So here we are!

Lots of us signed up this time, so inevitably the thread will move very quickly. Please, though, take the time to read the whole thread!. Although this is a place where you can post your daily menus, or your thoughts and questions, please don't just do this, but read what other people have posted too.

A bit thank you to the very lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready who has set up the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness. Star

The Spreadsheet

If your name isn't on there, don't panic! Just add yourself to the bottom of the list. Don't worry about trying to alphabetise it - that will be sorted out for you. (And if you're on the spreadsheet but don't want to be, don't worry - if you don't post on it your name will be taken off)

Here's a brief recap of the rules:

  1. Eat three proper meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat plenty of fat
  4. Make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables and salad
  5. Be careful about dairy (apart from butter which is unlimited)
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10.No sugar or artificial sweeteners

The full rules are here . They're supposed to be stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic (along with the recipe threads), but for some reason they're stickied at the top of page 2!

Remember that after the first two weeks we can relax some of this, and move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can add some fruit (berries mainly), alcohol (in moderation) and nuts and seeds (again, in moderation), but the point of the strict initial phase is to help push your body into burning fat for fuel rather than carbohydrate.

And remember - if you cheat, you will only be delaying this process from happening!

Good luck to everyone. Any questions or problems, just shout! Smile

Oh,another boring day at work but at least I have time to keep up with a very fast moving thread!
At this rate we're going to need a new one to last till the end of week one.
B:Greek 10% fat yogurt with a teaspoon of milled linseed
L:Salad with garlicky baked salmon, feta and avocado, olive oil and mayo. This was actually very tasty.Lovingly made by DH last night Wink
D:Will be pulled pork fried in butter with cheesy cauliflower.

@RocketPocket and anyone else who's looking for good sausages I buy similar in Lidl, they are £3.99 but bigger pack,I think its 10 in a packet, not sure about the weight.

DrBuckles · 15/05/2019 16:38

Just a heads up that Ocado seem to sell the High5 Zero things too if you happen to do your shop there.

I’m doing ok- forever struggling with the water. I cannot and will not do the amount suggested for my weight, but am doing as well as I can with it!

Food today is been coffee and cream, sausage and cauliflower rice drizzled in chilli oil for lunch and chicken and bacon salad with mayo for dinner.

TheWaiting · 15/05/2019 16:43

Hi @BIWI, yes I’m reading as much as I can although it moves so fast I’m struggling to keep up. Confused I read the bit about carb flu and I’ve been faithfully adding salt to my veg and having full fat yoghurt every morning for breakfast so I had hoped to avoid it. It’s eased a lot now although not completely gone. Fingers crossed an early night and no exercise should help ensure I’m much better tomorrow. Thanks

IStillMissBlockbuster · 15/05/2019 17:42

I hope that this doesn't sound silly, but I really want this to work, don't want to sabotage myself but I am meeting a friend for dinner at restaurant tonight. I've looked at the menu and think that chicken Saltimbocca or steak with veg (twice the price) would be suitable for this boot camp. Now, I would prefer the cheaper chicken meal but there may well be flour in the sauce. Should I go for the steak? I like steak just fine after all...

BIWI · 15/05/2019 18:02

@Dr Buckles

I cannot and will not do the amount suggested for my weight

I can understand it being difficult if the directed amount is a lot, and that you might find it hard - but it's very defeatist to even refuse to try!

OP posts:
BIWI · 15/05/2019 18:03

@IStillMissBlockbuster. Steak is always a good option! Why don't you post a link to the menus and see if we can spot other good choices?

Don't be afraid to ask for things to be substituted - so ask for a salad instead of potatoes, for example. I've never been refused in a restaurant when I've asked.

Almahart · 15/05/2019 18:05

biwi that’s a good idea I’ll have a look for inspiration

Dinner tonight is hm burgers and coleslaw which is one of my bc faves

prettybird · 15/05/2019 18:06

I'd go with the chicken saltimbocca but just not mop up "extra" sauce. That's what I chose for a nice meal out in January, served with spinach. It wasn't a very thick sauce, so if there was flour, it was minimal.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 15/05/2019 18:12

Thanks Biwi, I won't post the menu as I'm heading there now x

Kummerspeck · 15/05/2019 18:24

Costco are selling an avocado oil mayonnaise which is only 2.4g per 100g, not tasted it yet but will report back. I use their avocado oil for cooking too.
I get Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix which is a powder you add to your own mayo and milk. It is very low in carbs and makes a nice garlicky dressing that I don't need much of

@Chipping re diabetes. Some areas are moving faster than others on dietary advice. In Warrington they have a GP running a low carb diet group for diabetics www.fatismyfriend.co.uk/category/low-carb-behaviour-change-8-week-programme/
Meanwhile our nurses are still using a book that gives half a glass of orange juice with breakfast!

ShagMeRiggins · 15/05/2019 18:26

You might want to up the protein and down the carbs a bit. And charge your phone.

@Athelstane, you slay me. Seriously, you’re all so damned entertaining, I swear I’m just here for the craic.

m0therofdragons · 15/05/2019 18:32

@Kummerspeck our local gp practice is advertising a low carb diet advice evening for people with diabetes or at risk of getting it. It's open for anyone, which looked interesting. I work in a hospital and our lead diabetes consultant was definitely eating a low carb lunch the other day too (obviously he may gorge on chips the rest of the time - I doubt it) Grin

Pork chops and buttery cabbage is lovely! Dinner was worth the wait.

