Week 1 - 2016 New Year Low Carb Bootcamp - weigh in here!

Morning all!

I see we have almost 90 brave souls signed up this time. Welcome everyone, and to the lurkers at the back.

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

The list is alphabetised, and all you need to do is to add your weight next to your name. Don't do anything else or touch any of the other cells! If your name isn't on the list for any reason, add it to the bottom of everyone else's names, and the lovely Sayrra will re-alphabetise the list later.

If you don't want to put your actual weight, you can index it - i.e. your starting weight is 100, and every pound you lose is one. So if you started today at 160 lbs, and in the first week lost 7lbs, then next week you'd enter 93.

Also, don't feel that you have to weigh today - you might prefer to make another day of the week your weigh-in day. Up to you - but the spreadsheet is there as a resource to help you track how it's all going.

Re weighing, if you can, weigh first thing in the morning, naked, and before you eat or drink anything else. Don't weigh later on in the day, as all you're doing is weighing yourself plus whatever you've had to eat or drink. And use the same scales. Remember, it's not the actual weight that the scales tell you, more the weight that you've lost that counts.

Some people prefer to weigh every day - I'm one of them, as it helps to keep me focused - and some prefer to weigh once a week. It's up to you which you prefer. Bear in mind, though, that if you weigh every day you are very likely to see the scales fluctuate, which means that they may go up for no apparent reason. This is totally normal, as your weight can fluctuate on a daily basis (especially if your period is due). But psychologically it can be quite difficult - so if you don't think you'd be able to cope with this, then weekly weighing is for you.

I'm going to start a questions thread now as well. In the first few weeks of Bootcamp the chat thread can move very quickly, and it's easy for posts to get missed - so if you have a particular burning question, it's probably best to post it on the dedicated thread. And if we can all keep an eye on the questions thread, rather than just me, we can get everything answered quickly!

First day gone well here, leftovers for breakfast, ham salad for lunch and chicken for dinner. Haven't drunk this much water in ageeeeees (always hardest bit for me) and been on loo all day. Lets crack this!

Patapouf · 18/01/2016 22:33

I really haven't eaten enough today and the sugar cravings are driving me mad. Had no food in the house and I know full well that preparedness is key for surviving BC for me.

B: 1 scrambled egg in butter
L: 1 chicken skewer and lettuce
D: streaky bacon, leeks in butter and broccoli roasted with garlic and chilli.

Only managed 2lt water today so I have to chug a bit more before bed.

Meal planning tonight and big food shop tomorrow!

momofgirls · 18/01/2016 22:35

Thanks milkmilk some nice snacks listed I think this is the hard bit planning the low carbs in your diet.
Particularly when rest of family are eating high carb.

Gcalgske · 18/01/2016 23:52

jerm come see me in two weeks, I'll sort you out with a recipe for pancakes!

lifeinthemiddle · 19/01/2016 00:11

What is " Ubercamp " pls ? Roaming around on spreadsheet......

CalmYoBadSelf · 19/01/2016 00:36

jerm I make a pancake from 1oz cream cheese, 1 egg, vanilla and sweetener, cinnamon, etc to taste. It is very nice

Jerm123 · 19/01/2016 00:49

Gcal, Calm
Thanks, I usually make pancakes for breakfast on Sunday. My husband and son were commiserating with each other that I wouldn't if I couldn't have them too.
As soon as I can use sweetener and almond, I will be experimenting. We can all swap recipes.

milkmilklemonade12 · 19/01/2016 01:09

calm that sounds good! Tbh I can imagine vanilla would be enough to sweeten; pancakes are often quite savoury anyway. You could top with whipped cream mixed with vanilla or Rose essence.... That would be delicious!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/01/2016 02:55

Parmesan wafers (sorry it's taken so long for me to remember!!)
200g grated parmesan (I use the bags of pre-grated)
2 tbsps olive oil
seasoning - including herbs for flavour if you like, and/or chilli flakes

You're also supposed to use 2tbsps flour in the original recipe, but obvs not for boot camp!

mix together with a spoon then place on an oiled baking sheet in either rounds or fingers, whichever you prefer - place in a pre-heated oven (190 deg C) and bake for 10mins, then turn wafers over and bake for another 3-5 mins until golden brown.

I don't have a proper recipe for the lamb mince meatballs, I just throw things together in a bowl and mix it (lamb mince, onion salt, egg, Boursin cheese) and then fry the things in a pan or cook them in the oven, until they're done.

Today didn't start well as I didn't wake up until 11:30am. This was due to being at the hospital from 00:30 - 3am, because I had something stuck to my pupil and couldn't wash it out. Took that long to see the eye doctor to make sure it wasn't scratched (it wasn't, thank goodness!) - the thing itself came out after about 2hours of my eye going ballistic with pain and weeping but it was still sore. Still not quite right now, but that's because the eyelid is sore and a bit swollen. Got antibiotic drops for it though so hurrah.
So - no breakfast!
Lunch though - 2 HB eggs mashed with mayo, with grated cheddar, chopped lettuce and other leaves (baby spinach, rocket, basil, coriander) and grated cucumber plus water to drink.

Wanted to ask BIWI - what's the call on fruit flavoured teas? Are they allowed or not?

SayrraT · 19/01/2016 06:56

thumb just check the individual tea, some have carbs and some don't.

BIWI · 19/01/2016 07:32

That sounds grim, Thumb Sad Glad your eyeball isn't scratched though! As Sayrra says, usually they're fine, but you do need to check.

