Week 4 – Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 22:20

Welcome to the week 4 thread of Bootcamp. I enjoyed the power of wielding BIWI’s big stick last week so much that I am staying on for another week. Grin Normal service will be returning next week.

So week three was great – as well as lots of impressive scale victories, there were loads of NSVs – bras moved to the next hook, colleagues commenting favourably, feeling as if there is more energy, along with err, some less orthodox NSVs such as smaller earlobes and re-emerging pubes. Grin

The thing that has really struck me is the number of posters who have lost significant weight over the last year, and are sticking with it and still seeing progress. That’s a fantastic inspiration to us all, and really shows how this WOE works long-term.

There are a number of posters who have committed to doing dry February (along with a few who are kicking a diet coke habit). This starts on Thursday, but it goes without saying that this is not an excuse to put as much away as possible before that! note to self

Thanks to BIWI who has been working hard on creating the Bootcamp recipe threads. There are loads of great ideas there to avoid menu boredom.

So KOKO, and good luck for the weigh in, but also remember the scales are only one indicator of progress. Here is the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

Another abstainer. I wish I could do moderation but it's all or nothing for me.

Hunh, StuntNun. I've just noticed that my nose is less congested now that I am eating less dairy.

blackteaplease · 01/02/2018 16:36

Yes, I realised over Christmas that I'm not very good with moderation, especially if the choice is not very lchf. It quickly leads to a mental shift and carby twatness.

GailLondon · 01/02/2018 16:38

Is diet tonic water OK?

I'm not doing dry January / February but have cut out drinking during the week. I've bought a bottle of Seedlip which is a non-alcoholic 'gin' - its delicious with tonic and a slice of lemon!

The ingredients of Seedlip and the diet tonic looked ok to me so was hoping to drink this when I fancy something more exotic than fizzy water!

I love seedlip Gayle! Saved me many a time over the festive season when everyone else was ploughing into the alcohol. I have half diet tonic and half soda so it's not too sweet. I've only tried the spice one, want to get the garden one too but it's a bit of a treat at that price!

StuntNun · 01/02/2018 17:48

Schrodingers one of my colleagues is a practicing Nutritional Therapist and she reckons that at least 90% of the people she sees would benefit from cutting dairy and/or wheat. It's a much bigger problem than people realise because most sufferers have chronic low level symptoms that seem to be idiopathic (i.e. without a medical cause). I was offered a nasal resection for my chronic perennial rhinitis when all I needed to do was stop drinking milk. That wasn't even suggested, I found out by accident when I had to cut out dairy entirely while breastfeeding my youngest child who is allergic to cows milk protein.

Alwaysinmyheart · 01/02/2018 18:14

StuntNun could you tell me what your symptoms were re dairy? I only ask because I seem to be sniffing all the time and it seems to get worse when Ive eaten dairy!

Dont know how I could do this WOE without dairy tho...

headoutofthesand · 01/02/2018 18:30

Carby twatdom alert ... I'm tired & grumpy, the DC are tetchy, I've had about 6 spoons of cream and then just had two minstrels. I now feel sick. The minstrels are particularly annoying as I made 3 dozen fairy cakes last night & ate not a jot and now two tetchy kids have pushed me over the edge. The rest of the packet are in the bin & buried so I can't go & get any more.

ScreamingValenta · 01/02/2018 18:34

Just popping on to share a NSV after all my moaning about being at a plateau earlier this week. I managed today to fit into a size 8 skirt! Admittedly it was a White Stuff skirt, with very generous sizing Grin but it cheered me up a lot. KOKO and hoping for a loss next week, even if only .5lb.

BerylStreep · 01/02/2018 18:47

GailLondon the seedlip looks really interesting. I might give it a try during the weekends of my Febdryary.

headsoutofthesand well done for not eating the rest of the packet 🙂
Maybe once the kids are in bed you can do something nice for yourself?

Interesting thoughts on abstained vs moderator. I am in reflective mood too. I realised last night that although this woe makes me feel much much better I am only just starting to consciously think about it becoming a way of life too. I think I still have a mindset that after I lose the weight I can go back to eating some of the things I like but ‘in moderation’ but I don’t do moderation very well. By contrast when I did 5 1/2 months of a certain vlcd back in 2012 I was a brilliant abstainer. With no choice but what 4 packets to choose I never veered from the path once and lost 5 stone. It was like my mindset couldn’t keep up with my weight loss and although I kept a lot of the weight off for over a year at the first big emotional upheaval I couldn’t hold it together and just went back to all my old bad habits.

