So our last week! Here's the Spreadsheet for its penultimate outing

One more week could see another couple of pounds off.

Fingers crossed, and good luck! Flowers

Welcome OldBooks
I have never used mfp or any other macro type tracker. If you follow the rules, you won't need to. Feel free to post out a list of what you are eating and someone will point out if there's anything amiss. I've no idea about tofu. Good luck.

CaptainBraandPants · 01/05/2017 09:33

I meant to say, I think tofu is pretty low carb, but low fat, too. So, you are probably ok if you make sure you are adding lots of fat to the dishes you eat it in.

OldBooks · 01/05/2017 09:42

Thanks for the friendly welcome! That's great to know Captain and Wombat. I have no problems adding fat to tofu Grin

Well done on the losses this week.
I have finally reached a new low weight, after my weeks and weeks of wobbling. 1.2lbs off since last week and 9lbs off for bootcamp in total. I was LC for a month or so beforehand so my biggest losses came before I started BC.
Since my heaviest weight last year, I am now exactly 2 stone lighter. Since Jan 1st I have lost 23.8lbs.
I had definitely allowed some carb creep, so I'm going to be more strict for a bit. Yesterday's eating went well and I saw a result, so good positive reinforcement! I managed to have a roast and not stuff myself to bursting, which is an achievement for me, normally portions are huge. I also offered my sister a glass of wine and didn't join her...

CaptainBraandPants · 01/05/2017 10:02

Yay Ragz well done. Flowers
There are so many awesome people on this thread, I love being part of this.

dustmotesinthesun · 01/05/2017 11:25

Welcome Oldbooks. You're going to love low carbing.

Big well done on the losses everyone. Pats everyone on the back.

Hesdead I'm sorry your mum wasn't more enthusiastic. At the end of the day you're doing really well losing and it's a bit baffling that people can't see how healthy a woe it is when the results are there in front of them. I haven't had a gallbladder for 15 years. Have been low carbing for 4 years and have never had issues. I'm more convinced now that in fact a low fat diet is rubbish for gallbladders based on things I've read but haven't seen any science supporting that.

I had rice and lentils on Saturday night. Long story. I enjoyed them Blush. I now have a really weird rash on my back. It's really itchy. Of course it might not be related but I never have skin issues and this is the only thing that's different. No new clothes, no change in washing powder, etc. I'm a bit baffled but it does seem likely it caused it. I haven't eaten lentils for years.

I feel really positive today. Looking forward to being strict all May, losing some more inches and feeling great in June. The beginning of a month always feels a bit like a fresh start for me in terms of weight loss. Oh and my dressing gown just started getting baggy. It's hanging off me now!

bellalurgy · 01/05/2017 12:48

Yay, finally got some internet back. We've finally moved house (well, flat) and am here surrounded by boxes and anaglypta with a bit of wood chip in every room just to make it even better! I love it though. It'll take time but I think we're going to be here for many years. It was a big move, south coast to Edinburgh but totally worth it.

Despite all the stress, I kept to this woe and even managed to log onto MFP via my phone so my 84 day streak is intact. I'm also doing '100 days' just to see where I am at the end. I know what I weighed at the beginning but I haven't seen my scales for a while so I'm hoping to find them for day 100. I'm pretty sure I've finally broken my bad snacking, sweet eating, constantly grazing habits and now I'm never hungry.

There are a few food 'challenges' coming up but I'm sure it'll be fine. Definitely going to join the next BC, I could do with being strict and ultra focused for a bit!

Brunch was boiled eggs, leaves with olive oil, cherry toms, creamy coleslaw and some cucumber. No breakfast as I only eat 12-7.

Dinner will be meat and veg, greek yoghurt with a tsp of cocoa mixed in and frozen raspberries.

Almond milk hot chocolate before bed. :)

Bibs2014 · 01/05/2017 13:42

Welcome newbies and well done to all the weighers!

I'm also keen to have a good month and I just realised next month is June - gulp! So hot weather and less clothes will be my inspiration!

Proud of myself today - went shopping with DH and DS and they had croissants with cheese from Pret and mini cupcakes and I just had a creamy coffee Grin.

DH wants an Indian takeaway tonight. What can I have from there?

dustmotesinthesun · 01/05/2017 15:05

With the almond milk hot chocolate what recipe did you use? I once made one and it was disgusting. Not sweet enough at all but I don't want to eat sweeteners.

Well done Bibs. Not sure about the Indian. Korma maybe with cauli rice?

I've bought a couple of summer dresses too. I absolutely love them but would prefer to lose a bit before wearing them. I'll be v happy if i get into them. Fingers crossed.

