Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Setting this up early this week, as I have a stupid o'clock start tomorrow, and I know I'll forget!

Hope all has gone well this week.

We have three weeks left, so still time to see a significant loss on the scales.

Here's to a good week for us all

I'm sorry you feel humiliated, @Hesdeadjim, and that certainly wasn't my intention. But one of the things I'm very aware of, having run 3 or 4 Bootcamps every year for the last 5 years is how sensitive other people can be to posts that are made on the chat threads.

The chat threads are to support everyone, no matter how much or how little they have to lose. You're doing brilliantly well and have posted from the beginning, every week, which in itself is support and inspiration to other people on Bootcamp. And I'm glad that you feel you've had support from all of us in turn.

And obviously if things aren't going well, we're all here to support you. We all have a moan about things from time to time!

It is, though, important for me to point out that everything that all of us post can be upsetting for other Bootcampers, as well as being inspiring and/or supportive.

If you're struggling to lose weight, it can be very galling to see someone who has lost a lot of weight seemingly unhappy because they've only lost 5lbs in 30 days.

Wielding my big stick is something we joke about, but I do do it from time to time - it might be hard to hear, but it's important. And although you might not feel it right now, it is meant in a supportive way.

You are a fantastic contributor to Bootcamp, and I very much hope you will see it through to the end - and then continue with the chat, on an ongoing basis.

And sorry if it hurt you Flowers

(Obviously it's a coffee with cream, not milk Wink)

boatgirl81 · 31/03/2017 10:10

Can I ask a question about that time of the month please?

Does your body hold on to extra water for those few days or is it something else that makes you stall or gain for a few days?

Hesdeadjim · 31/03/2017 10:22

boatgirl81 your body retains water 5 days before your period, but once you come on it will drop again. You can weigh up to 10lbs heavier on the 5th day before a period Shock

Progesterone levels drop when you're not pregnant, and progesterone is a diuretic so lower level of it cause you to stop losing water. Oestrogen on the other hand tells each one of your cells to retain a microscopic drop of water in preparation for a fertilised egg, which combined can add up to a lot of weight. Add to that the fact that fat cells produce oestrogen, so as you lose fat you release eostrogen and retain even more water even when you're ages away from your period. Angry

On day 1 of your cycle though, both oestrogen and progesterone should be lower, so this is when you'll lose the water weight.

Also worth adding that during your period you're naturally more hungry so unless you're weighing your food, you'll subconciously eat more hence why if you don't see the extra weight whoosh off on cycle day 1, it's probably a tiny fat gain as well as the water :)

Once your period starts and your hormones begin to normalise ready for the next cycle, the water weight will reduce :)

StuntNun · 31/03/2017 10:48

You were a bit moany Hesdead Wink You are doing well, I think you just need a bit more confidence in yourself. But as BIWI says there are other people on the thread who aren't achieving the rate of weight loss they hoped for, indeed a few have put on weight. I have crunched the spreadsheet for everyone that has logged their weight for four weeks or more and the average weight loss is 1.1 lb per week. Of the people logging on the spreadsheet:

50% have lost a pound or less per week on average.
40% have lost 1-2 lb per week on average.
10% have lost 2-3 lb per week on average.

Hesdeadjim · 31/03/2017 11:06

Quick sense check:

I have exactly 12 minutes today for lunch, so I plan to leg it to tesco to grab something rather than having a coffee or protein shake. Forward, planning here, would it be totally unreasonable to eat this for lunch?:

boatgirl81 · 31/03/2017 11:45

Jiim, I am not an expert but that looks fine to me and I would probably grab something similar.

Thanks for the info re time of the month and thanks StuntNun for crunching those numbers, it makes interesting reading.

Dogblep · 31/03/2017 12:06

Everyone is doing really well Flowers

Hesdead i would try eating a little more. Not eating enough can stall you.

Also google what 5 pounds actually is. I believe bricks weigh 5 pounds. If you haven't tried lifting a brick recently, they're heavy. If i told you to carry one round in a bag each day, you'd notice it!!

