New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

prettybird · 15/01/2018 08:10

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

stuntnun I have ordered myself the Real Meal Revolution from your recommendation, thanks.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 15:06

With Beryl around at the moment, I'll announce that, although I've loved being responsible for Boot Camp the last few weeks and wielding the Big Stick and would have been ok with carrying on, Beryl has kindly volunteered to take over next week. Flowers

I'm therefore going to be reluctantly handing over the Big Stick duties to Beryl from Monday - the start of Week 3 (the one where we often experience a stall).

We are a community of Boot Campers, so we each of us could run Boot Camp. We know what we need to do - we just sometimes need encouragement and the Big Stick to follow this WoE properly. StuntNun I'm sure will continue to supply the technical answers and SayrraT looks after the spreadsheet. I'll still be around too. Plus BIWI has just got back to this time zone so I'm sure will pitch in with her deep knowledge of how to make this WoE work Smile

Beryl can hand back to me after a week or two if she wants - unless there are other volunteers who step forward Smile

Wielding the* Big Stick is strangely exhilarating and Beryl* is going to have to prise my fingers off it Grin but I am sure will do a great job wielding it herself. Have I mentioned how much I've enjoyed having the Big Stick Wink

So my first attempt at cauliflower rice didn’t go to plan. I stupidly caught my index finger in the blade of the blender, resulting in 2 lacerations and two breaks in the tip of the finger. Needless to say I will be buying it next time!

Am all bandages up and in a sling so will struggle to weigh in on Monday but will obviously carry on with boot camp

littleladylawyer · 20/01/2018 16:07

Thank you so much for running up til now prettybird. I'm new to posting on mumsnet but you have made me feel very welcome and I'm glad I took the plunge!

I've just got back from the most delicious pub lunch. Their online menu was different to the actual one, and I had bone-in skin-on chicken breast with celeriac purée, fried kale and oily chorizo sauce. I asked for it without the spicy lentils, which I honestly can't see would have added anything to it anyway! Love this woe- there was a woman on the table next to me who had it with the lentils but no purée or chorizo dressing and asked for it to be cooked without fat. How depressing!

prettybird · 20/01/2018 16:35

Bugger - just did a long post and lost it. Angry

In short: thank you littleladylawyer Smile I've enjoyed it even if dh has made pointed comments about the time spent on my phone Hmm

I'm very Envy about your skiing holiday (and Beryl's and TheWayOfTheWorld's Envy). the Shred is a fantastic preparation with its mix of strength, aerobics and abs. I couldn't do all the exercises in the "full" version first time round but can now do them all, although I do the abs exercises slightly differently based on my 18 years of Pilates classes. Any questions, just ask! Smile

Ouch rshard - dangerous cauliflower who knew? Seriously though I hope that heals quickly for you.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 16:38

Rshard - how on earth did you manage that? I can't get at the blade without the motor being de-activated Confused

Hope it gets better quickly and that you don't have too many more mishaps.

mozart your poor son - glad to hear he's on the mend. Bet he's glad of a bit of TLC though.

Like some of the others, I'm happy to stick to the Rules of BC quite strictly for a bit longer - it suits me, I know where I am with choosing food, and most of all I actually really enjoy it. I enjoy feeling better and though my weight isn't dropping off at the moment, I think it's being redistributed, as has been mentioned. My upper middle section round my ribs is definitely decreased, front and back, and my tum has gone down as well. Still a fair bit to go, of course, but it's noticeable progress. To me, anyway - I'm still in the same stretchy/baggy clothes as I've been wearing for ages, so it's maybe not so obvious to other people just yet.