BIWI · 01/05/2017 16:38

Indian takeaway - stick to dry curries, so anything that's tikka or tandoori, and have a side dish of spinach or mushroom or cauliflower bhaji (not the deep fried ones, but just a veggie curry!). Obviously no rice, poppadoms, naan, etc

Dust, I've had no sugar for 84 days and don't notice it any more. I use unsweetened almond milk, a large tsp of cocoa powder (sains and asda have the lowest carb ones) and a little bit of sweetener if needed. It's lovely. Mind you, even as a sugar fiend I couldn't drink ready made hot chocolate, far too sweet and not enough chocolate.

dustmotesinthesun · 01/05/2017 17:37

Is Korma too carby then?

Sounds good bella. I think it might just trigger cravings for me but might try it next Christmas or something. I only drink fruit tea and miss my hot chocolates.

ragz134 · 01/05/2017 17:41

I used erythritol to sweeten my hot chocolate the other night, it was lovely. I bought a bag off amazon a while ago, I don't use it often so it is lasting well. It isn't an artificial sweetener, it's a sugar alcohol. I wouldn't have it in large amounts or every day, but it is nice to have something sweet sometimes.

BIWI · 01/05/2017 18:28

Korma shouldn't be too carby, but often I think they sweeten it!

Just saying hi ....

Low carbing as it's the only way I can shift pounds!

Can anyone run me through what you have in a typical day / week on low carb?

Thanks Grin

Hesdeadjim · 01/05/2017 19:03

Hi decs

Typical day for me:
Creamy coffee in the morning

Lunch usually a salad of some sort with chicken/ avocado/ smoked salmon and always an oily dressing

Dinner is literally anything I fancy.
Tonight is lamb hotspot but with sliced celariac instead of potato. Common dinner are stir fry with peanut butter sauce, slow cooked lamb shanks, pork belly roast etc

dustmotesinthesun · 01/05/2017 19:43

I see BIWI, thanks. I should give it a go making it at home sometime.

Has anyone ever tried Tiger Nuts? Technically they aren't low carb but they're full of resistant starch which seems to make them v good for you. Apparently people have been eating them for millennia and they're very good for your. Quite curious to try some as a one off.

Typical day: Boiled eggs with veg for breakfast and a spoon of coconut oil or 1/2 an avo
Lunch a big salad with some fish. Sometimes have some fruit then
Snack on olives or a few nuts or cheese
Supper - roast meat with lots of veg. Occasionally berries with coconut cream. I'm always trying to cut back on fruit!

Bibs2014 · 01/05/2017 20:11

Thanks I had lamb chops and saag paneer with salad.

Bacon and eggs for breakfast
2 creamy coffees
Chicken wings for lunch

BIWI · 01/05/2017 20:20

There's a lovely recipe for Beef Korma in the Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook.

Cooking from Diana Henry's 'Simple' book tonight - not quite as simple as I was thinking Hmm

Roast chicken; chicken is marinated in spiced yoghurt for a couple of hours, then you make a spiced butter (with cumin, coriander, cloves, chilli, garlic, turmeric and ginger) which you have to spread under the skin of the chicken. Took bloody ages and made a huge amount of mess! It smells lovely, so have to see what it's like and if it was worth the effort.

Serving it with roasted broccoli, with onion and red chilli, and a green salad.

So I made it through my first low carb day, woo!

Just want to check though - I am hungry. I suspect that I am not adding enough fat to meals? Or should I just expect this as a normal part of changing my WOE?

Breakfast: bowl of Total greek yoghurt (full fat)
Snacks: cubes of cheddar, a few carrot sticks (I know carrots should be limited)
Lunch: boiled eggs smooshed with mayo and olive oil on a salad of lettuce, cucumber and tomato
Tea: chicken and veg (chicken was browned off in olive oil then cooked in the slow cooker in a sauce of mustard, lemon and stock, I didn't add any more fat to it such as butter/oil on the veg)
Snacks: cubes of cheddar, some more greek yoghurt

I have had 4 pints of water and some herbal tea and have been weeing for England

BIWI · 01/05/2017 21:06

Welcome, OldBooks!

It will probably take you a few days at least to get used to eating this way.

But yes, definitely add more fat to things - I would have added butter to the chicken, for example. And also, in the early days, I'd probably have something a bit more substantial for breakfast, like scrambled eggs, or a cheese omelette or bacon and eggs.

Also, be careful of snacking on Total yoghurt - that can get quite carby quite quickly.

I don't know how much you weigh, but if you look at the spreadsheet you'll find (on Bootcamp rules) how much you should be drinking. 4 pints is probably not enough!

OP posts:
OldBooks · 01/05/2017 21:21

Ah you are quite right, I should have 6 pints. I assume that is pure water and weak herbal tea doesn't count?

Bibs2014 · 01/05/2017 22:24

Are chia seeds allowed?

BIWI · 01/05/2017 22:31

Bibs - they're OK, but check the carb count, and use them judiciously!
