New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Hello bootcampers,

Loving reading all the positive threads. Thanks pretty bird for your dedication and time. Even though I'm not posting regularly I try to read all the posts and the meal ideas inspire me constantly.

I'm doing OK and no hunger pangs at all. My work colleagues are amazed as I'm normally the first one to dive into the biscuits, sweets and cakes. It's all spread out and they apologised for putting it in front of me but as I'm not hungry I really don't feel like I'm missing out.

Energy levels are up too and I'm getting up earlier without the alarm.

One strange thing though I was dreaming about eating oranges and saying how amazing they were. They are not usually my favourite thing but I've been thinking about them a lot!!!

lisbapalea · 17/01/2018 20:27

Hi all,

Don't think I have checked in since Monday. Have managed to stay on plan although feeling a bit annoyed that no weight is ahifting, but I am sticking to it in the hope of a whoosh in the next couple of weeks.

I am going to an afternoon tea on Friday and no real idea what to do without making a spectacle of myself. Think I might just hope that no one notices if I don't eat and I will just get something before or after.

Rshard · 17/01/2018 20:38

Excellent walking cherries!

Looking forward to seeing your next photos prettybird

I’ve saved that brunch recipe for bootcamp lite always, sounds lovely.

Today’s eating
B - scrambled eggs salmon
L - tuna salad mayo
D - microwaved brussels, buttery courgette cheddar

ponygirlcurtis · 17/01/2018 21:09

Great results there! I have also experienced the shoe-size drop with weight-loss - I am normally a 4, I can wear a 3.5 in some shops when I am at my lightest, and was quite shocked to find I had to start buying a size 5 when I ballooned!

Today's food:
L: broccoli and stilton soup
D: Tom Kerridge lasagne and assorted green veg
S: packet of pork scratchings

Just watching the Tom Kerridge prog again, going to try his beef stroganoff next I think - I usually use the Hairy Bikers' recipe but liked the sound of this too.

nekobus · 17/01/2018 21:14

Today's food:
B - really wasn't hungry so had a creamy coffee and a babybel
L - salad, avocado, feta
D - 3 fried eggs with asparagus to dip in
S - leftover sausage, leftover sprouts
2L of water and another 1 of fruit tea. Tried the pukka liquorice and mint - not sure about it it's got a really sweet aftertaste.

nekobus · 17/01/2018 21:15

Watching Tom too here on catch up. Stroganoff looked nice and I liked the consommé idea.

Rshard · 17/01/2018 21:16

I watched Tom too ponygirl and liked the sound of the stroganoff

BIWI · 17/01/2018 21:32

@AveAtqueVale he’s a grown up, isn’t he?! Then he takes responsibility for his weight, just as you are doing. Explain what’s making him put on weight (if he doesn’t get it), and then give him his options:

He cooks his own food
or
He eats what you’re having.

He doesn’t need the carbs. And he should broaden his tastes in veg!

But you shouldn’t be pandering to him - he’s not a child - and it’s making extra work for you.

BerylStreep · 17/01/2018 21:41

No one is immune from the stick. Even DHs 😂

I just wanted to mention that Prima Donna do amazing large cup small backer bras. They are quite pricey (about £70 - £80) but last an absolute age and an amazing fit. Rugby & Pellet keep them in store, or if you are confident about your size, Amazon often have them a bit cheaper. Bare necessities.co.uk also often them on sale.

BerylStreep · 17/01/2018 21:42

Rigby & Peller

prettybird · 17/01/2018 21:42

Ponygirl - if you're going to do the Tom Kerridge stroganoff, make sure to use a glug of oil instead of the 1cal spray (which is verboten on Boot Camp Wink) and using full fat creme fraiche (or even real cream).

I made the turkey schnitzel from his Dopamine Diet book tonight. Although it was very tasty, it was a real faff for 3 people and I'm not sure it is worth the effort. It actually left me in a bad mood rather than helping to generate dopamine Confused

Re the shoe size thing, I think one of the reasons why it goes up is not just length - it is the width increasing. Plus I wonder if the extra weight pushes our bones out! I know pregnancy can make your shoe size go up a wee bit, which may or may not go down again postnatally (although it doesn't keep going up after each pregnancy Wink). Maybe weight rather than pregnancy is the reason.

Kept to plan today.

B & L as already posted.

Ate dinner in restaurant

Absolutely moosive king prawns, fried in butter with blue cheese & cream sauce.
Steak and buttered beans.
Coffee and fresh cream.

A bit low on water, which is unusual. Will do better tomorrow.

ponygirlcurtis · 17/01/2018 22:23

Oh don't worry prettybird, I would only use proper stuff, I did when I made the courgette lasagne. And coconut oil or olive oil. That is all I have anyway!

Gammeldragz · 17/01/2018 23:01

ilovecherries hill walking and hot tub? Nice holiday!

