Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

Does anyone know where I can get little cartons of uht double cream here in the UK? I found them abroad but not here. I don't mean the motorway service station tiny round pots.
I want them to take out with me so I can order a black coffee anywhere and add my own cream.

I looked on Amazon and no luck. Maybe a supermarket somewhere?

Gammeldragz · 28/10/2017 19:25

yolo why would the little cream pots not work? Found some on amazon that say 10% fat, better than milk.
Anything bigger you'll end up carrying around open...

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 28/10/2017 19:37

Nope not cheap YoLo although they were on special offer for £2.50 I think.

I then found a recipe to make your own which looks really easy but (almonds + blender) but then you would have to think of a good way to carry it around with you. Tiny Tupperware?

ilovecherries · 28/10/2017 19:53

Chicken fajitas without the fajitas and with home made guacamole and salsa. Yes, I know tomatoes aren't terribly low carb but I've been doing this for five months now and have realised if I go much lower than 30 gms of carbs - certainly below 25gms - I don't feel so good. I've been a bit too low carb the last few days (for me), and was getting itchy and my experience tells me a few cherry tomatoes don't trigger a carb fest the way a slice of bread might. Was very delicious.

B: cheesy scrambled egg and mushrooms
L: Greek yogurt with nuts and seeds
D: fathead pizza - this was a revelation! Really lovely. So much so that I am currently feeling a bit guilty like I have cheated in some way....

Thiswillbemyusername · 28/10/2017 19:57

I have a NSV: I used to be a wine 'guzzler' (I'd drink it even if it didn't taste good). This evening I had a glass of good wine (dry white) and was then offered a second glass of a different wine. I couldn't drink it!. My sense of taste has become heightened with this is WOE so I now can't stomach anything that tastes crap. I also turned down cakes, chocolate, bread, potatoes with ease.

Frigglet · 28/10/2017 20:50

How delighted am I to post that I finally found celeriac!! Yay!! And it was not a disappointment. I’m going to make some rostis and mash tomorrow.

Thanks for all the recipes and enjoying the NSVs. Today I had:
L - cheese salad
D - celeriac mash, chicken thigh, salad

About 2 litres water.

I think I need to downsize my portion sizes. even though I’m using small plates, it seems like a lot of food and I push myself to eat it as I don’t want it to go to waste. Not feeling confident about Monday’s weigh in, but glad I’m not having any carb or sugar cravings, which is a bonus.

I’ve got a few nights out pencilled in (I rarely go out) as I’m feeling more confident about socialising and think I deserve to treat myself! Smile

Scabbersley · 28/10/2017 20:59

Brunch : leftover aubergine lasagne
D: stir fry beef and broccoli. Greek yogurt with a few raspberries

DrDiva · 28/10/2017 21:07

I am really, really struggling with the water... Sad

YoLoNovVitMe · 28/10/2017 21:18

ragz they are only 10ml each which means I need to use 3 or 4 to make a black coffee the right colour! That makes the cost about 50p per cup. If I'm already paying 2.50 for an Americano then I'd like to keep the cream cost down. The ones I bought abroad were in mini cartons with a screw lid. Each one did 3 or 4 coffees. Ideal to take out for the day. And UHT so fine not in fridge.

TheMonkeysOnTheTable · 28/10/2017 22:16

I'm back from my buffet. The food was fine. There were lots of low carb choices - a cooked mushroom and spinach dish (don't think there was much fat in it) lots of meat (I had chicken drumsticks and ham), various salads, egg mayo, a crustless quiche and lots of cheese.
I had a glass of prosseco in the end but nothing else.

SoMuchToBits · 28/10/2017 22:46

Wow, Monkeys, that sounds like a great buffet! Most of the ones I have been to have far fewer low carb choices. I've never seen a crustless quiche in a buffet but would love to .

TempusEejit · 28/10/2017 22:56

@YoLoNovVitMe if you have a B&M Bargains in your part of the world they sell the little pots of UHT 10% cream (0.4g carbs each) - a pack of 10x pots is 39p!! I bought 4 packs yesterday. Otherwise Coffee Compliment creamer portions are available in Tesco for £1 a box which are about 1g carbs each, not great but better than milk (depends on whether you are following clean keto or just low carb as to whether you'd want to use them though).

Gammeldragz · 28/10/2017 23:03

yolo those cartons sound brilliant, I want some now! Sounds like something a French supermarket would stock.
Would a day trip be unreasonable? Actually, cheese... Coffee. Hmm...

Fathead pizza was good, didn't cook the base as long this time so it wasn't as dry as the last few times. Good, but needed stronger flavoured toppings. Might try goats cheese and pesto next time. Or chorizo.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 28/10/2017 23:21

I'm struggling. I am still desperately missing both bread and milky coffee (been strictly cream only in it for three weeks but it still tastes really nasty compared to milk and I'm finding it increasingly hard to walk past Costa). I'm also fed up with butter and mayonnaise and everything tasting greasy and as though there is something missing (ie carbs). On the plus side I haven't touched alcohol and have not missed rice, pasta or potatoes too much. I have lost some weight. But I can't seem to get past the age-old psychological problem of looking forward to the day I can eat "normally" again. Probably not helped by the fact that when I have slipped up and eaten carbs there have been no negative effects whatsoever afterwards (physical or mental, I don't really feel bad about it). . I'm still here though. I do want to lose more weight, I've been fortunate so far that carrying a couple of extra stone for years hasn't caused any health problems and I feel good about myself generally but I would like to head off potential problems.

