January 2019 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1

BIWI · 14/01/2019 00:59

Well happy new year!

Here's a sparkling, brand new, Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for us all to get this new Bootcamp off to a good start.

Remember, you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to - and if you don't want to declare your actual weight, you can index it - which means that your starting 'weight' is 100. Then for every pound you lose, you take off one. So if you lose 4lbs in week 1, then your 'weight' starting for week 2 will be 96.

There are over 170 people signed up, so the thread will move very quickly - but please, please, please read all the posts. Don't just jump on and post your own stuff without reading what other people have posted. That's especially the case if you're posting with a question - read the thread to make sure it hasn't already been asked.

Have a good look at the spreadsheet and all the tabs at the bottom, as there's a huge amount of information there - not just the rules, but also the list of vegetable carb counts, and some really interesting reading/videos too.

I hope everything there is clear, but if not - just shout.

Looking forward to getting going!

@Hefzi and @Littleorangetree I too suffer with binge eating (hence me getting so huge) and this is the only diet I've ever known to help with the desire to eat enough for a family of 5 in about 10 minutes.
I'm convinced I'm actually a sugar addict too and I think getting away from the stuff completely has helped me so much. I actually feel like a normal person most of the time around food now, rather than wishing I was alone so I could binge. I'm hoping if I stay on this WOE long enough, that desire might disappear completely.

I had a nice surprise today. The last time I was on a plane, the seatbelt only just did up and it's always been a huge fear that one day I'd need one of those extender things. Well today I boarded with my usual feeling of dread and the seatbelt not only did up easily, but there was at least 8 inches plus of belt left hanging beyond the buckle. I couldn't believe it, it was such a good feeling! i seemed to have more room in the seat too.

I wish I'd have measured at the beginning. I intended to, but never got around to it. This shows I must've lost lots of inches.

I'm away for 4 days with work and there'll be lots of eating out, but booked an apartment instead of a hotel, so I've put cold meats, cheese, salad etc in the fridge in case I need any nibbles. Tonight I ate alone in a restaurant and had ribeye steak with a rocket and Parmesan salad with lemon juice and olive oil dressing and sparkling water. Lunch was the pret crayfish/avocado salad at the airport and breakfast was scrambled eggs with butter.

So I've managed to stay on track for the first day of travel. One down, three to go. I seem to find it hardest when I'm out of routine, so this trip will be a real challenge. One I intend to win, mind.

Rshard · 17/01/2019 21:00

You can navigate the work trip and stick to this woe toots! You’ve planned for it - booking an apartment and getting in hflc foods.

Threeminis · 17/01/2019 21:25

Hi everyone!

I've struggled today, not carb wise, just making myself actually eat. I'm really not hungry.

B - 3 egg omelette with cheese and mushrooms (only ate about 1/3)
L - courgette, kale and spinach soup with double cream
D - slow cooked pork with baby corn, mange tout and tender stem broccoli fried in butter and then some double cream thrown in for good measure

On another note, we're going out for a friend's birthday at the weekend.
Help.. please..

You've got success in the bag, toots! I'm impressed with your organisation and foresight. I, too, tend to lose all my good habits when travelling.

I've been trying to cook low carb meals for the DC but they are obviously missing their pasta and "real" rice. I think I'm going to have to cook carbs for them and alternatives for me just so they actually eat dinner. It should be fine - I'm feeling quite satisfied and food doesn't have such a hold over me these past few days. It's like a pp said - behaving like a normal person around food!

Eating carbs and sugar sends me into a complete bingeing spiral. I don't have a full-blown ED but my relationship with food is still problematic.

BIWI · 17/01/2019 21:25

That is brilliant @tootstastic! And well done for staying so strongly on track Flowers

Threeminis · 17/01/2019 21:26

Kite
I always chuck on some carbs for the dc. Tonight they had the same dinner as me with added mash

tootstastic · 17/01/2019 21:31

Thanks guys, your support really helps.

I do feel really strong and I intend to squeak into the 15st somethings by Monday, so I can't afford to take my eye off the ball. I was 16st 0.8lbs this morning, so only 0.9 lb to go to get into the 15s. Sounds a lot better than 18st 10lbs doesn't it?!

CassieStuart · 17/01/2019 22:03

Feeling quite hungry! It's far too late to eat though.

I wonder if it's because I am eating my dinner much earlier (about 2hours) than I used to have?

I know you are not meant to feel hungry on this plan, and I have eaten three good fatty meals today so I am quite surprised by the hunger pangs.

BIWI · 17/01/2019 22:13

@Threeminis

Plenty of things you could have there!

Starters - the best options would be the smoked salmon with Marie rose sauce, or the prawns Siciliana

Mains - I'd go for a steak but ask them not to bring the fries (or to substitute them with a salad/vegetables)

It sounds lovely!

Checking in, another long but successful day. Food wise anyway. I have sympathy for the teachers earlier in the thread, it's hard to fit in good food choices with school meals, the times I've forgotten lunch and gone to the canteen to find all they have are soggy white bread sandwiches..
Long day, up at 5, bed soon..trying to resist snacking, I'm not hungry. Have drunk so much water I've been peeing all day, keep having to get someone to watch my classes..
B. Boiled egg. Creamy coffee. I'm not doing great at breakfast.
L. Cauliflower quiche and salad, avocado, mayo
D. Lasagne and broccoli
Have had some brie tonight. I'm lacking inspiration, everything is really tasty but I'm eating a lot of the same meals as cooking a lot on my day off then eating it for a few days saves time.
Friday tomorrow...wine day, traditionally...I will be strong! DH has his birthday Saturday, we are going up to Camden, having lunch and dinner out...it's going to be tricky I think!

