Week 4 – Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 22:20

Welcome to the week 4 thread of Bootcamp. I enjoyed the power of wielding BIWI’s big stick last week so much that I am staying on for another week. Grin Normal service will be returning next week.

So week three was great – as well as lots of impressive scale victories, there were loads of NSVs – bras moved to the next hook, colleagues commenting favourably, feeling as if there is more energy, along with err, some less orthodox NSVs such as smaller earlobes and re-emerging pubes. Grin

The thing that has really struck me is the number of posters who have lost significant weight over the last year, and are sticking with it and still seeing progress. That’s a fantastic inspiration to us all, and really shows how this WOE works long-term.

There are a number of posters who have committed to doing dry February (along with a few who are kicking a diet coke habit). This starts on Thursday, but it goes without saying that this is not an excuse to put as much away as possible before that! note to self

Thanks to BIWI who has been working hard on creating the Bootcamp recipe threads. There are loads of great ideas there to avoid menu boredom.

So KOKO, and good luck for the weigh in, but also remember the scales are only one indicator of progress. Here is the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

@VenusStarr try the yoghurt with cinnamon mixed in if it's a bit bland. After the first two weeks you can add a few berries to it as well.

I know how you feel about the fat. It's very strange at first and even a few weeks in i find certain things a bit rich but you do adjust! Pork scratchings are a good snack and also sugar free jelly. I make batches up in small portions to keep in the fridge and add a dollop of cream.

StubbleTurnips · 30/01/2018 22:20

Is there a boot camp thread for new starters or do I interrupt the party here? BlushConfused

prettybird · 30/01/2018 22:21

Just be careful of your teeth with the pork scratchings Wink

BlackMozart · 30/01/2018 22:21

Ok that’s working now! I am going to try it at some point without any sugar or sweetener but maybe half the quantity in case it’s horrid!

orkneyfudge · 30/01/2018 22:24

Is this the recipe @BlackMozart?

SayrraT · 30/01/2018 22:24

thunder just a note that sugar free jelly contains artificial sweeteners which we also avoid on BC. Possibly ok as a vet occasional thing after the first 2 weeks.

venus 11% carbs might be ok but ALL of your carbs should be from green veg. How about eggs for breakfast?

stubble just join in, if you look at the OP there is a link to the spreadsheet where you'll find the rules (tabs at bottom) plus lots of other info.

SayrraT · 30/01/2018 22:26

You didn't mention the cheese above so that's why pretty and I probably both mentioned fat as it didn't look like you'd had any.

Definitely try yog again (or something else) and stay away from the oatmeal!

BIWI · 30/01/2018 22:28

Welcome @StubbleTurnips!

Just jump in. Look at the Bootcamp rules - linked in the OP's link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness.

BlackMozart · 30/01/2018 22:35

Yes orkney that’s the one 🙂

BlackMozart · 30/01/2018 22:37

venus the other thing that is nice in yoghurt is vanilla powder. It is expensive but you only need a really small amount like a couple of pinches and it brings sweetness. Waitrose stock it with the vanilla extract and other flavourings but maybe other supermarkets too.

BerylStreep · 30/01/2018 22:53

Welcome Stubbles.

Aargh fallen behind again! Just logging todays food

B - greek yoghurt, rhubarb, few almonds
L - cheese, salad, flax crackers
D - chicken and veg soup, flax bread and butter
S - 2 tsp peanut butter, 2 squares dark chocolate
3 coffees, 2 litres water, 3 teas with almond milk

YoLoHogwomanay · 30/01/2018 23:12

ilove

There was a poor woman who shattered a tooth on a pork scratching on the May bootcamp. She disappeared and never came back. Don't let that be you, Scabbers! I could never stomach pork scratching anyway, and her experience put me right off.

I thought you were penning a limerick there!

prettybird can you come over and cook me a dinner party please? Wink your menu sounds amazing. Have you ever thought of doing Come Dine With Me?

scabbers sorry to hear about the tooth.

feekerry you can buy plain sausages and bacon in Greggs without the roll. Not especially low carb but much better than having the bread!

I take a small tupperware pot of cream when I'm out and add it to black coffee/Americano because it's easier and better than having the milky coffee on offer. But if it's a big tax dodging chain then there are loads of options for low carb non dairy milk. I saw oat, coconut and almond in Stealbucks today. It's sweetened, mind. Costa do coconut milk and both do pouring cream but don't always have it in I find.

MumOfAPickle · 30/01/2018 23:14

Today's food:
B: bacon and sausages at work (most likely not low carb enough sausages and I'm annoyed with myself that I haven't been moe organised this week)
L: broccoli, mushroom & chicken bake
D: steak with spinach, onions & peppers
S: pork scratchings, pepperami

Weighed in this morning and 1lb on which is to be expected after the booze at the weekend

JingsMahBucket · 30/01/2018 23:41

Hi folks. I've had an interesting afternoon/evening/night. I’ve just returned from being in the emergency room with OH for 8 hours when they finally admitted him for an overnight stay. He’s been ill for the past three weeks and after much pushing by me was given a referral to the ER by my GP to check for thrombosis in his leg. Turns out it’s in his lungs aka pulmonary embolism. I’m returning tomorrow afternoon to sit with him after they run more tests in the morning.

