Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

Right Ive decided . What i miss most on LC is not sugar, not bread not potatoes, not rice not even tortilla chips (ok maybe I am missing tortilla chips ) .

its Beans and other legumes, kidney beans, black-eyed beans ,chickpeas, lentils etc

... I am making a beanless chilli right now Sad Grin

But oh I'd love a Spinach and coconut Dhal with Indian pickles like wot I used to make ...

Just thought i'd say that .. I'm sticking to LC because its working and I love the WOE , but I just thought I'd say it anyway.. (ok maybe I am missing tortilla chips ) .

BIWI · 21/08/2018 22:24

There's no reason why you can't have beans/legumes/pulses once you reach your target weight, @Laska5772! Certainly better than tortilla chips

Another stone to go BIWI (so even more incentive!) Wink

I need a tortilla chip substitute, (but not yet ) .

BIWI · 21/08/2018 22:39

Have you tried making parmesan crisps? Recipe on the recipe thread (I think it's on the vegetarian one). If you add black pepper and chilli, it will be a bit like a tortilla crisp!

sounds much better than Kale Smile, will have a look, but I dont want to get too much back into my old snacking ways ..

prettybird · 21/08/2018 22:51

I had my pork belly & chorizo casserole tonight (recipe in the Meat (Beef/Pork etc) recipe thread) - very tasty - and very easy to make! Mine was served up with runner beans microwaved in butter (dh and ds had it with rice). Lovely Smile

As dh said, smacking his lips, "You've nailed that dish" Grin

I now have to make a triple quantity (1.5kg of pork belly Shock) which might last 3 meals (9 portions) but will probably only last 2 meals, with dh sneaking portions for snacks Wink It's a great meal for ds' training nights (Tuesday & Thursday) as he only gets in about 9.

My "new" recipe this week was last night's "Royal Coronation Chicken": boneless chicken thighs marinaded in blitzed ginger, chili, cardamom, garlic, ground almonds, Greek yoghurt and cream cheese and then grilled/BBQed (I made a mistake and tried griddling them rather than following the recipe Blush). Served it with more butter runner beans and a tzatziki that I made from a cucumber from my greenhouse and garlic from the garden. Halo

That recipe sounds lovely!

Parmesan crisps are very nice! I’ve also used plain old cheddar and that works too.

I’ve also found that making some of the ‘Low-Carb Londoner’ flax bread helps when I just feel like I need a base to spread something on.

prettybird, that meals sounds delicious!

ilovecherries · 22/08/2018 07:02

Is that true, BIWI, I can tolerate beans and pulses once I’m at target? I had imagined that they were all off the menu for life. I’ve really missed chilli with beans. I make a meat and veg one, but it’s not the same. And lentil soup. I used to love that. I don’t really miss grain based things or sugar at all. I’m human obviously, occasionally (usually if I’m not feeling well), when I regret the loss of toast, and now and again think ‘it would be nice to have a scone/eclair/pudding/banana/slice of pineapple etc’ but if I just let it pass, it does. But beans and pulses have left an itch I’d like to scratch sometimes.

Rayna37 · 22/08/2018 07:40

I definitely tolerated pulses in my pre-baby weight LCHF WoE, just maintaining around a BMI of 21-22. I think they're similar to sweet potato in carbs: a bit high but nothing like bread, pasta etc, ok maybe once or twice a week in maintenance.

Lowest weight since before France this morning, I realise I have to tell myself I am actually on a diet and that I just CANNOT have certain things, which is a mindset that had slipped. Yesterday I had:
B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter
L: 2 boiled eggs, the yolks mixed with Cheshire cheese, mayo and chives, with a salad of spinach and cucumber and olive oil and ACV dressing.
D: pork steak with a sauce made from Aldi own brand (lower carb) Philadelphia, shallot, mushroom and wholegrain mustard, wigh courgette and kale sautéed in butter.
1tea with milk, 2 coffees with coconut cream. Water on target.
I avoided the urge to dive in the cupboard for nuts, dark chocolate and crackers which last week I would have eaten!

prettybird · 22/08/2018 08:13

Having challenged myself to make a new recipe a week, I've got 3 recipes to post onto the recipe threads Smile

BlackMozart · 22/08/2018 08:39

prettybird I am definitely going to look up that recipe. I am looking for new family meal using chorizo. I do a chicken and chorizo one but that also has butter beans in so not for me.

prettybird · 22/08/2018 09:33

BlackMozart - I adapted it from a Guardian recipe that also had either chickpeas or butter beans in it, but as I never had them in it, I've never missed them Grin

I also now use banana shallots rather than onions to further lower the carbs.

