Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

Mimosa if you were to switch back to a typical diet then you would have an adaption phase similar to when you start low carb. You would be very thirsty as first while your live glycogen was replaced and you'd probably end up bloated while the balance of water in your body changed. No carb flu though. I couldn't go back to be honest. Low fat yogurt and skinless chicken breast and fat-free salad dressing and wondering why I'm putting on weight. It was miserable compared to how I eat now.

Don't feel defeated Siameasy you gave it s go and it just isn't right for you. The best diet is the one you can stick to.

Hello

I am a Newby, I am trying to lose weight by low carb diet. I am into my third day but as I have busy work env trying to focus on eating less than 50 carbs with a view to lowering next week to avoid carb flu and feeling unwell while having to work.

My plan is to get support from this bootcamp until next one starts if that’s ok?

I would love to stick at this as I feel as if I have no control when eating too many carbs😃

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 07:06

Today is my busy day.

I can go shopping tomorrow and dh is back too.

It's got to be done.

Siameasy · 28/02/2019 07:15

Glad to be back in the land of veg. You don’t know what a relief it is.
DH got a curry. Eating dry tikka without even the salad was the final straw - while he ate 3 poppadums 😂😭
Do you ever have chocolate StuntNun? When I had my DD i did low carb but adjusted for BFing so I think it was 100g within that I allowed for 2 squares of dark choc and I lost all the weight (4 stone 🐷). I’ve no interest in introducing these foods yet but maybe one day🤷‍♀️

Siameasy · 28/02/2019 07:19

Hello sheep, sounds like a plan, clear the decks. Then you can shop and plan your meals.
Personally I’m loving not being hungry in that “hangry-omg I’ve got to eat now” feeling anymore. You eat less and get so much more done!

venusandmars · 28/02/2019 07:40

B - avocado
L - cheese salad
Going out for dinner. It's a 7 course tasting menu, so no choice, but I've found in the past that these type of places are mostly protein, cream or 'foam' and a wee bit of vegetable diced into impossibly small cubes. If there is any potato etc then it's usually a tiny smear. The only challenge will be pudding (and probably the ubiquitous pre-desert) but I can turn that down or swap it out for a cheese course.

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 08:18

My plan is (roughly) what I did before:

B x
Brunch: eggs and bacon/frittata etc
Dinner: salmon/chicken or meat with veg or salad

I will weigh in on sat and weekly after that.

Next week not busy thank goodness!

I've got a friend coming over but she's eating healthily too so I'll do salmon and veg.

BrassicaBabe · 28/02/2019 08:18

How's post op Ilovecherries doing does anyone know?

BrassicaBabe · 28/02/2019 08:23

I have left over chicken alfrado but I'm not tempting fate by having that 2 days in a row. Defrosting a turkey thigh instead. Will probably have it with buttered cabbage. Lunch, maybe a lo-dough tuna mayo wrap.

SummerSazz · 28/02/2019 08:27

@67chevvyimpala don't forget the water!!! It makes a massive difference for me on weight loss and headaches. Good luck 🍀

nowlook · 28/02/2019 08:47

@BrassicaBabe

I don't think we've heard from cherries for a few days. I too am wondering how she's getting on.

I think the Alfredo is strictly a one-meal-a-day thing for me. I love it, but it's very rich...can't imagine eating it alongside breakfast and lunch!

nowlook · 28/02/2019 08:50

@sheepdreams Have you tried this way of eating before? The reason I ask is that some of us (me included) don't suffer from carb flu. It's by no means inevitable!

Anyway, welcome! It's a very supportive bunch here.

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 09:03

Ive got veg bouillion too I can drink if it gets bad

ShagMeRiggins · 28/02/2019 11:08

I also was thinking of @ilovecherries when 67chevvy mentioned how she was worried that being in her 50s meant she might not be able to lose this weight. ilovecherries is semi-famous Wink in the forum for having dropped something like 70lbs in a year or year and a half, and she recently turned 60. So it’s absolutely possible.

Reporting in from my end—still alcohol free I’m finding it unexpectedly easy, and now going through a rather emotional self-assessment of why I didn’t attempt this sooner.

I mean, I have attempted to cut back, and I have had days on and off, and I’ve said I would go booze free for X amount of time (for the weight loss, of course, not because of any problem controlling my alcohol intake...)

