I know! Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? Wink

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation!

Remember, week 4 is, like week 3, a time when weight loss tends to be pretty slow, if not non-existent. KOKO and persevere, and things will get going again soon.

But not if you cheat! Whilst many of you have been very honest about your transgressions, just remember that this WOE is not a very forgiving one. It's not like a calorie-controlled diet, where you can compensate for one 'bad' day with a 'good' one. As some of you have already found out the hard way!

How the hell do I get through a cold whilst LCing??????

Felt absolutely awful last night, and really, really, really wanted to have some (lots) of the many biscuits DP has lying around the place. I didn't, but it was a struggle. I did have a slice of proper bread (not nice as it had lots of pepper in, and I just wanted a 'normal' slice, but it did help me not enjoy it and thus not want any more) but since I have two more days to eat gluten it wasn't so bad. But it's the fact that it was the first time I've really had a craving since starting this woe and it didn't make me feel any better.

I also had some strawberries and an apple, but I did want some chocolate. Nearly gave in, but then realised the chocolate I have is nice chocolate, and since I wouldn't be able to taste it anyway it would be a waste. But I'm dreading this evening.

Am totally ignoring the carb count on the Knorr chicken noodle soup - couldn't be bothered making anything for lunch, and it really is the food of the gods. And as for the sugar count of Strepsils and other throat sweets - on the one hand it's appalling how hard it is to avoid, on the other, I don't care. And if anyone tries to come between me and the sugary delight that is Night Nurse - well just don't!!!!!

But if anyone does have any tips let me know. Please!!!!!

C4pinkwheels · 13/06/2017 10:09

The thing I'm missing most of all is fruit, I normally eat lots of fruit and it was virtually all I ate in hospital for seven weeks along with homemade soup that visitors brought in for me. I don't do hospital food, it's rubbish and nobody can get better eating the crap they dish up in hospital.

cathyandclare · 13/06/2017 10:16

Well done on 5lb C4 I think it's easy to get despondent at this stage, but I've found that with time you miss carbs stuff less and less. Toasted flaked almonds and berries with yog are an ok swap for muesli when the eggs get too much.

Still not weighed here, I think I may need another day or so to make up for the boozy weekend. I'm doing loads of exercise and haven't cheated, just too much BCL stuff. I could literally eat my bodyweight in nuts and I'm in a healthy BMI, so I just can't afford all those calories, even at LCHF.

WaaWaaWaaa · 13/06/2017 10:25

Right - back on it full force today. Only got till Sat/Sunday to get another few lbs off.

B- Creamy coffee
L - Feta Salad
D - roast chicken, vile veggie bake and maybe some roasted courgette.

Water - smashing it! Nearly 2L down already. KOKO

JiminnyCricket · 13/06/2017 10:35

TimeIhadaNameChange Urgh colds are a nightmare generally, I had one in my first week so couldnt tell if it was an actual cold or carb flu!

My advice would be take lemsip capsules etc not the drinks, they do the same job just without the sugar.

Also, if you've been doing this WOE properly the last 4 weeks, a carb binge now is going to make you feel a hundred million times worse so you're better off eating lots of leafy greens, good quality meats and fats to give the rest of your body a break while your immune system focuses on the infection.

For soup you can make tomato soup with mascapone and have it in the freezer. Loads of fat in it for energy while you're sick and very comforting. Also, there's a few covent garden/cully and scully soups that are really low carb and heavenly. Broccoli and stilton is a personal favourite.

There's no such thing as an essential carb, you dont need them and they are not going to make you feel any better. You can get as much vitC from green leafy veg than you can from an orange, but without the sugar. Squeeze lemon juice into hot water for VitC too without the added sugar, add mint leaves and it's lovely as a honey and lemon alternative.

Strepsils etc don't cure colds, all they do is numb your throat for the time you're eating the strepsil. The effect wears off after 20 minutes or so rendering them essentially useless. The sugar in them is going to give you a headache if you're fat adapted so they'll make you feel worse.

