The final weigh-in - Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 23/07/2018 07:42

Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

That’s great news, ilove!

I’ve spent the last couple of days feeling much hungrier than usual - think I need to up my fat.

Had a really simple dinner last night but it was so tasty - sea bass with roasted courgette.

Ragwort · 09/08/2018 09:23

Can I ask how those of you who have successfully lost weight on LC adapt to maintenance when you reach your target weight? I still have another stone to lose so it may take a while but if you stay on this WOE do you just go on losing weight forever Grin?

BIWI · 09/08/2018 11:29

No, @Ragwort! You'll reach a stage where you don't lose any more.

Then the tricky part starts for you - sticking at that weight. You need to be realistic though, and accept that for everyone our weight fluctuates on a daily basis. So you need to set yourself a range that you feel is acceptable.

Let's say your target is 9 stone. A good range would probably be from 9 up to max 9 stone 7 lbs.

If you know that you're including more carbs in your diet on a daily basis, then you need to keep weighing, and if you spot your weight increasing, and can see it's a definite trend rather than a daily fluctuation, then you pull back on the carbs.

But you can't just revert back to how you were eating before you started low carbing, as that is a guarantee that the weight will go back on!

Awesome ilove!

Great advice re maintenance BIWI, this is where I’ve failed big time in the past!

Ragwort · 09/08/2018 12:28

Thanks BIWI, that makes sense. I genuinely think it will be easier to maintain (after a life time of diets!!) as this WOE includes so many lovely things to eat that you don't feel deprived. I am also being a lot more realistic about how much I can lose & not weighing myself too often, easier to tell by how my clothes fit. My aim now is to lose another 6lbs before my holiday on 1st Sept, another 6lbs when I return before my next holiday on 6 Oct Blush and then refocus with the Oct boot camp .... leading up to Christmas.

Again, many thanks to everyone in Boot Camp for the support and motivation. I have just made the most amazing cheese muffins/scones for brunch using ground almonds, really yummy and don't taste of almonds. Will add recipe to recipe thread.

That's good to hear Cherries I think prolonged stalls are often part and parcel of weight loss and sometimes KOKO is the best thing to do.

Ragwort you won't keep losing weight for ever, you will reach an equilibrium point eventually. At that point you can reintroduce some carbier foods such as fruit, high carb veggies such as potatoes, and maybe even small amounts of rice. You will still need to restrict grains and sugars to occasional consumption to maintain your weight loss. The first time I reached maintenance I continued eating low carb but allowed myself a cheat meal once a week which would be something like having a naan with curry or having a dessert - it didn't mean going mad with a carbfest once a week. But the second time I reached maintenance (losing the baby weight after DS4) I had been eating low carb for a lot longer and those types of foods had lost a lot of their appeal. Now a "cheat" for me is an apple or a few grapes or a roast potato with my Sunday lunch. I do occasionally make exceptions, for example for my kids' birthdays, but that's more for them than for me iyswim.

Laska5772 · 09/08/2018 16:29

rayna i think you must have talked about running with the buggy with someone else.. . I'm a gran!

Laska5772 · 09/08/2018 16:29

prettybird · 09/08/2018 17:23

Spent a lovely afternoon having coffee with TimeIHadANameChange Brew Wide-ranging discussions about cats, rabbits, running, cycling, languages, Boot Camp...... Smile I probably talked too much Blush

All the Boot Campers I've met are lovely Smile I wonder if there is a correlation? Wink

3stonedown · 09/08/2018 17:40

Ahh it's nice to see MNers meeting in real life.

Great to hear your half a pound cherries after your stall, it's strange how our bodies react even when we are eating the same food.

Buggy runner was me rayna I just came back from our first. It wasn't far (2.5k) just to see how I got on and it wasn't as hard as I was expecting but still much harder than usual running. I think I'll pop down to parkrun with DD sat and see how we get on for 5k. I ran my first 10k yesterday which felt good

sheldonesque · 09/08/2018 18:09

Tiny bit down, tiny bit up for me.

I did succumb to a slice of bread and peanut butter.

