Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

....and in.the spirit of full disclosure I've just eaten half a pack of custard creams.
🙄

Siameasy · 27/02/2019 17:36

Hi 67
My tips for what it’s worth:
-Find a time when you can go cold turkey ie when you can clear your schedule and have as little stress as possible
-What are your triggers-try to eliminate them.
-Plan every meal. If you’re going out for dinner research and plan your choice of meal amd stick to it
-Go cold turkey I repeat COLD TURKEY
-Be careful of cream. My friend (who is also doing this WOE) and I find cream is addictive. It may stall weight loss in some people due to the fact that it raises insulin
-Read Taubes WHY WE GET FAT it really sharpened my thinking.
-Throw all non allowed foods in the bin. -Avoid places where you might be tempted or eat before hand.
I find sparkling water softens the blow
I say these things as a carb addict. I approach from an addict’s perspective. It is no different from drugs. In fact it is worse because society speaks the language of the addict:
“Just a little bit”
“You deserve it”
“You need sugar” etc

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 27/02/2019 17:41

Good advice venus you are right about planning being crucial. I failed to get the shopping sorted properly and that on top of wine meant it all came crashing down.
.
I have spent the day resting, planning and listening to random Ted Talks about weight loss, motivation, self care etc. I have had 2 naps! I feel much better in myself and teady to crack on. So I had a bad few days and put some weight on and then I went into self sabotage mode. There you go. It happened. I'm drawing a line under it.

Pork chop with buttery mushrooms, greens and broccoli for dinner tonight.

Welcome 67.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 27/02/2019 18:07

@SlinkyDinkyDoo

I find reading up on weight loss science and talks helpful too! Also a reason this thread is so good as it keeps it all in mind.

I would also suggest avoiding stress but i found it easiest to comply on a work day so you have a routine to follow/distract you from food. This is assuming you don't work in a bakery or something or have work mates bringing in lots of cake!

Track your weight! i use a spread sheet as a graph. weight down left side, date along the top. you will see the progress.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 27/02/2019 18:30

I do log weight on MFP and overall Iam dowm from where I was 6 weeks ago but I am juat so impatient. I want the weight gone now. Don't we all?? Took me 2 years to put the weight on so I have to get it in my head that it's not going to fall off in 2months (the amount I have to lose anyway).

Iamnotacerealkiller · 27/02/2019 18:31

Another good reason to track your weight, so you can see a downward trend even during a stall and see where you were weeks ago.

67chevvyimpala · 27/02/2019 19:09

Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate it.

I am livid with myself. I seem to have no self control at all atm.

67chevvyimpala · 27/02/2019 19:10

So I should weigh daily?
I tend to weigh weekly.
Maybe cream as a weekend "treat"?
Also, I'm assuming lacto free milk is lower carb as no lactose?

67chevvyimpala · 27/02/2019 19:11

I read John Briffa tests ago which really makes sense to me.

Just to put it into practise!!

Siameasy · 27/02/2019 19:15

It is addictive carbs that wreck self control. Sugar is addictive, so is bread and even dairy has opiate-like qualities. Add fat to sugar (ice cream, pastries...) and it’s something like an orgasm in the mouth!
Will power is only as good as your environment so you can wake up with good intentions but if something goes wrong - bang goes the will power.
I read somewhere it’s a miracle that more of us arent obese.

Siameasy · 27/02/2019 19:17

Yeah I view cream as a treat but I’ve cut it out for a bit as I was getting a “kick” off of it. Which from an addiction perspective means it’s igniting the reward centres in your brain which we are trying to get away from
I’ve gone instead for full fat yoghurt blended with berries (after you’ve passed the initial no fruit weeks you can have this)

BrassicaBabe · 27/02/2019 19:23

I am a bad BC'er. I'm making the famed "chicken Alfredo" and all I can this is "fuck, HOW many calories?!!" Blush

67chevvyimpala · 27/02/2019 19:38

No yoghurt for me sadly...I'm allergic :(

Siameasy · 27/02/2019 19:42

Oh boo. Ok I would forget the cream until you’ve got more control.
I enjoy a Boursin cube mixed into greens or mashed into you might like that?

