Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!

Morning all.

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, waiting for the results from your Scales of Truth!

Hopefully the final weigh-in is a good one for you all.

Although this is the end of this Bootcamp, it's not the end of the chat - so not the end of support, advice and general chit chattery!

So don't despair if you haven't reached your target. Keep going and reporting in here. The Big Stick will be rested in the cupboard for a while, but you can keep checking in here.

oh, m0ther, Flowers Hope all was looking a bit better by the time you got up again this morning.

A couple of lbs down from two weeks' ago, so moving slowly in the right direction. Must drink more water today, yesterday was poor.

Rshard · 08/04/2019 10:33

Oh dear @m0ther, hope everyone is feeling better this morning

I’m a lb down for this bb. Also need to do better on the water, I always find it harder at the weekend, much easier while at work in the week

1stMrsF · 08/04/2019 11:18

Hope everyone who's on holiday is having a lovely time and that sickness is subsiding in @m0therofdragons's house. What a terrible way to start the school holidays Confused

Down 3lbs in total since last Monday, which includes eradicating a gain from the week before plus another lb off, so very pleased. Just under 5lb to go to BB goal.

Spontaneous Sunday night drinks with neighbours led to a very late night and a proper hangover today, which is not so good...

tootstastic · 08/04/2019 12:05

@m0therofdragons you poor thing, lack of sleep makes you feel so dreadful, hope you got chance of a nap later.

@1stMrsF I've also got about 5lbs left for my BB goal. I'm so glad some of you are sticking around until the next BC. It's comforting to know I'm not alone KOKOing.

I've just had a job interview (went well, so fingers crossed), but now have over an hour to kill in a cafe until I start work (already work at same place as interview) and there is literally nothing I can eat. Luckily, I've just found half a bag of M&S roasted and salted almonds in my bag to snaffle. Good job, as a beautiful and giant Battenberg cake was calling my name.

Why don't cafes cater for low carbers?! i wonder if it's like that in places like LA, where everyone and her dog are low-carbing? I have been, but not for 10 years and didn't notice then. Imagine how refreshing it must be to walk into a cafe where everything is low carb. I can picture it now...huge chopped salads, smoked salmon, roasted chicken, mini-cheese boards and crudités with a sour cream and garlic dip. Haha...can you tell I'm hungry? But wouldn't that be brilliant?!

m0therofdragons · 08/04/2019 14:13

Thank you everyone. I'm working until 5pm so dh is dealing with it all (he's lucked out on his annual leave this time). Early night tonight.

I haven't had boiled eggs for ages (started with too many) so plan to make some tonight so I have a quick snack. Tiredness often leads me to make bad choices so I need easy better options available!

Doilooklikeatourist · 08/04/2019 15:28

Thanks venus for your words of wisdom , I’m back on the straight and narrow today , and DH is onboard too ( so no more going round Tesco with him asking if I want some chocolate, . No . I don’t )

mOther I hope your day gets better

toots I run a cafe , and it seems most people just don’t get the low carb route ( bit like me 😀)

One of the most popular lunches on the menu is salmon and avocado salad with mayo and homemade bread , customers say ..oooh I’m trying to lose weight , so I won’t have any mayo , I’d have it ( these days ) with no bread , and I’d be happy to add more green salad or a hard boiled egg to make it a bit more substantial

And the amount of people that ask for skinny milk , just don’t have a ruddy latte , have a black coffee with some cream ! or just the black coffee , or herb tea
Also , scrambled eggs on toast with bacon , but they’ll ask for no butter
No toast , yes butter and maybe a few mushrooms

If you go to an independent cafe , I bet a lot of owners are like me and will adapt the menu to suit

Rant over

Will weigh in the morning , had plumbers here at 7-30 and I didn’t want to waft downstairs in my nighty whilst they were arriving

Siameasy · 08/04/2019 15:30

I have a NSV-I did one entire pull up from a dead hang. Now I’m an older bird and the last time I did one was 2012 so I’m excited.

toots I think the same re eating establishments. Most people have heard of low carb yet no one has really picked up on the opportunity. M and S with their 3 for £7 deli items is about the best really

Heartyhooker · 08/04/2019 16:39

On week three here and been catching up on thread a to stay motivated. I've found middle eastern food easiest to adapt when out. Went to food court in Leeds at weekend and got jerk chicken withsalad, but could also have got mackerel with salad from Iranian stall. Mind you could have inhaled kids fresh made pizza.

tootstastic · 08/04/2019 17:55

@Doilooklikeatourist you must have the patience of a saint dealing with fussy eaters, esp when you can see where they're going wrong, but can't say anything.

@Siameasy I tried the M&S pork scratching straws the other day...delish. Yes not sure why LC isn't loads more popular here, you'd think the whole Hollywood thing would have caught on by now, those guys literally never touch bread.

We should get t-shirts printed to spread the word! Grin

tootstastic · 08/04/2019 17:57

@Siameasy oh and congrats on the pull-up, that's amazing!

tootstastic · 08/04/2019 18:04

Haha...spotted this.....

