Low Carb Bootcamp - our final weigh-in!

BIWI · 19/03/2018 07:19

Good morning!

Well, we've finally reached the end. Here's the spreadsheet, for the last time

It feels to me like it's been a really good Bootcamp, with lots of NSVs as well as success on the scales. Hopefully today sees another good reading on the scales too!

As I've said on previous threads, just because we've reached the end of this Bootcamp, it doesn't mean that we all just melt away - I'll keep this chat thread going and when it fills up, I'll start another general chat one, so there's always someone here for help and support as well as ongoing low carb stuff.

I'll probably put the big stick back in its cupboard for a while though Grin

Yep, another one here spending a fortune on bras ShockI've gone from a 36/38DD to a 32F.2 bras and a sports bra set me back £100. They do feel a heap better though

Rshard · 06/04/2018 13:33

I found a properly fitting bra also made my clothes look nicer, they somehow fitted better, looked a bit sleeker

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2018 14:02

Happy birthday pretty bird and wow to cherries, that's a huge difference in waist etc measurements!

BlackMozart · 06/04/2018 19:54

I’ve got the itchy skin thing and it’s horrible. Palms of both hands is the worst. Left wrist, under left arm too, in ears, eyelids, but nothing on legs, tummy, rest of face. Still need to check it out with the doc because I wondered if it was peri menopause related but it is the thing that gets me down the most. My hands are almost unbearable and no cream seems to work. I feel like some very scaly animal. 😢

BlackMozart · 06/04/2018 22:25

Hope you had a lovely birthday prettybird 💐

BerylStreep · 06/04/2018 23:32

Happy birthday PrettyBird! It's mine on Monday.

I'm really struggling with the fuck its this week. Not sure how to get back on track.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/04/2018 06:34

Happy Birthday for yesterday, Pretty!

Beryl, I wish I could offer some useful advice, but the only thing that helps me is extremely childish. I give myself an imaginary pat on the head, and a "there, there, poor you, yes you really want [ x ] and you can't have it, it's terrible I know, poor honey, you never get to have anything you want do you"... and by the time I've finished half comforting/half patronising myself, I've usually thought of something I should be doing.

(There's probably some technical psychological term for pretending you're a different person (toddler) and projecting your cravings onto that person to distance yourself from them - but I don't know what it is Grin)

Twoo · 07/04/2018 06:45

Athel’ have you looked into the FODMAP diet? It’s scientifically backed. It’s a way of eating, when certain sugars/carbs in some foods cause you ibs type symptoms. I have very severe bloating sometimes (could be my spine injury or it could be diet related). I’m seeing a FODMAP trained dietician in several weeks so will know more then. There is quite a bit on the web too.

Grimbles · 07/04/2018 08:26

I'm not sure if I should mention this here, but an acquaintance of mine who has been lchf for a while has told me that if you cook, allow to cool, and then reheat pasta or spuds it actually changes the composition of the carbs in the food and how your body reacts to it. Apparently it doesn't convert it into as much glucose (but still enough to be too much for most of us at the moment). Is this true?!??

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2018 08:31

Morning all.

Grimbles I can't imagine it to be true, I'm sorry. It still has to be something and it's not going to magically turn into a protein or whatever becayse it's been reheated. I can't imagine why your body would treat something that's been reheated differently. Fundamentally it's still a carb,,,,I wouldn't chance it. It's just going to take you down a windy road back to carbsville.😔

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/04/2018 08:51

Haven't looked at FODMAP yet - but will have a google over the weekend, Twoo. My barrel of a stomach has subsided hugely, which is a relief.

Grimbles, I read something similar here: the potato question but it doesn't sound like enough of a drop in digestible carbs to be of any use.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheT1meG0es · 07/04/2018 09:22

Just thought I'd drop by to see how you all got on in the end, as I dropped out half way through. It's good reading all your updates.

I rebounded in quite a big way after dropping out and put 3lb back on, but have started to moderate my eating again and 1.5lb is back off. I've stuck to some of my LC habits which is good (almond milk in tea, Lidl protein rolls, less carby food all round) but I have to say it has been a huge relief to wave goodbye to the high fat and eat plain steamed veg and lean meat again. So I just wanted to say good luck to you all as you move forward from the end of this bootcamp.

