The final weigh-in - Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 23/07/2018 07:42

Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

Fantastic ajandjjmum Smile

Did you mention the Dr Atkins mis-information?

BIWI · 27/07/2018 13:40

@Catbot I am leaving my job in early November, and one of the projects I have is exactly that!

My idea was to put together a series of recipes, say 50 at a time, based on low carb themes. The first one (which I've already almost got enough recipes for), will be low carb family meals. With British weights and measures, and no 'weird' ingredients!

Dr Atkins was not killed by LCHF FFS! He was vilified at the time as HF was seen as dangerous. A lot of pp still think that, including many medical practitioners. However we know it’s not true!

colouringinagain · 27/07/2018 18:05

BIWI a book would be fab! Well done everyone on their losses!

Struggling more today, think I may have some rehydration salts. Will be having a glass of wine tonight, but back on the case tomorrow.

qumquat · 28/07/2018 11:37

Thanks @bingenomore (another former binger here - love the name change!). I managed to stick mainly to bootcamp while camping but did get a bit sick of hard boiled eggs! I had a couple of planned lapses and luckily they didn't throw me way of course. I've come home to a 2lb gain which is about what I expected. I really noticed that when I ate carbs I overate. Tim Noakes also writes in the Real Meal Revolution about how carbs mess with your sense of hunger and satiety and I really noticed that. When I had pizza and a trip to the chippy I just kept on eating.

It's so great to read everyone's updates and summer goals. My next goal is training for a half marathon in October. Finding it too hot to run at the moment though!

wentmadinthecountry · 28/07/2018 21:48

I'd buy the book! I can see the film now - Mumsnet to movie. Seriously.

Day 4 and I feel lighter. As long as I keep going I know this works for me. Am cheating with red wine but I know that will be fine. Definitely up for your next bootcamp! I so want to look less fat when I go back to school in September!

ilovecherries · 28/07/2018 23:15

NSV. I needed new running shorts. In a size 10!!!!!!!!!!!

StuntNun · 29/07/2018 07:57

Woop woop Cherries Halo

TerfsUp · 29/07/2018 08:15

Morning, all!

I've had some personal issues to deal with this year which would normally mean stress eating. However, thanks to all everyone here - and especially BIWI - I've managed to keep that more or less under control.

Yes, I've eaten and drunk off-piste a number of times, but I've always treated those occasions as blips and not a signal that I should return to my old, unhealthy eating habits. I would never be able to do that if I were doing a low calorie diet.

So, here's to the second half of 2018 being better than the first!

And that goes double for you, DestinysDaughter, as you've had your own struggles lately.

KOKO, everyone!

BIWI · 29/07/2018 08:33

Great news @ilovecherries! Star

@TerfsUp - sounds like you're doing really well Smile. Sorry to hear about personal issues, but hope they're resolved/will be resolved soon

That's great wentmadinthecountry Smile

Have you measured yourself? That's also a good measure, as sometimes when the scales aren't moving, the measurements are still decreasing ConfusedSmile

Also, it's really motivating to see the decrease in your waist measurement as that means that you are losing the dangerous visceral fat.

Rshard · 29/07/2018 09:05

Fab ilove

Well done terfsup, hope things are getting better.

ajandjjmum · 29/07/2018 09:24

My life must be pretty sad - I was dreaming about this woe last night. DH and I had a meal, and were choosing pudding. There was nothing I liked, so rather than choose something that looked ok, I asked for coffee. Feel quite proud of myself in my dream. Grin

Are there any general trends to weight loss when you start this woe? I've paused now after an initial 3lb. Forgot to do a waist measurement before I started, but pretty sure it's less. I definitely don't feel as bloated.

Had a vv low carb day yesterday, so treated myself to a chicken saag Masala I found in Waitrose. Half pack is 8g carb, so had that with broccoli, yum!

Over the hols I do need some low prep options...

boldlygoingsomewhere · 29/07/2018 10:05

Went out for the day yesterday and ended up walking for 6 hours. What I found amazing was that I just didn’t feel tired - no aching feet or legs, no sense of hunger or needing something to ‘pick-me-up’. I also fit back into my smaller size jeans - a little tight but can do the zip up and get it over my hips again. Smile

Well done on your NSV, cherries.

Terfsup, it’s great that you’ve kept going through all your difficulties. It’s hard to break emotional eating habits.

bobow · 29/07/2018 10:33

Boldly - I could have written your post! I took DS2 to the zoo yesterday and definitely felt like I had a spring in my step. Great to climb up steps without sweating and achy knees. I often read about people having increased energy when they lose weight but have never really experienced it myself until yesterday.
I can also do up my size 16 jeans, need a few more pounds until I can wear them comfortably though.
Best of all I have now lost 10% of my body weight since last summer. I've set myself a new long term target of 12st 6, that's 10% down from today's weight. Depressingly that will still see me with an obese BMI, but only a few pounds away from overweight. Just got to keep reminding myself I'm 23lbs closer to a healthy weight than I was last autumn. Shorter term goal is to lose 5lbs which will take me to a 2st life as since my heaviest (and should get me into my size 16 jeans).
Ilovecherries - great news about your size 10s, it stories like that that help keep me motivated.

prettybird · 29/07/2018 10:37

Had written a very long reply colouringinagain - but then my phone decided to shut down and I lost it Sad

Short answer is No - there is no typical weight loss profile and make sure to take measurements so that you can also see progress there when the scales don't move.

colouringinagain · 29/07/2018 11:45

Ah prettt I hate it when that happens!!!

Thanks though. Waistline is definitely better. Measured today at 34 inch. I'm estimating it was 35 a week ago as I was very bloated.

Away this weekend so there will be a cake involved at some point, but that's prob all!

Also tmi I'm usually at risk of constipation, but nice and regular! Have wondered for a while if gluten/wheat is not my friend...

ilovecherries · 29/07/2018 12:05

Last July I (very tentatively) started to run in Mallorca. I was two stone down by then and weighed about 14 stone 5 lbs. Hard to believe but I was actually feeling quite light and was really pleased because I was finding my size 22s quite loose and comfy. I bought a pair of men’s size XL shorts for running. So a woman’s size 10 seemed like a dream - I thought if I could get into an 18 I’d be delighted. And yesterday I just shimmied into the 10s no problem.

Laska5772 · 29/07/2018 13:19

im just place marking here so I remember to WI tomorrow . Smile

BIWI · 29/07/2018 13:24

@colouringinagain

There does seem to be a pattern that some people have reported over the years - 3lbs loss, followed by a period of no loss, followed by another 3lb loss. You'll see people say often 'weight loss isn't linear' and this is what they mean.

In weeks 1 & 2 you'll see the most loss - sometimes it's quite spectacular! - and then it's very common in weeks 3 & 4 to see little or not loss at all. It should pick up again in week 5, at a slightly slower rate. 1-2lbs a week is good progress.

wentmadinthecountry · 29/07/2018 23:00

So impressed Ilovecherries. I will think of you while I work on my weight loss. You are an inspiration - if you can do it, so can I! Can't even imagine size 10 anything right now but baby steps...

Twoo · 30/07/2018 08:48

Is this where it was said to keep weighing in?

10st 5.3lbs

Laska5772 · 30/07/2018 09:03

ah my putative 1lb loss went back on .. so once more I am (still)158 .
thats ok ..
