@Yorkshirebornandbred
I'm really sorry to hear you're struggling. Being in pain like that must be really rubbish.
However, it does sound to me like you're not really thinking ahead and planning your food - and you definitely have an issue with water!
Have you tried sparkling water instead? I find that much more satisfying somehow. I also use, occasionally, some PLJ (lemon or lime) only a small dash, and it helps to add a bit more interest.
Sainsbury sell both the lime and lemon versions. As long as you only have a little dash, it's very low in carbs.
Really struggled today sad I started well, olives first thing because I was in a hurry
Olives will not satisfy your hunger. If you know you're going to be in a hurry in the morning, then make sure you keep some hard boiled eggs or some cooked (low carb!) sausages in the fridge, that you can grab an eat on the run. However, I also have to say that it would have taken you only around 5 minutes to make an omelette, which would have been much more satisfying!
lunch was bacon, eggs and fried mushrooms.
This sounds perfect - but I hope it was fried rather than grilled bacon, and that there was plenty of fat with the eggs, however they had been cooked?
Dinner was rubbish because I left it too late
Again, why leaving things so late? And why haven't you planned something in advance?
so just made mince in gravy which I had with the rest of the spinach (not much) and half an avocado, mashed up with yoghurt and chilli powder to a kind of guacamole
Well -
- sounds interesting! Was the mince high in fat? How many carbs did the gravy have?
Later I was starving
Yes! Because you're not eating enough and you're not eating enough fat. Also, if you're not drinking the water, then this will also contribute to hunger - your body can mistake thirst for hunger.
I'm struggling with quick things... had a pack of pork scratchings then gave in to cheese, celery with Philadelphia
Yes - you're hungry because you're not eating, BUT don't see this as 'giving in'; at this stage, it's all about adapting to this WOE (way of eating), and if you're hungry then you must eat. It isn't a WOE that's about deprivation.
and cream in coffee
Notthing wrong with this!
... then later two squares of very dark chocolate
This isn't Bootcamp. Please don't start snacking on chocolate and sweet stuff so soon!
I know I'm having far too much dairy
Not necessarily - not everyone has a problem with dairy. Don't worry about dairy at this stage. It's far more important to get yourself into the habit of eating along Bootcamp lines. And from what you've said you've had today, it doesn't sound like that much.
I don't know what else to snack on
Great list from Sayrra
.. the pate I like is high in carbs and I don't like the low carb pate .. I can taste the liver
There has to be more than one pate? And not all pate has liver in it -
smoked mackerel, mushroom, etc. But if you don't like it, just choose something else
...i just can't afford those M&S snacks ... I know I shouldn't snack so much but I'm always hungry in the evening.
Once you get into the swing of Bootcamp you really will find that you don't need to snack, because you won't be hungry between meals. However, this will only work if you stick to the rules! You're having to snack because you're hungry, because you're not eating proper meals or drinking enough water.
Also semi insomniac so always late to bed
I sympathise here - whilst I don't have problems getting to sleep, I often wake at 3 or 5. However, poor sleep also releases another hormone, cortisol, the stress hormone - and this won't help you to lose weight I'm afraid.
Do you practise good sleep hygiene? Have you tried any relaxation or mindfulness exercises? (Sorry if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs here!)
If you are staying up late, why not use that time to plan out what your'e going to cook for the next few days, or to cook something that you can grab for breakfast the next day?
Also in a lot of pain with a bad back that paracetamol don't touch
Again, much sympathy
What does your GP say about this? Have you been given/have you tried stronger pain killers? Are there any exercises that you can do to relieve this?
so feeling thoroughly fed up and down.
I'm not surprised. And I'm sure having a random stranger on the internet picking your posts apart isn't really making you feel any better.
I'm not drinking enough either ... I don't like water, usually drink mug after mug of coffee. I've been putting lemon in my water so i can at least drink some but struggle to manage more than 1.5 l.
Well, mug after mug of coffee isn't going to help your sleep is it? This should be one of the first things that you should try and knock on the head - especially if you're using cream in each cup - you'll be consuming a lot of carbs over the course of each day.
1.5 litres of water really isn't very much. I can understand it when people say they can't drink 3 or 4 litres, if they need to drink that much, but this isn't that much at all. If you have a 500ml glass of water with each meal you have, that's your 1.5 litres straight away. And then you could add one in mid-morning and another mid-afternoon to take it up to the minimum 2.5 litres.
It is really important that you drink the water
I'll pick myself up and carry on tomorrow though. I need to lose at least two stone
Please don't think I'm trying to be mean with this critique of your day. But you need to lose at least two stone, yet your behaviour seems designed to sabotage this. No-one else can lose the weight but you.
It sounds to me like you're trapped in a vicious cycle - and you need to break out of this to stop feeling so down and negative.
Take heart from PP who have done Bootcamp before, and who can attest to its benefits (least of all weight loss). Take charge!
And I wish you all the best with it - PM me if I can help you any more.
But more than anything, know that there are at least 150 other people here who are here to help and support (plus goodness knows how many others who are lurking!)
