New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

mimosa, I’m another one who has fine couch to 5k, it’s a great programme, very doable.

I don’t know if any of you are on twitter but I’ve just come across the @lowcarbGP. A guy called Dr David Unwin. His feed also led me to @dietdoctor1, which is the same as the website

StuntNun · 17/01/2018 13:01

Putty you can have dark chocolate too on Bootcamp Light.

Lawyer you can't go wrong with the 30-Day Shred for a home workout.

Ave I've never heard of this one before. I'm not certain that you can take the blame for your DH putting on weight. What is his diet like generally?

Twoo · 17/01/2018 13:07

Keeping to plan and off the scales.

Today’s Plan

B - 2 Cups of coffee with cream. By the time I got round to having food it was lunch time.

L - Game terrine, olives and Greek feta cheese. See picture.

D - Going out so don’t know what it will be yet but I will stick to plan.

Mimosa1 · 17/01/2018 13:08

Thanks, @time!

Season - I don't know, it never occurred to me to check and now I've thrown out the packaging. I'm planning to buy it again so will let you know when I do.

nekobus · 17/01/2018 13:15

Ave this is exactly what happened to my DH the time last year. He was essentially eating HCHF and put on almost a stone Shock . I started trying to add the fat element separately (eg hold the oil, cheese, butter etc.) sometimes I would take his portion out (for butter chicken I only add the butter once his portion is out). We eat a lot of meat/fish and two veg type meals so I can take the skin or fat off his protein then serve the same veg (only add butter to mine at the table) and he has carbs on top. I don't buy separate meat though so we do have the high % pork sausages which are quite calorific for him as he'll have 3 or 4 in one sitting!

Season, I get the Waitrose celeriac rice (may be same one as Ocado) and the only addition I remember was a preservative that looked lemony eg critic acid I think to stop it going brown, it's 25% off in Waitrose at the mo. Last night I cooked it then blitzed with butter to make mash. So nice!

nekobus · 17/01/2018 13:16

Lol 'citric' acid that should read

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 17/01/2018 13:41

They didn't have the celeriac rice in our Waitrose last week, might pop in again on the way home and check again.

Time, thanks for the tips, I do have silicone liners which I use for normsl homemade pizza base. Just wondering if kids will like it.

I'm front-loading my fat a bit (mostly at breakfast and lunch), partly in behalf of carb-eating family, partly because I don't find fatty main meals very palatable myself. I do add extra cheese to mine where it suits the meal, but still using "normal" amounts of oil and butter in cooked meals.

Gammeldragz · 17/01/2018 13:42

Bacon and Kale fried in olive oil, with Parmesan and mayo for lunch. It was gorgeous.
Swam 40 lengths earlier, after only a creamy coffee for breakfast, so I was definitely hungry!

Ave I worry about this with my DH. He has cut carbs a bit (switched cider for gin and soda) and eats omelettes a lot that are usually low carb. But he still has carbs and sugary things like biscuits so I do feel he eats more fat than he should just because I do...

SayrraT · 17/01/2018 13:52

Mmm ragz I had kale fried in butter for lunch.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 15:32

nekobus, I have a feeling that citric acid isn't lemons anymore. I think it's something to do with glucose and mould, but can't remember where I read that.

prettybird · 17/01/2018 15:59

I've taken my monthly measurements. Not much change for a while on my waist, but judging by the belt that I had to through out, I've lost c7" on my waist since I started in May. I only started taking measurements in mid August, so these don't reflect the full picture of my progress since May (since when I've lost a total of 3 stone)! GrinMy hips are smaller in the last month, but I'm hoping that my over-bust measurement will start coming down soon, to track the change in my under-bust. I've gone technically from a DD to an F Shock

17/1/18
Waist 34.5"/87.5cm: No change in a month; 3.5" overall
Under bust 34"/86.5cm: no change in a month; -3" overall
Over bust 41"/104cm: No change in a month; -1" overall
Hips 42"/106.5cm: -1" in a month; -3.5" overall
Thigh 24"/61cm: -0.5" in a month; -1.5" overall
Upper arm 12"/30cm:-0.5" in a month; -1" overall
Neck 14.25"/36.5cm: -0.25" in a month; -0.75" since September

Weight 11 stone 13lb (-3lb from November, -24lb since "start" ie in August, when I started taking measurements

Next month I'll do my tracking photos too!

Blimey, those are some impressive figures, pretty! Shock

I hadn't even considered measuring other areas - but you're right, they do count - I tried a top on this morning I usually reject because it's too tight on the under-armpit seam, but it was actually loose. Baggy even. I might steal your list of things to measure, if that's ok.