BrassicaBabe · 17/01/2019 22:23

Phew. Done. I think it's taken me two days to catch-up.

No wine, a million pints of water and exercising like a loon. I deserve to be skinny in the morning damnit Wink

BIWI · 17/01/2019 22:26

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren you're doing fine for breakfast! Honestly, as long as you have something (and an egg is perfect low carb food) that's great.

@BrassicaBabe sounds like you should have dropped at least a stone by tomorrow Wink

B: chorizo slices and cheddar on the move
L/D (half and half of the same cook up: an odd concoction thrown in a frying pan of onions (just a handful), mushrooms, spinach, cheap haddock frozen fillets with philly to make a sauce. It was ok.
S: baby bel and pepperami

Managed a family night out at Pizza Express !! Chicken Caesar Salad with no croutons or dough sticks, dressing on the side which only used a third off!! Drank water and said no to chocolate brownie (crying into hands).
Happy I managed this !!! BUT am still thinking about the brownie now !!!

prettybird · 18/01/2019 00:22

I had to make a batch of tablet this evening (taking some with us tomorrow down to London for an Irish/English friend to try) Shock Those of you who know what tablet is will know that it is the epitome of a non HFLC, being essentially pure sugar Shock and I make very good tablet Hmm

It's impossible to test for soft call stage without actually swallowing the test piece Blush - and because it wasn't quite there yet, I had to do it a second time ShockBlush (because of the constant stirring, I can't use a sugar thermometer Sad).

But at least I have resisted touching any of the scrapings Grin .....and when I score it tomorrow and break it into squares, I'll get dh to try a piece to check that it is a good batch with the right texture Smile

While it was coming up to the boil, before I had to stir constantly, I prepared a whole broccoli head for roasting in olive oil and garlic, which is them finished off with Parmesan and a squoosh of lemon juice. It was yummy Smile (had some with a couple of low carb sausages).....I was going to have the leftovers for breakfast.....Blush

MrsTerryPratcett · 18/01/2019 01:10

prettybird tablet is a heavenly delight. You have the willpower of one of those blokes on a pole. Stylites.

Darkbaptism · 18/01/2019 07:14

I weighed myself this morning and the weight is just falling off! I know it’s because it’s the start but wow, it’s really motivating.

AandL · 18/01/2019 07:32

Its great isnt it @darkbaptism! I was down another lb overnight!

Going here for family dinner tomorrow, think burger in a bowl is the way to go, pic2

KiteMarked · 18/01/2019 07:39

Looking forward to weighing on Monday morning, I hope I'm as successful as you lot!

Today's plans
B: leftover dinner (curry with cauli rice)
L: tuna mayo salad
D: ??? need to hunt for a recipe

BIWI · 18/01/2019 07:53

Glad to hear the scales are your friend @Darkbaptism!

But a quick note, picking up on your comment @KiteMarked - it isn't a competition! Everyone loses at a different rate, so please don't be downhearted if you don't see the same results as other people.

Dark it’s mad isn’t it, I’ve done 5 lb since Monday!

I feel a bit grotty this morning so I think it’s going to be a struggle. At the moment none of my usual breakfast options appeal, and I’m really tired. Think I might actually be coming down with something as think I’ve already been through carb flu.

Urgh and the taste in my mouth 🤢 I know this is ketosis and I’m trying to drink water through it but I’m so paranoid about smelly dog breath! I’ve got a colleague who doesn’t understand personal space and stands too close when she’s speaking

GerrysSuccessor · 18/01/2019 07:56

Oops stopped halfway through! She stands so close and when she wa speaking to me yesterday all I could think was ‘she must be able to smell it!’

MrsFionaCharming · 18/01/2019 08:06

The scales are my friend today! Down 3lb since starting, which considering I did such a rubbish job on Monday is basically a lb loss a day! Very pleased with that.

Just a shame that it won’t continue to decrease in the same way - I’d be at my target weight within a month.

Dia12 · 18/01/2019 08:27

Well done on the amazing losses so far @MrsFionaCharming and @GerrysSuccessor !!! I'm too scared to step on the scales just yet.

I made tiramisu last night for a dinner we're hosting this evening and besides a few tiny swipes for a taste test, I used ALL my willpower and resisted the urge to lick away the sweetened mascarpone.

I'm not doing so great with the water as yesterday only managed 2L where I should be near 3L. Have to make more of an effort with that. Plan for today:
B - cream cheese pancakes (mmmmmm)
L - left over keto Shepard's pie
D - lamb curry with veg

Lost5stone · 18/01/2019 08:29

GerrysSuccessor Frankly I feel people who don't understand personal space deserve to have to endure smelly breath!

As of this morning I am 4.6lb off since Monday so feeling happy!

Today:
B: Creamy coffee and yog
L: bit of left over stir fry from last night and also packed a little cheese salad as there isn't much stir fry
D: Chicken curry, probably just on its own
E: Gym after work
