Week 3 - the parting of the way! - Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 23/10/2017 07:26

Morning all

Here's the Spreadsheet

Hope you've seen a good result, making for a very satisfying first two weeks.

Now. Those two weeks were probably quite tough, so if you want to, you can now move on to Bootcamp Light - the rules are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Essentially this means you can start to skip breakfast (or another meal) if you want to - if you're finding that you're not hungry. (Please don't skip meals for any other reason)

You can also introduce some fruit - mainly berries - in moderation, and also nuts and seeks - again, in moderation - and alcohol - IN MODERATION!

But. It's very often the case that in weeks 3 and 4 your weight loss will slow right down. Sometimes you may see a slight gain, even though you know you've been following Bootcamp to the letter. So you may not want to relax things quite yet.

Entirely up to you.

Remember, though, if you choose to stay on Bootcamp, please remember to make sure you're getting your carbs in the most part from vegetables and fruit - you need that for proper nutrition.

If you like you can do a hybrid - Bootcamp during the week and Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

But whatever you choose - good luck and I hope you have a good week. Flowers

I've just eaten a croissant Sad

It was good but a bit worried now that I'm going to put 7lbs back on!

Back to Bootcamp for the rest of the day and week.

YoLoNovVitMe · 25/10/2017 09:39

scabber can you ask yourself why you did that. Understanding is the key to prevention next time.

Kleptronic · 25/10/2017 09:43

Wow Scabbers that's er definitely not low carb. Quick drink loads of water and run a half marathon! :)

Never mind tomorrow is day 1.

Scabbersley · 25/10/2017 09:51

I did it because I am super tired (teens party, not much sleep). At least it wasn't a chocolate one!

Hippadippadation · 25/10/2017 09:52

This - I've never eaten sugar free sweets before so I'm not entirely sure!

blacktea I'm totally making those!

Scabbersley one word - why???

NSV for me - just made clotted cream fudge, to use up the clotted cream I bought at the weekend so I don't scoff it all off a spoon and didn't lick any of the implements!

DearPrudence · 25/10/2017 09:57

I’m such a sheep. All the celeriac talk on this thread has caused me to buy one. I’ve never had it before.

NOMOREoatcakesandcheese · 25/10/2017 09:59

I want to assure all you celeriac lovers that I WON’T be contributing to the National Depletion of this vegetable, much favoured and sought after by Boiotcampers. I DON’T LIKE IT!!!
We’ve had a bit of a stressful few days as my step daughter spent Monday in A and E having got bitten by a dog on her face. She runs a mobile dog washing business with a friend and a dog got upset and but her. She’s got stitches in and feeling feeling very upset and tearful and very conscious of the wound with it being on her face. She doesn’t blame the dog as she thinks it was stressed by its shower etc and she wants to get back to dog washing as soon as poss.
* Sayrr*aT I read their threads too! Many years ago I went to WW meetings and they all used to go to the pub after their weigh in. Before the weigh in some of them used to take their jewellery off, wear their their lightest clothes. Mind you, I always weigh myself in the nude.
Ave I hope you get some good news about your DH
Blacktea well done for keeping to BC and hope all is well for you.
Totty great loss!
Welcome Blackmozart
Sorry if I missed anyone out. I do read all the posts

I’m fed up as I’m constipated again I drink my quota of water and take flaxseeds and magnesium pills and loads of veg and I’m still bunged. Sorry if TMI.

I’m off to see a very good friend today who I’ve not seen for about 3 months as she’s got awful family problems including a very sick DH I can only see her at her house as she needs to be near her DH. She’s doing lunch and I’ve explained the LCHF way to her and she said she’ll try to keep to that. I may take some yogurt and berries just in case for dessert as she might struggle to get to the supermarket and I don’t want to put her out.

I’m trying to beat the bold gremlin
KOKO EVERYONE

SayrraT · 25/10/2017 10:02

scabbersly was it good enough that you'd still be happy to have eaten it even if you do put 7 lbs on? If it was then that's fine IMO. If it's not "worth" the weight gain then you need to find alternatives methods for when you are tired.

