New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

I adapted Nigella's cloud cake to use Stevia rather than sugar. It's a flourless cake (uses ground almonds). It was a great success.

Just checking in - all fine here, found some frozen spinach at last to veg up my frittatas.

Away next week with boozy greedy friends but I will just say I don’t want to come back heavier than I went out and I think they’ll understand as they’re very old (slim) friends who have seen me balloon with some puzzlement. So I’m all set!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/01/2018 09:31

Will catch up properly in a bit but just wanted to say that I managed to cut my trip short yesterday and got home last night. I am now sitting down to a delicious breakfast of fried mushrooms and bacon with a creamy coffee - so happy I could weep!

Day 3 was as follows:

B: 2 slices leerdammer, some olives and butter mint tea
L: I ate the cod out of some battered fish
D: I ate the cheese, rocket and cherry tomatoes off a pizza (client thought I was bonkers!)
S: a couple of slices of cheese and some olives; also a couple of teaspoons of extra thick cream when I got home Grin

So I managed to keep on the straight and narrow but it was difficult and frankly I was pretty starving by last night - Ididn't manage as much veg as I would normally and not quite so much water. Proud for not caving and demolishing the pizza Smile

prettybird · 19/01/2018 09:31

FiveTwoFriends - I need to remember to use some of my frozen spinach in omelettes.

Sounds like your friends will be understanding. KOKO!

littleladylawyer There are lots of recipes for cheesecake online which are pretty foolproof, just depends on your favourite flavour!

prettybird · 19/01/2018 09:34

TheWayOfTheWorld Star for keeping to it. It is possible to follow this WoE when you're out, even if others think you are nuts for picking out the bits you can eat Wink

Well done wayoftheworld Grin why should we eat something that doesn't agree with us just because others are there.

mrsglowglow · 19/01/2018 09:43

Athelstane, your meals sound really good and as long as you're enjoying them it doesn't matter that it feels repetative. Whatever makes it easier for each of us to stay on track. My breakfasts and lunches have been quite repetitive to save time and also to use up the ingredients as only me on this woe in the house.

weebarra · 19/01/2018 09:55

Can you hit me with things to do with kale? I have a big bag and only the Guinea pigs and I will eat it.
Went out with friends last night for an Indian and was so good! No rice, no naan, no alcohol. Appear not to have lost weight so far this week though, which is disappointing.

lisbapalea · 19/01/2018 10:03

Thanks BIWI - I think you might be right about the dairy, but I am very reluctant to ditch my greek yogurt breakfast. Might trial it when current tub is finished....

Today:
B - Greek yog, berries and some flaxseed (need to give my digestion a kick start and think it has worked!), also had a coffee with dble cream
L - going for this afternoon tea with work, but I checked the menu and I think I might go for the eggs benedict minus the muffin
D - visiting a friend for dinner but have given the heads up about the carbs so hoping I will be OK

On my 2nd litre of water.....

mrsglowglow · 19/01/2018 10:04

Weebarra, I sauteed kale in butter and shallots the other evening and was tasty. I also had some mixed in with cauliflower cheese.

My dinner last night was homemade beefburgers with shallots, topped with cheddar and celeriac paprika chips and side salad . the rest of the family had the bun with it and normal chips with corn on cob. It was very filling.

littleladylawyer · 19/01/2018 10:10

Thanks prettybird and Alwaysinmyheart, cheesecake and cloud cake sound delicious- I'm dribbling a little bit now! I'm going to give him a few recipe links and see what he comes up with!

Well done wayoftheworld, fantastic job when faced with very tough choices. Hope you have some lovely low carb meals planned to recover now you're back!

ilovecherries · 19/01/2018 10:22

weebarra, kale crisps are lovely. Rip out any tough stalks, put them in a big bowl with a glut of olive oil, and get in with your hands - it needs a good massage. Then stir in salt, pepper, chilli flakes and Parmesan. Spread on a single layer on a baking tray, stick in oven at about 150. Watch like a hawk - they don't take long. As soon as they are crisp, take out of oven and allow to cool on baking tray. Once properly cold, they can be stored in an airtight container.

ilovecherries · 19/01/2018 10:23

Put the KALE in a bowl - not the stalks. Blush Cavies will enjoy the stalks!

Rshard · 19/01/2018 10:32

I gave a massive bag of kale weebarra, I’ve had it fried in butter, it’s really nice and going to do the crisps that prettybird mentioned over the weekend

Gammeldragz · 19/01/2018 10:57

kings oh no! I did similar a fee months ago with dodgy halloumi. I used to love that stuff but can't even think about it now Sad

Gammeldragz · 19/01/2018 10:58

Typos! jings and 'few'.

GailLondon · 19/01/2018 11:11

Happy Friday everyone!

Fed up of cooking all week so am walking to Nando's for a chicken salad at lunch and then ordering Japanese takeaway for dinner! Can't wait!

Rshard · 19/01/2018 11:19

Is the Nando’s salad nice gail? I’ve forgotten my lunch today so was thinking of what to have

QueenOnAPlate · 19/01/2018 11:52

Little Lady Lawyer - Delia's squidgy chocolate log is a brilliant low carb pudding ( with sweetener rather than sugar)I tend to use a flavoured dark chocolate in the mousse. Orange or cherry is good

Appaloosajunction · 19/01/2018 12:03

Just had a late breakfast of thin ham slices rolled round a centre of full fat cream cheese. Really tasty and satisfying.
Still off the sugar!!! Can't believe it
No Biscuit for me.

Keep on trucking losers.Grin

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/01/2018 12:15

Ok, TMI time re bowel movements (don't say I didn't warn you...)

Desperate urge to go, made it to the bathroom on time and evacuated the most noxious, green liquid. Green?!!! WTF? Feel ok now though.

Confused
Alwaysinmyheart · 19/01/2018 12:25

Green! Is that all the kale...Grin?

TheWayOfTheWorld · 19/01/2018 12:28

Always I've eaten hardly any salad or veg over the past few days. I suppose it could be the rocket from last night... Hmm

Plantlover · 19/01/2018 12:30

Jings

Did the mozzerella not smell off? I use it after the date on it and smell it. Off mozzerella stinks!
