Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

AveAtqueVale ah carbonated sprouts

Rshard · 27/10/2017 06:44

yolo I just put in a splash of cream. Cheese in after blending. The fish cakes were from Jamie Oliver book. Here’s a photo of the recipe and the finished article. NB - Jamie’s finished article, mine were a bit more rustic looking!

Yay it's Friday! Another week almost done.

I was really craving wine last night but DH is away and I didn't want the temptation of an open bottle on the side, so I made a bullet proof cocoa instead. It was surprisingly comforting.

I need to eat more veg, I can never be bothered to cook properly when home alone but cannot survive on just meat egg and cheese.

Food today
Breakfast 2 fried eggs, 2 slices prosciutto and an avocado. 2 creamy coffees
Lunch will be salad of some description
Not sure about dinner yet.

JumpingIntoLCHF · 27/10/2017 07:54

Going to Wagamama for dinner tonight. Has anyone eaten LCHF there? Any recommendations of what I can order?

blackteaplease · 27/10/2017 08:24

Jumping I can't answer your question on Wagamama menu choices, but I'm sure a couple of Bootcampers went last week. If you don't get an answer here perhaps try a search on last week's thread.

twinkledag · 27/10/2017 08:30

Going into the weekend with a 2lb loss Halloween Grin

Thanks for news on @C4rollinandventing Flowers

At Wagamama I would have one of their soups but ask for no noodles.

Good morning, all! I am still not losing at all (in fact, gaining a bit), nor seeing any other positives, but have not eaten chocolate or drunk wine for 18 days now, so worth staying on this woe just for that!
So, I have a query which might make a big difference to my life! I am a massive (huh) celeriac fan and was just inputting a recipe for celeriac bravas to work out the carbohydrate content per serving because I was worried about the tomatoes. I was very surprised to see that the celeriac came up at 9.2 per 100gms, not the 2.3 given on the spreadsheet veg counter (I think it may be 2.3 carbs per ounce?). I know it's still a lot less than the carb content of potatoes, but.. Does this mean we can no longer use celeriac as our go-to substitute for potatoes? (What's the emoticon for "devastated"? Grin) I hope I have misunderstood the way these things are calculated as I have been looking round the net and the average carb content for 100gms of celeriac does seem to be 9gms, so 3 times the amount of carbs per 100gms we are advised to have for veggies whilst on BC. Help!
KOKO, everyone!

blackteaplease · 27/10/2017 08:38

Ouis where did you get that count from for celeriac? I just checked tesco for their product information and it says 2.3g carbs per 100g.

Almahart · 27/10/2017 08:44

Thank you Jerm123 can't wait to try that!

Thiswillbemyusername · 27/10/2017 08:45

Morning all. I've put on a lb overnight. Could this be from steak? I've had it twice this week, both with blue cheese sauce. I'm going to stop eating it until I figure out what's going on.

YoLoNovVitMe · 27/10/2017 08:48

Thanks rshard going to try those on the weekend.

OuaisMaisBon · 27/10/2017 08:50

blackteaplease - here, here and Wikipedia, amongst many others. The sugar content shown seems to be around 1.6, though, which further throws me.

YoLoNovVitMe · 27/10/2017 08:51

this try posting pics of your plate. No one food will have such an impact or at least nobody can identify one as such. I suspect it's portion size. Something I struggle with. Im learning to dish up a smaller portion on a smaller plate rather than a larger one and force myself to eat it. Old habits die hard.

YoLoNovVitMe · 27/10/2017 08:52

this to add, overnight weight gain is most likely water or poo!!!

SoMuchToBits · 27/10/2017 08:52

thiswill, I wouldn't worry about putting on a lb. That just sounds like normal weight fluctuations. It will probably come off again soon. I can't think that steak would be a problem, but maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can help!

HarlotsWeb · 27/10/2017 08:54

jumping I think the advice last time was to ask for ramen without noodles.

A spoonful of last night's disastrous chocolate pot melted in cream and added to coffee this morning has actually made something pretty delicious!

OuaisMaisBon · 27/10/2017 08:59

Could this be the answer to the celeriac carb quandary? diabetes.co.uk

blackteaplease · 27/10/2017 09:04

Ouis two of those links didn't work but I did notice that UK sites are reporting lower values than American sites and also found a discussion online about raw vs cooked carb values. Hopefully @Biwi will enlighten us soon. I don't want to give up celeriac

Thiswillbemyusername · 27/10/2017 09:07

Thanks @YoLoNovVitMe and @SoMuchToBits I won't write steak off too soon then (good job too because it's delicious!). I did have a very large portion of vegetables so it could have been the carbs in that.

OuaisMaisBon · 27/10/2017 09:17

How odd, blacktea, all 4 of them work for me! Here's another one, see if this works for you! The raw and the cooked That one also shows a difference between raw and cooked celeriac, though cooked is still not as low as 2.3 per 100gms.
So, there seems to be a difference between UK and US sites (though not always) and definitely a difference between raw and cooked. I have always assumed that the values on the spreadsheet's carb counter are based on the raw vegetable weight.

OuaisMaisBon · 27/10/2017 09:17

Umm, not that I'm obsessed with celeriac! Oh, no!

prettybird · 27/10/2017 09:38

Is there not a difference with American sites including the fibre within their carb count or something like that ? Confused

TimeIhadaNameChange · 27/10/2017 09:42

Feel sad I can't join in with the celeriac love, but I tried it a few years ago and hated it :-(. Can't stand the taste. Nor celery, unsurprisingly. Oh well.

Had an great day yesterday (though nothing to do with this woe). Started off being diagnosed with severe anxiety, which, though not great does mean there's a reason I've been feeling so rubbish. I didn't think I was depressed but hadn't thought about anxiety, so in a way it's a relief to know there is something wrong.

But then I had a meeting with DP's boss which was amazing. He hadn't realised the extent of DP's problems, and is going to try and help, as they extend into DP's working life. By the end of it I truly felt as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders!

The flu jab was followed by home-made curry for tea. Discovered poppadums have less than 4g carb each. Probably not the best source, mind, but I enjoyed them. I also had a small amount of Naan bread, but I made the decision myself, and enjoyed every mouthful.

FurryTurnip · 27/10/2017 09:45

Hi all, glad everyone is doing so well and enjoying celeriac life! Wish I could join you but I have an aversion to it after a bad sickness bug years ago- it was not food poisoning but the last thing I ate before getting poorly was celeriac soup, so can't even smell the stuff now.

Today will be my first meal out, so bit nervous but luckily it's a curry place so will go for saag paneer and maybe an Aubergine dish. Will chew on the tablecloth while others eat chapati and naan bread.

B: cheesy buttery scrambled egg
L: fridge surprise
D: curry!

FurryTurnip · 27/10/2017 09:48

Ooh Time just read you post and may treat myself to half a poppadum tonight!

Glad you have a diagnosis for your anxiety- I have suffered with this and depression for years but am in a steady place right now. This WOE definitely helps me. And now you know your life can only get better.