My eating was pretty okay for today. Had a bit of pita with my late lunch before heading to the hospital then had a tangerine, peanuts, and Edam cheese as snacks while there.

On the way home just now I bought two small packs of crisps out of faint desire but I don’t think I even really want them. I’m just so tired and ready for bed. Worried about OH but I know he’ll be fine.

BerylStreep · 30/01/2018 23:49

Jings I really hope your DH is ok. At least he is in hospital and being treated. Thanks

JingsMahBucket · 30/01/2018 23:52

Thank you @BerylStreep.

blackteaplease · 31/01/2018 05:48

Gosh Jings I hope your husband gets better soon, we are all here if you need any support.

Scabbers can't believe you've cracked a tooth! I hope it doesn't hurt and can be fixed quickly.

I need the stick, in a moment of weakness I was a carby twat yesterday. Onward and upwards, today will be a good day.

LeapinLizards · 31/01/2018 06:36

This is not going well for me. I am putting on weight!

I am wondering if this WOE is not suitable for me on account of being veggie. I have stuck to it religiously (aside from a slip-up at the end of the first 2 weeks of BC) and haven't even gone to BC lite. And yet still I'm gaining.

I read the link that Nekobus posted (thank you!) and wonder if i'm having too much fat. Or perhaps too much dairy (though, I have cut down on cheese). But then on other occasions i see people being advised to eat more fat so think it must be ok.

Are there any other vegetarians in here that are doing it successfully?I'm at the point of throwing in the towel.

BIWI · 31/01/2018 06:43

@JingsMahBucket I'm really sorry to hear about your DH. He's in the right place, though, so hopefully he'll be treated/will recover quickly.

@vintagebella - I know it's Bootcamp Light now, but there's a lot of higher carb stuff in your menu. Just watch out that you're not doing that at every meal

@LeapinLizards - that's really annoying! Can you list out for us what you've been eating and drinking over the last few days, and see if we can spot anything?

LeapinLizards · 31/01/2018 07:05

Thanks biwi. And jings, I'm also sorry to hear about your husband. Hope he recovers quickly.

Yesterday
B: 2 mugs coffee with almond milk (unsweetened)
L: quorn pieces mixed with leek and mayo, a sprinkle of seeds
S: a handful of salted peanuts
D: some kale crisps (I was experimenting with them), 3 soya sausages (package tells me that 2 sausages contain 4.1g carb) and a dollop of neeps with lots of butter.
2.5l water

Monday
B: 2 -3 mugs coffee with double cream
L: homemade soup – spinach, leek, cream (it was thin so probably put too much water in it)
D: cauliflower rice with leek, mushroom, a few shavings of carrot, cream
2l of water plus 2 herbal teas

Sunday
B; cup of tea with splash of milk
L: huge portion of cauliflower cheese (recipe on the vege thread – cheese, cream, cauli and I flung in some leek too)
D: really full from lunch so a wee punnet of olives with little cubes of cheese
2l of water plus 2-3 herbal teas

Saturday
B: 2-3mugs of coffee with double cream
L: mushroom soup – mushrooms, leeks, cream (lots), garlic
D: huge portion of cauli cheese (as Sunday lunch)
S: couple of handfuls of salted peanuts
2.5l of water plus 2 herbal teas

The only thing that i can think of, having read the link that Neko posted, is that i'm having too much cream.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 31/01/2018 07:09

Oh, Jings, that's worrying - I'm sure the hospital have a plan for dealing with it though. Flowers

I'm having a grump this morning because I haven't shifted any weight for 15 days now. I have been perfection itself with the food, and not had any wine at all since a half glass two weeks ago. Nor have I shifted any inches. If I were to be totally honest, I could also list out the NSVs I think I see this week, but I'm in too much of a sulk.

Apologies, this is my first tantrum and I'm sure I'll snap out of it in a bit. Angry

BumbleBeef30 · 31/01/2018 07:11

Yesterday

B sausages and cucumber
L salami
D large plate of mushrooms, ham, eggs and goats cheese
W only two pints (must do better)

LeapinLizards · 31/01/2018 07:17

I forgot that I also had a Nanny state alcohol-free beer on Saturday night - 3.3g carb per bottle.

YoLoHogwomanay · 31/01/2018 07:30

jings how scary for you and DH. Well done for insisting he got medical attention. your instincts were spot on. Flowers hope he has an uneventful and speedy recovery.

I'm noticing a lot of "I've been eating perfectly apart from so why haven't I lost weight?" posts. The clue is in the carb!!! And in the carbs you have forgotten you ate and those you don't want to admit to .

Remember, this WOE is not a simple cal in cal out thing. and weight loss will not be consistent. you will have stalls, and some small gains from time to time even if you don't depart from the rules. If you do play fast and loose with them, then you just cannot expect the same rate of loss. This WOE is not a quick fix. There will be varying weeks so don't get hoodwinked by the initial whooshes ibto thinking you'll get that every week. Just koko and it will work for you in the long term. Have patience and ride out the ups and downs and you'll see it's working.

I had a 6 week stall once but I stuck with it. And jolly glad I did.
