So our last week! Here's the Spreadsheet for its penultimate outing

One more week could see another couple of pounds off.

Fingers crossed, and good luck! Flowers

Sorry you felt that way, but it wasn't meant to offend.

As I said, tone is difficult when you're typing!

Bibs2014 · 02/05/2017 18:54

Welcome Martha!

I have had a lovely 10 days off work but back tomorrow which will be the test for me now as I have had loads of time to prepare lovely low carb meals at home, now have to do this in the big wide world!

Today's menu was:

creamy coffee, 2 sausages, eggs

lunch was chicken wings, salad

dinner was halloumi, chorizo, avo, olives, rocket

just had a handful of raspberries in a table spoon of cream. have also had 2 more creamy coffess today. Is that too much cream?

Did a shop today for work lunches - I foresee lots of chicken and salad!

Two questions - why couldn't I have a curry last night from the indian takeaway, why did I have to stick to dry stuff? Secondly, in ALDI today there was some ready made lamb rogan josh curry that was low carb - would I be able to eat that?

Hesdeadjim · 02/05/2017 19:12

Food porn for the day Grin

Lunch was smoked salmon salad with dill sauce, cream cheese and avocado.

Dinner: belly pork with spinach cooked in butter and a bit of mint and gravy.

NOM.

Hi Oldbooks, small steps as they say, best of luck to you. Well today so far has been:

Breakfast- scrambled eggs and chorizo
Lunch- romaine lettuce, tinned tuna, few chunks of cheddar and dressing
Dinner- chicken and buttered cabbage

Am I on the right track?

Definitely feeling less bloated and not been hungry all day. Smile

wombattoo · 02/05/2017 20:30

Welcome Martha and Titsee

Don't go Martha. Everyone is welcome here. I'm sure Hedead was trying to be helpful. She is a very supportive poster.

I'm planning on strict bc from tomorrow.

BIWI · 02/05/2017 20:41

Bibs - the sauces used for curries are generally based on a lot of onion, and sometimes they're sweetened as well - so you can end up eating something that's very carby, even if it's a meat curry.

By choosing a dry curry you should avoid all of that.

The advantage of buying a curry from the supermarket, is that you can read the carb count on the back, whereas you have no way of knowing in a restaurant.

Out of interest, what was the carb count of the Aldi meal?

Thx BIWI. Makes sense.
I can't remember the carbs but will take a picture next time and post it here!

Hi, I've been lurking for a while, been doing bootcamp on my own. Lost 8lbs so far, 20lbs to go. Decided to brave it & come onto the thread.

I think I've figured out how my weightloss goes on this WOE - instead of consistent weekly losses, I fluctuate between the same 2lbs for 2/3 weeks, then get a whoosh and drop 3/4 in one go. I'm not sure weekly weighing is for me, I might go monthly. My measurements are going down though, so I'm pleased.

I've also noticed my skin completely clear up from having adult acne and my running times get faster, so I'm definitely sticking with this WOE!

BIWI · 03/05/2017 07:26

Welcome, Hippadoppaloppagorillapig!

You're not alone in finding that weight seems to drop off in 'lumps'!

And also, you're not alone in finding that there are other benefits beyond weight loss from this WOE.

Hippa that's a pretty typical pattern of weight loss on this way of eating. There's no consensus on the exact mechanism but it appears that fat loss occurs consistently so long as you follow the rules but it's masked by water retention so that weight loss goes in fits and starts. It's not uncommon for people to stall for three or four weeks then lose a few pounds seemingly overnight. It can make it frustrating when the scales don't budge week after week. One option is weighing monthly. Another is to weigh weekly but only compare with your weight from four weeks previously. I use a weight app that averages out your weight over the last few weigh ins. I think it's important to develop a good mindset towards your weight so you don't get hung up on the number on the scales. I've decided that my lowest weight over the past week is my "actual weight" and anything above that is water retention.

It's also useful to take measurements because your waist can shrink even though the scales don't budge. We've had people in previous Bootcamps go down a dress size without losing weight. They have clearly lost fat but it doesn't show up on the scales.

Hesdead / Jiminy thanks very much for your post a few days back with suggestions for supermarket lunches etc. The cauliflower cheese suggestion is inspired, I love cauli cheese but no one else in my house will eat it, I never thought of buying a ready meal of it. Do you mind if I steal your suggestions for my low carb program?

Kleptronic · 03/05/2017 08:57

Hello everyone, welcome new people!

ragz134 · 03/05/2017 10:06

Morning all. New low weight here today, always a nice boost! I've only lost 2.4lbs in the last 6 weeks, but my total this year is 24.6lbs so averaged out it's 6lb a month.
Nuts and cheese for lunch today after coffee and cream for breakfast. Dinner probably omelette.

nekobus · 03/05/2017 10:38

Hello everyone and welcome lots of lovely new boot-campers!

