Week 4 – Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 22:20

Welcome to the week 4 thread of Bootcamp. I enjoyed the power of wielding BIWI’s big stick last week so much that I am staying on for another week. Grin Normal service will be returning next week.

So week three was great – as well as lots of impressive scale victories, there were loads of NSVs – bras moved to the next hook, colleagues commenting favourably, feeling as if there is more energy, along with err, some less orthodox NSVs such as smaller earlobes and re-emerging pubes. Grin

The thing that has really struck me is the number of posters who have lost significant weight over the last year, and are sticking with it and still seeing progress. That’s a fantastic inspiration to us all, and really shows how this WOE works long-term.

There are a number of posters who have committed to doing dry February (along with a few who are kicking a diet coke habit). This starts on Thursday, but it goes without saying that this is not an excuse to put as much away as possible before that! note to self

Thanks to BIWI who has been working hard on creating the Bootcamp recipe threads. There are loads of great ideas there to avoid menu boredom.

So KOKO, and good luck for the weigh in, but also remember the scales are only one indicator of progress. Here is the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

does a victory lap around my previous fat clothes

Brilliant...I’m in leggings for WFH at the moment as I can fasten my jeans but can’t sit in them for long.

Looking forward to my victory lap and consigning the leggings to wearing for exercise. may have to ration the cream

EeeSheWasThin · 31/01/2018 20:10

Shag hope your daughter is ok? It’s such a shock when you fall off. (Bloody hurts too when you’re my age, kids bounce a bit more.)

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2018 20:53

YoLo, that really resonates with me. If I can be better at this, I can be better at other things.

Shag, that's worrying isn't it. My nephew has just started and suddenly all I can see is hooves.

You're right, in actual history it was Ethelred. But in Walter Scott's 'Ivanhoe', the distant heir to Ethelred is called Athelstane, and because he's fat, lazy and dim, he's never quite as energetic in overthrowing the Normans as his followers would wish him to be. So they nicknamed him 'Athelstane the Unready'. Give me a few more months and I'll be 'AthelstaneTheThoroughlySorted'.

BerylStreep · 31/01/2018 20:55

Hello all, glad everyone is feeling more positive now. I love the thought of Athelstan wandering around clutching her buttock Grin

I had a delicious sort of moussaka sort of ratatouille tonight. I couldn't be bothered with all the slicing and frying of aubergines, so I diced them and roasted them in the oven with loads of olive oil. Made a sauce with lamb mince, shallots, courgette and tomato purée, added some oregano and cinnamon, then piled it all together in a bowl topped with grated mozzarella. It was delicious.

So who is geared up for dry Feb starting tomorrow?

jings glad to hear your DH is improving. shag I hope your daughter is ok and won’t be put off. I used to fall off all the time as a child and I’m not sure as I think back how my poor mother coped ! Actually she used to do a brief check to see if I was actually injured and if not ordered me straight back on!

Loving the energy and humour on here tonight !!

I have a slightly dubious NSV to report in that I have been able to take my wedding ring off for the first time in years. Cue my DH’s raised eyebrow as I rather airily suggested I am leaving it off for a bit as it has been so tight I have an indentation that needs to recover. Wink

Hi all

I've not had a great day food wise. Started well with Greek yoghurt for breakfast but then meetings overran so managed to quickly eat more Greek yoghurt then didn't eat my lunch until 4.30 so just picked at chicken and salad with a bit of cheese. Have been to the gym but only managed 4k. I've had a small omelette for dinner.

But, I'm really bloated today, quite uncomfortable :( tmi but I have a lot of gas (burping) and my stomach is swollen. Normally I get this triggered by carbs but other than the carbs in the Greek yoghurt I've had none today.

What do you think?

BlackMozart · 31/01/2018 21:10

Ah yes...Drybruary or whatever we said we’d call it.
I am ready. Places hand on heart, raises chin, firms jaw and stands up straight as if ready for battle...

BIWI · 31/01/2018 21:11

If you're bloated, how much water have you been drinking? It's often a sign that you need to drink more.

