Week 8 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - two months almost done ...

Morning all

Flowers

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So the finish line is almost in sight. I see from the last thread that some of you have been struggling to stay on track - just three more weeks to go, so stay focused.

That 'it's only one piece of bread/one glass of beer' moment really isn't worth it. Been there, got the t-shirt.

If you're bored with the food - there are two things that could help you. Firstly, think back to the last time you were doing a low calorie/low fat diet - how awful was it to have to scavenge the shelves looking for something low calorie enough, and how often were you eating food that didn't actually taste that nice, but delivered only on the basis of being low calorie? Rice cakes that might as well be polystyrene ceiling tiles, for example!

And then go and read the recipe thread for some inspiration, and find something new to cook. There's nothing on there that's difficult to do.

I'd also say that I see a lot of you are trying to recreate things that are high carb - pizza or bread, for example. These things are very unlikely to be the same, or as nice, as the high carb versions. And all the time you're trying to recreate something you're missing, you're just reminding yourself that you're missing something!

So try not to do this, but focus on things that are beautifully low carb and that you can enjoy for their own taste and benefits.

Here's to a successful week for us all.

I like the group on here. A couple of times I've been on threads which have moved away from MN on to FB and the ones on here stopped and I wouldn't like that to happen. This thread is not only important for posters but also for lurkers. I also love these threads when new people join as they have so much positivity at the beginning and give me renewed energy!

YoLoZammo · 13/07/2017 10:37

I can do Birmingham!! It wouldn't be right without C4 there and she has potentially the most difficulty travelling so let's do the Midlands!

How about we ask MN to delete the current BC threads or at least the last two where most personal stuff has been shared. We can put weeks 9 and 10 and any follow-on threads on the 30 days only section so at least they will disappear after that. And we stay on MN. Good idea?

StuntNun · 13/07/2017 10:44

C4 you should absolutely go off-piste if you think that will help. I always say that when you're unwell then you have to put your recovery first. For example after any GI upset the first thing most people want to eat is toast. My suggestion is to eat foods that aren't going to make you subsequently fall off the wagon - so no sweet stuff like cake or doughnuts, and no trigger foods that you find it difficult to resist, e.g. chips. If you can, go for the healthy carbs: potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruit, higher carb veggies, rice, wholemeal bread. That will make it easier to come back to Bootcamp when your body is ready.

ilovecherries · 13/07/2017 10:48

I think BWIW has a proven model that works. Thread deletion/30 day threads etc are a move away from that. People can obviously ask for their own posts to be deleted, but I think removing threads is different.

AdalindSchade · 13/07/2017 10:57

I have been part of a long running mumsnet quiche that had to go to Facebook for privacy reasons. We are all still mates and do use Facebook but it's very different to posting on here. I would be happy to join a secret Facebook group but wouldn't want it to replace the mumsnet threads.

WaaWaaWaaa · 13/07/2017 11:04

Morning guys

cant really commit to a meet up I'm afraid. With the girls and everything. Wouldnt mind a FB group but wouldn't want to "leave" the threads on here either.

B - None
L - Salad with squid and maybe some hog roast too (of course just the pork)
D - chicken sausages with summat...

There's an event on the business park I work on Free hog roast... well it would be RUDE not too eh?

Have a good day X

JiminnyCricket · 13/07/2017 11:09

I like the way things are and bootcamp has been running for a long time before we came along and will hopefully run for a long long time after this one finishes :) I disagree that any threads should be removed etc, if you're worried get your posts deleted.

I work in digital marketing so have an inside view of data protection etc.. I'll just say I will happily post my face/ info about myself on this thread and any other, it's all together not that interesting Grin

I do think though the reason we're happy to talk about stuff here is because it IS anonymous, you lose that on other parts of the internet I think.

I do think the focus of this BC has moved away from food and diet a bit. I'd like to get back to that if we can, that's ultimately why we're all here and although the context of our lives when talking about what we've eaten is really important, I think we all need a re-focus and a kick up the bum to stick this out in the last couple of weeks Grin

ASDismynormality · 13/07/2017 11:15

jiminny. How did 2 x gym sessions go yesterday? I'm going 3 days in a row this week and feel like I will be pushing it a bit!

secretsignal · 13/07/2017 11:32

Aaargh! I have one day not keeping up with the thread and it's gone crazy again! Fortunately I can't sew and have no inclination to and have no pets so feel unqualified to comment on most of yesterday's goings-on, other than to add some Flowers for Dust. My news is that I survived the avalanche of carbs that is the Great Yorkshire Show in tact, usually a symphony of pork pies, sausage rolls, ice cream and hot sugared donuts. I am feeling very smug proud, having spent a full 12 hours there on just a bag of pork scratching (of which there were literally mountains) and the middle of a posh cheeseburger Halo

styledilemma · 13/07/2017 11:36

I've lost my mojo a little bit and need a kick up the bum!

I've haven't eaten anything I shouldn't have, but I'm at that awkward stage where I'm more or less at the weight I want to be and I feel a bit adrift.
'What now?' Confused

Do I carry on with this woe and never have another slice of cake/chips/biscuits/icecream/bread ever again? Sad
Or
Do I do a hybrid version?
LC in the week then eat the same as everybody else on the weekend?
This is the stage where I'm at danger of binging and I don't want that to happen.

