Ask anything you want here!

Hopefully between me and some of the other experienced Bootcampers we can answer your questions.

So just finishing Day 1 and it's gone quite well. Apart from the fact that I stink… Went to gym and could really notice it when I got sweaty. Plus am sure breath smells a bit. I am really sensitive to smells so notice it like mad. Does it go away once your body gets used to it? And in the meantime - what is the answer - brushing teeth 10 x a day?

margaritasbythesea · 27/05/2016 07:04

I'm the same mushroomtree.

Today I'm going to try scrambled eggs (but what to cook in for added fat?)

Meatballs and courgetti

Steak and salad.

NotdeadyetBOING · 27/05/2016 07:29

Had full fat greek yogurt with a few blueberries and mixed nuts for breakfast.

Planning a smoked mackerel fillet with green salad (including avocado) with olive oil dressing for lunch.

The trouble is supper as we've been invited out to friends so suspect I will have to eat quite a few carbs.

Presumably I just get back on track tomorrow and it's fine - hoping it doesn't derail the whole thing, but can't be rude and refuse stuff…. Hmmm.

MushroomTree · 27/05/2016 07:30

I'm wondering if I can completely cut the milk, cheese and cream but keep the butter? Will this work?!

I've got about another stone to lose but I'm starting to think I'm doomed to be a fatty for the rest of my life!

StuntNun · 27/05/2016 07:32

Mushroom you might not need to cut dairy out altogether. You could try only having one portion of dairy per day.

Margarita it's the protein in dairy that causes the problem (it is hyperinsulinogenic). Butter is only about 1-3% protein so butter should still be fine even if you cut out all other dairy. Ghee is even lower in protein. Otherwise you can use coconut oil. The virgin coconut oils taste of coconut but the refined ones such as KTC don't.

BIWI, many thanks for taking time to reply to my queries. I did let my BP nurse know and all OK as I am monitoring, but I'll keep in touch with them. I am now managing to get all of my water intake in. Got myself a low carb veggie cook book so looking forward to making some tasty food over BH

MushroomTree · 27/05/2016 07:40

Thanks StuntNun. The problem is that I'm a bit of a dairy addict, so I think I'd be better dropping it for a while except butter to see how I get on.

I do love cheese and I can't quite seem to drop tea, although I have tried to cut down to only one or two cups a day.

Veryflummoxed · 27/05/2016 08:13

Just curious. The people adding cream to full fat yogurt, is it a flavour thing or a carb reduction thing? I love Total ff and can't imaging anything improving it so it made me wonder.

margaritasbythesea · 27/05/2016 08:15

Thanks stuntman

stilllovingmysleep · 27/05/2016 10:31

MushroomTree it may be that for you totally abstaining from dairy might work better than moderating: try it say for 2 weeks and see how you do. I too am a bit like that, I manage better with very clear cut rules rather than vague moderation.

stilllovingmysleep · 27/05/2016 10:32

Veryflummoxed I have to admit that yoghurt plus cream seems disgusting to me... But many people seem to like it. I also wonder why the added cream when the yoghurt has so much fat in it already.

BIWI · 27/05/2016 10:34

I do the yoghurt + cream thing, but only if I can't buy Total full fat. Lots of the local stores only sell the 0% fat version.

That said, if you do add cream to ff yog, it's about lowering the overall carbs.

Thanks for answering.

BursarsFrogs · 27/05/2016 12:38

Re. dairy free. If you don't have proper health issues with dairy, I don't think you'd need to leave off butter. It doesn't have milk sugars in it, unlike yoghurt and cream for example.

mumchkin · 27/05/2016 13:50

Hi ladies,
I'm back on l/c post baby - had heaps of success in the past - but this time it feels like things are moving much more slowly. I'm only losing 500g a week despite being in Ketosis (I am checking daily with strips). Would someone mind having a quick look at what I'm eating and letting me know where I might be going wrong? Many thanks!

Breakfast: cup of tea with tiny dash of full cream milk & 1/2 tsp stevia
2 scrambled eggs with either 1/2 cup of mushrooms, slice of bacon or 1/4 avocado
Lunch: cup of salad leaves with either grilled halloumi OR grilled chicken & brie OR cauliflower soup
1-2 squares of Lindt 85% dark chocolate
Snack: 2 celery sticks - 1 with sugar free peanut butter (about a teaspoon) one with blue cheese - (not a lot - I am well within the cheese ration I believe)
Dinner: lamb chops & veg OR steak & salad OR chicken wrapped in parma ham with broccoli OR shepherds pie with cauli mash etc
Dessert: sugar free jelly with 2 tsp double cream
Drinks: only water, 1 sugarfree squash with dinner, 1 white tea with breakfast

StuntNun · 27/05/2016 14:07

Mumchkin 500g per week is a pretty ideal rate of weight loss. If you want to try anything to speed it up then ditch the artificial sweeteners.

NotdeadyetBOING · 27/05/2016 16:22

OMG - I have just had a thought….. Now please be kind to me if this is incredibly obvious, but I am brand new to all this low-carb business…

I am able to stuff myself with eat home made strawberry ice-cream with full fat double cream and egg and a bit of stevia, aren't I?

NotdeadyetBOING · 27/05/2016 16:23

I mean 'made out of' not 'with' in case anyone imagined I was going to chuck double cream and egg OVER my ice-cream….. obv.

Veryflummoxed · 27/05/2016 17:08

not deadly I hope so. I'm now also waiting for someone to ok this. Do you have a recipe or do you use an cream maker?

NotdeadyetBOING · 27/05/2016 17:28

I use an ice-cream maker. These are the ingredients I use:

Strawberry ice-cream (no sugar)
Servings 10
calories per serving
318

500 g(s), Strawberries, raw
100 ml, Semi Skimmed Milk
600 milliliter, Heavy Cream
300 milliliter, Unsweeted Almond Milk
1 pod, French Vanilla Pod
2 tbsp(s), Lemon juice - Raw
10 tsp, Xylitol (Total Carbs)
8 large, Egg, yolk, raw, fresh

Might do all cream instead of the almond milk (had used that in the past in an attempt to be healthier)

NotdeadyetBOING · 27/05/2016 17:29

Also wondering about carb cycling…. Just been reading up on it. Seems like it might be a good half way house if you haven't got loads to lose. Anyone have any views on that?

No fruit or artificial sweetener for the first 2 weeks of boot camp

Mumchkin There is a lot of artificial sweeteners in your meals. Avoid anything 'low sugar'

BIWI · 27/05/2016 17:48

mumchkin

How much fat are you eating? It's difficult to tell from the way you've written your post, but if you're grilling chicken, for example, that isn't going to be giving you much fat - and low carbing is a high fat diet.

You're eating artificial sweeteners, which may not be helping you - there's a school of thought that suggests that the body might respond to these as if it were sugar, so I'd definitely knock the sugar-free jelly and squash on the head.

And don't eat the chocolate either!

OP posts:
MushroomTree · 27/05/2016 18:32

stillovingmysleep that's my thinking. I'm the same with "carb alternatives" like cloud bread. I either eat something or I don't. I'm not good with substitutes.

StuntNun · 27/05/2016 19:16

Notdeadyet I wouldn't recommend carb cycling. It's something that is more suitable for bodybuilders who are tracking their calorie intake and macros very precisely to achieve a balance between alternately building muscle and stripping fat. It's basically way more hassle than Bootcamp. The carbs that you miss will still be there when you reach your goal weight and you can have a cheat meal every so often.