I've been lurking a while since my Easter carb-gate... now back on track for the last week. Too scared to weigh in, so I'm going by my belt holes. At my lowest on the last BC I was comfortably in hole no 5, and post Easter had bloated up to no 2 Blushtoday it's heading in the right direction (squeezing into hole 4 Grin )

I've been so easily de-railed these last few weeks - Easter, bank holiday, family staying, entertaining and being entertained, making cakes for bake sales...

Need to get myself some will power!!!

Anyway having caught up with the thread there are some inspiring weight losses - well done you guys!!!

I've stocked up on lots of meat and fish, and LC veggies so no excuses now. made some flax bread and my very occasional treat of LC brownies - basically eggs, choc, butter, ground almonds and sweetener. I know the sweetener is a bit frowned upon so I'm going to experiment by reducing it each time I make it until it's still edible!! Recipe hear for anyone who wants a look www.uplateanyway.com/keto/chewy-fudge-brownies/

CaptainBraandPants · 03/05/2017 10:49

Welcome Martha, Titsee and hippa.
hippa I agree with pretty much everything you said. Apart from the weight loss, one of the things I love most about this woe is how much better my skin is. That in itself gives me more confidence.
ragz well done, your perseverance is paying off. Flowers

Went for another run yesterday and hoping to get chance to go again today.
Yesterday's food was
B: 2x creamy coffees
L: leftover pork, cauli mash, buttered leeks and brocoli
D: blue cheese burgers, on a portebello mushroom instead of a bun, with salad
I was strict yesterday as I felt a bit bloated from the day before - it was my book club evening. I avoided all the carby twattiness and just ate cheese, but too much of it. However, I did have a glass of wine, although my hostess kept trying to top my glass up and I was having to hide it. Grin I don't usually have this problem as I usually drive, but I got a lift on Monday.

Today's food will be
B: creamy coffee x2
L: leftover burger with salad
D: butter chicken (from the IPD cookbook) with cauli rice. I love this recipe and I am salivating just thinking about it.

CaptainBraandPants · 03/05/2017 10:54

Well done for getting back on track nekobus. Those brownies look nice. The only cake/ biscuit type thing I have made recently were amaretti biscuits and I found that even with only half of the sweetener suggested by the recipe, they were plenty sweet enough.

OldBooks · 03/05/2017 11:18

I read somewhere that you can usually at least halve the sugar in a recipe and it will still be sweet enough.

Speaking of baking has anyone experimented with fat bombs? I came across them while looking at keto/low carb recipes on Pinterest. This kind of thing: myketorecipes.com/recipe/chocolate-peanut-butter-fat-bombs/

Bibs2014 · 03/05/2017 11:30

Thanks everyone for the info on the weight loss, very interesting!

Todays menu - I actually got out of bed 10 mins earlier and made myself scrambled eggs for breakfast!
Lunch is chicken salad with sour cream
Dinner is out at Zizzi - should be fine to find something low-carb!

JiminnyCricket · 03/05/2017 11:31

stunt not at all, go for it :)

JiminnyCricket · 03/05/2017 11:33

oldbooks I'd stear clear of fat bombs unless you're hugely under calories and carbs for some reason. Very easy to eat and ignore the fact they are basically meal replacements!

marioncole · 03/05/2017 12:42

Just checking in to get back on the 'Threads I'm On' list.

4lbs down last week, that makes 7lb over my first two weeks Smile

Bibs2014 · 03/05/2017 13:49

Well done Marion!

nekobus · 03/05/2017 14:12

Oooh do you have a recipe for the amaretto biscuits captain?

Old I make these fat bombs screwedonstraight.net/keto-diet-peanut-butter-cup-fat-bombs/ , 100 cals and 2g carbs each - store them in the freezer- they are v filling so it is hard to overeat them but I would take jiminny's advice and be careful if you are already getting enough fat in your diet.

dustmotesinthesun · 03/05/2017 14:15

Welcome new people and name changers!

I actually didn't know that about water retention and weight loss. Fascinating stuff.

I went through a phase of eating fat bombs and they stalled me but I was eating them with meals. They were scrumptious though. I'd still consider eating them to replace breakfast. Or as a snack if i had to go really hours between meals or something.

Bacon and eggs for brekkie here then i've had sausages and salad with mayo for lunch. Duck breast for supper. Roast duck breast is one of my all time favourites. Please try it if you haven't already. It goes quite crispy. It's lovely.
