New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

prettybird · 15/01/2018 08:10

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Who knows, I used to donate ages ago before having the children but there was always some reason or other thst I couldn't do it. I've no excuse now do I better do it before I'm too old 😂

ilovecherries · 18/01/2018 21:40

I'm always a bit light headed and sick after donation, and it wasn't better or worse this time without the snack. I certainly wasn't going to eat the biscuits, so I did take some 90% choc that I could eat if I was really unwell and/or they were really insistent, but it was fine. I reckoned that probably no one would realise the difference between 90% choc and a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer so they wouldn't argue with me.

ilovecherries · 18/01/2018 21:41

lis, I didn't really have huge losses, but all the tiny amounts have added up to a LOT!

orkneyfudge · 18/01/2018 21:44

More of a lurker than a poster, but this sounds yummy from Nigel Slater on Drivetime Radio 2 today:-

Creamy kale & celeriac

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 21:44

Haha I love Cherries! It's rich tea at ours. Can't see how one of then is any more beneficial than a bit of cheese!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 18/01/2018 21:47

I went a long time without donating when I had my DCs and then for a few years rarely made it because of work/childcare etc. My DCs are older now so it's a bit easier but the session times here (semi-rural, one session a month) are really not very convenient for me as they are always the same day and in the afternoon I'm at work, evening I'm out ferrying the DCs around.

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 21:59

Yeah its not easy with kids and work and I've already cancelled one appointment because my son was ill. I'm in nw London and they keep emailing each time saying they're now at crisis levels!!! Tomorrows my only free day for another month so will go for it. May just have to put my feet up when i get home!

prettybird · 18/01/2018 22:03

I always wonder how much the blood you donate weighs Wink yes, I know the body quickly replaces it Grin

This is interesting article in Men’s Health about fat and sugar, worth a read!

Kleptronic · 18/01/2018 22:05

Dunno Prettybird but it uses 600 calories to replace the blood cells lost, win win!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 18/01/2018 22:09

When I first started donating (in the 80s) the blood bag was suspended on a spring balance so you could see the weight on the big dial and the nurse sat with you the whole time, none of this automated business you get now.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 18/01/2018 22:13

Only just home from work. Have had today:

B: total, small amt, maybe 4 tsps
L: tuna on leaves with dressing, bit of coleslaw, sprinkle of cheddar and q/× avocado.
S: chicken thigh, half avo, dsp coleslaw and I cd have taken or left it. Not hungry at all.

My work trousers don't feel tight. Let's hope.

All good wishes to all.

prettybird · 18/01/2018 22:14

I think I donated for the first time in 1978 or 79! Shock

I was a lot skinnier then Wink

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 22:35

Haha wow 600 cals I'd have to walk miles to burn that Smile

Yes i did it first in 1988 and remember the nurse sat next to me and having a lie down after on an army type stretcher. Like something from work war II.

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 22:36

*world war II.
Apologies for my awful typing.

BIWI · 18/01/2018 22:49

@lisbalpea the only thing I might suggest is that you cut out dairy for a bit and see if that makes any difference

nekobus · 18/01/2018 22:54

Always I usually make them with some granulated truvia which works fine in with the dry stuff. I've recently bought some liquid stevia to try. I used erythritol once but it went all grainy and then was too 'cooling' ended up throwing them out and was gutted at wasting all those egg yolks! Back to stevia I think! (Even though truvia is an erythritol/stevia blend it somehow doesn't do the cooling thing)

Today's food:
B - 2 babybel, 2 mini pepperami (rushing out the door)
L - pate and Boursin with cucumber and celery to dip in
D - cauli rice (the frozen bags from Iceland) chicken and chorizo with courgette, shallot and a little red pepper
S - more babybel, mini bag pork scratchings
Water - 3L Smile

prettybird · 18/01/2018 23:44

Can't remember who it was who was asking about exercise DVDs and who was going skiing ( abbey44 ?) but just thought I'd add that Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD works well as preparation for skiing. Its combination of strength, aerobics and abs covers all the areas you need to work on. Lots of squats (good for skiing position), aerobics to get you fit and core muscle exercises to keep you in the right position on your skis.

Since I've started doing it before a ski holiday, I've stopped having that "Ow, ow, ow" feeling in my calfs on Day 2/3 when going down stairs Grin

Morning all!

Plantlover, I didn't complain either. I wore it once.

I haven't tried giving blood for a while - in my twenties I was repeatedly turned down for being too anaemic, and in my thirties... well, I used to faint every time they stuck a needle in Blush. For no reason at all! I'm not scared of needles, I'm not anxious about any of the process; as far as I can tell I have no issue with any aspect of the whole thing. But as soon as that needle went in, I was waking up with a warm, woozy feeling to lots of people bent over my face and repeating my name very loudly. Blush I decided not to waste their time anymore, but it might be worth trying once more when I've settled to this way of eating?

I've realised it's embarrassment causing me not to post any meals - you're all being so creative and adventurous! I used to cook (very well!) for my exH, but on my own have found the main meal of the day is so much less of an event that I don't expend much thought on it. Every day is pretty much the same: roast a piece of extremely fatty meat, then serve with a big bowl of green veg microwaved with butter (usually broccoli, sprouts, leeks, garlic, bit of celeriac, mushrooms, in whatever combination). Breakfast and lunch are always eggs, Total, and interesting green leaves. Conventional wisdom says we should be eating a wide range of food - but for this transition period, simple and repetitive is really helping me stay on track, by not letting my mind dwell on the maybes and whatifs. (have lost some more pounds, but am waiting to see if that sticks around for Monday).

Rshard · 19/01/2018 06:40

Thanks for the brownie recipe nekobus will def try

I heard them make that while making dinner orkneyfudge, so I’m glad you posted that link

All this talk of blood donation has made me realise I’ve not done it for ages. They used to come to my workplace which was great as could just nip off. Must look up the next session

Yesterday’s food
B - buttery spinach omelette
L - cheese salad mayo
D - bolognaise with courgette spirals

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 19/01/2018 07:19

Morning. Have overslept (lovely deep LCHF sleep) so instead of leaping for the shower I am lying in bed and posting!

B Parma ham
L avocado and celery
D burger and celery
S cold roast chicken and a couple of creamy coffees.
W not enough!

JingsMahBucket · 19/01/2018 07:35

Morning all. Checking in because I haven’t been on since Tuesday evening!! Wednesday went fine after my carby twatness but then I managed to food poison myself Wednesday night with some dodgy mozzarella in my omelette. I spent the majority of yesterday in the toilet with both ends on fire. SORRY TMI.

I haven’t even weighed myself since Monday I think. I’ll weigh myself this morning and get back on track.

SayrraT · 19/01/2018 07:39

Oh no jings think of the extra weight loss though Grin

Alwaysinmyheart · 19/01/2018 08:23

Well that's one way to lose weight!

Found a new website, Ditch the carbs and there's some good ideas for snacks

www.ditchthecarbs.com/easy-low-carb-snacks/

littleladylawyer · 19/01/2018 08:39

Thanks prettybird, it's me skiing and hoping to exercise! I'm going to give Jillian a go. There's such lovely snow this season that I imagine we'll be doing a fair bit of off piste which is such a killer on the legs so I could definitely do with starting something now, even if it's only for a few weeks.

It's my birthday next week, and DP has offered to cook me a low carb pudding/treat thing instead of a cake. Those brownies look great nekobus, does anyone have any other tried and tested recipe ideas I can give him to chose from? I previously tried a stevia sweetened baked custard but it turned to scrambled egg Confused