Finally and above all, just be kind to your body. GIve it fuel, don't pack it full of junk under the assumption it will make you feel better, it wont. Now more than ever you need your diet to be clean, calorie dense and full of nutrients to help you recover naturally :)

wombattoo · 13/06/2017 10:37

C4 I won't repeat what other posters have said, but you have done amazingly well under difficult circumstances. You need to cut yourself some slack and think of the positives that you have achieved Thanks
I also used to eat an awful lot of fruit but realised that it just bloated my stomach - as though fermenting! The most astounding thing I discovered after starting this woe was how I could instantly taste if I ate anything that had sugar/sweetners in. My taste buds have changed so much. I pinched a grape from the bowl last week (DH's fruit) and it was like putting a sugar cube in my mouth. Yuk.
I hope you decide to stick with it, you are a valuable poster on these threads.

wombattoo · 13/06/2017 10:38

Oh and Time - I have no real advice, but sorry you are feeling so poorly Thanks

C4pinkwheels · 13/06/2017 10:47

Thanks wombat I'm going to stick around because I want to lose weight, I hate being fat. I'm trying to look at the positives, I'm lucky because I never really get hungry so my cravings are just that.

It really gives me a boost to hear people say that I'm a valued member of the team.

Giraffeski · 13/06/2017 10:50

154.4 today (forgot to weigh yesterday) which means a loss of 2.4 lb. I can only assume my carby twatdom of last week will catch up with me next week, I have felt so horrible the last few days. Sunday morning I woke up with a migraine and I have felt just generally crap ever since. So KOKO and I have been good since Saturday!
Yesterday:
B-creamy coffee
L- homemade guacamole and celery/cucumber sticks, few parmesan crisps (teaspoon of grated parmesan in bottom of silicone cupcake cases, microwave 30 secs at a time. Yum.)
T- fried jerk seasoned whiting, stir fried broccoli and sugar snap peas with butter. DH and DD had a mango salsa and black rice, I had extra broccoli)
No snacks, lots of water. A few black coffees. House stinks of fish today hmm

Today:
B: scrambled egg and asparagus fried in butter, creamy coffee
L: maybe nothing, maybe a salad. Not sure.
T: chicken tacos (lettuce taco)

JiminnyCricket · 13/06/2017 10:58

Menu for today:

B: Coconut Coffee
L: Thai green chicken soup (Tesco own brand, yummy!), antipasti pot (mini chorizo sausage, smoked cheddar cubes and sundried tomato) and a coconut coffee probably later in the afternoon.
D: Slow cooked lamb neck fillet done with a leek, rosemary, garlic and mint Grin, will eat with roasted broccoli.

Macros: 73% fat, 8% carb (22g) and 19% protein :)

AdalindSchade · 13/06/2017 11:41

I need to remember I'm in week 5 since I started a week before you guys so I have so far followed the 1-2 loss, 3-4 plateau pattern. Going to try to change thing s up this week. My plan is -
Just creamy coffee for breakfast
Try to avoid cheese at lunch (avocados not ripe today though so I have feta)
Try some new things at dinner, I bought a spiraliser and found courgettes. Also bought swede which I love mashed but going to try making fries.
Weigh my yoghurt and limit to 100g day
Avoid nuts.

AdalindSchade · 13/06/2017 11:44

And thinking about the positives of this woe that are not scales related
I am easily and happily ignoring chocolates and cakes lying around the office
I am not hungry in that horrible gnawing way. Right now I feel like I could eat but no rumbling.
I wake up with my stomach comfortable and normal feeling, not bloated and sore
I am eating vegetables and salad for 2 meals every day
My skin is looking better

The best thing for me is ignoring the sweets. I'm a sugar addict usually and I sort of feel like I did when I gave up smoking with Allen Carr. Like I think of eating sugar but remember that I don't actually want to and I actually believe that. I really hope it sticks.

nekobus · 13/06/2017 11:48

C4 your posts are really inspiring and make me smile too, you are doing amazingly well!

And jiminny your posts have made me go back on the blood donation website and look for my first appointment! I'm 0- so I know it's needed.

Mmm flax bread I've missed you...

ilovecherries · 13/06/2017 12:03

NSV (I think!!). Met a friend for coffee this morning (fasting, so all I had was black coffee). Haven't seen her for maybe 8 weeks. Her first words on seeing me 'omg, you've had Botox! And fillers! You look amazing!' I've never had either of those things, ever Grin. Although my skin IS looking pretty damn good for my age, even if I do say so myself.

thenightsky · 13/06/2017 12:15

Stayed the same for the third week in a row. Only myself to blame (curry with a bit of rice and a bit of naan) Wine ++

TheWayOfTheWorld · 13/06/2017 12:17

Wow, a lot to catch up on here!

C4, I echo what others have said. "Only" 5lbs? That's flipping amazing giving everything you are having to deal with, you are being too hard on yourself. As others have said, that adds up to a lot off over the course of the next year. And the best bit (I hope) is that generally you are able to eat delicious food!

