Post here any questions (or concerns) you may have here. The main chat thread often moves very quickly in the first few weeks, so specific questions can get missed!

Ack. Thought so. I was just trying to chance my arm Wink

Definitely no to quorn. And I'm afraid carb-free pasta is a bit of a con too, unless it's those shiritaki noodle things. It has been shown to still provoke an insulin reaction, which is exactly what we want to avoid on low-carb/high fat eating.

The kallo things are out too, sorry. Given that a rice cake weighs almost nothing, 5.7g of carbs per cake is a hell of a lot.

mumon the run I brew a green tea or a chai tea bag overnight then add a scoop of low carb protein powder, unsweetened almond milk and some greens (frozen spinach at the moment). It is a big low on fat for this WOE but I like a cold smoothie so haven't found a good way of getting fat into it without it congealing.

Does anyone know the carb content of grease proof paper? I tried making cheese crisps and they've welded themselves to the paper .... Epic fail!!!

Why no Quorn?

BIWI · 18/01/2016 20:34

Because it's a highly processed food, and we're avoiding processed foods as much as we can

Because it's also much higher in carbs than meat - 100g of Quorn mince has 4.5g carbs; and we're supposed to be getting our carbs from veg and salad

Can we have wine in cooking? I want to make beef bourguignon in the slow cooker on Wednesday as I am working late. I can make it without but it'll taste nicer with a good slug of red wine in it.

BIWI · 18/01/2016 22:28

Sadly no - although the heat will drive off the alcohol, I think the carbs will still be there. Leave it until after the first couple of weeks of Bootcamp, and then you can do it.

Is tea/ herbal tea as good as water? Can it make up some of the two litres?

BIWI · 18/01/2016 22:35

I think that as long as you're drinking the right amount overall it should be OK - but I'd try and aim for a greater proportion being water, as it's purer overall.

Thank you BIWI

Mookbark · 19/01/2016 06:34

Thanks BIWI,I thought the answer would be no. Grin

BIWI · 19/01/2016 07:33

(Although, if you measure it, I'm sure one glass of wine in a casserole meant for 4-6 people it wouldn't be that many carbs!)

(I put a glass in my bolognese)
(125ml between 9 is negligable)

Has anyone got any packed lunch suggestions?

I'm going to a trade show at the NEC on Sunday and I know from previous experience that trade show food is bad at best...don't fancy my chances of being able to get something low carb that will actually fill me up!

I eat anything and have no dietary issues so all suggestions welcome.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 19/01/2016 09:17

I would probably make some mini-omelettey things in a muffin case, with say ham, cheese, courgette, spinach, shallot in them?

Or/and maybe some soup in a thermos?

Things like babybels/cheese strings/crudités for snacking

BIWI · 19/01/2016 10:07

Second those omelettey/muffiny things - you can make a couple of different flavours to keep them interesting too! Otherwise, cold cooked sausages (low carb ones, obviously!) or hard boiled eggs. You could take a bag of salad with a little pot of vinaigrette to add when you eat it. Chunks of cheese, some olives, cooked prawns and mayo.

Great ideas - thanks Beyond and BIWI

Have you got a recipe for the muffin things to hand?

fohamy12 · 19/01/2016 14:11

I can't get any celeriac in my local stores atm, could someone please suggest an alternative topping for cottage pie, would normally have carrots and parsnips but think that is too carb heavy for bootcamp?

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 19/01/2016 14:33

Fohamy, I have loads of stores around - asda, tesco, sainsburys, aldi and lidl. Only sainsburys stock it and that is sporadic at best! Its a pita :(

I'd go with cauli or swede mash on the cottage pie

fohamy12 · 19/01/2016 15:16

Thanks Beyond, as my nearest Sainsbury is 35 miles away, I will go with your suggestion of cauliflower mash, I'm assuming I can mash it with some double cream and a bit of cheese?!

mustbemad71 · 19/01/2016 17:05
