Week 7 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Girding our loins and getting a grip

BIWI · 25/02/2019 08:51

Morning all

Having a bit of a snigger to myself, because autocorrect wanted me to tile the thread 'Girding our doings ...' Grin

Here's the spreadsheet

We only have four weeks left. I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?!

There's been a bit of slippage going on, I notice - and whilst it's not all been of our own doing, sometimes it's about situations where we've reverted to 'learnt' behaviour or type.

So. Let's all pull our socks up! We have only four weeks left, but those weeks could make all the difference.

If you're worried about how the next few weeks are going to go, perhaps a return to Bootcamp rather than Bootcamp Light might help?

Whatever strategy you adopt, here's wishing us all very good luck

Well done on 3lb Mrs K. Cold sores always come with being run down but some people swear by coconut?
As for the stomach mine annoys me too so maybe a bit of fake tan?

Siameasy · 01/03/2019 08:58

Non scale victory

So we have a uniform at work and the sizing is very precise so eg a size 12 trouser is a 30 waist a 14 a 32 no leeway. Well for the first time in donkeys years I can get into the 30 waist although I’m wearing thermals so I’ve stuck with the 32 which are now huge.

For someone who is thick waisted and puts all her fat on round her waist this is amazing!!!

1stMrsF · 01/03/2019 08:59

Well done @Siameasy!

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 09:58

I was thinking of going back to pilates Venus, I can't do yoga as i'm hyper mobile and get too flexible in all the wrong places. After ds2 I did pilates for my back and found a nice side effect was a more toned body (ds2 was a section and the muscle weakness from ds1 damage combined with ds2 damage meant my back completely crumbled and I was warned by my physio id be bed ridden if I didn't do something quick. She recommended pilates and within 3 months my back was completely cured). It's just finding the time.

I just use zovirax on my cold sores and hope they go quickly. I've never heard of coconut. Is that eating it or rubbing it on?

Well done Siameasy. I think clothes are way more satisfying than scales. I bought some size 14 slim cut trousers the other day and they arrived yesterday and slipped on easily and hang really well. DH has told me i'm looking really trim - so it's not just my opinion Grin .

StuntNun · 01/03/2019 10:16

MrsKoala and NowLook intermittent fasting can help with loose skin if it's still a problem once you've reached your goal weight.

Mimosa1 · 01/03/2019 10:24

Well done in the size 14s @MrsKoala and @Siameasy ! I've got a slim cut pair in my cupboard that I can't get over my thighs yet! I did try a pair of size 14 skinny jeans in a shop on holiday and they just did up but had a lot of stretch. I decided against buying them or the size 16 but I will get the 14 in a few kilos time WHEN I get there.

I'm pleased to report a woosh though. I haven't weighed properly in ages but got back from Centreparks (which was fabulous by the way) and have lost a couple of lbs. it's the very first time EVER I've been in holiday and not thought "fuck it" so I'm feeling most delighted! I think all the exercise running after the children helped, but boy am I shattered!

venusandmars · 01/03/2019 10:49

Food for today:
B - nothing, ate lots last night so fasting till lunch time will be good
L - going out, but have looked at the menu and I'm planning halibut, mussels and cream, followed by steak with chimichurri sauce and a side of broccoli, black garlic, hazelnuts and smoked yogurt
D - curry. I've made 2 types: paneer mutter (cheese and peas) with haloumi instead of paneer, and prawn and coconut cream. Will just have small portions.

Busy weekend coming up so I've got food all planned out. Knowing what there is for meals avoids me grabbing a big mac because I've got hungry and tired.

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 11:10

Where are you going for lunch Venus? - That meal sounds delicious!!

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 11:14

Mimosa - I am a bit of a 'oh treat myself i'm on holiday' person too and half a stone of what I have to lose was gained at my first experience of an all inclusive holiday in November Blush . The holiday in May is also AI and I am already telling myself I don't have to eat everything laid out. Did you self cater at CP or eat out?

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 11:36

Well done everyone.

KiteMarked · 01/03/2019 11:40

I stopped by Tesco today and bought a pair of super high waisted skinny jeans, the tag read £14 but they rang up as £4!

Thought I'd mention it here, because buying clothes when losing weight and in between sizes is expensive. Not at Tesco! It's worth a punt - I tried on some £55 skinnies at John Lewis yesterday, and Tesco's fit better!

(do check at the till before purchasing, I double-checked with the cashier and he said they are marking down all their last season stuff, but it still could have been an error)

Rshard · 01/03/2019 13:20

Love reading everyone’s nsv’s! Love your bargain jeans @kite!

I’ve been running this lunchtime with 3 colleagues, am sitting her with a red face but I really enjoyed it. Been twice this week so feeling like I’m getting back into it.

