Week 8 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - two months almost done ...

Morning all

Flowers

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So the finish line is almost in sight. I see from the last thread that some of you have been struggling to stay on track - just three more weeks to go, so stay focused.

That 'it's only one piece of bread/one glass of beer' moment really isn't worth it. Been there, got the t-shirt.

If you're bored with the food - there are two things that could help you. Firstly, think back to the last time you were doing a low calorie/low fat diet - how awful was it to have to scavenge the shelves looking for something low calorie enough, and how often were you eating food that didn't actually taste that nice, but delivered only on the basis of being low calorie? Rice cakes that might as well be polystyrene ceiling tiles, for example!

And then go and read the recipe thread for some inspiration, and find something new to cook. There's nothing on there that's difficult to do.

I'd also say that I see a lot of you are trying to recreate things that are high carb - pizza or bread, for example. These things are very unlikely to be the same, or as nice, as the high carb versions. And all the time you're trying to recreate something you're missing, you're just reminding yourself that you're missing something!

So try not to do this, but focus on things that are beautifully low carb and that you can enjoy for their own taste and benefits.

Here's to a successful week for us all.

@StuntNun I'd be interested to know about what/how to eat at maintainence. Even though I've got a long way to go it's something I've been wondering about. Thanks in advance

Naschkatze · 14/07/2017 21:15

Wow. I'd need to be checking in every hour to keep up with the thread this week.

Moist You look fab, don't know why you're worrying about your arms!

Stunt breast feeding a 6 month old, whatever next?! Hmm

Weird food day, I wasn't hungry and was busy so not many 'meals' going on..
B- creamy coffee
L/S - piece of cheese, cucumber, tea with milk
D - pork belly slices, spinach, cauli cheese.

I got the slow cooker out and gave it a thorough dust for the pork belly. It looked amazing after 7 hours in there but then I tried to crisp it up a bit in the oven and it just dried it out. Not great! What did I do wrong? Grill next time?

BIWI · 14/07/2017 21:21

@Naschkatze - I think for crispy pork belly you need to roast it, in a piece. (Although I could be wrong - I've never tried to cook it in any other way!)

OP posts:
Naschkatze · 14/07/2017 21:30

BIWI maybe the problem was that it was small slices...

@JiminnyCricket are you the expert on pork belly?

BIWI · 14/07/2017 21:33

God, I love roasted pork belly. I could eat it just on its own every night Blush

One thing I've found is that if you have a good Chinese supermarket near you, often you can buy pieces that are much bigger than you can get in a 'normal' supermarket, and much cheaper.

C4 please don't be sad. At least he's still alive, and Mum knows he's still alive, she can still talk to him even if she is concerned where he is and he's a bit scared being in your house. But honestly, that's far better than the alternative. My cat brought in a dead bird last week, just a wee one. I didn't just want to throw him away so lay him on a stone. I know that meant something would have eaten him but I wanted him parents to see him, so they didn't wonder about him. No idea if they did or not.

Spug is a wee darling. Utterly loveable! Hope he continues to thrive under your care, I'm sure he will. Xxx

C4pinkwheels · 14/07/2017 22:31

What a day, finger back in place, after vomiting my breakfast all over the waiting room in A&E, I'm really not good with vomit but I can recommend the combination of being in a wheelchair and vomiting if you ever need to jump the three hour wait.

I do have freshly coloured and cut hair, I can't tell you how good that feels, I have two dress options for graduation on Tuesday, one is possibly too dressy and will be perfect for a wedding in September the other is very tight due to the swelling over the operation site so might become uncomfortable I fear I may have to go shopping with DH tomorrow.

Stunt, BIWI can you please help me with this I have eaten two small meals this week, I haven't felt hungry once, this evening I've managed 1/4 of a homemade beef burger with melted cheese on top and a small salad with an olive oil dressing. I have had to force down every mouthful. I know longer care about the scales not moving I will be glad to get to the end of bootcamp alive after the last few weeks.
I don't think it's venlafaxine because I've taken it before with no side effects at all. I feel bloated, weak, sleepy and pissed off. If I can describe it at all it's as if I've got out of the habit of eating and it's simply not on my radar. I was almost set on toast this morning but I haven't cheated once in the whole of bootcamp, too much dairy at times and about three Atkins bars in emergencies when too poorly to cook. I have had two courses of IV antibiotics and six different oral courses.
I'm considering going back to strict bc rules for the last two weeks with lots of probiotics and absolutely no more infections.

