Good morning all, for the final Monday of this Bootcamp.

Here's the spreadsheet for its last outing!

I hope very much that the last ten weeks have been successful for everyone - whether that's on the scales, seeing your clothes fit better, better health and general enjoyment of your food!

I'll keep this chat thread going, and when it's full, will start another one until we start the next Bootcamp, which will start in mid-October.

Oh, the usual stuff, stunt. Lots of calorie and carb counting. Lots of fasting before they are ready, then it being a horrible experience. Lots of faux foods. Lots of ‘being naughty’. And at the other extreme, an awful lot of enabling and reassuring that it’s ok to eat whatever they want - which of course, is true, but it’s not really going to work. I have been thrown out of one for not being ‘nice’. Oops! Grin (I really WAS nice, and very kind and supportive. But I wasn’t going to enable someone to inhale a cinnamon roll).

Laska5772 · 06/08/2018 20:15

I didnt have breakfast except coffee, but had Chicken Caesar salad ( no bread or croutons) in cafe for lunch. Also iced ginger tea which was a revelation.. Ive cone home and made a big carafe full. Just lemon and ginger teabags , brewed then chilled, added lime slices and cucumber plus mint leaves.. served over more ice.. Lovely

Dinner has been a homemade fish curry with h load of veg in.. just eaten out of a bowl on its own .

Lots of water ..but ill have more yet .
fat head pizza looks good, .. Ill have to look for the recipe

Justmuddlingalong · 06/08/2018 20:22

Ooh, that iced tea sounds lovely, @Laska5772. What other low carb drinks are you all enjoying? Sometimes a nice drink replaces picking when you're thirsty rather than hungry.

ilovecherries · 06/08/2018 20:25

I bought a ridiculously expensive tub of twinnings cold infusion tea bags. They are extremely pleasant but will try chilling the hot stuff for a better price.

Laska5772 · 06/08/2018 20:32

Cherries I made the infusion with two tea bags and just left
them in until they cooled . I also added some additional fresh sliced ginger. which is still in the carafe

Laska5772 · 06/08/2018 20:36

I used Pukka tea lemon ginger and manuka honey tea ( its just honey flavouring) but i cant taste it at all, ( but i have had them in my cupboard since the winter .

Rshard · 06/08/2018 21:48

That ice tea sounds so nice laska! What quantity of water to the two bags please?

qumquat · 07/08/2018 06:45

I think I'm going to bow out for the time being. Had another big binge last night. I think if bread hadn't been banned I might not have had quite such a 'fuck it I'll eat the whole loaf then' reaction to eating one slice. Staying at my mum's so emotions running high. I think I'll just have to get back on the wagon once school starts again and my life feels back under control.

3stonedown · 07/08/2018 07:05

laska your iced tea sounds great. I'm kind of imagining a ginger non alcoholic pimms.

qumquat sorry to hear that, Could I convince you to stay by suggesting you have 1 or 2 weeks off rather than til the end of the month. It might give you the break you want

Bloodylovepotatoes · 07/08/2018 08:13

qumquat that's why I quit low carb last time, because it was triggering binge eating for me. I have a history of ED so I don't do well on elimination diets. Really hoping this time will be different. Flowers for you.

StuntNun · 07/08/2018 08:21

LeapinLizards you can assess your metabolic flexibility by how you feel when you eat carbs and when you fast. If you feel like crap after a cheat - e.g. tired or hangry - then the rapid insulin rise and resulting crash is affecting you badly and you are relatively inflexible. If you can get straight back to low carb and feel fine then you're more flexible. Similarly, the longer you can go without food with no problems, for example doing 24-hour fasts, then you're more metabolically flexible than someone who can only manage a 16-hour fast before they need to eat. If you're quite new to eating low carb then it takes time to recover your insulin sensitivity and regain metabolic flexibility. If you've been eating this way for months and you want to improve your metabolic flexibility then add in some exercise, particularly HIIT or strength training, and work on gradually increasing the length of your overnight fast.

Justmuddling and Cherries I dunk regular fruit teabags in water (fizzy water is best) and leave it in the fridge for half an hour or so to infuse. I'm not convinced you need to use hot water and cool it down, or use special cold infusion tea bags. I love the Taylor's Sour Cherry and their Raspberry Lemonade. I only put one teabag in a 2 litre bottle of water. If you're using fizzy water you have to watch out for it fizzing up when you're opening the bottle.

Qumquat I'm sorry to hear you're finding things so tough at the moment. If you're going back to carbs then do try to stick to healthy carbs, especially vegetables and fruit, with smaller quantities of bread, pasta and rice. If you can steer clear of sugar then you'll find it much easier to come back to low carb once you're ready.