We need a How To Maintain Your Weight Bootcamp! Smile

AdalindSchade · 13/07/2017 11:37

Ok!
B- scrambled egg with butter and cheese, bulletproof coffee
L- cheddar and hard boiled egg salad (avocado too hard still :( )
S- 2 squares very dark choc
D- sautéed cabbage with butter and cream, boiled broccoli and butter, maybe a veggie sausage or fried tofu
D- yoghurt and mascarpone with a strawberry cut into little bits

Weight has been static for 2 weeks. I'm going to try not egg fasting but eating mostly eggs at the weekend to see what happens

prettybird · 13/07/2017 11:45

Back to food: just had a lovely snack of slices of cheddar, spread with butter and marmite. Smile

TMI alert: does anyone else judge whether or not they've been having enough water by the colour of their pee? I usually make myself have 2 glasses of water when I go to the loo which them comes a self perpetuating activity Wink - but if my pee is anything other than very pale and odourless Blush I then have a 3rd glass.

I'm currently drinking 3 glasses after having cycled into town and back for a breast screening appointment (I'd forgotten how uncomfortable mammograms are** Hmm); had to cycle a bit harder than planned to get there as I'd forgetten to pick up the lock (dh had used it yesterday) and dh had to drive down to where I'd got (about a 3rd of the way) to give it to me Blush - so ended up sweating more than I'd expected.

Bibs2014 · 13/07/2017 11:46

I went for a run last night! I thought of you c4 and it kept me going.

whyhastherumgone · 13/07/2017 12:05

Hello everyone, I've been lurking around this part of the forum for a while but not posted yet. I've been low carbing for only a week but already feeling a difference and posted on the forum earlier this week as I felt like it was too good to be true so I couldn't be doing it right!

@Biwi set me straight and so here I am, introducing myself. I have about a stone to lose ideally, and have never really been able to make diets work for me before. I had a MC in December and struggled with weight since then, so am now trying to sort myself out.

So far, my daily food consists of [something like]
avocado and eggs for breakfast
homemade tuna fishcakes [with goats cheese, onion, herbs etc] and big salad
Garlic chicken with mushrooms/leeks sauteed in butter, spinach, creamed celeriac with cream, butter and dijon mustard stirred in

So far I haven't been hungry at all so haven't been snacking - hopefully that's a good sign! Tonight I'm making shepherds pie with cauliflower mashed with cheese and cream instead of potato.

One question I do have, I have to drink lacto free milk/cream [a little bit of cheddar weirdly doesn't affect me so I have that now and then] - will this be affecting my low carbing at all?

You're all very inspiring, have been reading through all the threads, and the recipe thread is amazing!

styledilemma · 13/07/2017 12:07

Welcome Rum Flowers
Sounds like you're doing great!

OldBooks · 13/07/2017 12:10

Thank you to whoever suggested the microwave scrambled eggs. This morning in a big hurry I shoved eggs, cheese and butter in a Tupperware. Just popped it in the work microwave and voila - it's not going to win any culinary awards but a very passable meal for eating at my desk!

The biscuits in the first pic are DH's idea of work lunch Hmm

ASD gym was fab thanks, I'm sore today though!

cathyandclare · 13/07/2017 12:19

secretsignal we had Wagyu burgers from the Yorkshire show last night ( bought by DD) and they were amaaaazing.

Apart from that I've been sticking to the eggy stuff and my thighs seems to have gone weirdly lumpy and squishy, so hoping I'm on for a woosh.

B: Egg muffin
L: Out with a friend so something meat and salady
S: Leek frittata

PlymouthMaid1 · 13/07/2017 12:30

A good week so far - two colleagues asked me if I had lost weight so it must be showing :) No students yesterday as we had a training day so that made it easier to drink gallons of water and I only had halloumi, cucumber and 2 strawberries at the staff BBQ and more water not wine or fruit juice.

Will attempt to attach a pic of my dog boy and the quilt I made for eldest daughter's wedding present. I haven't quilted since as I was all quilted out and I have been knitting and crocheting instead but if it rains in my annual leave next month, I have some unfinished patchwork ops to get on with.

I've just picked up a healthy eating leaflet in the library. It has the usual healthy plate etc, and then this

^Carbohydrates should form 60% of your calorie intake. As well as providing energy, and being essential 'brain food', carbohydrates also have a thermogenic effect. They actually increase calorie burning, and cause your body to burn more calories every time you eat.

On the other hand, If your diet is high in fat, the fat is put faster into storage. To Make things worse, fat is much harder to take out of your existing fat stores and be used as energy. So while carbs use 23 percent of the calories you eat to store carbohydrates, fat uses less than 3%^

Then it goes on to talk about pasts, rice, bread, skimmed milk and low fat spread. But WTF does any of that actually mean

ilovecherries · 13/07/2017 12:44

Italic fail.

ilovecherries · 13/07/2017 12:51

Your dog is gorgeous, Plymouth. Is he a border collie? Our neighbours have a russet and white one, I just lust after him, he's so lovely. Love the quilt as well. My mum is an excellent quilter, and she's always trying to interest me, but I just dont have the patience. Love the end result though.

Giraffeski · 13/07/2017 12:54

That sounds bonkers @ilovecherries
Were there any references on there?!

C4pinkwheels · 13/07/2017 12:57

Whyhas welcome, sorry about your MCFlowers I love the sound of your fishcakes

Bibs thank you for taking me on a run

I think there is definitely an appetite for a separate FB group where we can keep it private and share more personal stuff. But totally agree that we stay on here and continue our week 10 thread that way we can keep the food, LCHF info and support here and have somewhere else to share photos and more detailed family stuff.

PlymouthMaid1 · 13/07/2017 13:10

Ilovecherries - he is a springer spaniel-collie cross. We got him from the rescue after I lost my lovely cocker spaniel. He is a handsome boy.