I walked the dogs on the beach earlier today for a couple of hours and can really notice the difference in how much easier it is now than two or three months ago.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 16:44

I've just realised that with dh having been at corporate hospitality for lunch (and the Warriors, even though it was a dead rubber, and in doing so ensured that Exeter won't get through to the next stage of the European Cup) and ds going out for a meal with a friend, we may end up not having the steaks I'd planned. May end up just having omelette with spinach and maybe yet more buttered brussels Hmm

Never mind: can have them tomorrow night.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 16:46

abbey44 - have you taken any measurements? Don't be like me and regret that I only started taking them 3.5 months after I started Hmm

Itsjanuary · 20/01/2018 16:55

So jealous of everyone saying they aren’t hungry / skipping meals. I seem to be permanently starving / craving something - think I am sticking to plan too so no idea what’s going on - will koko though and hope it gets better

Polkadotties · 20/01/2018 17:00

itsjanuary what are you eating?

abbey44 · 20/01/2018 17:00

prettybird - no, I'm exactly like you Grin Can't find a tape measure, couldn't be arsed to buy one, regret now that I didn't take measurements back in September when I started properly. I think I should probably try and sort one out soonish though.

Itsjanuary · 20/01/2018 17:20

Today

B - black coffee, cold meat (Parma ham & turkey)
L - salad with prawns & grated cheese, olives, peppermint tea, coffee with a splash of cream
S - cold meat with cheese, cucumber with salt, slice of turkey with mayo & clack pepper,

Going to a friends for dinner - no idea what we will have but have said I am doing low carbs.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 20/01/2018 17:30

Sorry for Daily Mail link but this is an article about some blogger in the US who has gone low carb AND low fat:

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5286251/YouTube-star-reveals-diet-helped-lose-50-pounds.html

She's on 1200 cals a day compared to my 1400 (disclaimer, tracking out of interest, not calorie counting) and I can guarantee I am enjoying my WOE more than her's. That Turkey egg white scramble sounds horrid.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 20/01/2018 17:35

Beryl where are you off to? We are going to Italy and taking our DC for the first time (crossing fingers that they like it). Good luck with wielding the big stick Grin

prettybird thank you for taking the time to keep us on the straight and narrow Star

I was also wondering what had happpened to C4 and JiminyCricket who were both prominent on the May boot camp - I've seen C4 a maybe a couple of times on this one, hope she's ok. Did Jiminy's wedding happen?

BIWI · 20/01/2018 17:35

@Itsjanuary:

B - black coffee, cold meat (Parma ham & turkey)
L - salad with prawns & grated cheese, olives, peppermint tea, coffee with a splash of cream
S - cold meat with cheese, cucumber with salt, slice of turkey with mayo & clack pepper,

Your problem is that you're not eating anywhere near enough fat. All the meats you've chosen are low fat, and there's nothing else there to suggest that you're adding much fat to your meals.

This WOE is high fat, not low fat. That's what will keep you feeling satiated.

Rshard · 20/01/2018 17:35

Thanks black and prettybird, it was a stick blender so the blade was accessible. Dh has cleared up the pink cauliflower!

Itsjanuary · 20/01/2018 17:41

Thanks BIWI. Will add more fat - mayo etc are full fat, ate the fat on the ham so thought that was enough.

prettybird · 20/01/2018 17:42

abbey44 - as a minimum, get a piece of string and measure on that.

My first set of measurements had to be done using string and then measuring against a steel household tape measure Blush

Of course, once I'd bought myself a new proper tape measure, I found my old one Hmm

Itsjanuary - your fat looks a bit low. At this stage, I'd say if you're feeling hungry, you should eat something. You could also do with some more veg. Can you make a batch of kale crisps and keep them to snack on?

OP posts:
BIWI · 20/01/2018 17:44

No it's not!!! The ham and the turkey will - I can guarantee - have had very little fat in it. You need to be choosing fattier meats/cuts of meat, and having oily dressings on your salad (and actually more veg - on to which you should be putting lots of butter or more mayo).

If you're hungry by this stage, then you're either not eating enough (which obviously I can't judge from what you've written!) or you're not eating enough fat. From what you've written I'd put money on it being the fat.

BIWI · 20/01/2018 17:44

@abbey44 - can you list out for us what you've been eating and drinking over the last few days? Let's see if we can spot anything obvious that might be getting in the way

BIWI · 20/01/2018 17:51

@prettybird thank you very much for all the work you've done over the last couple of weeks. Your DH may be cross, but it's been brilliant Star

And many thanks to @BerylStreep for volunteering for the next couple of weeks!