Dia12 · 01/03/2019 13:35

👍🏼 on the bargain jeans @KiteMarked - it's so satisfying not having to squeeze into ill fitting clothes.
I'm finally able to fit into clothes I haven't worn in ages (that are practically new) and it feels so GOOOOD! I usually would have crashed out of this diet by now, I don't think I've ever been sugar/carb free for this sustained length of time.

The scales however, keep yo-yo'ing, was 71.8 kg yesterday and 72.4 today. Admittedly haven't been able to drink enough water yesterday.

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 13:40

77.5 kgs this morning.

Heaviest I've ever been (when not pg)

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 13:41

I'd like to get to 65kgs

Mimosa1 · 01/03/2019 14:02

You will @67chevvyimpala !

@MrsKoala we self catered - only ate out once - and I'm sure we saved a fortune, plus better for the waistline. I say self cater, but we ate COOK ready meals a couple of times. I was pleased to see a couple of HFLC options. I'm a big fan of that company. The food is fab and they hire long term unemployed people and get them back into work. I promise I don't work for them btw! Just really like their food and ethos

I weighed in at 73.9kg today after a couple of weeks of 100g and 200g losses, 1.3kg off. I hope it sticks for Monday!! Only a few more kilos until I sneak out of the overweight BMI. I am determined to get there.

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 14:26

mimosa - we've been to CP twice and self catered both times. We also took cook meals (I like them too but they cost so much because we need a 4 person meal between 2 of us Blush ) and homemade curries etc with us to save money. Plus I don't really like the chain restaurants they have there. The kids love it and they love their 'holiday house'. Probably because it's not carpeted in lego like their actual house Grin

Had granola and yogurt for lunch as had a call from one of FILs carers to say he had had another fall and they had called an ambulance. So I had to grab something quick between numerous phone calls to DH and watching the kids (the boys are both home today with the runs and ds1 was sick in the bed last night. They still have the strength and inclination to fight tho. sigh)

It's probably going to be an Indian takeaway tonight. I did fancy wagamamas but I doubt dh will want to drive to pick it up. Especially as I have no idea when he will get back from the hospital. He may even want to move back in with FIL...

1stMrsF · 01/03/2019 14:29

Great work @Mimosa1.

@StuntNun do you mean 16:8 by intermittent fasting? Or something more serious like a 24 hour fast? Sorry don't mean to be pedantic but I've seen those two phrases used interchangeably but not sure if they are actually the same thing? I ask because I am also worried about loose skin (two full size full term babies at the same time here, that's a lot of stretching. Not that I don't love them both dearly, but I certainly sacrificed for them!)

L - butternut squash frittata, roasted veg kebab with pesto dressing, salad leaves, tomato and cucumber salsa
D - in two parts as am taking DC to Pizza Express before the school disco. Will have the new chicken wings starter (2.2g of carbs) to prevent me getting so hungry before I get home that I am tempted by dough balls. Then at home am making fish and prawn curry with courgettes and broccoli

Off to drink more water...

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 15:04

Question;
Can you eat pesto cold?

Siameasy · 01/03/2019 15:10

Yes re pesto
I mix it with mozzarella balls cold all the time

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 15:21

I mix pesto cold with mayo and have it with cold roast chicken and salad.

MrsTerryPratcett · 01/03/2019 15:50

I tried pesto out of the fridge yesterday and spat it out. Normally love it but low and behold; sugar. Tasted repulsive. Homemade from now on.

Oh and thanks to Athelstane sneezing, I'm now really sick. And all I want is toast. Buttery toast.

MrsKoala · 01/03/2019 16:01

Looks like the Indian is off and she is at the hospital for the foreseeable. Going to make lamb meatballs in a tomato sauce with fried aubergines and feta cheese I think.

Hope you feel better soon Athelstane and mrsTP. Flowers Colds are shit. I really would prefer d&v or tonsillitis to having a blocked drippy nose.

venusandmars · 01/03/2019 16:11

@1stMrsF I think 'intermittent fasting' covers a whole range of things from 12:12 i.e. no snacking after your tea, to 14:10 (often recommended for women), 16:8, 24hr (sometimes called One Meal a Day or OMAD), 36hr fasts (breakfast on day 1, nothing else till dinner on day 2), plus longer fasts. It also includes the 5:2 diet, where you have a very limited intake on 2 days per week.

Personally I find on this way of eating that I can quite easily do 16:8
I don't feel hungry and it works as a routine way of living. But I do vary it. I've recently had some 2 day events where there has been little or no chance to eat ( and zero chance of eating anything good), so I've had breakfast and then nothing till dinner time. I do feel hungry by dinner time which is why it's important for me to have the meal planned in advance and as much prepared as is possible, so I don't get derailed.

When I'm on 'maintenance' I have carbs once a week (puy lentils or beans). I often follow that by a 20hr fast to get me back to fat burning.

67chevvyimpala · 01/03/2019 16:15

Oh, that sounds yum mrskoala

Sorry about your mil x

I'm feeling quite excited. Dh back from USA and on board too :)