Still stressed, still struggling to sleep but I am slowly getting a hold of my emotional eating.

The weight might not really be shifting but the great overhang that was my belly is not drooping over my smalls. My waist is getting smaller and the norkage that was on my back is pinch an inch rather than wobble a great big handful.

Flowers qumquat I still sniff bread - I understand the lure of a whole loaf.

prettybird · 09/08/2018 18:41

I think/have personal experience that every so often our bodies like to pause and reset after big losses before the scales start moving down again.

In my case it was after the first 2 stone, then after the next stone.

It's as if our body needs to get used to the new weight before "accepting" that it is ok to let go of more fat.

I'm hoping that after having got through my last stall, I've got at least half a stone to go before my body decides to pause again Grin. I'd like to get into the "10 stone somethings" before the next Boot Camp, which would also mean a normal BMI before I stall again I also don't want as long a stall as Ilovecherries as I'd like to get to under 10 stone 7lb by Christmas Wink

Rayna37 · 09/08/2018 21:53

Ha ha sorry for the mix-up Laska no buggies coming your way, don't worry. 3stonedown glad it's gone ok so far, have a great parkrun!

Laska5772 · 10/08/2018 13:11

Hi everyone. Caught up with the thread and done a big food shop and feeling prepped but sad that Ocado has stopped celeriac rice - nooo!!! I've bought a whole celeriac and it's so bloody solid. I've clearly got cheap-y knives but any tips on cutting the celeriac into chips without a bloodbath?

Rshard · 10/08/2018 19:37

They’ve not had it for a while I’m afraid mimosa, I have to grab it when I’m somewhere with a Waitrose. I did spot one with cauliflower and kale on Ocado but it also had grains so I left it.

Good news though, I bought the most beautiful looking swede in my local coop today.

prettybird · 10/08/2018 23:39

For celeriac chips, I cut the celeriac in half, then cut c.1cm slices using a very big knife and then cut "chips" from that. Might be a bit of waste on the "root-y" end, but I reckon it's worth it for reducing the angst Grin

Do similar with swedes/neeps. None of this faffing around with small knives/vegetable peelers Wink

BIWI · 11/08/2018 07:43

I do it exactly as prettybird does. Definitely a big, heavy knife to get the peel off - no faffing about trying to do it elegantly!

So happy to hear the news, Destinysdaughter.

Just popping in to say that I have been doing this woe for just over eight months now. Weight is coming off in fits and starts, which is fine as it is in the right direction!

I now think of low-carb as a woe rather than a diet. Bread as an indulgence rather than a standard part of my diet. I've had a sushi a couple of times, too, and have enjoyed every mouthful as I know that it is a treat rather than something to have as a standard Friday evening takeaway.

This is a million miles away from how I ate at the beginning of this year.

Thank you, everyone - and especially BIWI, for the low-carb threads and cheerleading. I may not post much but I do read and I'm with all of you every step of the way to your goals.

KOKO, all!

TerfsUp · 11/08/2018 07:56

Oops. Forgot to read to the end of the thread before posting.

For those whose victories I missed - great stuff, all y'all!

bobow · 11/08/2018 09:00

Hello all, I've just come back from a week away and was very pleased this morning to find my weight has STS. I was pretty good with food, stayed as low carb as I could (though probably didn't get enough fat) and limited my wine intake to 1-2 small glasses per day. It was also my birthday and the DCs had got me chocolate! Managed to get away with only eating 1.
Summer is often a difficult time for me food wise. I teach, so my usual routines gone, and when it comes to food in the past, I tend to have an 'in for a penny, in for a pound' approach - I am definitely not a moderator!
Off to the in laws for a few days next week which will be tricky, but determined to get through it.
I also had a NSV this week. I have an ample bosom and when I fold my arms my arms sit on top of my bosom. Well no more, shrinkage means I can crops my arms under by boobs!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/08/2018 08:21

Well done, bobow! Great result for a holiday.

I’ve been reading Jason Fung’s book on fasting - very interesting and I think I may give it a try.

BIWI · 12/08/2018 08:41