It would work well in a slow cooker if you have one.

LeapinLizards · 22/08/2018 09:35

Hello everyone, just popping in to say hello after my hols. Ive caught up on the thread - congrats to you cherries and welcome to the newbies.
I pretty much stuck to HFLC while on holidays apart from last couple of days when we were staying with friends & i ate whatever they served (inevitably it was carby). I had one massive slip-up when we got home when I fell headlong into a big bag of doritos - I felt so sad that the holidays were over & so sad that my dad was still dead (I realise this makes no sense). However, I've drawn a line under that aberration & I've been back on it for past couple of days.
Inevitably, I've put on a few pounds but that's ok. I am going to go easy on self until 1 Sept then start my next BC early.

bobow · 22/08/2018 18:45

After my disappointment of being 2lbs up on Monday, I'm 4lbs lower than that today! My weight does always bounce around a little but not normally that much.
I've (mainly unsuccessfully) followed these boards for a long time, but it's only since this May I've done it properly (for me that meant giving up a serious Diet Coke addiction). The one thing I never understood was when posters would say how they skipped meals because they weren't hungry. I've rarely been hungry but I am a real grazer and have always wanted to eat food even when following LCHF (though I only ever lasted a couple of months at a time in the past). Well, my appetite has changed. I had some Greek yogurt with cream today and haven't had anything since - and I've been at home most of the day which normally leads to lots of grazing. I'm hoping TWOE is finally the way to keep my eating under control. Off to have some chicken curry with lots of veg.

BlackMozart · 22/08/2018 20:25

Thanks prettybird I have an Aga so that will work!

Rayna37 · 22/08/2018 21:21

Another good food day ticked off and a long run.
B: 2 eggs scrambled with butter
L: feta and olives with salad of spinach, cucumber, tomato and radishes with olive oil and ACV dressing.
D: pan-fried sea bass with steamed broccoli with butter, and a big pile of sautéed kale and courgette. Yogurt with almond butter (my first cheat this week- BC light!). Water almost there, 2 teas with milk and a coffee with coconut cream which is ok but not sure I'll bother buying again

3stonedown · 23/08/2018 11:49

I'll have to try the pork belly chorizo casserole. Not really my thing but DP would be in heaven. Started 16:8 yesterday and finding it OK, although 11am (I do 11-7) I am ravenous and have just assumed loads of nuts so probably isn't worth it!

StuntNun · 23/08/2018 13:59

3stonedown it takes a few days to get used to 16:8. Basically your stomach is expecting food at certain times of the day so you feel hungry even if you don't need to eat. It doesn't take long to break that habit and learn to eat within your window. It's also common to overeat on the first few fasts but that will die down too.

prettybird · 23/08/2018 14:43

Thought I should mention (for those that are going to try it) that when I tripled+ the pork belly and chorizo recipe (used 3 x 500g packs of pork belly from Lidl), I only used 1.5 cartons of passata (and no tomato purée) I'd had half a carton in the fridge that needed used up and one can of tomatoes, plus only about 400ml (a can and a half) of water.

colouringinpro · 23/08/2018 15:45

No good today, a week of back pain has driven me to a millionare shortbread.

Hey ho.

3stonedown · 23/08/2018 15:49

Thanks for the reassurance stuntnun I feel like a bit of a gluttous pig right now. Everything's been low carb but I've had 4 sausages so many nuts some 85%choc... Just all bad things. Not enough veg and not enough water. I expect some of this is due to AF who arrived this morning

Laska5772 · 23/08/2018 15:51

I 'happened' to be in Waitrose yesterday in the early evening just as they re-reduced their reduced stuff ..

Got lots of great meat deals , pork , lamb, steak etc (now all in the freezer) and a few cartons of potted shrimp reduced (I really love these).. Really pleased ....snaffled about £40 of stuff for under £15.. Grin

Laska5772 · 23/08/2018 15:51

oh and 4 packs of cooking chorizo. so i may also make that casserole !

prettybird · 23/08/2018 16:01

Oh - and I no longer peel the chorizo (haven't noticed the difference and I'm lazy Wink) - just cut it in half lengthways and then into c1/2" chunks.