Rayna37 · 07/04/2018 09:52

Did a buggy run yesterday (hard, windy) and parkrun this morning (wet) and feeling good! Yesterday:
B: scrambled eggs
L: kalettes, Brussels, bacon, leek, all sautéed in butter with some cheese
D: chicken breast with leftover aubergine stew and courgette fritters. Fantastic. But...
I ate the Cadburys. Happy with the sacrifice and I'm definitely a moderator not an abstainer once I get to goal. Weird aftertaste though, I think the recipe must contain new even more artificial crap, so will largely stick to my nice 85%+ stuff if I eat chocolate at all.

Rshard · 07/04/2018 10:48

Nice to see you who.

Excellent running rayna! I’m getting out a bit more and really enjoying it. I’ve done parkrun two weeks running which is unheard of! Tried a new one this morning and it was a lovely course

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2018 10:49

God I'm so annoyed, as you may know. I don't weigh my self, I use my clothes as a gauge.

Good news. Waist down I'm definitely back to normal. Even my work trousers i was struggling with fit me again. Waist up, nope, not happening, everything is still tight over my boobs, and I'm still bigger round my rib cage.

I think I need to rethink my exercise regime, right now I do 30 mins cardio a day, followed by a weights routine for either upper body, abs, or lower body. The cardio clearly works my lower body the most, hence why that area has reduced more now, so I must need to do more on my core and upper body. Sigh.

On other news, Off to pub tonight for dinner as daughter back to uni tomorrow, will have a steak and salad, but will have some wine...😳

Rshard · 07/04/2018 11:02

Have you tried yoga bluntness, for you core? I do yoga by Adrienne on you tube, loads of option, for free

TerfsUp · 07/04/2018 11:31

Morning, all.

Happy birthday, prettybird.

Nice to see you again, Whoknows.

Has anyone seen Scabbersley lately?

Athelstane, thought-provoking post.

Good for you, Rayna, despite the rotten weather!

Sorry if there was anyone I overlooked!

KOKO, all.

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2018 11:35

Never been able to get into yoga rshard, 😔😔😔

StuntNun · 07/04/2018 11:37

Grimbles when you cook, cool, and reheat potatoes or rice then some of the starch is converted to resistant starch. It doesn't appreciably decrease the carbs but resistant starch is good for your gut microbiome since it is a prebiotic.

Rshard · 07/04/2018 12:17

Ah that’s a shame bluntness, it’s really helped my core.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/04/2018 12:25

Hello Who! And well done for staying more or less level.

Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain. God I'm desperate to see some green leaves back on the trees. Unlike Rayna's extraordinary ability to get out in the wet, I'm planning on hitting the sofa with an Audrey Hepburn film, and finishing off the blanket I'm making.

45, going on 80. Blush

Still, my friend challenged me to some exercise tests her personal trainer gave her (more than 10 squats in 10 seconds, for example, or getting up from the floor without using knees or arms), and it turns out I'm fabulously fit for any age, let alone mine. All that gardening. You never see a gardener with a saggy arse. So that's an NSV.

Rshard · 07/04/2018 12:42

There are a few low carb recipes in the Times today, I’ve not had a close look but a couple look a bit too high carb for us

EeeSheWasThin · 07/04/2018 13:31

Bluntness what about hula hooping? I could never do it as a child but I bought a really heavy exercise one from Argos and it’s easy to keep it up. (Even easier to leave it lying in the utility room...😉)

EeeSheWasThin · 07/04/2018 13:34

We got a new coffee machine this week and I thought I’d “treat” myself to a latte as have been having creamy coffee. Funny how your taste changes, it was far too weak after my jaw achingly strong espresso with a bit of water and cream. So no more longingly thinking of lattes!

Bluntness100 · 08/04/2018 07:57

Morning all.

Well I've got a bit of a hangover. Sigh. Stayed low carb food wise , but far too many calories. We shared a baked Camembert to start between the three of us, husbands idea, then I had steak and a salad. However I also had white wine which wasn't so good.

Eee, yes hula hooping might be worth considering. It would be fun if nothing else.😁
