Week 4 - Pre-summer Low Carb Bootcamp: are you KOKO?!

Morning all!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Doom Fabulousness

Week 3 might not have been kind to you - and here's the warning that week 4 might be the same Sad

But hopefully by now you're starting to adjust to low carbing, and should be feeling some of the other benefits, even if the scales are resolutely ignoring you!

If you're struggling, come here and tell us about it. Don't self-sabotage by thinking 'oh fuck it' and diving into the carbs!

Didn't get round to posting yesterday but a couple of pounds off.

Can someone please add my info to the spreadsheet.

Going to knuckle down for the rest of BC, as it's DD's graduation mid July and I have a dress in mind to wear, but it's a bit snug ATM.

I have slipped up on The wrong snacks/treats and it's a slippery slope for me, as once I start I fall off the wagon completely.

Grin Somuchtobits

Titsa - I hope you and your son spend a good night. Chicken drumsticks are fairly portable and available. Would they help to take to hospital with you?

Readyforno2 Flowers How are things now?

Any kinds of Chinese sauce that are low carb? Most of the sachet ones are full of sugar so I usually just use soy, garlic, ginger and sesame. Be glad to hear of any suggestions.

ReggaeShark I LOVE pork belly. I
Might be an addict. I buy slices and heat an ovenproof frying pan until really hot. Add the pork and brown the outside. Transfer to the oven for 20-25 min until really really crisp. I season generously with chilli powder and lemon zest or smoked salt or star anise salt (just whole star anise blitzed in a spice mill with salt) before roasting. After browning I often lift it up and pop shallots or other veg in to soak up all the lovely fat. Aubergine or, small pre cooked bits of celeriac or swede, mushrooms etc are all amazing.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 07/06/2016 23:06

Last night i was in the worse low mood ever, like really bad pmt ( it is almost that time), luckily this morning i found my smile again. I dont usually get PMT when lc-ing.

Today i have been so thirsty yet barely had any wees (sorry) i must have drunk a good 4 litres of water and numerous black coffees. I have also craved loads of salt - had lovely chicken breast x 2 stuffed with bacon and cheese and then scrapped all the chickeny, salty bits off of the bottom of the pan and ate them and covered my chicken in salt.

My fat is very squishy so i am hoping for a really good whoosh in the next week or so. Am i missing something from my diet, i have never had this before. Please tell me its a good sign and i shall be waif like any day now!

StrawberryLeaf · 07/06/2016 23:26

Thanks for the suggestions for lunches for work! Unfortunately I don't have a fridge or microwave at work so a bit limited.

Today's food has been:

B - Greek yoghurt and creamy coffee
L - egg, tuna salad with dressing and Parmesan
D - butter chicken and cauli rice
S - couple of bits of Brie and cheddar, latte in a coffee shop Blush (I know this is against the rules!)

Wintersea · 07/06/2016 23:53

Thanks nekobus - shall look out for the tub of 5 spice. All this talk of pork belly is making me want to buy some for dinner tomorrow!
Hope your son is ok tits

Flisspaps · 07/06/2016 23:55

On my own at work and fighting the urge to have some chocolate out of the tuck box - no sodding sign of period yet despite chocolate cravings and horrendous mood. I'm really trying to stay off the Oh-Fuck-It Bus tonight.

I have huge gaps between periods (35-42 days) so I'm never entirely sure when the next one is due. I have sisters with PCOS and given my hirstuteness and usual inability to lose weight I strongly suspect I have it too.

I've even POAS just to check (negative Grin) as I felt sick at breakfast this morning.

I was so positive in the first two weeks so feeling shitty at this point in BC has come as a shock.

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 00:01

Things I found today:
Onken full fat natural set yoghurt is only 3.2g carbs/100g.
Lidl have baby cucumbers
Lidl have pork belly strips on offer - even better value than normal
Lidl have Scottish butter with Hebridean sea salt. It's gorgeous.
Aldi have posh nocellara olives (like the ridiculously expensive ones from Jamie's) for only £1.49 - they taste like butter and you can tell the 3yo they can't have any because of the stones and be a greedy sh*t responsible parent.

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 00:05

Oh fliss stay off the fuck it bus! If you have PCOS being low carb is even more important for your future health. We PCOS girls are already at risk of horrible diabetes etc and low carb really is the best way to keep it under control. Hormones are shitty shitty things and weightloss will make it go screwy for a while but it will pass. If you are alone at work can you do something to take your mind off it? Walk round? Knitting? Make a coffee?

