Welcome everyone. We have over 150 people signed up this time, so it's going to be pretty busy, and the initial chat thread is going to be very fast-moving!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for you to post your starting weight.

Remember, you don't have to input your actual weight if you don't want to - you can index it, which means starting at 100 and then for every pound you lose, you take off a point.

If your name isn't on the spreadsheet, don't panic! Just add your name to the bottom, and then the lovely @AthelstaneTheUnready will re-alphabetise the list.

If you're on the spreadsheet and you don't want to be, don't worry - just don't enter any info, and then you'll be deleted after the first couple of weeks.

I have a Good grips Julienne peeler which I use for courgetti.. (i bought mine from a local cook/hardware shop but the price was about the same i think ) I used to use a hand-held spiralizer but in the end couldn't be faffed with the taking apart and washing of the darn thing !

BrassicaBabe · 17/10/2018 20:19

Bootcamp veteran here and a committed LCHF'er. I'm enjoying following the thread.

I made a chicken/chorizo slow cooker recipe today. The recipe called for chicken thighs, bone in, skin off. So I'm currently cooking chicken skin crackling! I love this woe!

bleuch, cauliflower, grim. I do love cauliflower cheese, but as soon as it gets a bit tepid it's very very wrong and awful. And those limp pallid stems that restaurants used to serve in side dishes... Envy not envy

Sounds like people have had good days! Mine's also been good for food, but feeling very down this afternoon which has made the evening struggle not to have a glass of wine a bit tougher. Made it though .

When's the interview, Henry?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2018 20:26

Hi, Babe Grin

That does sound good - does it end up nice and thick and sticky? And if so, how? I gave up on my slow cooker because nothing seemed to blend, and it was all too watery (and no, I didn't add extra liquid!).

ilovecherries · 17/10/2018 20:28

The whole abstained vs moderator thing is interesting. I’m quite clear that I’m an abstainer. I know that if I started to make exceptions, I’d find a reason for every day to be an exception. Low carb baking etc wouldn’t keep on track, it would absolutely derail me. I think the fact that I made a hardline decision is what has kept me going through 18 months, including The World’s Longest Stall. Although I went a long time without any loss, I’ve never gained either. I can only face doing this once! I was the same with smoking though (and alcohol although I didn’t intend that, it was only a short term intention). Hard stop then never again. All I need to do is get as committed to exercise, and the job is done. I will officially be a non smoking, non drinking, carb free health nut. Grin

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/10/2018 20:32

Have been studying the spread sheets , thank @BIWI 👍

B hard boiled egg and loads of coffee
L salad leaves , avo , cucumber and salmon mayonnaise
D courgetti ( yes , I have a spiralizer which I blew the dust off ) with a sauce of leftover pork from yesterday with some added cherry tomatoes

A friend called in today and gave me a bottle of fresh apple juice ( pressed this morning ) I’m planning on freezing it in small portions and using it to make apple tea / squash after the first two weeks of fruit free , hope this works with the plan

abbey44 · 17/10/2018 20:36

Hi cherries - you can borrow my dogs if you like - they need a two-hour walk every day and you can't get much more committed to exercise than that Grin

I absolutely agree with you about the abstaining vs moderating thing too. I quit smoking (and drinking, as the two went hand-in-hand for me) a couple of years ago, never looked back. Well, for the fags, anyway - I do sometimes have a glass of wine but that's it. Bread is my downfall. I cannot moderate that, but abstaining isn't so much of a stretch.

ilovecherries · 17/10/2018 20:45

Oh, I always do my 12000 steps every day. But I’m trying to cajole myself into more strength work. At my age, really need to preserve that, but jeez, it’s boring!

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 17/10/2018 20:47

@PurpleMac
Brave doing the double quitting but good for you if like my daughter you react to the caffeine easily watch out for the sneaky stuff in tea , "Decaffeinated" things, and even Gum.

Just wondering if anyone else makes the Cocoa butter - Butter-coffee
and reuses the mug all day to remove any choccy cravings?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2018 20:48

There was something on the bbc site the other day, which said you could still see substantial bone density benefits just from doing 10 star jumps twice a week.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/10/2018 20:50

You've lost me there, Grah Grin. I get the cocoa butter thing (although I get my kicks from the Montezuma 100% cocoa with nibs and orange oil... bliss... - but how does re-using the mug help?

MrsCoyote · 17/10/2018 20:50

@BIWI you are right, the yoghurt with cocoa is probably too similar to sweet things (although the carb count of cocoa powder is realy not bad).

Yoghurt with tsp nescafe (instant coffee) is also yum - could that be better?
Maybe I should prefer scrambled eggs :-).

BrassicaBabe · 17/10/2018 21:12

@AthelstaneTheUnready here's the recipe. I didn't have any wine so effectively cut the liquid in half

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/slow-cooker-spanish-chicken

Chicken skin then later stuck on a tray sprinkled with sea salt and rosemary and popped in the oven

Doilooklikeatourist · 17/10/2018 21:28

I bot reallly excited in Tesco , saw Greek yoghurt with espresso
And it was Total , sadly 0% though
Might try making some with an espresso, double cream and some Greek yog ...
Will report back ..

WheelyCote · 17/10/2018 21:52

Think I might be taking up star jumps lol

WheelyCote · 17/10/2018 21:54

Brassica think I'll try that recipe too, cheers!

Are chickpeas carby?

A low carb slow Cooker thread would be fab

prettybird · 17/10/2018 22:46

Yes, chick peas are carby.

PanamaPattie · 17/10/2018 22:47

Can I do LC with Stage 3 kidney disease?

WheelyCote · 17/10/2018 22:50

Cheers pretty. Darn it. Found a chickpea curry recipe lol I'll side step it

WheelyCote · 17/10/2018 22:53

Panama I'd speak to your doctors first to check. I suspect it may knock your u+e's and lft bloods out of balance. They may just want to monitor you more whilst your on it

MumOfAPickle · 17/10/2018 23:35

Thanks biwi for the noodle advice - so it’s the oomi noodles not the konjac ones? Sorry being a bit dim!

wheelycote I adapted this recipe: www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1076650/chicken-mushroom-soup-

Missed out the flour altogether and swapped the carrots and green onions for shallots. I used some nice shiitake mushrooms and some dried porcini ones that had been languishing in the cupboard for a few months. It’s yum!

Chesterfieldsofa · 17/10/2018 23:40

This isn't going well. Went to the theatre last night and dh got me a gin & tonic (don't usually drink, it's just a theatre thing), and the kids went to the fair and bought candy floss back for me. It seems a very anti-social way of eating and very restrictive. I know it gets more relaxed after another 10 days, but I have two meals out and a coffee & cake date in that time. I couldn't just say no to the candy floss, pocket money present from them.
