So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

I think I've made it on the spreadsheet twice - once with an o and once with 0 in M0ther. Sorry!

My cold beef was off this morning so my lunch is cauliflower with some cheddar on top Confused I'll need to add something but hopefully M&S will be able to provide something! This is poor planning for me! Will not allow myself to feel hungry as that's when I binge!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 14/05/2019 11:08

BIWI thank you for always being here 🌷

Hi friends old & new 😊

(Sorry, long post, feel free to scroll on past!!)

I have been being a Carby Twat Blush. I’m
a T2 diabetic, so my blood sugars & blood pressure are sky high again. I need to get them under control before my next appointment or my doctor is going to lock me in the surgery until I’m prepared to take meds. I’m not, so I need to low carb.

It’s not helping that I can barely walk at the moment, I’m off to the hospital today for an X-ray. I HAD been doing well on the walking side of things and I’m really missing it.

I’m not bothering with the spreadsheet as it wants me to do stuff with google that I don’t want to do and I don’t need to be on it.

My main motivation should be my blood sugars & blood pressure returning to normal range. However, it’s really not being pressured to take medication, my (diabetes related) candida fucking off to the far side of fuck, not having to get up to wee in the night (diabetes related) and just generally feeling less like shit.

They’re all improved by weight loss as much as by not eating carbs.

Bootcamp fixed ALL of that when I first did it & I maintained it for a good while. However, I fall slip off the wagon because I find it very difficult to low carb as a vegetarian, who doesn’t eat eggs and finds eating dairy stalls me. I find it hard to get enough fat & protein and not to get too many carbs from veg 🙇🏻‍♀️ I get VERY bored with the few things I can eat at home & eating out is a nightmare.

I believe in this WOE so much that I considered trying to include meat and fish in my diet, but after 30 years as a vegetarian (part of that vegan) I just couldn’t - morally or physically.

I started yesterday

B: Coffee with a small amount of hot milk (no cream in the house, can’t drink it black, need coffee!). No food, but I was still deciding if I was doing BC or not Blush

L: Cauldron marinated tofu pieces & a lot of broccoli well fried in butter, olive oil & basil infused olive oil.

D: Large salad (rocket, spinach, cucumber, radishes, green pepper, tomato, a small amount of carrot and taifun basil infused tofu. With Hellman’s VEGAN mayo (3.9 per 100g) and a very small amount of blue cheese.

No snacks.

W: Only 1.5l. Ironic really as I find it hard to drink my 3-4 litre when I’m low carbing, but drink that easily when I’m not 🙇🏻‍♀️ It’s a massively important part of this WOE and losing weight though, so I need to do better.

Dinner was very nice, but I ‘needed’ a ‘dry’ crunch and I could not settle so I had some macadamias (permitted for vegetarians). I try not to eat nuts the first two weeks, but it was either that or crisps/crackers.

It was a horrible day. I spent the whole day arguing with myself and making excuses not to do it, not to join in the thread and generally just being bloody pathetic. But here I am, Day 2. Joining the thread and TRYING to stay on this bloody wagon!!

ChippingInLowCarbing · 14/05/2019 11:21

Yep. Headaches yesterday, carb flu today...like I needed any more reminders about how much of a Carby Twat I’ve been 😖

I did use some of the lo-salt.

Even though I eat a lot of spinach & avocados, I’m going to get some magnesium powder today if I can & something with potassium in it.

blackteaplease · 14/05/2019 11:43

Morning all, day 2 is going well so far. Eggs for breakfast and some kind of prawn and chicken thing planned for dinner probably with spinach. Lunch will be whatever I can rustle up but there's plenty of choice in the fridge today. All of this curry talk is making me hungry but I'm trapped under a sleeping 3yo who decided that 4.30am was a good time to start the day. Pass the coffee please.

ilovecherries · 14/05/2019 12:06

Been for a run. Walked the dog. Drank my water. Starting my patented Keto Bloody Itch (TM). Otherwise feeling good and positive and looking forward to left over HM lamb curry for lunch.

Mudcakemaniac · 14/05/2019 12:12

Hi all. Lunch for me today was spicy prawn (they were so damn good 🤤 just fried some prawn on butter with garam masala and chili powder), avocado, olives and Turkish yogurt. I absolutely love the yogurt, it’s got 10% fat and it’s so creamy. Absolutely no idea what to have for dinner. I’ve got eggs and veggies so might make an omelette. Need to do a food shop..

3brightstars3 · 14/05/2019 12:56

Sorry newbie question

I assume spices / herbs / garlic are ok to use ?

And how about tinned tomatoes and stock cubes ?

Thanks

ShagMeRiggins · 14/05/2019 13:16

Hello 18pages, hello ChippingIn. You got this. You can do this.

ilovecherries, with apologies to Sir Elton...

Ninkaninus · 14/05/2019 13:16

Change to plan for lunch - we’re having quiche for dinner (filling only for me, obvs!) so I didn’t fancy devilled eggs for lunch.