Do you think you might have a problem with dairy? Given that you've had yoghurt and cheese and not much else today?

BlackMozart · 31/01/2018 21:12

Sorry venus not ignoring you but posts crossed. Not sure why that would be happening.

BIWI · 31/01/2018 21:12

I'm ready for Dry February. I had 2 G&Ts last night - but must have made them fearsomely strong as I felt like shit this morning. So no intention of drinking tonight - therefore adding an extra day to Dry Feb Grin

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 21:20

I've had 4 pints of water at work, plus 2 glasses with breakfast and 3/4 500ml bottle at the gym tonight. Do I need more?

Just had a cup of tea too - first one today

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 21:21

My glasses are about 300ml. We have a water machine at work so I've got a pint glass that I top up.

BerylStreep · 31/01/2018 21:25

This is a very good discussion from the Whole30 about the problem of investing our self worth in a number on the scales. Well worth a read.

I'm Drybruary'ing. Right behind Beryl, BlackMozart and BIWI keeping my patting hands strictly to myself promise

Venus, along with a newly found reaction to cheese and yoghurt, I started to find eggs were making me nauseous/gassy as well (hence the plain meat/fish/green veg diet I'm now on). I'm sure I read somewhere that cleaning up your diet actually brings some sensitivities to the fore, though I don't know how you'd go about testing that, other than dropping them for a few days. Perhaps Stuntnun could help out with the theory...?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2018 21:48

Beryl, that link is spot on, rings very true, and is very sensible. Do you have another link that will help me feel sensible?

Scabbersley · 31/01/2018 21:49

I've done dry January and there is no way I'm doing dry February! Can't wait for tomorrow!

My dinner changed as I was stuck in the car until 9pm. Picked up a pack of smoked salmon and cream cheese canapés from Sainsbury's (3.6 carbs per 100g, they weighed 120g). Plus a bottle of fizzy water. Then one of those small bars of green and blacks.

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 21:51

@AthelstaneTheUnready thank you. What do you eat for breakfast?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2018 21:55

Venus, I often just have black coffee and skip breakfast. But if I am hungry in the morning I'll have some bacon, or butter over a small bowl of broccoli or sprouts in the microwave for 4 minutes. That's about it. I have found that the smaller my choices are though, the less I agonise about what to have - I'm fortunate enough to quite like eating the same old same old every day.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2018 21:57

Oh, just re-read and I'm not sure but it sounds like you might eat breakfast at the office - in which case I take in cold lumps/slices of whatever meat I had the night before and just have that.

Is that very wrong?

BumbleBeef30 · 31/01/2018 22:03

B bacon and mushrooms
L sardines
S ham
2nd S bits of the pork curry I was cooking
D salmon and roasted pepper, courgette and mushroom

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 22:04

No, I try and eat at home. I need to be organised because I'm slow at getting ready in the morning. I didn't used to eat breakfast but since starting this I am hungry when I wake up so need something. Just a bit unsure of what to eat first thing if I need to avoid yoghurt and cheese.

I haven't lost any weight so far either. I'll keep going though

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 22:06

And avoid too many eggs. I'm not sure I can stomach them every day

BIWI · 31/01/2018 22:07

@VenusStarr - you're not on the spreadsheet so I don't know how much you weigh - but the amount you drink is determined by your weight - as is pointed out on Bootcamp rules!!!

Here's the quote from the rules:

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from www.low-carbdiet.co.uk/. Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:
Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

VenusStarr · 31/01/2018 22:15

Thanks BIWI - I'm 149lbs so should be having 2.5, think I've had about 3 today.

I couldn't add myself to the spreadsheet (am on my phone)

blackteaplease · 01/02/2018 05:14

I'm here for dry Feb. Although I only drink on weekends in term time. You've picked a nice short month to get through BIWI!
We have a household full of sick people and also our cm is sick so I am juggling poorly kids and school drop offs whilst pretending to work and worrying how many hours I'm going to have to work at the weekend to balance my timesheet. I have been eating too much snacky food on the go this week.
