Week 8 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - two months almost done ...

Morning all

Flowers

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So the finish line is almost in sight. I see from the last thread that some of you have been struggling to stay on track - just three more weeks to go, so stay focused.

That 'it's only one piece of bread/one glass of beer' moment really isn't worth it. Been there, got the t-shirt.

If you're bored with the food - there are two things that could help you. Firstly, think back to the last time you were doing a low calorie/low fat diet - how awful was it to have to scavenge the shelves looking for something low calorie enough, and how often were you eating food that didn't actually taste that nice, but delivered only on the basis of being low calorie? Rice cakes that might as well be polystyrene ceiling tiles, for example!

And then go and read the recipe thread for some inspiration, and find something new to cook. There's nothing on there that's difficult to do.

I'd also say that I see a lot of you are trying to recreate things that are high carb - pizza or bread, for example. These things are very unlikely to be the same, or as nice, as the high carb versions. And all the time you're trying to recreate something you're missing, you're just reminding yourself that you're missing something!

So try not to do this, but focus on things that are beautifully low carb and that you can enjoy for their own taste and benefits.

Here's to a successful week for us all.

MOIST, they don't laugh at applicants. Take a deep breath. Flowers

MOIST · 15/07/2017 16:51

I really would be surprised if I even got an interview but I'm sort of registering an interest for the future.

Makes me cringe though as trying to be all professional and earnest which is so far from the real me and they know it.

StuntNun · 15/07/2017 17:31

Oliver there's no reason you can't eat Quorn on Bootcamp. Just check the carb count as the different products all vary and remember you might need to add more fat to your meal. I'm not a vegetarian but when I was breastfeeding DS4 I had to cut out dairy, eggs and soya as well as carbs and my food was pretty monotonous for a year. Adalind and Oliver some vegetarians include small portions of the lower carb pulses for protein and variety. I have seen lots of lovely vegetarian recipes on low carb recipe websites and blogs, maybe worth a bit of Googling?

C4pinkwheels · 15/07/2017 17:43

Oliver you're facing lots of food challenges so going back to eating quorn sounds sensible for you, please don't go there are lots of people here with health challenges we can all support each other.

Corned beef fritters sound lush.

I'm out shopping with DH for dress to wear to graduation. I feel humiliated, my back is such a strange shape that I had to buy a 16. I just want to look nice for DD.

Veryflummoxed · 15/07/2017 17:49

C4 do we get a dress pic?

StuntNun · 15/07/2017 18:17

Rubbish food day today as DS4 is being super-difficult with the terrible twos in full swing.

Breakfast: two boiled eggs mashed with butter
Snack: 25g dark chocolate
Lunch: strawberries and homemade Greek yogurt made in my new Instant Pot Grin
Dinner: whatever DH is making as it's his turn to do date night

HemanOrSheRa · 15/07/2017 18:20

I'm sure you look fab-U-lous C4 Smile. New dress and swishy hair!

Are you applying for a job 'in house' MOIST?

Hmmmmm. I think you are right Clear. I just need to get motivated. I really hate exercise Sad.

MOIST · 15/07/2017 18:21

Doesn't look rubbish at all.

I appear to have given up food today. Had 4 coffee with cream and a pepperami. Now that's rubbish.

MOIST · 15/07/2017 18:22

Job is within department yes. Which is why I can hear the laughter already. But bollox. They need me. I'd be quite good at it I think. Maybe.

Duckiesprettycrazy · 15/07/2017 18:29

MOIST if Donald Trump can be elected US President, there's hope for anyone applying for a job, qualified or not Grin

MOIST · 15/07/2017 18:36

God yes Duckie. I wish I'd put that in my personal spec bit.

HemanOrSheRa · 15/07/2017 18:36

I've worked in Local Government for 27 years MOIST. I agree it's always tricky applying for a job where the 'management' know you. Also, being interviewed for a job that you are doing and have done for years is a special kind of horror. It's how employees progress and how they retain staff though. You'll be grand! Confidence is key. And spouting the same shite as any external applicant Wink. Think like my DP does. He sees any interview as doing them a favour just by turning up and dazzling them with his wonderfulness Grin.

HemanOrSheRa · 15/07/2017 18:38

I'm getting Trade Union Ads at the top of this page now Grin. Yeah. Power To The People Grin.

AdalindSchade · 15/07/2017 18:41

I think I might look at adding some chick peas or beans to meals. I really miss chick peas. They are pretty carby though!

