New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

prettybird · 15/01/2018 08:10

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

I am planning on making almond bread using almond flour, salted butter, 2 eggs, cheese and cayenne pepper. Going to try making it in cupcake tin for smaller bite sized portions. I plan on a lot of amazing food prep this weekend. Heres hoping!

Got an awful taste in my mouth! Definitely know the low carb is kicking in. Are there any remedies for the taste? Even sugar free gum is carby!!! What have others done to tackle this problem?

prettybird · 18/01/2018 19:28

The nasty taste in the mouth can (like thirst even you've had plenty of water) be an indication that your electrolytes are out of balance, so try a mug of Bovril or bouillon initially. Chewing some parsley or mint can help too.

Drinking bouillon helped me princess

ilovecherries · 18/01/2018 20:02

Marigold Bullion is your friend, Princess. I wouldn't have made it through my first month without it.

Went to the coast today - beautiful day here :). All wrinkly from the hot tub!

Hello, checking in.I was just wondering if anyone has tried freezing celeriac? I really like it as chips, but often can’t be bothered to peel and cut it once the children are finally in bed and it’s time to prepare dinner. I was wondering if I could cut up a load of celeriac into chips and then keep it in the freezer ready to throw in the oven. Sort of like low carb oven chips? The only challenge I can think of is that I usually drizzle them with olive oil before baking, but perhaps I could do that before freezing them?

LeapinLizards · 18/01/2018 20:16

princess i think airwaves gum is carb free. I googled it.

prettybird · 18/01/2018 20:18

Not tried it Titus . If no one else answers/has done it, maybe you can experiment on our behalf Wink

I'm sure freezing celeriac rösti would work. Just not sure about chips.

Always in my heart

Could you post the recipe for low carb brownies please?

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 18/01/2018 20:23

I'm sorry, but what??? Chewing gum! Really?

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 18/01/2018 20:26

Jeez....

I just looked it up. It's 2g of carb per tiny thingy. Gah!

Is that even if you chew it rather than swallow it

Plantlover · 18/01/2018 20:32

Athelstane

I travelled two hours to Rigby and Peller and they sold me this awful bra I did not wear once and couldn't get into alone.

I wish I complained because it was very expensive.

LeapinLizards · 18/01/2018 20:39

theSeason you're right - I am aghast! I don't know how I made that mistake. I have been chewing it like there's no tomorrow. Surely, surely it must only be 2g if you swallow it. Surely!?

Alwaysinmyheart · 18/01/2018 20:40

Here is the recipe for low carb brownies. I used Splenda as a sugar substitute which was fine, I have never tried any of the other ones, don't know what other pp's experiences with sweeteners are. I use Splenda as it was the one Dr Atkins originally recommended but I know there's other ones on the market now.

Also, there's a useful app called Copy me that which you can use to save your recipes. Pinterest has lots of low carb recipes on it and you can also pin your recipes there.

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help, I'm planning on donating blood tomorrow. Usually they say have a cup of tea, biscuit, orange juice after and drink lots of water before and after. The water part is fine 😁 but is there any reason the snack after can't be some cheese ie baby bell. I searched google and someone took almonds but these aren't allowed. I can ring tomorrow but just thought someone else may have done it recently. Thx

nekobus · 18/01/2018 21:02

Thanks prettybird some great burns supper ideas there! Im toying with smoked salmon starter but was eyeing up the black pudding in supermarket today wondering how I could incorporate it into my menu! Main will be the usual haggis neeps and tatties but might do some celeriac dauphinois for me or just cauli mash.

Mrsglow I would be very interested to know what to have too, I'm hoping to give my first blood donation soon.

My favourite low car brownie recipe is here. www.uplateanyway.com/keto/chewy-fudge-brownies/

prettybird · 18/01/2018 21:06

Mrsglowglow - I've not given blood recently, but I reckon that a babybel or a pepperami would be fine as a post donation snack. Plus plenty of water of course Wink

Alwaysinmyheart · 18/01/2018 21:16

nekobus that looks nice! Which liquid sweetener do you use?

And 6 egg yolks, wow!

Kleptronic · 18/01/2018 21:20

mrsglowglow I've been doing this a year and have given blood 3 times, they never make me eat anything and I don't take a snack and I'm fine. As long as you've eaten beforehand and your fluids are up it's ok.

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 21:20

Thank you pretty bird. Yes I'm thinking that should be fine and I'll ask when i get there. I'm thinking we shouldn't need a burst of sugar to replace what's taken as we haven't had anything sugary for sometime anyway, but then i wondered about the science bit when blood is being built back up etc.

Nekobus, I'll let you know how it goes.☺

prettybird · 18/01/2018 21:20

nekobus - I have some Stornaway black pudding that I bought at Christmas and needs using by February (although it freezes well). It is just a different class of black pudding! Grin

thank you kleptronic!! That's fab to know.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 18/01/2018 21:22

We talked about giving blood on the last bootcamp as I had a donation booked. Consensus was lots of water and a low carb snack, make sure you have had plenty to eat beforehand too. I turned up, glugged all my water and then had to leave before donation as they were running 90 mins late so I never found out if it was enough. I am booked in again next month, so during this BC.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 18/01/2018 21:25

I would say that if it's your first donation they will take extra care of you anyway, I'm a regular so know how it affects me. I di have to take it easy for a few hours afterwards though or I can get lightheaded.

mrsglowglow · 18/01/2018 21:31

thanks whoknows , it's annoying when that happens. Hope it will be quick for me, they have been texting and emailing since boxing day but I've not been able to get there!

lisbapalea · 18/01/2018 21:32

Thanks for the feedback all. You've reminded me not to be despondent.

In week one I did feel different and certainly have lost the tummy bloat although clothes don't feel dramatically looser.

But I have been sleeping MUCH better and also think my skin is looking good too, which might be because of my other new year's resolution to remove make up every day and apply a night cream. Amazed I have stuck to that and low carbing!

Will KOKO and try not to be too greedy with my weight loss expectations!
