Week 8 - Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - two months almost done ...

Morning all

Flowers

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness once more

So the finish line is almost in sight. I see from the last thread that some of you have been struggling to stay on track - just three more weeks to go, so stay focused.

That 'it's only one piece of bread/one glass of beer' moment really isn't worth it. Been there, got the t-shirt.

If you're bored with the food - there are two things that could help you. Firstly, think back to the last time you were doing a low calorie/low fat diet - how awful was it to have to scavenge the shelves looking for something low calorie enough, and how often were you eating food that didn't actually taste that nice, but delivered only on the basis of being low calorie? Rice cakes that might as well be polystyrene ceiling tiles, for example!

And then go and read the recipe thread for some inspiration, and find something new to cook. There's nothing on there that's difficult to do.

I'd also say that I see a lot of you are trying to recreate things that are high carb - pizza or bread, for example. These things are very unlikely to be the same, or as nice, as the high carb versions. And all the time you're trying to recreate something you're missing, you're just reminding yourself that you're missing something!

So try not to do this, but focus on things that are beautifully low carb and that you can enjoy for their own taste and benefits.

Here's to a successful week for us all.

C4 Jeez, I hope baby is ok. You must be due some luck.

What has struck me about talking to different people about diets etc is that no one seems to grasp that different things will work for different people. Low cal / low fat doesn't work for me, it makes me miserable. LCHF is perfect for me. Similarly, one of my good friends has done really well on Slimming World, lost 6st and has easily kept it off ever since. She tried LCHF to lose her holiday pounds for a couple of months and she felt awful. Everyone evangelises about their way, precisely because it works so well for them, but doesn't take into account that we're all different. That's where the arguments come from. I don't bother discussing it now, or I listen to what the others have to say without contributing. I know it's good for me, so I'm sticking to it!

Food today:
B - scrambled eggs with naice ham
L - celery with the last of the pate and garlic cream cheese (can you tell we're trying to run the fridge down before going on holiday!)
D - will be chicken thighs & salad at work

I accidentally bought an Instant Pot in the Amazon Prime Day sale. What should I make first?

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/07/2017 14:37

BIWI sorry I haven't mentioned eating more fat as I know I can put olive oil on stuff and that should help. I was more concerned with my protein intake if I follow recommendations to cut out the soya and the Quorn. I have a slab of tofu draining as we speak. I also bought some smoked tofu. I am going to try that this evening and leave my other tofu draining over night in the fridge.

Other than oils is there anything else that adds fat that I haven't thought of.

AdalindSchade · 11/07/2017 14:41

Avocados, butter, nuts?

JiminnyCricket · 11/07/2017 14:44

toddles off to amazon to look at instant pots....

ASDismynormality · 11/07/2017 14:45

hippa I feel the same, we all think our diet is the the best because it works for us but LCHF is the best Wink

I love my instant pot! It makes really good pulled pork nomnompaleo.com/post/111934821818/pressure-cooker-kalua-pig - works best with pork shoulder unlike the recipe I've never used bone in pork.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/07/2017 14:47

Oh yes. Definitely the kahlua pork in the Instant Pot. I cook pork belly in mine before crisping it up in the oven. I LOVE my Instant Pot. I use it pretty much every day.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/07/2017 14:49

On the subject of Amazon Prime Day - do I need an Echo Dot? Hmmmm. My purchasing finger is poised and ready.

ASDismynormality · 11/07/2017 14:51

Heman. We have an echo dot, it's creepy as it's constantly listening! It's unplugged and I don't see any need to ever turn it back on - thankfully DH got it free from his work.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/07/2017 14:58

Ooh really ASD. Pah. I really wanted to be down wiv the kids. Mind you there's not much to listen to here. Me singing to my pets, shouting PICK UP YOUR STUFF to DS and muttering under my breath to DP Grin. That's about it!

ASDismynormality · 11/07/2017 15:01

I feel really bad for being so negative about it. DH is just a bit paranoid about 'computers listening ' - probably due to his line of work! It was fun at the start but we dont miss it now it's unplugged.

HemanOrSheRa · 11/07/2017 15:12

It may have a problem with my accent anyway ASD Grin.

Userwithoutaname · 11/07/2017 15:14

Thanks Clear I'll have a look.

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/07/2017 15:23

After told to steer clear of soya just realised that tofu is soya.

So i am back to square one with protein.

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/07/2017 15:27

hippa My friend swears by SW she has done amazingly well on it and it works for her but I only lasted a few days. I blew up like a balloon, was in real pain and couldn't stop farting

Userwithoutaname · 11/07/2017 15:43

Has anyone successfully frozen cream to have as a sort of icecream with berries? I really fancy some but suspect it'll go hard and crystally?

ilovecherries · 11/07/2017 15:44

Oh, I bought an IP last night as well, Stunt. All excited about it as I've been dithering about having one for about 18 months, after a thread on here one Xmas. What accessories do I need with it, those of you that have one?

ilovecherries · 11/07/2017 15:46

Herman, I nearly bought an echo dot as well. I quite like gadgets. But even I couldn't convince myself it was worth it - and I already keep blobs of blu tac on all the webcams unless I'm using them, so decided I was perhaps a tad paranoid to enjoy it.

ASDismynormality · 11/07/2017 15:48

ilovecherries. The only additional equipment I bought was a spare bowl too make it easier when cooking rice in addition to curry/stew.

WaaWaaWaaa · 11/07/2017 15:52

Have we all just been over to amazon en masse? Just bought a bathroom bin, liners and a loo brush.... I've also bought sales clothes bargains for the girls....

MUST STOOOOOOOP. Step away from the computer...

ilovecherries · 11/07/2017 15:55

Thanks, ASD. Have ordered the bowl and a glass lid. And a spare sealing ring because I use to have how the ring in my stove top one used to stink of curry. Not that I've used the stove top one for years. A nasty accident with a batch of chickpeas and a newly decorated kitchen made me swear off pressure cookers for life. I might have to rejoin the FB instantpot group, but I found no it rather...strange, shall we say. Complete evangelists with a predeliction for using condensed soup as a sauce when I was last on it. Anyway, it arrives tomorrow. Goodness knows where I will store the damn thing though. I do like kitchen equipment...

ASDismynormality · 11/07/2017 16:00

ilovecherries. You reminded me that I'm left the instant pot group on Facebook after a huge argument- can't even remember what it was about (I wasn't involved) but I do remember the people were crazy!

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 11/07/2017 16:06

User yes I have half whipped up some double cream and crushed strawberries and raspberries, added it and added chopped up berries too, then frozen it. It was flipping amazing.

Oliver you might be ok with soya. You can't not eat anything apart from nuts!!

What's an Instant Pot?

JiminnyCricket · 11/07/2017 16:14

oof.

I'm regretting the no diazepam decision. Currently having a teeny tiny melt down in the work loos Hmm

Just I've ran hour to go until home time, distract me with your food from today, love reading menus: go!
