oven, I also had a panini maker that you could cook on. We could not easily get in the garden and it was Feb/March/April so a bit chilly for bbq.
I think if I was doing it again a portable hob, microwave, kettle and an Instant Pot (electric pressure cooker) which is fantastic would easily get me through. I found the cooking bit not too bad, it was the washing up in the bath that was horrid, so maybe a couple of washing up bowls if you end up with no sink.

Hope that helps x

TheWayOfTheWorld · 31/05/2019 08:47

@Flowersandthorns eat something beforehand, have some handy snacks in your bag, eat the fish but not the batter or chips, serve the ice-cream

@MrsFionaCharming great photographs!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 31/05/2019 08:47

Gah, swerve the ice-cream, not serve it Blush

Flowersandthorns · 31/05/2019 09:02

Thanks for your help and for welcoming me! I will chant KOKO, KOKO over and over and not eat the chips and batter! Eating beforehand is a good idea so I'll back through the thread to find some fridge free snacks. I can do this!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/05/2019 09:29

Can anyone recommend a good drink a glass of water reminder to go on a phone ?

Almahart · 31/05/2019 09:44

had a great meal last night - fried some grated cauliflower with olives and and egg mixed in - so stir fried cauliflower rice and added a new thing I found in M&S near the rollitos - squid and chorizo in a smoky tomato sauce. Was delicious

Had a glass of wine at a friends and then another two glasses and some cheese (no carbs) in a wine bar last night

Really want to be super strict from now on. Am happy that I’ve lost so far but am not back into the clothes I love yet
