Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

I also find 16:8 easy

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 16:23

I don't understand all of the 16:8 12:12 stuff. Is there any information for dummies? That explains it all fromt eh start? I remember Micheal Mosely doing something about it but can't remember properly Confused

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 16:24

16:8 = you eat in an 8 hour window.

I tend to do 10am - 6pm or 12pm to 8pm.

1stMrsF · 01/03/2019 17:14

Thanks for clarifying @venusandmars I have been eating 16:8 on this woe since I read about the benefits. So I'm hoping that's already helping my loose skin Grin

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 18:03

Ah, that makes sense. I will start doing 16:8. Do you do it every day? I'm just watching some Jason Fung videos on Diet Doctor.

venusandmars · 01/03/2019 18:59

Here's some background information INTERMITTENT FASTING

lurknolinger · 01/03/2019 19:04

TowandaForever Regardin coconut milk I have a Thai supermarket that's local so I get it from there. But I think if they closed I would probably order it from Amazon as I do think it's the nicest one I've had.

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 19:19

ha - Thanks Venus. Those are the videos i'm watching now.

BrassicaBabe · 01/03/2019 19:34

So, my new job will be in Germany every other week. Any advice folks for German eating when I won't be able to prepare my own food? How carby are German sausages compared to ours?!

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 20:09

Yes every day

DCITennison · 01/03/2019 20:09

I popped in earlier in the week to say hi and that I had just started this low carb high fat thing.

I’m still reading as I like seeing all the discussion and I can’t really talk about it in rl for fear of being a diet bore! But I realise I’m at a different stage and a bit out of step with where you all are so I’ll just lurk I think. But I will just say that today was my first weigh-in and I’ve only gone and lost 13lbs Shock Shock

When I was about to get on the scales this morning I gave myself little pep talk - it’s ok if ive only lost a little bit, focus on the energy, glowy skin, feeling more positive and cheerful and in control. The fact that i’m loving the food and never hungry. It’s fine to lose a little bit and then keep on losing little bits.

And all of that’s still true but also...I’ve lost 13lbs!!
Water weight and all that, I know, don’t care the water had to go and puffed my face and ankles out. Bye water!

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 20:17

Wow!! Well done!!

How long have you been on this woe?

Rshard · 01/03/2019 20:20

Wow @DCI! Go you!

nowlook · 01/03/2019 20:26

@DCITennison I remember you checking in because you have a fabulous username! 13lbs is fantastic. Please don't be bothered by how long people have been in bootcamp. There are some on here (not me) who have been doing it for YEARS and they've not been remotely cliquey.

You're clearly reading all the previous threads and the rules and I think that's the key.

You might get a star from @BIWI at this rate, given you've lost almost as much in a week as I have in seven

@MrsKoala I hope It won't be necessary for DH to move back in with fil Thanks

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 20:27

A week!!??? Wow!

nowlook · 01/03/2019 20:30

Oh and @DCITennison there's no way 13lbs is "water weight"...unless you're a fucking cucumber Grin

Siameasy · 01/03/2019 20:53

Frigging hell DCI amazing!
Don’t feel you have to lurk, I love reading about people’s achievements and their thoughts etc
I try not to be a bore but people keep asking me...I only tell them if they ask

tootstastic · 01/03/2019 21:33

Thanks @Rshard! And thanks @Hefzi...Definitely feeling more fulfilled now we have to keep each other going when we're feeling like it's taking forever and a bloody day, don't we?!

@Mimosa1 ooh might have to get the other flavour, that sounds better.

@MrsKoala so sorry to hear about your friend. Just do what feels right for now

Welcome @DCITennison, I'm in the three-figures-to-lose gang too (there are a few of us here). 13lbs is fantastic. Well done on getting started too @67chevvyimpala and @sheepdreams!

@Siameasy a 30" waist, well done you! I dream of that day!

Btw has anyone read the thread on AMA about weight loss surgery? That's where I thought I was heading until I found bootcamp. The lady talks about not craving sugar, as it makes them terribly ill post surgery. So pleased I've suppressed my sugar cravings doing this woe instead! Interestingly, I've lost as much in about the same time frame (four months) without only being able to eat three tablespoons of food at a time. Viva la bootcamp!!

I'm feeling very positive today. I caught sight of myself in the mirror in a lift earlier and I actually didn't look massive. I just looked normal. That's got to be progress, right?! I'm wearing size 16 most of the time now (started at a 20-22) and have even got some size 14 Next and Sainsbury's jeans that fit (both VERY stretchy Lycra obv, but I'll take it!)

Have a great weekend folks. Just think of all those lovely summer clothes if we can just keep going!

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 21:53

THIRTEEN POUNDS!!!! Wow. How brilliant is that?? Well done that’s amazing DCI.

Dinner turned out to be a bit shit in the end. The kids all got needy so I couldn’t get to the kitchen to cook. then DH came home upset as fil has pneumonia and is very unwell. So he only just went to the chippy and got me half a roast chicken which I had with mayo and salad. Now I’m going to bed as I’m tired. I hate eating then sleeping straight away.

I’d be interested to know about the German food too Brassica, I’m always looking at Lidl selection and wondering if it’s LC.

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 21:55

Have I missed a post from ilovecherries saying how she’s doing?

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/03/2019 22:07

Not a terrible day not brilliant either
Strawberries for breakfast
L spring onion.,tomato and avocado omlette ( needed cheese in it to make it better )
D pork meatballs with spicy mushrooms and tomato sauce , cauli rice
Snack wine , lots of wine
Just exhausted, and this is my 2nd Bootcamp , the October one went so much better , and I can’t work out why ?
Will keep ploddong on

Mimosa1 · 01/03/2019 22:11

Hi @MrsKoala I don't think so. I hope @ilovecherries is off having adventures and feeling much better :)

I was a guest at a Russian dinner tonight and had to serve a lot of bookish, mashed potatoes and beetroot. I did the best I could but it was a lot more carby than I'd have liked - lots of stuff pickled with sugar, and I'm sure there was some in the need stroganoff too - lasted really sweet :( I was feeling so pleased with my woosh, don't want it back on before Monday!!! Aaargh well I suppose this is a woe for life and life happens but the timing is really annoying .

Congratulations @DCITennison ! Wowza.

StuntNun · 02/03/2019 06:52

1stMrsF if you're routinely doing 16:8 then it will have a protective effect against loose skin. Once Bootcamp is over it might be worth giving 16:8 a try to see whether it works for you. It usually only takes a couple of fasts to get the hang of it. You get hungry around your normal breakfast time but the hunger passes in 10-15 minutes then starts to rise again at lunch time. I actually do a lot better when I skip breakfast - I find I don't need to snack through the day whereas breakfast makes me hungrier. You don't need to restrict food intake on 16:8, you can have a massive lunch to make up for the missed breakfast. It's the timing of eating that's more important than the calories. Animal studies show more weight loss in the time-restricted feeding group compared to the free feeding group when calorie intake is identical.

Longer 48-72 hour fasts may be beneficial if loose skin is already an issue. Bear in mind that loose skin after weight loss can be because there is still subcutaneous fat under the skin. In this case building muscle is a more effective strategy to fill out the wobbly areas.

nowlook · 02/03/2019 07:31

@StuntNun By 48-72 hour fasts, do you mean eating nothing for 2-3 days? I often manage 24 hours, but haven't tried longer. And I have loose skin to get rid of!