Low Carb Bootcamp - the end of the line!
SummerSazz · 08/04/2019 19:48

Ok with food again today. Fasted till lunchtime and swam 100 lengths. Only a 10m pool mind you 😂

@m0therofdragons Hope the family are feeling better this evening

@tootstastic Fingers crossed for the job - hope you don't have to wait too long until you hear

Loving the t-shirt Grin

tootstastic · 08/04/2019 20:11

Thanks @SummerSazz, I've been checking my emails all afternoon, but nothing as yet.

ilovecherries · 08/04/2019 21:03

Hi everyone :) coming back for the BB effort :). As some of you may remember, I lost 5 stone in 2017, maintained through 2018, and had a much longed-for breast reduction in Feb this year. My surgeon told me it was a big operation at 61, but I seriously underestimated the degree to which it would floor me. I’m 7 weeks post op, and only just beginning to feel normal again, although I’m still not allowed to run or weight lift. Started off 32K, still not sure what size I will end up, as still very swollen and bruised. Anyway :), although I’ve managed to maintain throughout my recovery, it has really been through calorie counting and restriction, as some days I’ve felt so grim, squeamish and tired that carbs (mainly in the form of grains and potatoes rather than sugar) crept back in. However, that is not how I want to live, and some of my pre-LCHF issues of IBS and GERD are starting to reappear. In some ways it’s been good for me to realise a), that I CAN maintain on a non-LCHF diet and b) I don’t want to live counting calories. So yesterday I did a big shop, cleared the cupboards and started to cook properly again. It’s good to be back :)

BIWI, it was interesting to read the big stick discussion up thread. I think your approach is great, part of the issue with a lot of weight loss programmes is the amount of enabling that goes on, and on here because you set a tone that it’s not acceptable, no one tends to do it. Having said that, I do think calling it the big stick actually diminishes what it is, which is powerful but challenging coaching. I’ve often wondered if the big stick analogy was actually yours, or if it was one of those in-jokes that develop and it just sort of stuck. So I might ditch the stick part, but keep the approach :)

m0therofdragons · 09/04/2019 00:11

Love that tshirt!

Hi @ilovecherries recovery is harder than we think. Be kind to yourself and well done maintaining! Great to hear you're coming out the other side.

Thanks for the kind messages. Dd2 isn't quite herself but is no longer being sick or pooping for England.

Dd1 had another nose bleed so I think she's having a growth spurt.

Why I'm not asleep is beyond me but my brain is whirling. I have my appraisal at work tomorrow so I think I'm over thinking it. Also it's totm so I'm all bloated and feeling fat. Hoping that means by Monday I'll feel slim.

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/04/2019 08:13

Good to hear of your progress ilovecherries
I’m close to your age , and know how long it takes to recover from a cut or bruise , so a major op like you had will I’m sure take a while , but will be so worth it in the long term 💐

Been on the scale , and I’m down to 10-12 which seems to be a bit of a stopping weight for me , just can’t seem to get below it without depriving myself of anything nice , and I’m not sure I want to go there

Going out for an Indian meal on Thursday , I’m thinking chicken tikka with no rice and some veggie sides
I remember it being discussed , way back , and if anyone has advice I’d be grateful
Also going out for dinner on Saturday as it’s a friends birthday , but I’ll study that menu and I know there’s a good charcuterie board

Hope everyone has a good day
Waves at Rshard KOKO

m0therofdragons · 09/04/2019 09:03

I'm going to my parents at the weekend who are really into their food. Lots of tempting bread but dm knows I'm not eating bread so I'm going to stand my ground.

10-8 on the scales. I was here mid March then got over excited and fell off the wagon. Anyway,it's taken 2.5 weeks to repair 1.5 week's damage. I'm really focused and want 10-3 by end of April! I can do this!

TowandaForever · 09/04/2019 09:19

@venusandmars

You wouldn't eat tomatoes if you were trying to lose weight?

Rshard · 09/04/2019 10:37

Morning everyone

I’m mostly koko @doilooklikeatourist but not as consistently as I’d like! This week going well - realise it’s only Tuesday tho! Are you happy at 10’12? I seem to remember we had similar goals? So I think you’re after a bit lower?

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/04/2019 14:52

Rshard ideally ( I think ) I’m aiming for 10-7 , my goal at WW many years ago was 10-4 , but I don’t think I’ve got enough will power and desire to get there

I feel so much better ( starting weight was 11-10 ) having lost nearly a stone and I think I’m in the healthy BMI , my face is now heart shaped , not round , I’ve always had nice arms , it’s just the tummy ( started to do sit ups 🙁💨) and bum that needs work ( adds squats to exercise regime )

Menu tip , avocado and Brie omlette ( 2 eggs , cooked in butter and olive oil , salt and pepper , when nearly cooked add sliced avo , and some Brie , turn over in pan , to melt the Brie , deliciousness )

Rshard · 09/04/2019 15:18

You’ve done so well @doiloomlike a tourist. Know what you mean about reaching and maintaining a goal weight, I’m coming to the realisation that my goal weight might be difficult, I was last at it about 10 years ago and I’m not convinced my face would look very good at it either!

ilovecherries · 09/04/2019 15:59

I was desperate to reach a goal weight of 10.2, but after a year of not losing (aka ‘maintaining’), at 10.13 I realised it was going to take more than I was willing to give, and probably wouldn’t be sustainable. I’m 5’7 and a pretty standard size 12 now (was 24), and decided just to be happy with that.

Doilooklikeatourist · 09/04/2019 17:00

ilovecherries I remember writing on the October Bootcamp , that I was at WW target weight for about 20 minutes , and I’m sure it would be too much like hard work these days ( 15 years on from WW )

I’ve 2 lb to lose to be in the correct BMI , and not overweight ( or get an inch taller ! ) I am nearly 5ft 6 , but put 5ft 5 in the BMI calculator (stands up straight )

Rshard · 09/04/2019 17:44

That’s interesting @ilovecherries and kind of what I’m thinking too. I’m a little heavier at the moment than I have been on bootcamp but at that lower weight, i was a comfortable size 12 and like you, was happy. At that weight I was just a healthy BMI - am v short! Don’t particularly believe in BMI though

SummerSazz · 09/04/2019 18:10

Well done everyone who is close to target - I'm still 1/2 stone off but will KOKO.

Still doing well with the eating and trampolining for an hour today. Am going on the mile long zip wire tomorrow so may lose some weight when I crap my pants GrinGrin