So this time I still have plenty of time to work on this in a much more aware way. I want to be a moderator but if I’m going to do that I am going to have to change my habits of a lifetime. Feeling ok about it though 🙂

Sorry about the long post.

Checking in with meals today:

B coffee with cream
L fried courgetti with ham and cheese
S couple of macadamia
D cauliflower rice and chicken with some peri peri sauce and Mayo.

Only a litre and half of water so far but had 2 mugs of hot water earlier and a black coffee.

Going well here and had my food delivery so the fridge is nice and full. Has anyone used the bare naked noodles? I got some to try with either a stir fry or bolognese and wondered if they were nice.

I haven't had any diet coke since starting and was thinking about having one tonight with some almonds to snack on. But then I thought that could be one of the reasons I feel generally so much healthier. I was a 2 cans a day girl before this.

BlackMozart · 01/02/2018 18:59

gail and beryl I agree that seedlip looks interesting. The bottles are beautiful. Do the supermarkets sell,it or do I need to buy it through the seedlip site? My DB is a gin lover but also is trying to lose a bit of weight so he might enjoy it too.

Alwaysinmyheart · 01/02/2018 19:07

Quick question:

My friend has invited me to a cocktail evening with canapés she's going to be making next week. I've told her how much weight I've lost and she doesn't want to derail my diet so she's asked me to send her a list of things I can eat. I've offered to bring things but she's said no, she doesn't want to do that, so any ideas of suggestions I can give her?

BlackMozart · 01/02/2018 19:16

Devilled eggs - very retro
Small lettuce leaves with curried chicken mayo in side
Smoked salmon, cream cheese, mock caviar ( a blini without the blini)
Rounds of cucumber topped with the above
Lettuce leaves with guacamole

YoLoHogwomanay · 01/02/2018 19:19

blackmozart this is why BC is so brilliant. It's not just the food. Its group therapy!! We all have to learn how we got fat in the first place or we will just end up fat again in the future. This is the place for curing a lifetime of yoyo dieting, binge eating, mild eating disorders, and bad food relationships.

We can all embrace happy healthy bodies for the future with this WOE. and the support here is amazing.

BumbleBeef30 · 01/02/2018 19:36

B nothing (not intended, but I seemed to be constantly in rush so no time to eat)
L salmon
D bacon in spicy tomato sauce, stir fry veg
W quite a lot, but I still feel thirsty

Rshard · 01/02/2018 19:43

Checking in today’s food
B - scrambled eggs half avo
L - salad cheese mayo half avo
D - sausage casserole

2l water, dh has bought me a lovely new bottle

BlackMozart · 01/02/2018 19:45

Yolo* spot on. There is so much help and support here and especially from those that have been doing this for a long time. That’s the thing that gives me hope. I feel confident that eventually I will get there however long it takes.

Plantlover · 01/02/2018 19:50

Rshard

Can you tell me more or take a picture of your bottle?

I reuse plastic ones.....

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 01/02/2018 19:55

B: 2 sausages and scrambled eggs with butter
L: stir fried veg and sesame oil
D: peanut chicken curry and caul rice
S: sausage, bit of cheese
Sadly my favourite frozen garlic and ginger is 5 and 6 g carbs per 20g! Ok if a curry for a few people, not great if putting on a stir fry just for me!

Rshard · 01/02/2018 19:57

That’s what I’ve been doing plantlover! Here it is, it’s a camelback one from wiggle I think. Dd has a grey one

Week 4 – Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

Re: stalling / not losing at all - this link resonated with me, although it's just an expanded version of what people have already said on this thread: I think I had fallen into habits of eating rubbish, then not eating 'properly' later to try and compensate.

I really like the idea that I'm being rebuilt from the inside, like Wolverine or something Grin. It explains why my skin is looking better, my scars are fading, my teeth seem to be strengthening, and no doubt my bones are womaning up as well. Put this way, I'm quite happy for this to happen first and for weight loss to trail along in its wake.

It also makes me realise this had probably better be a WOE for good - this isn't just about the size of my arse, it's about not falling over and breaking a hip before I'm 65, or having my teeth rot before I'm 50.

BrassicaBabe · 01/02/2018 20:36

Gherkins at 5.7g carb per 100g...these are ok as a snack?

Alwaysinmyheart · 01/02/2018 20:43

Yes, there are virtually no 'empty calories ' on this WOE. Even butter and cream is nutritious, as opposed to rice, pasta, baked goods, sugar etc.

Also when I did this diet before I noticed that I actually felt happier! I get a lovely warm feeling after eating a high fat meal, compared to that bloated, sluggish feeling you get after eating lots of carbs...