LeapinLizards · 07/08/2018 09:02

Thanks @stuntnun. I will experiment with the fasting & try to make that last a bit longer. I already go jogging so do some exercise though not any HIIT or strength. I've been LCing since 1 Jan so relatively new to it.
@qumquat sorry to see you go. Hope you're ok. Hope a break will help you Flowers

Laska5772 · 07/08/2018 09:38

Iced Tea I think its still in 'experimental' stage .but
I used two bags to a pot ( which I think is about a liter.and left it until it was cold. However on chilling it probably could have
been a bit stronger flavour . It could be that my bags were a bit old.. or maybe more lemon and other bits.. I t was nice thoygh and yes I drank it in a wine glass so it felt like a proper drink !!
Scales showed 3lb of that overnight 4lb gain had gone this morning (phew) .chugging water again today .( thats what I didnt do on sunday)

Laska5772 · 07/08/2018 09:42

Stuntnun ill try the cold water method as well then. But going tobuy new ginger T bags. Mine have been open in cupboard for ages they may be just too old .

Rshard · 07/08/2018 15:19

Hope to see you around again in a few weeks qumquat, take care

BIWI · 07/08/2018 22:00

@qumquat I'm so sorry that you're struggling. Don't go away - just keep reading the thread, and remember that we're all here for you.

Hi everyone,
Some you may remember me from the boot camp thread . I've had over a month off and feel pretty grim and put on half a stone so I'm back to doing HFLC. At its best, I love the feeling of not being starving if I miss a meal. I need the accountability of posting, so I'm back.

@StuntNun that tea sounds great.

Starting at 74.5kg,
Goal is 68kg.

Onwards and downwards.

Mimosa1 · 08/08/2018 09:49

@qumquat I NEVER seem to be able to slip up and get back on the wagon the next day. Usually triggers several weeks off at least. I don't have any words of wisdom :( but can say the knowledge from others on here has been invaluable in the past.

Want to treat this as day 1 with me?

oldbirdy · 08/08/2018 10:01

Morning all
Been staying at my Mum's. She is a cardiac patient (heart attack 10 years ago, now in good health) and she was very very anxious about me pouring cream on things and eating cheese. I struggled to explain it all to her, she is so paranoid about eating any fat at all but binges on "low fat" biscuits and chocolate and puts 2 sugars in her tea....

I have had a bad couple of weeks - 2 birthdays and an anniversary so cake has been in the house. I have found cake to be my Achilles heel; I can resist anything else but not a slice of cake if it's sitting in my kitchen for days. Also being on "holiday" I have been drinking wine most evenings. I need to get it under control. I daren't weigh myself. I know this is pathetic self sabotage.

I am still eating LCHF for my meals and having no problems with that. Plus all cakes are finally finished and no more will pass over my threshold until child's birthday in October.

I can't believe I am 12 weeks in. I want to KOKO with this and WILL get that creeping wine habit knocked in to touch.

You have all reminded me about teabags in iced water that I was doing a few weeks ago, the ginger tea sounds lovely I will try that!
Koko everyone!

Rayna37 · 08/08/2018 11:01

Just caught up with the thread, not been too strict despite all my vows about a good August. In the middle of lots of guests staying but ok on food, still drinking too much, bit of bread I don't need. I'm definitely able to get back on it though, not an emotional eater and no ill effects other than weight gain/stagnation.

I've made curries for two sets of visitors and served everyone frozen cauliflower rice which has gone down really well, all clean plates, so I'd encourage you all to be confident in treating this WoE as standard and not feeling you have to offer "normal" options.

oldbirdy this year I've realised cake is hugely my downfall too, which I hadn't been conscious of.

ajandjjmum · 08/08/2018 11:10

I love cake too - on a 'bad day' (normally pre-planned like meeting an old friend for afternoon tea on Saturday!) I accept that it will show in my weight, but I am able to limit it to that one day. Sort of give myself permission to enjoy that one day.

Just one lb over my lowest weight at the moment (for this bootcamp), but I am being very strict this week.

Rayna37 · 08/08/2018 11:13

Laska have you tried the buggy yet? I've been using mine since April. I try to do a long run with it once a week and another run if I can, then DH runs with it on the weekend so we can both do parkrun and I get to have a faster session. It is a bit harder and I stick to places like towpaths and cycle ways which are traffic free, flat and decent tarmac etc. Here's a picture from yesterday's 9 miler! The tray is handy for "Plogging"; litter picking while jogging.

Hi mimosa, welcome back!

ilovecherries · 08/08/2018 15:03

mimosa. Smile. Onwards and downwards.

ilovecherries · 09/08/2018 09:06

Another half pound off today. I finally seem to be showing some shift again. Don’t care if it’s glacially slow, just want it to happen! So I am 155.5. Not going to give myself grief about seeing the 10s before I go on holiday. If it happens it happens but it suddenly does feel achievable again after my long time in stall-wilderness. And funny, I am doing NOTHING different, either before during or after my 3 month stick.