Shoe size - I've been able to fit inton8s again after years of only being able to buy 9s. Some 8s still too tight, but I have bought two pairs this week after trying 9 first and finding them too big. Excellent NSV.

I measured myself near the beginning but lost them :( I do have some measurements on MFP. I will remeasure when weight starts going down again properly after Christmas gain. Last count hips down from 44 to 38, widest tummy from 44 to 37 and actual waist 36 to 32 (both varying with bloat levels), thigh 28 to 24, under bust 37 to 32.

My body fat is still 35% (from 45%) according to my scales. So I'm still a third fat...

Boobs - lots of anecdata suggests it's a LC thing but also genetic, so some will find LC they don't lose boobage when they do on other diets. Proposed reasons are fat intake, dairy specifically, avocados... Mine haven't shrunk as much as expected so I have also gone up a cup size as underbust has gone down a lot more.

headoutofthesand · 17/01/2018 23:16

What's the best thing to do with the celeriac I have lurking in the fridge? Dauphinoise? If so, recipe suggestions please!

bendyruler · 17/01/2018 23:26

gammeldragz I had cabbage and bacon last night it was delicious thanks for the suggestion.
prettybird your garden looks lovely and I wish I had that view out of my window.
Have managed to stick to plan today I had
B Ham wrapped around a cheese slice and coffee and cream.
L same again and cucumber
D salmon with asparagus and creme fraiche
Drinking more water now I add hot water to it I find it makes it easier to drink.
Off to ikea tomorrow night with a friend so going to have to be careful because she wants to eat there hopefully can find something maybe meatballs and salad.

BIWI · 17/01/2018 23:30

@headoutofthesand go and look at the Bootcamp recipe thread (it’s stickied at the top of the Low Carb Bootcamp topic). There are several recipes for celeriac there

bendyruler · 17/01/2018 23:30

Forgot to say I bought the celeriac rice from Waitrose too it tastes ok but it smells horrible, I'm glad someone mentioned it thanks it's a useful thing to be able to eat.

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/01/2018 23:35

No snow here, but when we had snow last year, my garden looked like this!

New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!
New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!
TheWayOfTheWorld · 18/01/2018 05:34

Morning everyone, trying to keep up with everything going on! There is snow where I am too and it is about minus 6, brrr.

So yesterday was day 2 of 4 being away for work. There wasn't really much I could have for lunch and I ended up with a giant tub of Greek yoghurt and some mini salamis from Lidl. I had some of that over the afternoon after having had essentially a load of iceberg lettuce and cucumber drizzled in olive oil. I had been taken to a buffet lunch place and chosen that place what I thought was a chicken dish. Nope, it was some sort of soya protein and was horrid - I had one small bite and initially thought it was undercooked chicken, bleugh.

B: 3 slices of cheese, cup of butter mint tea
L: salad with olive oil
D: chicken salad with a boiled egg, 4 rollitos and some olives
S: few spoons of Greek yoghurt and some salami
W: managed around 2 litres I think.

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 18/01/2018 06:36

Morning. Dinner out last night, but I explained beforehand that I was low carbing and think I chose ok...

B bacon
L celeriac and pea soup (very few peas in it so hopefully not too disastrous) and an avocado
S a hunk of ham and an almond milk coffee.
D some olives, a crispy duck salad starter, fillet steak with Parmesan fried courgettes and a green salad for main, an espresso instead of pudding. Drank sparkling water throughout.

It’s a revelation to wake up after dinner out and not feel bloated.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 18/01/2018 06:50

Morning, all!

Our much promised heavy snow finally arrived overnight, and it's beautiful! I won't be able to get the car down the lane until at least a few tractors have been past, so going to rush around the garden like a loon this morning playing in the snow .

Beryl, love the "Rugby & Pellet" Grin I've been a bit biased against them since I visited for a fitting and they were a bit grumpy and sent me off with something far too large and droopy. But when I've (fingers crossed) lost this weight I'll try again with that brand you've suggested - thank you!

Gammel, those are also fantastic figures Shock - you must have halved in size! (just remembered, some ten years ago I did try a low calorie diet and my boobs entirely disappeared, before any other weight shifted. they did return but am glad that's not happening on this method).

blackteaplease · 18/01/2018 07:17

Urgh today is going to be tough. Littlest dc has hand foot and mouth and middle dc has random high temperature and will be off school. I've been up since 3.45.
So far so good on the food front,
chorizo avocado and mozzarella for breakfast.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 18/01/2018 07:28

Oh poor blacktea and dc.

I'm still keeping up with diet, if not the thread. Weight is varying by 3 or 4lb daily but overall I think there's at least a 2lb loss.

Rshard · 18/01/2018 07:46

Morning all

Sorry to hear the dc are poorly blacktea

I’m not at all envious of the snow, we have none but it’s very windy which made for an interesting drive to dd’s swimming this morning.