Check out the recipe thread for Parmesan crisps - the recipe is even easier than Thumb's!

lifeinthemiddle Ubercamp is a 3 day, very low carb/no dairy plan. On the spreadsheet you'll find meals/recipes/shopping lists for different 3 day plans - one is based on meat and eggs, one is meat but no eggs and one is fish and eggs. It's a very useful way to kickstart things, or if you need to get back on track, or if you think you might have a dairy problem. But it is very low carb though, so not really what you should be doing all the time

lavenderhoney · 19/01/2016 08:01

If anyone happens to be on the spreadsheet can you please put me down as 100? Thank you :) I forgot to ask yesterday.

Feeling quite virtuous after yesterday:) just coffee and cream for breakfast this morning and some fatty bacon after making DC breakfast.

ChesterDrawers · 19/01/2016 08:02

Morning all, good day yesterday and feeling back on track. Good to see lots of chat, the last BC was so quiet by the end, it definitely helps to keep me focussed.

Today:s plan:
B: eggs scrambled in butter, bacon, mushrooms in butter, 2x black coffee
L: garlic prawns, salad, avocado
D: spag Bol, courgetti
Eve snack: BPC

I never realised we should limit BPCs to one a day - any reason for this? I only tend to have one anyway, if that, but just wondering. Also I always thought herbal tea counted towards the total water intake - is that not the case?

Got evil circuits class tonight, took three days to recover last week!

ami9 · 19/01/2016 08:15

Good Morning☺
Good day yesterday 4 me too. Had 2 boiled eggs with black coffee and a cheese atring 0.3 carbs for breakfast, lunch was chicken kebabs home made fried in butter and dinner was 2 kebabs and chicken soup with another cheese string. Mondays tues and wed are very busy days for me. I felt drained in the evening and instead of eating junk I just distracted myself by reading a book. I did have cravings yesterday however all your posts kept me on track so Thank You☺ what is BPC? once again Thank You BIWI for this bootcamp xx

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 19/01/2016 08:17

Starting weght of 13stone 11.5lbs.

Yesterday I ate....

Spinach and mango smoothie
Tomato and sweet potato soup
Courgette bolognase
A muller light yoghurt.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 19/01/2016 08:20

BPC = bulletproof coffee, ami

Thanks re. the fruit teas, might be a bit tricky as the one I have is printed all in Russian but I expect there is a nutrition panel in English on it somewhere, there should be!

Eyelid still swollen but getting better - hurrah!

Dinner - haven't worked it out yet but quite fancy having smoked salmon and courgette fritters, if I can work out how to do it :)

BIWI · 19/01/2016 08:46

ami - where is your veg or salad?! We're not doing a 'no' carb plan, we're 'low' carb! You must eat veg and salad with your meals - that's where your carbs should be coming from.

MushroomTree · 19/01/2016 08:48

Weighing in at 157lbs.

I've been easing myself back into Bootcamp since just after Christmas but haven't bootcamped properly since last summer.

Need to shed at least 10lbs I think so hopefully that will all go this bootcamp. Good luck everyone!

mustbemad71 · 19/01/2016 08:48

Morning all!

Feeling positive today after a good day yesterday - managed the water although up for the loo during the night Confused

Today's plan:

B was 2 scrambled eggs, mushrooms fried in butter and raw spinach. 2 coffees with dbl cream.

L will be remains of last night's low carb fish our from recipe thread with steamed broccoli.

D - going out with inlaws so will go for something like sea bass or salmon fillet with veggies.

Have a good day everyone and thanks again to BIWI and the other BC gurus!

BIWI · 19/01/2016 08:49

WhoTheFuckIssimon

Have you read Bootcamp rules?!

Spinach and mango smoothie

The spinach is fine, but mango is fruit, which is not allowed on Bootcamp/the first two weeks of Bootcamp!

Tomato and sweet potato soup

There are around 17g carbs per 100g for sweet potato, so this was not a low carb soup!

Courgette bolognase

That sounds fine - what was in the Bolognese though?^

muller light yoghurt

No, no, no, no!!!

WE DON'T EAT LOW FAT PRODUCTS ON THIS WOE! And do you know how many carbs there will have been in that yoghurt?

Please go and read the rules of Bootcamp - you aren't following a low carb plan here at all!

Mookbark · 19/01/2016 08:57

Oo, BIWI has got her big stick out already. ShockGrin

Raring to go today.
B - 1x coffee with cream, babybel
L - leek, mushroom and pancetta muffins with green salad
D - Mexican chicken stew with courgetti
S - spicy chai latte

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 19/01/2016 09:05

Morning all :)

Have a stinking headache so just having a bpc for breakfast as i cant even look at proper food. Think its cause i twanged my shoulder rather than being diet related - i know the usual two culprits are salt and water, yet i had both 3l of water (plus herbal tea on top of that) yesterday and a strong cup of marmite tea mid-afternoon

Mookbark · 19/01/2016 09:08

Chester I think the BPCs are limited to one because they are so calorific.

onwego · 19/01/2016 09:12

Boiled egg with butter and salt for breakfast. I've made a big salad for lunch with tuna mayo. Dinner will be courgette, shallots, chilli, cabbage and king prawn stir fry. And lots and lots of sparkling water - spent a lot of yesterday at work dashing to the loo. I've been low carbing for a few weeks and someone at work commented that I'd lost weight yesterday. It definitely works (as long as we stick to the rules!)

BIWI · 19/01/2016 09:12

WhoTheFuckIsSimon

Don't know which flavour you had, obviously, but in a cherry Muller Light yoghurt there are 12g carbs.

That's way, way too many.

If you'd had the similar equivalent of full fat Total natural yoghurt you would have had 6.65g carbs instead. Plus the fat, which you should be having.