Have you noticed that things reduce in rotation? Maybe mid-section shrinks for a while, then limbs, for e.g.? Or does it all happen at the same time?

prettybird · 17/01/2018 18:15

I've not been measuring long enough to see any trends Athelstane - although that's an interesting way to analyse it.

The weight did initially come off my waist and at the moment it seems to be my hips that are "benefitting". I just wish my over boob measurement would move a bit: I like my boobs but I don't want too big a cup size (I'm really lucky and still have perky boobs, even at 56 Smile) and if my back measurement keeps going down, I'll struggle with bras Confused

The one measurement that I didn't take that I wish I had was my calf measurement. might do that tomorrow

Commercial citric acid is fermented fungi Shock - but from what I've read, any excess is just secreted.

Daily check in from my hot tub Grin. Have walked for miles today and I powered up a hill in 18 mins (very steep, messy underfoot, smidge under a mile). Last year that same hill took me 45 mins of tears, snot, cajoling, gasping, whining and stopping every 10 feet to catch my breath. I also was convinced I was going to faint because I was so shaky and sweaty. Today, quick march up, chatting all the way. Didn't realise the difference till DH pointed it out. And the views from the top were amazing :). Not convinced I noticed them last year as I was so busy trying not to die because the thought of mountain rescue trying to heave me back down was totally humiliating.

Slow cooker has been going since 9am so lots of garlicky, beefy, herby smells wafting from it :).

ilovecherries · 17/01/2018 18:24

Re measurements - the bit I noticed most was waist. Don't have them in from of me, but at one point I'd lost about 11inched off my waist and a smaller amount - 5?6? off my hips. My apple shape was actually concealing an hourglass! I have visibly lost everywhere though - can see collar bones, knee caps etc and have even dropped a shoe size. My underbust has gone down 4-6 inches, but my actual bust is not moving at all and I am heading to needing a 32KK BlushShock, which is beyond even bravissimo. I'm currently wearing a 34 K but it's on its tightest hook.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 17/01/2018 18:47

Impressive walking Cherries, well done!!

Amazing measurements, Prettybird, I'm going to measure again after a month I think.

Today has gone well, went swimming for 20minutes and weights for 20. A shame not to do more but I was very low on time before school pick up.
L- Greek yogurt
D- pheasant broth with courgettes, pheasant meat, celery

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 18:48

Interesting... I was wondering if there's any 'last on, first out' logic to losing fat, or perhaps the hormonal cycle affects different areas at different times of the month... Not that it's crucial to know, just interesting! {grin] Probably sparked off by the fact I struggled with bras today.

I've lost 1.5" off my bust in the last few weeks, and since my old ones are tatty and depressing in any case, I headed off to Sainsbury to buy a cheap thing to keep me going until I hit target. So I remeasured. I think you will not be surprised to hear that Sainsbury's do not do a 30DD. Settled for a 32D that certainly won't keep it's shape for long but is just about ok for now, particularly compared to the monstrous current ones.

cherries I am so jealous I haven't the words. Despite the snow forecast I'm going to try and drive close enough to a hill tomorrow to do the same . (hills are only 15mins drive away, but all the roads are tiny).

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 18:49

hang on... shoe size? that's crazy.

prettybird · 17/01/2018 18:53

I am so annoyed at myself for not measuring when I started in May. SadThat's why I've made such a point of recommending that Boot Campers measure themselves - even if they are too scared to step on the scales. Smile

So while I know I've lost 3 stone, I can't say definitively how much I've lost off my waist and hips.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 17/01/2018 19:00

Yup. I was 8.5 in May. They are all far too big for me now without insoles, thick socks etc. I've been trying on and I'm now 7.5, sometimes a 7. I never thought my feet looked fat, either!

prettybird · 17/01/2018 19:03

Athelstane - I've not lost a shoe size per se - but I might have been in denial about my shoe size going up Blush

I wore my favourite LK Bennett platform heels (purple suede) to the wedding I went to in May (at my heaviest Blush). Let's just say..... I had to squeeze my feet in they weren't comfortable. Hmm

Wore them again on Christmas Eve and they were back to being really comfortable Smile

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 19:07

Glad to hear you are turning out an hourglass, though!

I've lost 1.5" off my bust, 1" off my waist, and precisely nothing off my hips. I'm worried I'm going the other way, and will turn from an hourglass to a pear.

As for feet, I always assumed size was on length of foot - and I would not have believed it possible to have fat on the tip of your big toe, and the back of your heel Shock Grin

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 19:08

those are toe-knockingly fab shoes, btw