So why now? Good thing I have the old weekly therapy appointment this afternoon! Grin

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 12:43

Well done riggins

Understanding why we do what we do is not always comfortable knowledge x

Mimosa1 · 28/02/2019 13:21

Reporting in from our holiday and sticking to the LC diet, although a fair few more raspberries and dark choc than normal, but swerving the ice cream and pancakes so not all bad. We've had a wonderful time and been so lucky with the weather.

Thanks @StuntNun for the science bit.

I've found that COOK do a couple of HFLC meals - 9 carbs per portion - that can be bunged in the oven or microwaves: a coq au vin and a beef brandy stew thing. Both very nice and filling when a quick meal is needed

1stMrsF · 28/02/2019 13:35

Checking in. Did succumb to a glass of wine last night after finding moving all the furniture for the decorator a bit stressful. Also reached for something easy to cook to take to work today for lunch - boiled eggs, only to remember after eating them that I'm also having eggs for dinner...

L - boiled eggs, slice of ham, green beans and salad
D - gammon steak, fried egg and spinach

ShagMe sometimes we are just not ready for these changes to our lives, until we are. I find alcohol is very habit forming also, so it's not as simple as cutting something else out of your life.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 28/02/2019 15:21

Its about finding what works for you. lots of people hear weigh daily but this means you need to realise that that will come with a certain amount of natural oscillation in your weight, so if you are the kind of person that sees a stall over two days for example and says 'sod it' then perhaps everyday won't work. I find that if i know that im weighing each morning first thing then it may help stop the night time munchies or that second helping of dinner when i'm not really hungry.

This is an experiment with a single participant - you!

There was a study about weighing daily that suggested that in general it had a positive benifit so if you think it will help, give it a go!

Iamnotacerealkiller · 28/02/2019 15:22

Sorry that was for @67chevvy, may have cross posted as i didn't refresh the page.

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 15:23

Thank you.

I'll try.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 28/02/2019 15:27

Had a victory today as i went to a semi-regular event with my local baby group. usually the host puts on a spread and a nibble of scone becomes a scoffing session.

This time i ate breakfast beforehand, also took food along so i could at least eat that. worked very well, had several of my cucumber roll ups that contain smoked salmon and cream cheese plus two slices of pepper, literally a crumb of falafel (to test for hotness for my baby), a babybel and lots of peppermint tea.

I even fed a brownie to my son by hand without any going in my mouth. Several ladies asked me about Keto too so it was a good evangelising opportunity too!

MrsTerryPratcett · 28/02/2019 16:21

I hope you're sticking around MrsKoala. You're my spreadsheet buddy!

I have watched cream and cheese and no alcohol so far this week and had a woosh. I need to make sure I don't ruin it with weekend alcohol and cheese before Monday! I can't drink Friday (even though I couldn't last Friday and found a way). Saturday is the only night I can really so wish me luck.

Someone brought donuts into work this week, a whole box. I didn't eat any and my boss kept cutting bits off and eating them little by little. Addiction in action and that would have been me 100% three months ago. I felt very virtuous eating my boiled eggs, kale and mayonnaise.

Again thanks to @BIWI. Flowers

KiteMarked · 28/02/2019 16:58

I have decided to tell myself that the slight increase on the scales is muscle mass. I've been walking miles and miles more than usual these past 3 weeks, due to a complicated car repair. I tried on some clothes at the shops today and fit into a smaller size than normal (only just, but STILL) so things are still going well. Must remember NSV are important.

ShagMeRiggins · 28/02/2019 17:23

Speaking of NSVs—this no alcohol thing—my skin looks fucking amazing. In just seven days.

Pub quiz tonight. Not tempted, but I do need to figure out food before I go. Really bad eating day. Nothing off piste, but very little and all bubbly bits. A bit or mozzarella tomato salad from M&S, a few ham & cheese roll ups from M&S, a cup of bouillon.

Very very busy day and no proper meal. And I’m not especially hungry (thank you, High Fat), but know I need to eat before pub or else I’ll dive into a pack of cheese and onion crisps out of sheer desperation.

Doing a stir fry for the kids. Any ideas how to get fat into those other than oil?

67chevvyimpala · 28/02/2019 17:57

Nsv?
