Post here any questions (or concerns) you may have here. The main chat thread often moves very quickly in the first few weeks, so specific questions can get missed!

Thanks, Mook Smile

I've been playing around with my food the last few days to see what makes it better/worse - it seems to be any amount of cream and butter, and any greater quantity of yoghurt than a heaped tablespoon. I can't tolerate milk at all, so I'm wondering if whatever it is in milk that causes problems is the same with the other dairy products. I haven't had butter or cream in over 25 years so it might just be the shock Grin! I am going to play around a bit over the next few weeks to see if there's a way to get them in without needing to be winded afterwards- in the meantime, thank goodness cheese is ok...

In the meantime, it's entirely possible I may end up looking like an egg: I'm just making the shopping list, and realised that I've eaten 44 in the last fortnight Blush

ICJump · 02/02/2016 23:19

Just wondering if anyone else is getting heart burn/acid reflux?
I think it might be the double cream as I tend to add some to coffee then a spoon in my mouth Blush I'll switch to single cream for drinks.
Just wondering if anyone else had an issue and how you solved it.

BIWI · 03/02/2016 13:30

What have you been eating, ICJump? List out for me your menus over the lat few days? And include what you've been drinking as well.

Day 1
B 2 eggs, mayo, 1/2 a green peppers 1 coffee double cream (and a spoonfull in my mouth) a tea with skim milk ( was baby sitting from 730am)
L 3 eggs mayo lettuce 2 coffess doublke cream

S 2 strawberries, 1 tiny tom, 6 cheese crackers ( cheeses in a microwave ) then evening a fat bomb and two cups of yogurt (apporx 200 g each) with double cream
12 drinks of water ( some glasses some bottles

Day 2
B Scrambled eggs, lettuce toms 2 coffees with double cream,
L the leftover cabbage 2 boiled eggs mayo 1 coffee double cream

I'm breastfeeding loads also.

nearlyreadytopop · 04/02/2016 10:14

Late to the party but starting at the weekend when I've got myself organised.
The allowed vegetables I've seen referred to. Are there the veg listed on the veg carb counter on page 4 of the spreadsheet?

nearlyreadytopop · 04/02/2016 11:26

And another question, I like Koko coconut milk, is this a good low carb alternative to cows milk?

hefzi · 04/02/2016 12:45

ICJump I find if I have a lot of eggs (I ate 40 in the first fortnight!) then I get acid indigestion - even if I haven't over-eaten otherwise: could yours also be egg-induced?

nearlyready you're looking to mainly eat veg with a carb count of 3 or lower, ideally, from that list, I think.

BIWI · 04/02/2016 13:57

ICJump - you're eating a lot of cheese there - and cheese can be a trigger for heartburn.

It might be worth trying to get your fat from something other than dairy for a couple of days - see if that makes a difference.

Hefzi oh yes we eat loads if eggs.

BIWI that sounds like a good idea. I've got some nice madadamia oil so will use that for salad dressing rather than have cheese with meals and see how things go.

Thanks both

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 05/02/2016 09:16

Breakfast today is a lump of wensleydale with cranberry, and coffee with almond milk. Going shopping so just need something quick to take my tablets with

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 05/02/2016 09:20

Doh, wrong thread Grin

alicewhatsthematter · 05/02/2016 13:07

So, I'm making chicken curry of some sort tonight, what lovely Indian style sides can you recommend?

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/02/2016 13:18

Fantastic chap on Radio 2 right now kind of talking about LCHF. So refreshing

antimatter · 05/02/2016 13:22

Just connected to R2, hope he will carry on NaturalBlondeYeahRight.

antimatter · 05/02/2016 13:26

Oh yes it's Mosley.
We had this chat on MN
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_live_events/2554626-webchat-with-dr-michael-mosley-about-preventing-and-reversing-type-2-diabetes-tuesday-26-january-midday-to-1pm?dod=1

I have his book.
Very insightful and advises on including pulses in LC eating.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/02/2016 13:28

Ok, it's not quite the same as LCHF but good to hear a lot of similar stuff in a calm, rational 'sugar is the problem rather than fat' way.

BIWI · 05/02/2016 13:37

antimatter he only advises pulses in his plan, which he refers to as a Low Carb Mediterranean diet.

Just as a reminder - pulses aren't allowed on Bootcamp!

I think once you read about Insulin Index on another thread we are chatting you may see where is the science he is coming from:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_bootcamp/2562373-Does-anyone-know-anything-about-the-insulin-index

What I understand his diet is low calories. low carb, high fat for pre-diabetic people like me and those who want to makes ure they can control . Where you eat fat/protein/slow released carbs in controlled way. It is only 800 cals for 8 weeks and on and average people on this diet lost 15 kg (33 lb) each.

He says in short time of low calorie diet of this type will guarantee higher success of keeping weight off than losing weight slowly.

BIWI · 05/02/2016 20:09

Yes he does - and it's very interesting, including the science behind it - but it's different from Bootcamp!

I'm very interested in what he's doing/promoting - and if you're diabetic/pre-diabetic it's something to consider seriously. But it's a very, very different WOE from Bootcamp.

I've got a 4 day work trip next week, no cooking facilities or fridge as I'm staying at a holiday inn. What can I buy each day from a small co-op that will be low carb? I'm thinking ready made salad, hopefully some total ff yoghurt?Only restaurant nearby is a table table, very little choice.

BIWI · 07/02/2016 01:08

Tinned tuna, olives, cheese, ham (and other cooked meats). Take a tin opener!

You'll presumably be able to have a cooked breakfast each morning? (Just avoid the sausages, which will be full of fillers and so very high carb)

Iamdobby63 · 07/02/2016 09:19

More of a statement than a question. I find the discrepancies of carb values rather frustrating, take our staple the cauliflower, here I think it's stated at 1.9 per 100g, Atkins has it at 1.5 per 100g and yet Tesco, Sainsburys and on the cauli rice packet has it at 3 carbs per 100g.

I have been following Atkins for a while now and to be safe I count it at 3 to be on the safe side, makes a big difference to the carb values of say a shepherds pie.

Wish I had realised this boot camp was here when I first started, I like to chat and get ideas.

GinThief · 07/02/2016 11:11

Thanks BIWI Grin

StuntNun · 08/02/2016 07:15

GinThief careful with that name around BIWI go for an all day breakfast and put the butter on your food. Sausages are generally going to be the carby ones and black pudding is pretty high carb too so limit those. I usually pack olives, pork scratchings, salted almonds and Peperamis when I'm travelling.

BIWI · 08/02/2016 07:37

Grin @ StuntNun

Iamdobby - I agree. Overall, I tend to use one source of information if I can, and just stick to that and hope that overall things average out.

However, it's also one reason why I devised Bootcamp, as I couldn't be bothered to continue to weigh and count everything!
