New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

@prettybird thank you very much for all the work you've done over the last couple of weeks. Your DH may be cross, but it's been brilliant Star

And many thanks to @BerylStreep for volunteering for the next couple of weeks!

Grin.

I've been out and DH has made toad in the hole for dinner Shock. Not sure how I'm going to handle that.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 18:10

Rshard - pesky stick blender. I wouldn't dream of trying to rice my cauliflower (haven't tried it yet with celeriac) not in my full processor.

In fact, I've just bought a new Kenwood processor and blender (£90 reduced to £36 with a further £6 off because I was spending more than £30! Shock) to replace my 24 year old one: the spindle had cracked and I had to fight it to get the lid on as the blade wouldn't go down fully and then fight again to get the blade off Hmm) Must get it out its packaging and give it a go!

WhoKn0ws - you'll just have to eat the sausage and leave the batter. And have plenty of veg on the side Grin

@BIWI Here's my food for this week (I keep a diary, so it's pretty accurate) - it's a bit repetitive, but I'm trying to adjust to new reduced insulin injections, so keeping food simple is helping me with that.

Monday - Chicken liver pate (homemade) & celery
3 Heck sausages, celeriac mash, stir-fry sprouts (plenty of butter in both veg)
Tuesday - 3 Heck sausages, mushrooms cooked in butter
Celeriac mash, stir-fry sprouts with Marmite butter (biggish helping of both)
Wednesday - Mushroom omelette
- 2 chicken thighs braised in stock with lettuce, leeks & Bare Naked noodles
Thursday - same as Wednesday
Friday - Mushroom omelette
Chicken thighs with curried cauliflower rice
Today - Cheese omelette

I'm drinking black coffee until lunchtime, then tea without milk and my quota of water.

I also walk the dogs for about an hour a day, two if I go with the group, which is about 3-4 times a week.

I'm not feeling hungry between meals as a rule, but I have had a couple of Baby Bel cheeses along the way. Other than that, no snacks, no cravings.

I did have a rogue two pounds that went on last weekend - God knows how! - and then another one earlier this week, but (touch wood) this morning they've gone, so I'm back to my starting weight. Maybe it's just a normal plateau as I've been low-carbing for a bit now, but if you can think of anything, I'd be grateful (though maybe not quite as grateful as you are to prettybird and BerylStreep Grin)

Apologies for the War & Peace length epic... Blush

TheWayOfTheWorld - Jiminy's wedding was brought forward as her FIL wasn't expected to live much longer. She came back on briefly to tell us about her wedding.

C4 as you say has been around but not posting as prolifically.

Re salopettes and ski wear: I too have one pair of "fat" salopettes and a much nicer "thin" pair Blush Last went skiing 2 years ago and wore the "fat" pair ( and struggled to go up my ski jacket - had to lift it up above my hips Blush) I was a stone heavier than I am now. A few years before that, I'd comfortably worn my "thin" ones Hmm

Next time I can afford to go skiing I will be wearing my skinny ones Smile. I might even splurge on a new pair and have my skinny ones as my back-up pair Grin

At least my ski jacket can now be done up comfortably - I wear it to rugby matches. Standing on the touch line supporting ds can be cold Hmm.

Ahhh prettybird where did you get your bargain food processor from? I use my mum's ancient one - it's about 25yrs old. Could do with updating it!

nekobus · 20/01/2018 18:54

Popping on to say just made this https://mylifecookbook.com/fathead-rosemary-garlic-flatbread-low-carb/ and it's lovely, I've not made fathead dough before, thought I'd start with a small volume recipe so I didn't waste ingredients (like I sometimes do in my hit and miss LC cooking experiments!) I've just got up to about 9am in the thread and all that chat of garlic focaccia I thought I'd share this one.

Off to read the rest of the thread while DH introduces the kids to the original Star Wars movies...Grin

Have managed pretty well today despite being trapped at a family gathering (“trapped” only on a good sense, generally I was happy to be there :) ).

B Sausage macmuffin innards at a service station
L sausages and cabbage
D cold sliced ham and olives eaten in my hotel room
S coffee with milk (force of circumstance), celery

Not the best - there’s a definite lack of fat there. But I avoided Christmas cake and brownies and shortbread, so am pleased.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 20/01/2018 18:57

I did just eat the sausages and veg Pretty, although it pained me as the batter is by far the nicest part of toad in the hole. Oh well.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 20/01/2018 18:57

Well done, whoknows. Sounds like a sterling effort.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 19:10

BlackMozart - just told dh what I'd said to you about the Pinot Grigio. He fully agreed with me - but there again, he hates what he calls IIWs (Insipid Italian Whites) Wink When he was studying to be a Master of Wine (currently on hold), I once bought 12 different IIWs for him and his study buddy to identify Grin

But on a serious note: if we are going to go "off piste" - even in the remaining 8 weeks of Boot Camp when we are allowed alcohol in moderation , but more especially once we have reached our goal and are on Maintenance, we should do so mindfully , for something that is worth going off-piste for, that can't be repeated at another time. Don't make it mindless fall into carby or alcoholic twatdom Shock