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 00:07

Flowers for titsalina, hope you are ok?
neko check the 5 spice hasn't got sugar, blooming Schwartz one has. I had to get from the health food shop as my local supermarkets only carry that brand.

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 00:09

Sorry neko I meant winter and got confused Confused

Gcalgske · 08/06/2016 00:13

margaritasbythesea I normally just use ingredients like you described but you can make a nice satay with almond butter or NAS peanut butter, sesame oil, chilli, garlic, soya sauce and lime juice.

Ginger, garlic, mild sf curry powder, Xanthan gum and a chicken stock cube makes a decent approximation of Chinese curry sauce.

HumphreyCobblers · 08/06/2016 05:51

oooh, the whoosh fairy came! 3 lbs off since yesterday!!

That took a lot of the sting out of being woken at five

Veryflummoxed · 08/06/2016 06:24

That's great Humphrey.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 08/06/2016 06:57

fliss, I have PCOS too and my cycles were similar lengths. I did some months of 5:2 which led to them becoming consistently 34 days and now with bootcamp, my last was 32. In the realms of 'normal'. I think it is tied to the weight loss and the lowering of insulin levels.

WanHeda · 08/06/2016 07:01

Well done Humphrey!

Gcal, Lidl is a low carbers paradise, isn't it? I buy their crayfish tails, they are tastier than prawns in a salad. Their lamb chops are on special this week too, 4 fairly decent ones for £2.69! Also, their pesto is the lowest carb I have found, especially the red one. I buy their own brand dark choc, the one that has orange oil/peel in it - amazing! It has 4g per square, so I have one square as a treat but that is all you need. Can you tell I love Lidl? Grin

margaritasbythesea · 08/06/2016 07:01

Thanks gcal. I'll give it a go.

DD has been sick yesterday and this morning after having had a cough for ten days. I have to work several hundred miles away Friday to Saturday and dh and I have no back up for Friday. Week. I'm crossing my fingers for dramatic improvement.

Titsa how is ds this morning?

Flisspaps · 08/06/2016 07:43

Thanks for the support last night, I had a couple of biscuits in the end, which wasn't great but not as bad as it could have been Flowers

Back on it today, bizarrely don't feel like eating at all this morning though.

CathemeralChild · 08/06/2016 08:35

I've put on a 1lb this morning. And that was post-bathroom, pre-breakfast. How the fuck can I have put on a 1lb?! I've not even had so much as a tomato.

NotdeadyetBOING · 08/06/2016 08:52

Bettyblueyeyes - I am having exactly the same experience with exercise. I have nearly finished the second week so am imagining /hoping it is just the fat adaptation phase as BIWI says. Lead legs is exactly what it feels like - and I am generally pretty active and energetic too, so it's not a good feeling. Wondering if my extreme dizziness in yoga yesterday was part of the same thing….

bettyblueeyes83 · 08/06/2016 09:12

Yep I'm still getting periodic dizziness too notdead.

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/06/2016 09:19

Has anyone else found their weight is going from a different area than if they were low cal dieting?

When I have done low cal in the past, my face and my boobs have got smaller, this time my stomach/bum and thighs have all shrunk. People have started commenting. Smile

Can I have your quickest dinners please, I have a very short time to make dinner in between hospital shifts.

BagpussOhSagpuss · 08/06/2016 09:21

I want a visit from the whoosh fairy
< wails>

< begins hopeful prodding in search of "wobbly fat">

LaserShark · 08/06/2016 09:34

Scales showed me 2lbs off this morning. As I'm in Week 3 I'm hardly expecting a whoosh so interested to see if it's a blip or if it stays.

Had a bowl of Greek yoghurt this morning, which has been my breakfast every day for the past week or so and generally been fine. This morning I was starving an hour later and made bacon and eggs with coconut oil and cream. Have drunk a litre of water and a black coffee already. I seem to be a bottomless pit today!

nekobus · 08/06/2016 09:36

well done Humphrey! now can you please send the whoosh fairy my way... Grin

gcal it really surprises me how much sugar there is where I don't expect it! I have the schwartz 5 spice too and, well, I expected it to contain 5 spices not sugar! same for pre-cooked chicken from supermarket, a lot of the time they have sugar and I don't even think to look at the packet, I mean a pack of chicken drumsticks you wouldn't expect to be covered in sugar, same for some smoked fish!! Grrrr
