Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

Pretty and ClearEyes I'm glad I'm not alone. This week DH has eaten all my emergency pepperamis AND my pork scratchings. I'd hidden them at the at the cupboard. His special talent is sniffing out meat snacks : )

TheMonkeysOnTheTable · 26/10/2017 17:39

at the back of the cupboard.

Rshard · 26/10/2017 17:48

Thanks tempus for the halloumi recipe

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 26/10/2017 17:50

@TheMonkeysOnTheTable
My DW was hiding things in the saucepan drawer. Large spaghetti pot with slightly smaller lid. Until I needed the lid. Grin
I just try to forget that's where the chocolate and nuts are. Doing well this BC haven't even looked.
DD hides hers in the cleaning / supply cupboard in old tampon box. Was to heavy when moved for light bulbs.

Scabbersley · 26/10/2017 17:51

The celeriac is definitely making its presence felt Blush I have a meeting tonight which is going to be embarrassing

BlackMozart · 26/10/2017 19:23

Checking in this evening and wow this thread moves fast! am trying to remember who posted what but can’t, sorry.

I tried the avo chips tonight - fried them rather than baked because I was so hungry - in a little oil and then added some prawns, garlic and butter and three cherry tomatoes. It was all lovely and much nicer than the prawn and avocado salad I had been going to make.
Still off the choc and wine, still not enough water. Ho hum.

My emergency choc ‘mousse’ is just double cream, dark choc 70-80%, knob of butter and a tiny bit of sea salt (unless butter is already quite salty) melted together in the microwave 20 secs at a time, stirred and put into an espresso cup in fridge for an hour or two. Obviously depending on how much cream and choc you use this could get carby but I try to make the smallest amount I can and only in an emergency and ahem not on BC of course!

Thanks for the one on diet doctor too. That looks good and the one with orange and cardamom. I hadn’t come across the diet doctor site so will visit that again.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 26/10/2017 19:34

I loathe leeks.

Based on reading this thread I decided to make leeks fried in (salted, French) butter for my children tonight.

I've just taste-tested.

Oh. My. God.

prettybird · 26/10/2017 19:34

Monkeys - for cooking (like chocolate pots) I use the Lidl 74% dark chocolate. For snacking when I desperately need a chocolate hit either Lindt 90% dark chocolate for preference or the Lidl Ariba Superior 81% or their Ecuadorian dark chocolate (think it's 84%).

SoMuchToBits · 26/10/2017 19:55

See, this is how we could get kids who hate veg to eat them! Just cook them in butter with a bit of salt...

I've just enjoyed Indian lamb koftas with home made cucumber raita and buttered green beans. All made by ds (he had some rice too). Smile

BlackMozart · 26/10/2017 20:17

clear you have reminded me how much I love leeks...and French salted butter. I think tomorrow’s dinner may now be sorted along with some lamb. Can’t wait.

YoLoNovVitMe · 26/10/2017 20:36

I am cooking cauliflower cheese soup. I have some celery and cauliflower simmering in chicken stock. How do i do the cheese bit?

ilovecherries · 26/10/2017 20:57

As a piece of research, I picked up 4x5kg bags of potatoes in Tesco to see what 20kg felt like. Bloody hell. No wonder I was always knackered!

Till May this year I hadn't bought salt for 20 years. And I used to try and convince myself that 'frying' stuff in a little stock tasted nice. I was such a good little low fat girl. Everything about me was about the low fat. Except for my poor body.

SayrraT · 26/10/2017 21:08

cherries I've got a horse and when I move bags of bedding/feed I always think "this is how much I've lost/got to lose" Grin

Rshard · 26/10/2017 21:09

yolo I just stir some cheese into it towards the end, nice strong cheddar come through.

Halloumi chips were yummy, we had them with paprika mayo. I also made some salmon fish cakes, with lemongrass and coriander in. And a rocket salad. Dh loved it too. He had wine, I had water.

This woe has really changed me, I’m enjoying cooking new and different things to the same old. I always thought I didn’t like coriander and I’ve never used lemongrass before!

FinallyHere · 26/10/2017 21:12

Hello all, finally (sic.) caught up with everyone today. Gosh this thread moves quickly.

Thank you especially for the C4 update, hippa, good to hear.

Grimbles · 26/10/2017 21:20

So i made the celeriac rosti and it was lush!

I tweaked the recipe slightly as I didn't have any parmesan. I used a bit of mozzarella and a beaten egg to bind it together instead.

I fried some pancetta in butter, added the celeriac with the mozzarella mixed in, stirred it altogether and then added the egg and stirred again. Squished it all together and let it fry for 10 minutes - I then turned it out on to baking tray and put it in the oven at 200c for 10 mins.

YoLoNovVitMe · 26/10/2017 21:37

grimbles thst sounds yum.

hippa yes good news about C4. Looking forward to her breathing for herself and giving everyone hell.

Thanks rshard. Should I also add cream? Do I add the cheese before or after I have whizzed it with the blender? And can I have the fishcake recipe!!!!

YoLoNovVitMe · 26/10/2017 21:39

ilove indeed. High sugar low fat is shite. I will never go back. And my teeth and pancreas are thanking me.

CarbyDeadUn · 26/10/2017 21:40

Evening all.

How often can I have raspberries with yogurt and cream?

I’m knackered again. Been to roller derby training. I’m really far too old and fat and unfit for it. And now I hurt all over.

SoMuchToBits · 26/10/2017 21:47

I was watching Masterchef Australia this evening - and guess what? It featured celeriac! Grin

DrDiva · 26/10/2017 22:11

Celeriac are taking over the world! Well they are mandrakes in terrible disguise.

Frigglet · 26/10/2017 22:22

Hello hello. Loving the recipes, some seem easy enough for me to try. Just logging in:

B/L - tuna, cheese and olive salad
D - chicken thighs with cucumber and tomato salad.

Big dollop of mayonnaise with everything. Loads of water.

Work end of month lunch tomorrow at Turkish restaurant. Think I’ll have kleftico and salad.

AveAtqueVale · 26/10/2017 22:29

I was really excited about roasted brussel sprouts and mushrooms tonight. This is why I don't leave DH in charge of dinner... Angry.

Almahart · 26/10/2017 22:39

Went out with DH. I had salt and pepper squid and one glass of wine. Think the squid was very slightly coated with breadcrumbs but was delish.

DH had chicken with celeriac mash OMG the mash was amazing, do light and creamy. Mine is always a lumpy mess. How do that manage to make it light? -'Anyonr have any ideas?

NSV my jeans are definitely looser!

Jerm123 · 27/10/2017 00:00

Hi Alma,
The trick to celeriac mash is a stick blender and lots of butter.

Cut the celeriac into chunks.
Microwave for 8-9 mins on high in a little water.
Get rid of as much of the water as you can, then zap with the blender.
It will mash easily, but when you add the butter it suddenly becomes very creamy. Unlike potatoes (probably because of the lack of starch) you don’t have to worry about over-working it.