StuntNun · 14/07/2017 22:39

Apologies but I've got bogged down with work this evening and still haven't had dinner yet which is a great NSV because I've been able to do my coaching instead of gnawing my own arm off with hunger. I'll catch up with all the questions tomorrow.

SayrraT · 14/07/2017 22:41

Oh no to the vomiting c4 though I guess if you sicked up your breakfast then it means you've managed to eat something!!

Welcome back wombat, I cannot believe how hot your holiday was, I'd have melted away I think Grin

Right, on all previous BC's I've always posted my food. I've not done that this BC and I don't know why. I am going to start now as I think my meals are getting a bit samey and I'm also doing the thing where I eat individual items rather than meals.

So starting today:

B: nothing, not even coffee
L: 2 chicken drumsticks
D: 2 more chicken drumsticks, mozzarella balls
S: flat peach

OMG Blush I am actually ashamed at how bad that is!! I should and do know better Blush

Tomorrow I am helping judge at a horse competition (was supposed to be competing but horse is not feeling quite right so I've withdrawn) and I'll have to sit in a field for the whole day. Lunch is provided but its a "normal" lunch i.e. sandwiches etc so I will take my own stuff. I'm planning on taking:

lettuce
boiled eggs
pork scratchings
flask with bullion
cheese

Dinner is a hog roast provided by organisers so obviously that's fine I can have the hog with salad.

Veryflummoxed · 14/07/2017 23:08

Welcome back Wombattoo. Hope you had a good time, hbsounds HOT.

Food today
L two boiled eggs, butter, lettuce with mayo, 2 cherry tomatoes.
D bolognaise sauce with cream cheese and cheddar cheese. And green leaves

S some clotted cream.

Probably too much dairy but at one point I was about to order cod, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce so it vitod have been worse and I'm so pleased I realised I was being stupid.

Userwithoutaname · 15/07/2017 00:12

I've been rubbish this week. First period in ages thanks to hrt and really felt it Sad so self medicated with comfort food. Admittedly didn't eat my usual chocolate and crisps, but had peanut butter ... nearly a whole jar! And cream with raspberries. I feel fatter than ever and disgusted with myself.

So ... need to get a grip and koko!

Next week will be better.

New counselling starts next week too ... I've been pretty low recently and need to do something about it. So not all bad, but need to get back on the wagon.

Someone kick me up the bum please!

The problem with these long threads is i don't read them because my phone takes ages to load them, so I'm missing out on the support.

Must do better! [wags finger at self]

Userwithoutaname · 15/07/2017 00:15

I guess I've learnt I need to stay away from peanut butter and cream and fruit!

Grah0SoontobeaFatty · 15/07/2017 00:15

well hello everyone.
having fun? trying to keep up is getting to be a lot of time.

So sorry if miss commenting
Duckies mine does the up and down all day as well weight 208.1
last night carrying extra 2.9 of unprocessed food and fluids this morning.

Oliversmummy If I go to Tenby I have massive asthma attacks if I drink the tap water. ( Family live there and its beautiful beaches so go when I can -- beeer)
the water is filtered over granite and processed. unlike Portsmouth were it is filtered through miles of chalk.

My Sister and I have both had major allergy tests, turn your back into a check board and get the raw ingredients (bit like concentrated herbs).
She was diagnosed as allergic to everything -- until the doctor tested just the scraper. She is allergic to the metal. Silver or gold is ok any alloy and rash all over. Leakage from tins was in the food.

I was to have an series of injections containing all the stuff I am allergic to, to try to kick start an immune response. Unfortunately they jabbed me with someone's who's name was the same as mine except started with a H the first time. Massive swelling told go lie down on the floor don't move. 10 hours later, ok you can go now. No food or water or anything as they were worried I'd just pass out and go into shock. that was the end of that idea.

I would definitely contact these people www.allergy-testing-uk.com/ for help if I was you.

fyi Girl in Canada is allergic to Acorns, mum tried to get 100+ trees chopped down around her house and school because of it.

Some people are allergic to mold spores so it can be some thing very small and is everywhere. BUT at least you will know.

Don't take no for an answer and always threat to take the doctor to court if you later find they didn't treat you properly.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/07/2017 00:38

I would never be out of court if I took a doctor to court every time they made a wrong diagnosis although dp is thinking he might pursue a case. Given he went in excess of 20 times in a 5 week period and before that at least 6 or 7 times in the months before. Each time presenting with classic bowel cancer symptoms, each time asking was it bowel cancer and each time explaining his dad had died from bowel cancer.
The explanations were, he was constipated, he had a hernia, he was stressed.