HolgerDanske · 25/10/2017 10:30

Good morning everyone!

It's a beautiful sunny day here, which is lovely to wake up to.

Lots of wonderful NSVs to read about which is really positive and inspiring.

Sorry to each of you who have stressful or worrying things going on, and hoping for things to improve quickly. Flowers

On croissants... You will not have helped your tiredness with that. If you are tired or rundown you need to look after yourself properly, not put carby, sugary, wheat-laden things into your body! Did you not gave anything else you could have had for a hearty, filling breakfast to give you energy for the day? You would have probably got everything you needed even from just a BP coffee. Make sure you always have things in the house to feed yourself well. If it was sweet you were craving, you could have had a small piece of dark chocolate with a cup of tea and that would have probably hit the spot. Or another thing I do, if I really fancy something more unctuous, is I have one teaspoon of peanut butter and just eat that slowly. You'll be amazed how sweet and satisfying it is, and it's good for you!

Flowers Onwards and downwards!

ilovecherries · 25/10/2017 10:35

Sayrra, I read the threads sometimes. Blush. I always feel a bit guilty but I'm never disparaging or disruptive, it's more a 'thank god I left that crazy behind'. People do what they need to do, but it's hard to believe that any of these programmes create a healthy relationship with food, or are metabolically beneficial. I know not everyone needs the latter, but I hate all the 'naughty food' talk and the bizarre weigh in behaviour. My friend takes a laxative and one of those OTC diuretic things you can get for PMS the night before weigh in, then starves all day till meeting time, then heads to the Indian restaurant the minute they leave. She's 57 FFS.

HolgerDanske · 25/10/2017 10:45

On sugar free sweets, lots of the sweeteners they use (or maybe it's just the main one most often used in them, I'm not sure) have laxative properties.

HolgerDanske · 25/10/2017 10:49

Yes that's one thing that is so different about this WOE compared to many of the other well known diet plans - the emphasis is on health and healthy attitudes to food, and on learning to eat mindfully. Of course for many people who do SW or WW or whatever it's still helpful for them because they have a structure within which to hopefully make broadly more healthy choices than they otherwise might have done. But I still think it fosters quite an unhealthy approach to eating for many people.

Yesterday I had a lovely lamb leg steak and ratatouille dish from M&S, was very tasty.

Today I've got a tuna salad for lunch and I'm not sure what I'll have for dinner, maybe lamb again if I've got some in the freezer.

Lenl · 25/10/2017 11:00

I did slimming world years ago and attribute it to my weight gain. I gained about 20lbs from meeting DP, started sw, lost a bit but then gained rapidly - another 20lbs within a year then a couple of years later I gained 45lbs over 10 weeks, which stayed. I wasn't eating especially worse than ever at that time, I think something triggered in my body (I was extraordinary stressed so maybe cortisol was involved).

I think part of the reason is that I viewed the time between weigh in and the next day as 'not counting' and would have a carby fatty enormous cheat meal and dessert. It started me down the road of binge eating and ultimately I think that led me down the path of insulin resistance and all that we know comes with that. It makes me sad that so many years of my life were wasted binging on shit food all the time and hating myself.

Enforced fasting this morning. Baby basically didn't sleep until 5am when he slept til 9am, toddler also slept late and the whole morning has taken forever. Baby is now breastfeeding so stuck on the sofa. It's been 16.5 hours since dinner! I'm starving!

ilovecherries · 25/10/2017 11:02

Just waved goodbye to my mum and dad, they've got a long drive today from Cumbria to Inverness. I know I'm very lucky to have two parents both hale and hearty in their mid eighties, but I always feel a bit tearful now when I leave them. I guess getting to a place where the reality is that each visit could be the last one. This will be there last visit till Spring as Dad doesn't like driving if there is any chance of poor weather now, but I will go back to Inverness for a long weekend in 6 weeks. I do wish we lived nearer.