If you get that off you each month, that is going to add up to so much less stress on your joints and a reduced cancer risk too.

I'd also say you could easily be losing fat and it not showing much on the scales. I once lost 4 pounds in 3 months but the difference in my body shape was drastic. I got completely demoralised and started thinking low carbing didn't work. I went and put 2 stone back on. I am still so cross with myself because my photos show a huge change. The scale can lie. I also think if you lose 18lbs then sometimes your body just wants a bit of a breather. KOKO and it'll start budging again, most likely in a whoosh. It's one of the things in favour of only weighing once a month although i appreciate that isn't for everyone.

CaptainBraandPants · 31/03/2017 12:20

Hesdead that looks yummy, maybe with a green salad to get some veg in? And Brew although I've had too many today already. I think we all get self obsessed when starting any new woe, but your posts are great. Although I've not seen any pictures of your gorgeous dogs recently, which I think you might need to rectify.
Stunt those stats are really interesting. Talking about self obsessed, I felt like I wasn't losing very quickly, so I did my own individual average and I am losing 1.3lbs per week, so much better than I feel it's going. so, i'm going to make sure I don't moan. Grin
My boobs feel less likely to explode today and I'm almost back at the weight I was on Monday, so pleased with that.
I don't usually particularly struggle at the weekend, because I have little social life, but I do try and incorporate little treats, e.g, the fathead pizza, chocolate, raspberries and cream.

Veryflummoxed · 31/03/2017 14:00

Thanks Stunt I'm definitely one of the "or less" fifty per cent so that was an encouraging position.

LazydaysofSummer · 31/03/2017 15:23

I've been busy at work this morning so it's probably too late now but HesDead Tesco do a smoked ham and egg omellete wrap, which is about 6g Carbs so not as good as your selection but it's easy to eat when you're in a rush and it's really quite yummy.

I have to agree about eating more, I know it goes against the grain but it does work. I'm pretty much weigh in daily, I know we're not suppose but I can't resist. I was working away Wednesday so had a scrambled egg for breakfast then nothing until I got home at 10pm. I had tea planned but couldn't be bothered cooking after a log day so ended up just grabbing a couple of celery sticks and some camembert. Thinking I'd been very good I weighed in yesterday only for the scales to show an increase! So I made a concerted effort to eat more despite not actually feeling hungry, but had two eggs for breakfast, Tesco egg wrap for lunch and a tuna mayo salad (oil dressing) for tea. This morning I've lost what I'd gained plus a bit more! I know daily weight fluctuates but this WOE is definitely about eating the right things, not eating enough is counter productive!

Lazydays no reason why you shouldn't weigh every day - for lots of people that helps to keep them on track.

The only reason I say don't do it is that it can be difficult to deal with the inevitable increases that you'll see - it's quite natural for our body weight to fluctuate on a daily basis, even if overall it's going down.

Hi I was wondering if anyone could let me know if porridge but made with water is ok for breakfast. I need to lose five stone but I hate eggs, cheese and sausage and can't face any more yoghurt. thanks x

Hesdeadjim · 31/03/2017 19:52

Shiraznowplease absolutely not, no I'm afraid. Porridge is all carbs.

If you don't like eggs, you could have bacon maybe? Or perhaps a coffee made with cream. Breakfast doesn't have to be breakfast foods, avocado with mayo and bacon is an awesome brekkie :)

Shiraznowplease · 31/03/2017 20:01

Thanks Jim x

Dogblep · 31/03/2017 20:32

It's not bootcamp but i believe Zoe Harcombe does a lowish carb diet where you can eat porridge for breakfast. I imagine the weight loss is slower though.

I had ackee and saltfish for my supper. It was delicious. All online charts seem to vary but i believe ackee is under 3g carbs per 100g. It has lots of fibre and good fats in it. If anyone knows any differently about the carb amounts I'd be interested to hear it. I won't actually have it again for a good while but it was a nice treat.