Heartyhooker · 15/05/2019 18:51

Waves at everyone. Just spent half an hour catching up after a days first aid training at work.

B boiled egg and butter
L salad , little bit of cheese, homemade meatballs wrapped in lettuce leaves
T carbonara style sauce with mushrooms and broccoli

Avoided birthday cake at work and provided sandwiches.

Batshittery · 15/05/2019 19:00

Hello everyone.
It's taken me ages to catch up with the thread! I've enjoyed reading all the posts.

No cheating here. I've had egg mayo for breakfast, savoury mince with courgettes and mushrooms for lunch and slices of cucumber with pate for dinner.
A bit more water to make my quota.
koko

PushkarKali · 15/05/2019 19:19

I’m at the stage where the ketones are acting as an appetite suppressant, which is really good in some ways, but not so good in that i’ve never got that mmm peckish feeling that makes me fantasise about what I want to eat. So I have been very good today in that i’ve had coffee with cream and some cheese for breakfast, salad with Brunswick ham for lunch, more water than I would ever have thought possible, but nothing so far for dinner, and no interest in dinner! I will probably have some vegetable soup made with home made chicken stock later when the genuine ravenousness kicks in. Everyone is doing so well! It’s brilliant to see such a fast moving thread.

Mandelinka · 15/05/2019 19:25

Evening all!
I’ve blinked and we are on a page 18 already!
This is my 5th bc and so far it’s been the most focused week 1 for me. I have about 1st to loose, so trying to really reinstall good habits as I miss how I felt whenever on this WOE
Yesterday’s food
B: 1l green tea
L: mixed roasted veg with chicken
D: bbq salmon ( cooked by DH, which is a rare occasion), big pile of broccoli and asparagus
W:2l

Today
B: green tea
L: mixed veg, sausage, mayo
B: 2 bowls of HM soup ( kale, celery, leek), with cream. Exploded chunk of cheddar

Made lovely mushroom omelette for DH ( pizza for DS), DH complimented me on the omelette, good to know as I can whip one up in 5 mins and family is happy.

There is a bake in the Owen, basically whatever veg needed using up mixed with bacon and meatballs from the depth on my freezer, topped with tomato sauce and cheese. Hopefully will turn out well as my lunch tomorrow

DrBuckles · 15/05/2019 19:30

BIWI I know but as you’ve probably guessed I’m at the very high end of the weight scale and already wee a fair bit on 2-3 litres, anymore and I’d struggle to actually work, so I just can’t!

BrassicaBabe · 15/05/2019 19:35

5k medium paced run today. Left nice in the sunshine.

Wedding anniversary so we're going out. Mixed feelings but I can manage this one!

B: fasted (long term LC'er)
L: busier than I expected. So failed here. Pepperami and seaweed thins someone else mentioned.
D: restaurant curry. Will have saag paneer and lamb jalfrezi. Then just have to hope they don't add sugar or flour! Will swerve the rice and breads.

Off to catch-up with thread!!

blackteaplease · 15/05/2019 19:38

Good evening. We had a team lunch in the pub today, I had a chicken amd avocado salad and left the croutons and feel pretty pleased with myself.

Re the high 5 tabs, they are also occasionally in lidl as a special buy.

BIWI · 15/05/2019 19:38

@DrBuckles - you will get used to it, honestly!

MrsBertBibby · 15/05/2019 19:56

Interesting spot on PM on r4 this evening about lo carb and T2D. Was on at 5.30 when I was driving home.

prettybird · 15/05/2019 19:58

DrBuckles - as your kidneys will get used to the increased water intake, and you won't need to wee quite as often - but just longer and more forcefully Wink

I find that at the beginning of BootCamp, I wake up during the night two (or more Shock) times a night to go to the loo, but it soon settles down. Smile

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/05/2019 19:58

Rshard and Ninkaninus it’s definitely carb flu
I fannied around on the last Bootcamp , andsince then have completely re carbed and re toxed , so it’s a bit of a come down
Feeling better now , after dinner and a lovely sun-bake on the patio in the evening sun
B crisp back bacon , and Greek yoghurt ( not in the same bowl )
L mushroom and cheese omlette
D salmon with spinach , courgettes , asparagus and lots of butter , salt and black pepper
Many glasses of water , now feet up on the sofa , and Game of Thrones to catch up on

Rayna37 · 15/05/2019 20:10

Loving the thread. DH was just asking about what I was learning, what I liked about it etc and I had so much to say (he's a committed low-carber and reads around it more than me). Been off here for nearly a year while maintaining and it's like seeing old friends!
B: 2 egg omelette with 2 cheeses and grated courgette
Snack: chunk of manchego
L: half an avocado, mozzarella, lettuce tomato cucumber and plenty of oil then HM strained yogurt.
D: venison fillet, buttery kale, green beans and broccoli. Coffee with the top of the milk.
Challenge for the next two days is I'm away with work, need to stay strong in the face of chips and wine at the Beefeater and the carbfest that is a PremierInn breakfast. At least where I'm going most of the team will be fasting!

bandit34 · 15/05/2019 20:23

B - Fage 5% Greek Yogurt
L - Chicken !!! Forgot my salad today ! Duh
D - bolognese with extra mushrooms, celery, green peppers

Snacks - boiled egg

Popped into local supermarket to get babybels and found marmite cheese (happy dance time)!!!

Did want to ask, is it ok to add a teaspoon of Chia seeds to my yogurt in the morning ???
