Post here any questions (or concerns) you may have here. The main chat thread often moves very quickly in the first few weeks, so specific questions can get missed!

You'd be more than welcome! When the ten weeks is over, I keep a chat thread going anyway, so you could still carry on and have us all there for support.

thanks BIWI, it is hard to get a definitive answer isn't it as lots of info put out by the manufacturers of course, part of me wants to stick with a tsp of honey or maple syrup in their baking as at least it is natural, think I will go down that route for now, has to be better than recipes that use a cup of sugar anyway

Buxtonstill · 25/02/2016 13:58

I test my blood sugar on an hourly basis. Sweeteners have no impact on my bg levels, and don't throw me out of ketosis.

thnx Buxton

I think I'm suffering from low potassium levels. I have been having heart palpitations and bloating for the last 2 weeks.

Not sure why they have started now as I have been low carbing for the last 6 months or so (other than holidays, Christmas etc)? The only thing I have done differently that I can think of is to drink more water as was conscious I wasn't losing much weight (although near target weight so this might be why weight loss very slow).

Anyway, just wondering if you had any thoughts/advice?

BIWI · 14/03/2016 18:52

If you've upped your water then this could be an explanation - it's usually sodium that's the problem, so try using more salt and/or having a hot drink using Oxo/Bovril or Marmite.

The other electrolytes, magnesium and potassium you can get from salmon, spinach, avocado and natural full fat yoghurt.

But I'm concerned about those palpitations - if you're still getting them despite the above, then please go and see your GP.

How much water are you drinking, out of interest? And what are you eating? List out for me your meals over the last few days

Thanks BIWI. I'm drinking around 2 lifts a day I thing but don't measure it accurately

Breakfast - usually scrambled egg, mushrooms, sometimes avocado, bullet proof chai
Lunch - I make salad at work so today was fairly typical, rocket, poached salmon, avocado, mushrooms, dressing (homemade with olive oil and vinegar)

Dinner - low carb fish pie made with cauliflower rather than potato, kale
Dinner Yesterday - haddock, leek and other mushrooms in blue cheese sauce

Snacks - chai with double cream, cheese, salted roasted almonds

Think I'll take a trip to GP just to make sure everything ok.

BIWI · 15/03/2016 06:50

I don't think 2 litres is especially excessive.

And your meals look great - plenty of veg as well as protein and fat.

I think I would go to the GP to be honest.

Good luck

Thanks BIWI. Very helpful as always!

If anyone is still around, just wanted some advice.
I am doing really well on LCHF and am vegetarian. Saturday night for the first time in a while we are ordering Indian takeaway.
Can anyone suggest the best things to eat?
I eat anything really as long as meat free.
I'm not being super strict I don't mind enjoying myself, but I would like to try to somewhat stay on the right track!

wombattoo · 27/10/2016 18:36

Hi Mermaid I think I have previously seen recommendations that many vegetarian curries are quite low carb. Avoid the rice/chappatis obviously and try and pick the drier dishes.
There is a current boot camp running - you could try asking on there, or even joining us Smile

MermaidTears · 28/10/2016 13:51

Hi I would like to join the boot camp if it's not too late? I've done all my shopping today and am starting tomorrow morning...
(Why wait till Monday I thought) is it the 'low carb boot camp 2016' thread?

MermaidTears · 28/10/2016 13:52

Starting hardcore I meant. sorry! Made no sense haha....
I've been doing it loosely for a while, but now feel it's time to step it up a gear.

BIWI · 28/10/2016 14:06

Of course you can join! Just find the latest thread (we've only just started, so it's a week 1 thread) and add yourself to the spreadsheet.

Re Indian - cauliflower, spinach and mushroom are all your best bets in terms of low carb (although often the sauce they're in will add carbs). If you're not being too strict you could include a dahl or a chickpea curry - but beware that will add a fair amount of carbs - but a lot better than rice/poppadoms/naan
