I don't think that BIWI has managed to post a new thread so I'll do this one.

I don't have the wise words of BIWI so I'll just say that by now you should be more in the swing of lcing so just keep it up and remember, only 1 week until bclite.

Hopefully you all have a successful weigh-in but if not, don't be disheartened. Post for some help and we will do our best.

Morning everyone. I haven't posted for a few days so I've just caught up with the thread.

I need to post my meals from the past few days to keep track so apologies for long post.

Thursday
B: coffee and cream
L: scrambled eggs and avocado
D: tuna mayo, little gem, cucumber

Friday
B: coffee and cream
L: scrambled eggs and pork scratchings
D: tuna mayo, little gem, cucumber

Saturday
B: coffee and cream
L: scrambled eggs and asparagus
D: sausages and broccoli in creamy sauce

Sunday
B: coffee and cream
D: pork belly slices with broccoli in creamy sauce

Monday
B: coffee and cream
L: scrambled eggs and asparagus
D: salmon and broccoli

I realise many of my meals are samey. We had a busy week after school and I needed to make sure I had good food prepared and tuna mayo fitted the bill.

Could I join? I know you're on week 2. I've been trying to low carb for a few days but I'm not really sure if I'm doing it right. Unsure re: various websites etc, & Pinterest mainly seems to be full of either recipes using American ingredients, or ways to cheat. Where would I get ketostix & do I actually need them? Sorry I've looked through previous thread but couldn't see that.

AdalindSchade · 30/05/2017 08:29

Hi lego
There is tons of info in the spreadsheet at the top of this thread. You don't need keto stix.

BIWI · 30/05/2017 08:35

@CobOnTheCorn where is your breakfast?! It's rule no 1 of Bootcamp!

@LegoCaltrops - yes, lots of information on the spreadsheet - look at the tabs to find Bootcamp rules in full (there's a short version at the start of this thread). And welcome!

Just ask any questions you might have on this thread

MaryThorne · 30/05/2017 08:37

Welcome Lego!

I'm feeling excited as I have so much more energy now I'm back low carving. I've got the day off today and instead of feeling like lounging around and taking it easy, I'm in the mood to get stuff done. Busy doing housework since 7.30am and making a mental to do list of various things I've been putting off for ages.

styledilemma · 30/05/2017 08:53

My appetite has finally decreased, so that's good. I'm no longer thinking about food all the time.
I am however missing solid food, (especially for snacking) if that makes sense and can't wait till we reach boot camp lite so that I can have a slice of low carb bread once in a while -(on my designated lite days)
A question to those who have done this before-
When do we go on to the lite version? is it definitely after week 2?

L238 · 30/05/2017 08:55

Experienced boot campers: a question please.

I'm used to drinking milk kefir most days, which I like for it's probiotic qualities. I haven't had any in the last week but am noticing somewhat negative digestive effects without it. These may also be from a radical diet change so I'll give it time to see if it settles, but if not would having a little bit of kefir every day mess things up?
Carb wise it seems to be somewhere between Greek yog & milk depending on brand. I don't have a bottle of my usual stuff to check the label

styledilemma · 30/05/2017 08:55

B - fried egg plus one small avocado.

OldBooks · 30/05/2017 08:57

Sayrra & Stunt wow that's fascinating! And clearly a good sign then Grin I will grin and bear it knowing it means fat is washing away. Thanks!

CobOnTheCorn · 30/05/2017 08:58

Hi BIWI

I was wondering when I'd get pulled up on that...

I've been low carbing for a while, usually eating scrambled eggs and avocado for breakfast but I wasn't losing weight or losing and regaining. On the night before boot camp started I ate too much, good low carb food but too much so the next morning I wasn't hungry at all so I started having coffee and cream instead. It easily keeps me going until lunch. Do you think I need to add something?

StuntNun · 30/05/2017 09:02

Style you can move on to Bootcamp Light whenever you want. Most people do two weeks of Bootcamp then move to Bootcamp Light. If you aren't missing berries, nuts etc. then you can stay on Bootcamp. Some do a hybrid where you Bootcamp during the week then do Bootcamp Light at the weekend.

L238 milk kefir is okay but you will need to check the amount you're having. I tried it for a while but I only had about 70 ml per day so that it wasn't too many carbs.

JiminnyCricket · 30/05/2017 09:06

Coconut coffee test round 2: coconut cream.

Better on carbs than the coconut cuisine/ coconut oil combo and higher in fat.

Takes about 30 seconds to melt into the coffee and weirdly, doesn't taste coconutty at all in the coffee, just like standard cream Confused

I'm using half one of these little tins per coffee Smile

Coconut cream is the winner at the moment!

JiminnyCricket · 30/05/2017 09:09

L238 the longer you leave kefir to cultivate, the lower carb it will be :)

I brew it for my dogs, in the hotter weather I leave it for 48 hours and skim off the clearer liquid and feed them the solid, or I mix it back together while it's in the fridge :)

styledilemma · 30/05/2017 09:19

Thanks Stunt
I've already made my mind up that I will do the hybrid version - proper boot camp for 4 days and Light for 3 (2 light days on my excercise class days in the week and 1light day on the weekend, so I can have a vodka and soda if we go out Smile)
I am determined to do the 2 whole weeks of strict boot camp first though. it's a good kick start.

ASDismynormality · 30/05/2017 09:23

thenightsky I attended a pre-diabetic course and the general idea was to eat a low carb diet but the woman runnng it really didn't understand what it actually meant! We were simultaneously told to eat no carbs at all, pile our plates with any veggies, eat two portions of any fruit a day, toast weetabix etc is ok in moderation. Had good intentions but very poor execution. I'm hoping we get a feedback form if not then I will complain which some of the others on the course said they would too.