Doilooklikeatourist · 27/02/2019 19:47

Was desperate for some fruit this morning , so had an orange 🍊. Was delicious , and I enjoyed every bit
L egg mayo and avocado with lettuce and cucumbers, bit of HM coleslaw
D fried salmon fillet , roast cauliflower, leeks and mushrooms with creamy spinach
1 I repeat 1 glass of Sauvignon blanc
There were also a couple of Maltesers , I was decorating a cake and absentmindedly ate them
So stupid , yet so easy to do

BIWI · 27/02/2019 19:50

@67chevvyimpala

Have you had a read of Bootcamp rules? I suspect that if you were to follow those, that it might help you.

There's no need to eat red meat. If you love eggs, that's perfect! There's no need to eat yoghurt.

But what it's about is fresh/unprocessed sources of protein (meat/chicken/fish/eggs) and lower carb veg and salad. For the first two weeks, no fruit or nuts and seeds. (And no alcohol).

Sounds to me like you'd find this easy!

Go and find the week 1 chat thread, and have a read of all the preparation stuff I've posted there and have a think about how that might work for you.

If this is your normal day:

"normal" day would be:

B: x
Lunch: omelette and bacon/veg/sausage
Snack: biscuits
Dinner: cottage pie and veg
Snack: chocolate

... then I can pretty much guarantee that if you adopt Bootcamp practices that you will lose weight!

StuntNun · 27/02/2019 20:26

Found another good vid, this one talking about the insulin resistance that you get on low carb diets
In case anyone is worried this is different from the insulin resistance you develop on a standard diet where the pancreas has to pump out much more insulin to get the same blood glucose lowering effect. On a low carb diet, muscle tissue becomes insulin resistant in order to direct all available glucose to where it is most needed, i.e. the brain. The muscles are perfectly happy to make do with free fatty acids and ketones for energy, they don't need any glucose. However the upshot of this is that if you do go on a carb bender then your muscle tissue won't take up glucose effectively and you'll be more likely to feel ill as a result - like a kid eating too many sweets on Halloween.

SummerSazz · 27/02/2019 21:26

Evening BC's and welcome to the newbies.

Well done on the losses @nowlook and @1stMrsF Smile

I'm knackered this evening. Pilates first thing, between school runs a 4.5hr drive and 3 hour meeting with no lunch. Bastards!!! Stopped at a garage and got some chicken skewers and cheese string Hmm and a big bottle of water. School meeting then cooked chilli before collapsing.

My trick for not snacking in the evening is an hour in a hot bath. Can't reach the fridge and drink lots of water to cool off!!

Right - sleep time as early start for work in the morning. Koko all xx

Mimosa1 · 27/02/2019 21:27

I heard that too @StuntNun and I'm wondering if it has any long term ill effects, especially if one then goes back into a standard diet? I say this as a 2!d timer, who lost a bunch of weight on BC before, stopped, and then out 2/3rd back on.

Good today:

B - 2 teas with lactose free milk, eggs and 2 sausages
L - pork satimbocca and brocoli
S - 1 Diet Coke, a hunk of cheese, half a kinder egg (I know), a punnet of raspberries with a very little cream, 2 sq dark chocolate.

D - salmon and cauliflower.

We're cycling everywhere st Centreparks and it's go go go. I'm usually quite sedentary and finding Im ravenous with the extra exercise.

TowandaForever · 27/02/2019 21:38

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good coconut milk ?

twinkledag · 27/02/2019 22:12

I've been reading but not posting. I started well then was off as it was half term so slipped.

Going to post my menus to keep me on track.

Menu tomorrow -

Greek yoghurt
Chicken, houmous and salad
Chicken and cauli rice stir fried with greens

lurknolinger · 27/02/2019 23:29

I like the Aroy D brand of coconut milk. It's got a good percentage of coconut extract which makes it nice and creamy. Only 2.0g of carbs per 100ml, and 19g of fat. I find others can be really watery and sometimes split when you cook them, I've not had that problem using this brand.

Siameasy · 28/02/2019 00:13

Meat only diet update

I am quitting tomorrow. It is absolutely VILE. Not only do I feel sick at the thought of red meat, it’s making me crave the forbidden carbs more. Plus I think it’s giving me insomnia. I feel permanently queasy.

I don’t see any benefits that I wasn’t already getting with LFHC. I miss salad - how sad is that.

Defeated.