He was also diagnosed with stress when he lost 7stone in weight over a period of a few of months. He had type 1 diabetes.

I was told I had anorexia and needed psychiatric help, I had stomach ulcers.

I couldn't walk and had a pain in my hip.I was told I needed a new hip and the x ray showed I had arthritis. I had never had an x ray and I had slipped discs

All these took years to finally diagnose. That for me has meant for at least 10 years I have been in constant pain. My allergy to wheat and dairy has meant that for nearly 50 years I was walking around with eczema so bad it has definitely affected my whole life. When you get it all over your face certain occupations can't be considered

SayrraT · 15/07/2017 06:47

I had the oddest dream last night!

I dreamt that my dad was making a taxidermy mole Confused and when I saw it it was inside out. He hadn't stuffed it yet, so I turned it the right way round to show my OH then sat it back down.

The next thing it was running around the place! Except it had stopped being a mole and was actually a teeny tiny t-rex Grin

user at least it was low (ish) carb stuff you ate, don't fee disgusted with yourself. Just get back on track, right now!

Sorry I can't help with allergies oliver but sounds like grah might have some good suggestions.

secretsignal · 15/07/2017 07:22

So impressed by those who slip up then get back on it! Flowers and Star user, plan, plan, plan and have a good day all!

wombattoo · 15/07/2017 07:43

Morning
Sayrra Aren't we supposed to be dreaming of cake and stuff? Moles! That's a new one. Grin

C4 I am not an expert but I think you should consider if BC is the right thing for you right now. You have done amazingly well not to cheat but you have so much more going on for you. Your health is the most important thing and you really must eat. If that means toast, then so be it. You could revisit lchf when your health is more stable.

wombattoo · 15/07/2017 07:46

User try not to be too hard on yourself. Raspberries and cream is not bad. It could have been so much worse.
I am going back to strict bc on Monday. Join me? We will post our food every day to keep accountable. I hope the counselling goes ok Thanks

Veryflummoxed · 15/07/2017 07:48

Ooooohthat was a good one SayrraT. I have to ask, is your dad really a taxidermist?

Veryflummoxed · 15/07/2017 07:58

Hi User although we should be dealing with rather than indulging in the emotional eating I think overeating on the low carb foods is the sensible way to go when it's too hard to contain. At least that way you are not reigniting all the carb cravings and it's much easier to pull back into stricter eating.

I'll happily join you and Wombattoo in some stricter BC and writing up all my foods. The last three weeks I've been so busy (then out again f action) that this has gone out the window for me and though I'm not eating the carbs I'm not really sure how balanced my diet has been and some snacking has crept in.

wombattoo · 15/07/2017 08:05

Thanks Very Prepare to be bored of my food lists. I tend to eat the same things everyday for breakfast and lunch. Takes the thinking out of it.

CodLiverOil556 · 15/07/2017 08:06

Good morning happy (and not so happy) campers.

I'm having a good week...had a massive NSV when I bumped into someone I hadn't seen for ages and she couldn't believe it was me Grin

Also went for breakfast and person I was with couldn't believe I was on a diet as my plate was swimming in fat.

C4 spug is gorgeous and well done you for nursing him back to health.

Can't believe we're near the end but I have one concern that I hope someone can help with...I was due AF on the 6th July but it's been a complete no show any ideas? Not a chance to be up duffed and normally regular as clock work?

BIWI · 15/07/2017 08:25

@C4pinkwheels. I'm getting my big stick out now.

I know that you're very ill, and that you're having a tough time (understatement). But Bootcamp and weight loss should be the last thing on your mind right now.

You need nourishment to heal.

So eat. Eat anything that you can manage, and eat it whenever you feel like it

Please. You are making me feel very bad and I don't want the responsibility of making you feel worse or impeding any recovery - or worse, exacerbating your condition.

BIWI · 15/07/2017 08:27

@ILoveKermit

Any possibility it's the start of the menopause? (Sorry - don't know how old you are!)

This is how it started for me - disappearance of AF and then intermittent reappearance. Probably around when I was 47/8?

OP posts:
CodLiverOil556 · 15/07/2017 08:35

@BIWI could be, I'm only 38 but my mum had early menopause at 39. I must admit I'm not missing it so it's a good thing Grin