MOIST · 15/07/2017 18:47

It's NHS and has 'manager' in the job title.

I am so not a manager. Really. I tried it once and was shit at it. But this isn't managing people directly, just stuff. I'd be better at that. As long as i try not to swear at the people i would come in contact with.

HemanOrSheRa · 15/07/2017 18:59

See, I think it's really difficult to move from staff to manager of employees if it's the same staff. It doesn't go down well on both sides. But Stuff is good Smile. Honestly, go for it.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 15/07/2017 19:14

Hmmmmm. I think you are right Clear. I just need to get motivated. I really hate exercise

Heman what do you do at the moment? Anything? Did you used to have some sort of exercise previously?

While I'm convinced that weighybteally is about what foodnwe put in our mouths, the benefits of regular exercise can't be ignored. It doesn't have to be formal, it doesn't have to be expensive, but we do have to move whatever parts of our body we can move, regularly.

Start small. I did. Five minutes on the treadmill at a mile an hour, flat. Quickly got bored and sped it up. Next day same speed but longer time. Felt okaybso next day slightly faster at same duration of previous day. See?

I know not everyone has a treadmill but walking isn't really an indoor thing, there's a whole world out there to walk around in.

Or something really gentle, like Pilates. I've just discovered this and love it. It's low impact, slow, and not daunting, unlike, say, Zumba or something where people can feel intimidated for not knowing the steps or being coordinated enough to execute them. Zumba's great by the way, just not an obvious choice for the Exercise-Averse.

Or sport. Swimming is low impact. Dance classes such as ceroc. Even something naff like (American guy) Richard Simmons' Sweatin' to the Oldies!

Just move, daily.

wombattoo · 15/07/2017 19:15

Go MOIST. We are all behind you Smile

wombattoo · 15/07/2017 19:16

and I meant to add - don't go Oliver. Just reintroduce the Quorn. That doesn't mean you can't stay here for the support Thanks

NamelessEnsign · 15/07/2017 19:22

Good luck Moist! I work in a very different sector but I always have respect for people who put in a solid job application. As others have said, channel a bloke's mentality and show them how luck they are to have you consider the role 😀.

I went for a little run today! My first in weeks; I stopped because of a bad cold. 7 weeks later and I still have a cough and wheeze. Asthma sucks!Angry Made it round about 6k though, muttering the whole time because there wasn't enough phone signal to track my distance.

Now I am having daydreams about low carb cake. I have never really found one that is delicious though!

HemanOrSheRa · 15/07/2017 19:46

Clear thank you so much Smile. I have hated exercise since secondary school. I'm 45. I have found that I like gentle running/jogging over the last few years - I've completed the C25K with success about 4 times Blush. But any excuse not to do it and I take it. I went out on my last 'proper' run a few days before my Dad died in Jan 2016. After that, I cannot stress how much weight I have piled on in a year or so. Stones and stones. I know it will come off and I'm happy that I'm here and alive Smile. I love swimming and funnily enough I'm a strong swimmer. I need to make time for this again. But with DS's activities, my call out duties, Ddog and DP's shifts it's difficult. Excuses. Excuses. I need to make time.

MOIST · 15/07/2017 20:18

Namaste Bitches Halo

ilovecherries · 15/07/2017 20:42

Tonight I sautéed all the old veg in the fridge in a ton of butter, chilli and garlic: courgette, broccoli, asparagus, squeaky beans and a few slices of green pepper. Dropped an egg into the middle when it was nearly cooked. Ate with hot pepper sauce. Very yummy.

GoodBadOrIndifferent · 15/07/2017 21:08

Had a lovely fish curry tonight, from one of the Anjum Anand books:
Fry a few black.peppercorns, cloves and green cardamom in 100ml oil, then add 6-8 chopped eschalon shallots. Fry until soft and browning. Salt and sprinkle tumeric over 2 large white fish fillets.
Blend up 4 tomatoes, 6 garlic cloves and a decent chunk of ginger, add to the pan and cook on a high heat. Add a tablespoon of coriander powder, salt and chilli powder to taste. Cook on a high heart until the oil seperates then add 300 ml of water and simmer. Fry the fish for a couple of minutes on each side then add to the pan. Add a squeeze of lemon, half teaspoon of garam Masala and more salt if needed. Add about 50ml of double cream
Ate this with a whole roasted courgette.
It. Was. Awesome Grin

secretsignal · 15/07/2017 21:15

I wish I could cook Sad