YoLoZammo · 30/05/2017 09:27

L238 I take a multivit tablet with probiotics in it daily. No carbs!

stuntnun wow, thanks for the science lesson! I have so much to learn. I need to read but I'm time poor atm. Thank you for putting my mind at rest. I'm due to start the nhs diabetic prevention scheme and they promote LC so I'm hoping I'll learn there too and be able to ask lots of questions.

I had a coffee this morning with cream and coconut oil in. Weird!!! So used to cutting back on fats it feels wrong, but I know it's right!

I'm off to post on the recipe thread.

Thanks everyone for all the support . This thread is amazing. I'm benefiting from all the questions other people ask too. Star

TimeIhadaNameChange · 30/05/2017 09:34

Yesterday's meals:

B - Total, 2 coffees
L - Leftover broccoli and cauliflower cheese, prosciutto and cheddar, Total
D - Leftover gammon with cabbage, baby sweetcorn, mushrooms and butter
Nibbled on another slice of prosciutto and cheese at some point during the evening.

Today is the same, except I'll do something different with the gammon. Not quite sure what, though. Quite fancy making a risotto for DP and serving myself a portion of riceless risotto, but I'll think about it. If anyone has any ideas, though, let me know!

styledilemma · 30/05/2017 09:35

Yolo it's great here. So much support and good ideas.

ClearEyesFullHearts · 30/05/2017 09:37

I'm used to using olive oil for cooking and extra virgin olive oil for salads.

Why are most people using coconut instead? They both appear to be free of carbohydrates. (Ooh, get me doing "research"!) Wink

RubyGoat · 30/05/2017 09:40

I have a question, & apologies if I phrase it awkwardly. I'm on daily medication (for extremely severe migraines), as a side effect it can suppress appetite - in fact it is used as a weight loss drug in conjunction with something else, not sure what. So I don't have to eat much before I feel full, & tend to go from not quite full > full > uncomfortable, in about 6 mouthfuls. So I'm used to feeling overfull & uncomfortable. When they first put me on it, my weight loss was severe & I looked horrible, my doctor basically told me I had to ignore my "full" signal & eat a lot more. So now I can't tell when I've had enough... so anyway. What's a "normal" portion size that I should be eating? Because honestly, I couldn't finish a 2-egg mushroom omelette, made with butter this morning, nothing to drink yet. Yet I'm overweight.

bellalurgy · 30/05/2017 09:40

Morning all. So hard to keep up with you!

Having my BP checked again today ~ it will be high, I will be lectured and told to lose weight Shock I will also be told to take more medication which I am resisting at the moment. I'm hoping to do a deal ~ if I promise to lose weight will they not insist on more medication for 3 months? I'm trying to reduce all my medication and I'm sure given a bit of time I'll be in a better place!

Brunch will be spinach and mushroom omelette
Dinner will be aubergine/halloumi/veg combo
Snack if needed will be total yoghurt

Have a good day everyone x

dustmotesinthesun · 30/05/2017 09:41

Morning everyone!

Really struggling to keep up with how fast moving the thread is but I'm still here KOKO.

Having my cold showers every morning and I have to say I'm loving them. It's so hard getting in but I'd forgotten that they really up my self-esteem. It might sound bonkers but I feel that by stepping into cold water I'm doing something a tiny bit hard and kinda brave too. And so that makes me feel all triumphant and ready to face the day. They make me feel temporarily really energetic and ohysically well too and for someone who really never feels well that's a huge boost. I just wish the effects lasted longer. Will try really hard to keep having them.

My diet has been good. I was quite proud of myself - I ended up having a much busier weekend than normal because I went with friends for a weekend away. That kind of thing feels to me like running a marathon would for a healthy person. I sat down before I went and realised coming back I'd be completely knackered and likely to fall into carby twatdom. So I organised an online food shop to arrive when I got back with lots of lovely low carb treats including pork scratchings.

I did indeed get back exhausted and definitely had the urge to binge. I lay i bed eating my pork scratchings though and feel so great that I negotiated that moment successfully.

I will be trying much harder in future to do the same thing with any upcoming stresses or extra tiring things. The last two weeks I didn't have enough food in the cupboards and 10 days ago when I ended up eating lots of dark chocolate - well I'm sure I wouldn't have done that if I'd just planned my weekend better.

My skin is SO fantastic at the moment. Just baby soft. I love how low carb does that to you. Food affects so much.

CobOnTheCorn · 30/05/2017 09:52

I've been having cold showers too dustmotes

I don't love them and see it as a challenge to even get under the water but I do feel invigorated afterwards and I'm telling myself that the effects will be cumulative so the more I do it the, the better I'll feel for longer.

JiminnyCricket · 30/05/2017 09:54

The worst thing ever has happened.

I've ever so nearly run out of maple and peacan coffee Sad

I've still got cinnamon and malt whiskey to get through but the maple and pecan one was my very very favourite Sad

If anyone loves a flavoured/ syrup coffee and is missing it, this company do flavoured coffees that are sugar/ sweetner/ nasties free. The beans are infused overnight, not coated with syrup etc so they are totally carb free just like regular coffee. It's a bit like fruit tea in that it smells strongly of the flavour you choose but it doesnt taste sweet or anything, just like regular good quality coffee with a hint of whatever you ordered. It's most excellent with cream Grin

Cookingongas · 30/05/2017 10:00

If it's okay to be late I'm going to join you all. Second time in boot camp (with a 6 year gap)

The problem I have is that I don't own scales, but will try to get my weight weekly.
I also have a dh who enjoys sabotage- given a chance he'll sugar my coffee etc. Oh and I'm borderline alcoholic- have been drinking alcohol everyday for the last three months BlushSad- hoping that boot camp will be wake me up a bit in that regard.

I can do this!
