Morning all

Flowers

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So the finish line is almost in sight. I see from the last thread that some of you have been struggling to stay on track - just three more weeks to go, so stay focused.

That 'it's only one piece of bread/one glass of beer' moment really isn't worth it. Been there, got the t-shirt.

If you're bored with the food - there are two things that could help you. Firstly, think back to the last time you were doing a low calorie/low fat diet - how awful was it to have to scavenge the shelves looking for something low calorie enough, and how often were you eating food that didn't actually taste that nice, but delivered only on the basis of being low calorie? Rice cakes that might as well be polystyrene ceiling tiles, for example!

And then go and read the recipe thread for some inspiration, and find something new to cook. There's nothing on there that's difficult to do.

I'd also say that I see a lot of you are trying to recreate things that are high carb - pizza or bread, for example. These things are very unlikely to be the same, or as nice, as the high carb versions. And all the time you're trying to recreate something you're missing, you're just reminding yourself that you're missing something!

So try not to do this, but focus on things that are beautifully low carb and that you can enjoy for their own taste and benefits.

Here's to a successful week for us all.

Oliversmumsarmy - strange thought but it's nothing to do with the water, is it????

(No idea if there is a difference, mind.)

StuntNun · 14/07/2017 15:35

Oliver eggs and soya are really common causes of allergy. If you suspect dairy is a problem then you should consider cutting these out as well. Realistically you should probably try an elimination diet or at the very least a low FODMAP diet. Alternatively have a look at the Weston A. Price Foundation websitee*. Have you been properly investigated for thyroid issues?

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/07/2017 15:38

Well I always have loads of water with meals. If we go to eat out which ever country I always get at least 2 jugs of tap water delivered to the table and thats just for me.
The cola is during the day when we are wandering around Disney or where ever the cola is easier to get a refill than a tapster..

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/07/2017 15:39

or do you mean US water has a slimming effect on me.

Do you think i should get it imported

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 14/07/2017 15:40

I was wondering if there's something in the tap water here that has an impact, rather than how much you actually consume. Probably barking up a tree in the wrong forest, mind!

Oliversmumsarmy · 14/07/2017 15:43

Well it would certainly explain a lot but why would it only effect me. if i can't get a doctor to believe that you can get test for allergies i think saying that London tap water is making me obese might be a stretch too far.

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 14/07/2017 16:03

Och, I know. It was just a far-out thought I had, trying to figure out what could be so different between what you consume here and what you consume in the States. Water seemed the one constant that you'd consume lots of wherever you are. Probably a load of shite, sorry!

You could try a water filter if you wanted to see if that made a difference (but it probably wouldn't so I'm not recommending you waste your money).

Veryflummoxed · 14/07/2017 17:32

StuntNun · 14/07/2017 18:09

My dinner courtesy of McDonalds - a bunless Big Mac! Next time I'm going to get a shaker side salad to add to the box as it's a bit titchy without the bun.

Hello everyone
I am back from my holidays. There has been a slight gain but nothing too major.

It has taken me an age to read through the threads and I am sorry to read that some have been through such a tough time. It would take forever to name check you and the thread has moved on, but I hope things are improving Thanks

MOIST The dress looks fabulous. I can't see anything wrong with your arms.

SashaSashays · 14/07/2017 19:39

Thanks for nice comments about my interview. I spent most of last night being talked back from the ledge.

I know most people don't enjoy interviews but they really do bring out all my hang ups. I'd love to be like DH and almost feel like I'm doing people a favour by agreeing to meet with them, but I tend to be so anxious and being an introvert, just completely retreat into myself. Makes me come across as having zero personality when I'm actually quite a vibrant character when you get to know me.

Felt majorly down about having to interview and all I wanted to do was come home and pick my way through a box of Guylian while watching my SATC boxset. Emotional eating is my nemesis, which I have actually managed to conquer today! Stuck to my egg fast, sans coffee as didn't want to be feeling more jittery.

I've had a NSV as I wore a blouse today that I could barely button up a few weeks ago. I did have a scale victory but I'm waiting to see at the end of the egg fast how 'real' it is, or if it all goes back on.

Tomorrow have a busy day planned so have some scrambled eggs in tupperware and am making fathead pizza in the evening.