I’ve made a tuna salad - with salads I try to chuck in as many different raw veg as possible, whatever’s hanging about in the fridge, so today it has:

Tuna in sunflower oil
Gherkins
Cucumber
Celery
Tomato (four baby plum)
Radishes
Olives
Yellow pepper (only 40g and the salad will be eaten over two days so not bad on the carb count)
Plus parsley, S+P, olive oil and lemon juice.

Would have thrown in a few handfuls of leaves too but we’re having salad with dinner as well so I’ve left it out for lunch.

I’ll have a couple of boiled eggs on the side as well.

BIWI · 14/05/2019 13:20

@3brightstars3 yes herbs and spices and garlic are all fine. Tinned tomatoes you need to be careful with - some can be surprisingly high in carbs. Best I've found are Sainsbury's Basics tomatoes (the ones in the square tetrapaks)

Welcome back @ChippingInLowCarbing! NO EGGS Grin

Seriously, I hope you get back into the swing of things soon, and that your blood sugar levels settle down

@18pagesfrontandback glad you've stopped lurking! Welcome to you too.

Please allow me to recommend this for the fat/salt intake. Absolutely everything tastes better when cooked with this butter.

It is second only to the Noirmoutier Sel de Mer, which as far as I know can be obtained only in France. Lush.

Rayna37 · 14/05/2019 13:22

So far so good, Day 2:
B: tea with milk, 2 eggs scrambled and half an avocado
snacks - olives and a Babybel work is too boring not to snack
L: Tuna mayo with salad of spinach, romaine, tomato, cucumber, oil, followed by yogurt.
Plenty of water and chamomile teas
Dinner tonight will be bolognese (which I made last night) with courgetti and parmesan.
4 mile run in the training plan for later - tapering for my first half marathon this coming weekend which I'll bore you all with nearer the time.

RocketPockets · 14/05/2019 13:24

Didn't weigh myself this morning as we had a really busy start! Original plan went slightly out the window but haven't gone off plan!
B - boiled egg (made 2 but only wanted one so will have one as a snack if needed)
L - we're out with a friend so I got chicken wings from the shop, resisting the picnic food that my friend had!
D - will be tandoori chicken from the low carb section of the bbc good food website. With lots of veg etc.
Haven't drunk enough water so far today but rectifying that now!

Ninkaninus · 14/05/2019 13:25

Lunch!

ilovecherries · 14/05/2019 13:28

Haha riggins, exactly! 🤣

18pagesfrontandback · 14/05/2019 13:30

Thanks ShagMeRiggins. I’m so bloody determined that I WILL lose this bloody fat ONCE AND FOR ALL. I’m so friggin bored with myself being miserable about my appearance. Time to put up or STFU Grin

Lunch: leftover (courgette) lasagne chopped up, mixed into a couple of eggs with a bit of spice and some defrosted frozen spinach = omelette fried in butter served with a big fat dollop of mayo on top. Feeling that lovely fatty satisfied feeling now.

Period started today too so am buzzing off the LC effect combined with relief of less stabby hormonal feel Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld · 14/05/2019 13:30

ShagMe that's the butter I use after a previous BC recommendation - delicious!

I'm a daily weigher and slightly up this morning but I have done 3 weeks now, starting week 4 and I know this can be a bit notorious.

Did Pilates this morning and had 2 sausages with creamy coffee for breakfast.

Egg mayo (Delouis mayo of course!) for lunch, not sure about dinner yet. Expect it will involve some butter Grin

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 14/05/2019 13:39

Well I've kicked off the new healthy me with a run, dropped ds off at my mums, back in half hour I said... Trotted off yo do 5k...did half then tripped on a bit if pavement, went flying, hit the ground with hands and knees.. Can barely walk now. Hobbled round aldi, bout one of the ready meals mentioned earlier as I can't now actually pick anything up either. Amazing.
Also, weighed myself at my mums and I'm 9st 13, nearly 10st, not the 9st 11 I thought I was weighing on Monday..
Bastard scales, bastard pavement.
Still though, I managed not to eat any of the crap I'd bought the kids, even though due to my 'run' taking over an hour I was starving..
B. Boiled egg
L. Lettuce, spinace, avocado, egg, coleslaw and cheese. Plus a bit of clotted cream after....
D. Will be courgettes, creamed leeks, chicken.
Plus frozen cous cous, but that's just for my knee.. 😞

18pagesfrontandback · 14/05/2019 13:41

Me too BIWI Grin

18pagesfrontandback · 14/05/2019 13:45

Ouch! I winced as I read that Flowers

Different scales don’t count unless it’s lower. Plus, exercise AND inflammation from injury will cause water retention for repair. So basically...

MrsBertBibby · 14/05/2019 13:56

TMI ALERT

I forgot about the, ahem, backing up. Fybogel ahoy. MOAR water.

Notlostjustexploring · 14/05/2019 14:05

Mmmmm... butter.

Does anyone else cut little slices to eat while they're cooking with it?

BrassicaBabe · 14/05/2019 14:13

Nope. But I do lick the spoon from the garlic purée Grin

MrsBertBibby · 14/05/2019 14:13

Absolutely not Exploring. Only an utter savage would do that Blush