SayrraT · 28/10/2017 23:35

YoLo lots of places will have cream if you ask for it. I always ask for cream with my americano and most of the time it's fine. I guess though that the times it's not fine is when you'd need your cartons!

Frigglet · 28/10/2017 23:56

Hey Slimey, c’mon, you’ve got this. I truly love rice too, it’s one of my favourite foods, but I’ve found that cauliflower rice is a credible and tasty alternative. I read on the recipes thread that someone had suggested egg fried rice using cauliflower rice. I’m going to try making special fried rice with it. Does that sound like something you might enjoy? I’m also sat here making a list of what I’m going to batch cook for the week.

My weakness will probably be that I’ll want to eat too much because it’s all so tasty. Tomorrow I’m looking forward to roast dinner - fatty pork chop, celeriac mash, creamy sauce, buttery green beans and a side salad.

TempusEejit · 29/10/2017 00:11

WhoKnows if you really need a bread fix try protein rolls from Lidl - 29p each, around 8g carbs per roll but they are large and seriously filling. As for milky coffee have you making it with unsweetened almond milk? Not as in adding it as though you were using regular milk - I find almond milk too wishy washy for that - but by making a latte with it. Might be worth a try.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 29/10/2017 01:39

Just been a bit or a carby twat. Dinner in Mexican restaurant, had fajitas, swopped carby things for salad etc but then they gave me a basket of free tortilla chips and salsa.

All I can say is at least I didn’t eat them all.

Google reckons 18 chips is 38g carbs. Have been pretty low carb otherwise so I’m hoping I’ll still be under 80g which is about as far as I can push things.

I’m hoping it might help me sleep though. Jet lag + keto insomnia is not fun!

Velocity · 29/10/2017 06:18

Confession time - a few crisps on Friday and then some small pieces of cake over the weekend (was hard/rude to say no) and now off on holiday for a week. So I’m also a carbytwat but wasn’t as twatty as I could have been. Now on holiday for a week - plan to make the best choices possible.

Almahart · 29/10/2017 06:41

Went to friends for dinner last night. Had lots of salad and cheese, ate meatballs, left the pasta and resisted cocktails. Had a piece of flourless chocolate cake and four glasses of wine. Don't regret it at all, am back on strict boot camp today and curious to see when the blip will come and go in the scales

In a few weeks I have a very old friend's hen do to go to and I will do my best and enjoy every moment before getting back on the wagon.

Almahart · 29/10/2017 06:43

And NSV I wore some size 12 jeans that I couldn't fit into before BC! Bit tight but the Ines I had been wearing had gone from being quite snug fitting to being a sort of boyfriend jeans fit

Veryflummoxed · 29/10/2017 06:46

That sounds good Frigglet, the having more confidence I mean. That’s a real NSV. And glad you’ve discovered the celariac. Life will never be the same againGrin
Yolo can you buy a small plastic tub and fill from home. I know at least one other person posted about doing that everyday. And it wasn’t UHT but stayed fresh. Also, for any one who doesn’t know, places like Starbucks and Costa will give you pouring cream if you ask. My last trip to Starbucks slightly disappointing though as they put it in rather than giving it in a separate jug. I think they’ve started going through a lot of creamGrin

* I've never seen a crustless quiche in a buffet but would love to .* when we went to an “everyone bring something” get together last Christmas dh did a couple of quiches and a crustless one so there’d be something for us. Everyone went for the crustless one. Sad

and Whoknows as Tempus suggested I use almond milk for a latte and also, recently discovered, for a chai latte. It’s lovely, a bit too lovely as I’m having to resist another one.

Having decided to remain strict boot camp, which I think is necessary for me, I’ve found myself over the last couple of days eating salted almonds, and not just one or two. I’m not eating carbs (and there is a lot of carb eating going on around me, but I’m not really having a problem resisting that) but I am eating to much then the nuts and latte on top. I suspect as well as telling myself I deserve it because I’m low I’m telling myself I deserve it for not eating the carbs. It has been a sad time for me but I do need to get a grip, there’s no way I will have lost on Monday and wouldn’t be surprised to have gone up. Any way we’re off for a family day out today and I woke to the smell of DH cooking for the picnic; sausage rolls for everyone else and belly pork for me.

Sorry it’s taken me ages to post this and some of it has probably already been said.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheSlimeGoes · 29/10/2017 07:01

Thanks Tempus and Very - we have a coffee machine with milk steamer so I could try the almond milk latte. I don't actually know what a chai latte is, I like my coffee totally plain apart from milk, notvery adventurous. I'll see if I can get to Lidl this week to look for the rolls, I don't normally shop there but do drive past one on the way to work, I am finding a lot of my high fat meals really unpalatable with nothing to absorb the grease.

HarlotsWeb · 29/10/2017 07:16

Well done everybody for NSVs. Mine seem to have vanished but I shall stay hopeful. Yesterday not great - I ate a thin slice of some Victoria sponge because I once again was too feeble to risk offending someone. And ended up eating croutons on my salad - I had initially left them to one side, but then everyone sat at the table for ages, and out of sheer boredom and desperation I ended up putting them one by one into my mouth...