SayrraT · 25/10/2017 11:02

I think the difference between this WOE and most others is stark. I never comment on other threads, I'm the same as you cherries just glad I found BC.

holger I think on this woe we are all on our way to having a much healthier attitude to food.

I wonder if it helps that you can't cheat and make up for it on this woe in the same way as you can on a calorie controlled diet.

Obviously though, these other plans do work for some, and lcing won't suit everyone either.

ilovecherries · 25/10/2017 11:04

Their last visit. Not there. Why does MN render me barely literate some days!

Rshard · 25/10/2017 11:12

Quick question - is anyone suffering from a dry mouth/thirst. It’s kind of like when you’ve had loads to drink. I’ve already had a litre of water and can’t shift it. Anyone else?

blackteaplease · 25/10/2017 11:15

@YoLo the avocado chips are best with slightly hard avocado but any is good. The cheese goes all hard and crispy then the avocado is soft on the inside.

Mimosa1 · 25/10/2017 11:18

Hi all,
Hope everyone is doing well today and ave best wishes to your DH. Monkeys great NSV :) Thanks to the PPs who suggested remeasuring myself / adding in cup Size/Milk weight but not endowed in that area-don't have anything proper here to measure but I added another cm to the calculator to see what kind of difference it would make and it only added 1kg to the upper BMI blindât so whatever way you look at it, I've got a way to go. Getting down to 75kg is still a good goal for end of BC though I'm secretly hoping for more. This woe DOES work and I'm proof though so I WILL get to a healthy BMI in the end, even though grah made me laugh with the Bloody Madeup Indicator. Have other people set goals for BC or more taking it week by week?

prettybird · 25/10/2017 11:20

Yes - I get that thirst sometimes. I think that - counter-intuitively to me at least it means that you're short on salt and potassium. A cup of bouillon, Bovril or a stock cube might help more than more water.

HarlotsWeb · 25/10/2017 11:32

I've set goals, mimosa! My overall one is to get from the obese category into the overweight one. But I also have lots of little interim ones - 2lbs off will get me below the next stone threshold, etc. and I try to celebrate those and remember that each little step is a triumph, rather than beating myself up over a bigger target that I haven't quite made it to.

ponygirlcarcass · 25/10/2017 11:35

Hope your DD is OK Nomore, no wonder she is shaken up. Hope your DH is doing better now Ave.

I might try those avocado chips, I was going to have avocado for lunch anyway. Don't have parmesan though so will try it with Cheddar.

TempusEejit · 25/10/2017 11:36

@CremeDeSudo this is probably too late but cooked celeriac rostis freeze very well. I like to press the mix into my brownie tin (which has 12 separate holes) or you can shape into mini rostis on a baking sheet. Cook around 20 mins, turning halfway through. Cool then freeze. Reheat from frozen for around 10 mins in oven - great with a cooked breakfast in lieu of hash browns! Leftover celeriac dauphinois also freezes well.

Rshard · 25/10/2017 11:48

Thanks pretty I’ll buy some bouillon at lunch time.

I go with mini goals mimosa. First one was to get rid of my holiday gain which I have - yay! Next one will be to get into the 10’s.

I’ve been interested in reading the views on BMI and goal weights. I’m short so the weights are tiny that would be hard to get to and impossible to maintain. I’ve already lost 3 stone with ahem.... WW and they insist your goal has to be within your BMI range unless you have a letter from your gp. At least that’s how it worked at the meeting I went to. Ridiculous.

ilovecherries · 25/10/2017 11:57

mimosa, I've had a series of mini goals - in fact I'm not even sure what my final goal will be. I frequently change units of weight as well, to make the goals work for me. I started 2017 at 16 stone, joined bootcamp in May at 15 stone 6 (that's how well calorie counting worked for me! 5 months of misery for half a stone!). I'm now 12.12. My mini goals are usually between 4-7 lbs. I'm now smaller than I've been for over 25 years. My adult kids have never known me at this weight.
