So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

Day 4 for me, I'm really missing having a couple of proseccos tonight!

I'm having a chicken kebab without the pitta for dinner, with mayonnaise and lettuce. Out of interest, is Donner meet ok to have?

Jackielaffertyiscold · 17/05/2019 19:29

Meat

BIWI · 17/05/2019 19:41

I think so!

What do we think about satay sauce from the Chinese takeaway? We’ve decided last minute to get one. I’m not massively hungry tonight so am having the inside of a large spring roll (basically a dry beansprout mix) and satay King prawns on skewers - best of a bad bunch of options! From memory the sauce is barely touching the prawns and mostly in the container so I should be able to avoid it, but out of interest how bad do we think it is?

BIWI · 17/05/2019 19:56

Hmm. Difficult - but you may find there's a lot of sugar in it.

I think I'm in the same boat as many in here, with a case of the Friday night munchies. I almost feel like I have a twitch. I want I want I want. We need a couple of bits from the shop, and usually I'd go, but I've sent my husband as I simply cannot be trusted not to go nuts in the sweetie and bakery aisle.

I've also munched a snack comprising butter, crème fraiche and babybels. Lots of fat. So in addition to the fact I'm no longer actually hungry, my brain now knows that if I were to fall face first into sugar, not only would it be hindering my progress, the combination of fats and sugars in quick succession would be perfect for gaining. For some inexplicable reason that logic is helping. Weird brain.

I'll also be refreshing this thread every time I get a carb twitch for the motivation and the spectre of the big stick!!

HOLD THE LINE CAMPERS! WE’VE GOT THIS FRIDAY NIGHT BY THE KNACKERS AND THE MUNCHIES CAN FRO!

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 20:01

I was afraid of the sugar threat Angry Was clutching at straws really Grin Oh well, I’ll have to rinse it off with my tongue.

Notlostjustexploring · 17/05/2019 20:01

There is a satay recipe I follow that is peanut butter, coconut milk, soy sauce and yes, sugar. I'd imagine the takeaway would be quite liberal with the sugar. How about the duck without the sauce or pancakes? Or salt and pepper chilli chicken if it doesn't come battered?

Oh how I wish I hadn't started mentally running through my local takeaway menu...

HOLD THE LINE CAMPERS! WE’VE GOT THIS FRIDAY NIGHT BY THE KNACKERS AND THE MUNCHIES CAN FRO!

I've now got a mental image of us all in a line up facing down the Carb Munchies team, and we're all doing the Haka...

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 20:05

Oh bollards! I’d forgotten about crispy duck! Could’ve had the cucumber and spring onion too Hmm

Unfortunately he’s gone to pick it up already! And I love all the chilli salt dishes but without exception everything is battered. Even the prawns. Really annoys me because even carby me likes stuff not covered in battered.

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 20:08

Hahaha! Yes the haka, exactly that. I’m imagining the angry, jerky squatting and all I’m thinking of is clenching and tena lady GrinGrinGrin

Ninkaninus · 17/05/2019 20:09

Crispy duck, wrapped in gem lettuce...

Mmmm I know what I’m having next Friday night!

mrwalkensir · 17/05/2019 20:15

Just done a load of chicken thighs in the oven with teriyaki marinade and 5 spice. The teriyaki much lower in carbs than I thought, but the crispy skin and tender chicken is very good. Its flavour hints at sweetness so might be good for those cravings... ?

PushkarKali · 17/05/2019 20:16

I’ve just had gem lettuce stir fried with courgette and mint butter with steak, and my god, it was delicious. It’s good to find something to do with lettuce that makes it easier to eat, as i’m quite bored with salad!

Ninkaninus · 17/05/2019 20:19

I love braised lettuce and peas. I make Jamie Oliver’s version and it’s perfect with leftover chicken - I just put the chicken in with it to warm through. We like ours in joints, a leg and a wing, but you cut cut or shred the chicken and do it that way.

Ninkaninus · 17/05/2019 20:22

Oh also I tried the twinings liquorice tea yesterday and it’s lovely. An acquired taste for some I guess (I love liquorice so I’m alright), but probably worth a try. It’s surprisingly sweet and has a nice, silky mouth feel. Might help with sweet cravings in the evening.

Ninkaninus · 17/05/2019 20:27

Forgot it calls for flour but I’m sure you could omit it and just thicken it a little by reducing down. Peas obviously aren’t ideal but you could probably reduce the amount. I might try it with lettuce, sliced Brussels sprouts and peas instead.

prettybird · 17/05/2019 20:29

I'm having some cold chicken drumsticks that I'd made earlier for the family earlier in the week tonight: skin slashed and then marinated in Greek yoghurt, grated ginger, two chopped chilis, some mashed garlic and some ground cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper and a smidgen of smoked paprika before roasting for about 30-40 minutes. I'll also have what's left of the coleslaw I made earlier this week Smile

I'm finally getting back into the habit of drinking plenty of water. That's part of a large part of why I fell of the wagon earlier this year Blush

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/05/2019 20:47

B: two boiled eggs with smoked salmon
L: thick slice of ham (off the bone from the farmer's market, so barely counts as processed food IMO) with halloumi and spinach, all cooked in butter.
D: venison steak with courgettes, asparagus and padron peppers, all cooked with butter or olive oil.

I've drunk my 3 litres of water.

I'm not hungry, or craving sweet stuff, but Friday night without wine is miserable and I'm honestly hating this right now. Sad

prettybird · 17/05/2019 21:04

Friday night is Cava Night normally Chez Nous. It's just 2 weeks that you need to forego it. You can do this Smile

Dh is currently having a glass Hmm - if I can thole it, then that should give strength to others! I'm just off to get myself some more water Grin

18pagesfrontandback · 17/05/2019 21:05

Well, food has been and gone. Was so bland and unsatisfying compared to the food I would cook that fits with this woe. Would much rather eat one of those delicious sounding meals above ^ Served a purpose for tonight but won’t be repeating it anytime soon. Now off to bed with drugs and hot water bottle Night all Brew and KOKO

m0therofdragons · 17/05/2019 21:11

Managed 1.5 hours on the tea and coffee stand at the school fete - also selling cakes, popcorn, sweets, crisps and candy floss Blush I only had 1 burger from the bbq next to me (no roll). I seriously deserve an amazing loss this week after that! Came home and had spinach with an omelette and some halloumi.

I'm tired zzzz

MumbleLumble · 17/05/2019 21:52

I started Tuesday and have lost 5lb already! Can't believe it! First day of no headache today too. Major chocolate cravings though Sad

MumbleLumble · 17/05/2019 21:54

Can I recommend biscuit brew tea for those wanting a nice hot drink. Smells and tastes delicious!