I've knocked off 4lbs in boot camp so far and I've been to do exercise and everything - but I am chuffed with that Smile

And Jiminny, what a fantastic thing you are doing with the platelet donation. Star

B: fasting
L: spinach, avocado, mozzarella and tomato salad with lots of garlic oil; creamy coffee
D: either chicken panfried with Parmesan and loads of veg (mushroom, spinach, broccoli) or spaghetti Bol with cauliflower rice.

I also have a question about flax bread - the day I made it it tasted quite nice. I then stored it in the fridge and when I had some the next day it had a very unpleasant fishy taste to it - has anyone else found this? I'm wondering whether I should freeze it straight away...

achangeisgonnacome · 13/06/2017 12:18

Logging in food for today:

B: some ham and a handful of tomatoes

L: Greek yoghurt

D: will be gammon and eggs probably or chicken and vegetables (depends on who's in for dinner with me).

S: so far had one mug of coffee and one of tea

AdalindSchade · 13/06/2017 12:20

I've just booked a blood donation appointment too. Thanks jiminy

wombattoo · 13/06/2017 12:23

ilove - that is indeed a great NSV. Envy Smile

Naschkatze · 13/06/2017 12:37

C4 You've done brilliantly! But I can understand the frustration Flowers*
*
I'm a bit envious of all of you saying you don't miss/crave/get tempted by the sugary treats. I definitely do. Maybe this WOE isn't for me. I considered giving up completely this morning after less than 4 hours sleep; I just wanted all the carbs. I'm determined to do the 10 weeks though. I do feel better on this WOE - more stable, less hungry but I do also feel a bit deprived! Because I want the cake/biscuits/chocolate! Grin

Today:
B - 2 scrambled eggs, mashed avocado, half a tomato
L - Chicken alfredo with courgetti. Thanks cooking for the idea for using up leftover chicken.
D - Roasted veg (courgette, aubergine, some peppers) with cauliflower 'cous cous'.
Probably some yoghurt/cream and a few strawberries. Or might try to make some dark chocolate truffles...

Veryflummoxed · 13/06/2017 12:53

Naschkatze at the moment I'm finding it easy to resist temptation. I know this won't always be so though. Sometimes it feels like the switching on and off of a switch and I often don't know what causes it. I don't know but I can imagine that you are in a different place from the rest of (with the breast feeding) and will be tempted more easily. I expectStunt or someone with bf /LC experience will be along to give more advice. Well done for KOKO.

PlymouthMaid1 · 13/06/2017 13:02

weird lunch today as dont fancy salad for the umpteenth work lunch so broc and stilton soup, an avocado and two babybel crisps. work are taling about popping to Wetherspoons tonight but may only have a drink as cant think of anything on the menu which wouldn't screw up lch (I dont eat meat) and really not in the mood for salad.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 13/06/2017 13:11

Meals today:
B- ff yogurt with a sprinkling of pecans
L- LivLife bread - 1 slice with Boursin, olives and Gouda cheese
D - haven't decided yet. Last couple of days I haven't been hungry at all in the evenings. May end up being a 16:8 day.

GoodBadOrIndifferent · 13/06/2017 13:31

Naschkatse i remember how hard-core the bread feeding carb cravings are, you're doing brilliantly to be low carbing!
I've just managed level 1 of the 30 day shred for the second time. I was too sore you try it again since Thursday Blush
I find swearing at Jillian helps a lot!

StuntNun · 13/06/2017 13:49

GoodBad I'm a big fan of the thread but I always wondered what "Don't just phone it in" means?! I only do level 1 as I think level 2 is rubbish so instead I use heavier weights and add weights to the aerobic exercise and stick with level 1.

Nasch lack of sleep raises cortisol levels which increases insulin leaving you hungrier than usual. When I was breastfeeding I definitely had to have dark chocolate daily. It must contain some essential nutrient for milk production. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding DS4 I didn't need the chocolate in the same way.

C4 when I lost weight in 2013 I was left with a very saggy tummy but it did shrink back more over the following months. Exercise helps to make everything look better by toning up the muscles, hopefully you'll be able to be more active in the future. I think you're amazing for losing weight with all you're going through healthwise, keep up the good work.

I can't remember who recommended the garlic pepper by I finally got hold of some and OMG scrambled eggs are transformed by it. Thanks for the tip.