Sad to hear others are struggling with so much, and much more than I ever am. I don't think its that bad to 'cheat' if you've resisted so long and get back at it after.

C4pinkwheels · 14/07/2017 19:59

My heart is shattered into a million pieces right now, I have leaking eyes too.

Spug is in the bathroom, it's nice and cool and I'm close by to feed him and tend to his wounds.

Spug's mummy is in the apple tree outside the bathroom window and they are chirping to each other, it's so so sad. I can't put him out I've had a chance to check him out properly and there are some puncture wounds from Elsa the pervert bird murderer so he needs pain relief and a full course of antibiotics because goodness knows where her mouth was before that. He also has a bit of a floppy leg which may just be some nerve damage or severe pain from the puncture which is at the top of the leg.
The eye is loads better, he can open it today and he's eating really well

But look at that face only a mother could love that face, and a Grandma of course

Welcome back wombattoo! Did you have a lovely time?

OP posts:
Oliversmumsarmy · 14/07/2017 20:09

He's beautiful.

My very first cat had no interest in birds. He was an older rescue cat and could understand every word. He would sit outside with the birds and once ran in to tell me that a little one had fallen from his nest. I went out to find ddog standing guard.

wombattoo · 14/07/2017 20:13

Hi BIWI. I had a lovely time thank you. It was a 'bit' hot (50 degrees) for the first week which was not fun, but a much more comfortable 39/40 degrees last week Grin

BIWI · 14/07/2017 20:16

@Oliversmumsarmy - that all sounds really tough Sad

But I'm not really surprised. GPs have so little training in food/nutrition, I'm not surprised they know nothing about allergies.

I'm afraid my knowledge is exhausted, so I can't help you either, which really pains me.

Too many pork scratchings Envy (not envy). I did this with Taboo in my yoof. I fear I may never eat another.

BIWI · 14/07/2017 20:20

50 degrees?!

Where were you?!

OP posts:
StuntNun · 14/07/2017 20:21

Questions request... On some Bootcamps we have a separate questions thread for people to ask for more information without having to worry about their post getting lost in the general chat. Now that the Bootcamp threads are less busy does anyone have any questions about low carbing?

I always recommend doing your own research on the Interwebs but it can become difficult to work out where there is real evidence for e.g.
Low carbing affecting thyroid function.
Water retention and the "whoosh" effect.
How to eat at weight maintenance.
Whether you need carbs for endurance or intense exercise.
If eating low carb can lower your risk of dementia and cancer.

I have spent a lot of time researching the science around low carb and assessing the available evidence so if anyone had any questions then please do ask.

wombattoo · 14/07/2017 20:26

Thanks Stunt

BIWI I was in Santorini, Greece. At 11pm the temp was still 39. DH said the night breeze was like a hot hairdryer blowing on him. Grin

BIWI · 14/07/2017 20:29

OMG! When I was in Australia in January the temperature was in the mid 30s, and that was bad enough Grin

I love hot weather, but only when there's a swimming pool to hand. Not an option when you're trying to sleep.

wombattoo · 14/07/2017 20:40

Thank god for air conditioning!!

To bring myself back to the point of the thread - I gained about 6lbs, mostly alcohol fluid.

My plan to get back on track is back to strict BC rules for the remainder.
On Sunday I will be roasting some chicken to put in the fridge to make chicken salad for lunches and I am planning on making some mayo.
I'm going to have to find the recipe for the fathead pizza. The picture posted upthread looked amazing.

ilovecherries · 14/07/2017 20:52

In my mission to put the HF back into LCHF, I've just had salmon fried in butter with halumi fried in the pan juices, all served with spinach, asparagus and home made hollandaise sauce. I finally feel properly full today.

BIWI · 14/07/2017 20:54

@StuntNun thanks for suggesting that, I think that's brilliant.

One thing I'm interested in (especially as I'm in my late 50s) is the dementia thing. I've seen Alzheimer's Disease referred to as Type 3 Diabetes - the suggestion being that a high carb diet might be implicated in this.

From your research, what can you say on this?

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 14/07/2017 20:58

I'm interested in the dementia link as well. Thankfully I have no family history of it, and both my parents at 85 are still as sharp as tacks. But my mil had Alzheimer's from her late 50s and I do worry about my husband (currently 60 and fine, but...)
