BIWI · 29/06/2015 10:06

Morning all.

On a train now and access to Google docs is blocked, so I can't link to the spreadsheet I'm afraid. So if someone else could do that I'd be very grateful.

Breakfast at Leon this morning so a good low carb start to the day. Two poached eggs and truffled ham hock.

Good luck to everyone this week and thanks for all your good wishes. Forgive me if I'm not around and posting that much this week.

Hello all and welcome new faces

gcal, yes a slug is a bit much!!! I do a capful of ACV in a large glass of water. Meant to say that it sorted DSs finger wart in two days, just put some on soaked in cotton wool and taped it on and it went black and I literally scraped it off to reveal new skin underneath so if it does that to a virus externally surely it does some good inside and if not it jazzes water up a bit

B - nothing as not hungry and too busy, a cup of tea and a coffee with cream kept me going until lunchtime no probs - amazed I can do this sometimes, I love being more in control rather than a slave to food and mealtimes, plus it have me a much needed half an hour extra to get things done
l - conch fritters and Greek salad, not perfect but last chance to have them so went for it, another cup of tea, sq dark choc
D 2 lc chipolatas, swede mashed with butter, leftover cheesy leeks

ditavonteesed · 04/07/2015 05:33

another day another shift, I bought myself a lot of bootcamp friendly treats last night so I can stay on path easier. and dh will be here when I get home today so no chance of being weak.

,waves hello. to 10 lbsleft. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
I am not expecting a loss this week but if I can manage a sts I will be hapy.

StoneFoxMama · 04/07/2015 07:48

Hi 10lbs left! I'm sure green beans and cabbage are both good, especially with butter or oil.

I'm making a goats cheese and asparagus tart using the fathead pizza crust as a base today for supper with garlic chilli broccoli. Will probably have avocado, brie and bacon salad for lunch. Going to introduce berries this week, and dark chocolate next week.

WineCheeseSleep · 04/07/2015 09:10

Hi 10lbsleft, welcome! If you click on the spreadsheet link that dita posted in the second post of this thread you'll see a tab called Veg counter (or similar). It shows you which veg you should be eating but you should concentrate on the ones that are 3g/100g Carb or less. I think the two you mention are on the allowed list but more than 3g so you shouldn't ready them too much.

WineCheeseSleep · 04/07/2015 09:11

And by ready I mean eat of course!

miffy49 · 04/07/2015 13:43

Funny about the wart lex. When I first started with FMS my DH would come home with every mad 'cure' going, one of which was a kombucha culture. Basically its a mother culture for a vinegar that you take in water like the acv. DS2 decided he would give it a go to see if it helped with his rhinitis. Neither of us gained any benefit for the problems we tried it for but DS had been plagued with loads of warts that nothing would shift, (not a good look for a chef!) Within the space of just a week every last one had dropped off! I don't know if it was an internal effect or if it was due to him splashing it down his fingers ladling it out of the jug. Either way they never came back. Grin

BIWI · 04/07/2015 15:21

Welcome seaoflove!

Sorry you haven't had the results that you wanted. Why not list out for us the meals that you've been eating over the last few days, and see if there's anything obvious we can help with?

And I'm with you about the not counting stuff! That's exactly why I created Bootcamp - so there isn't any weighing or counting.

BIWI · 04/07/2015 15:22

I'm back home now, and pleased to report that my DF's condition is a lot more stable, although he's still in a lot of pain.

I've had a carbtastic last ten days though, as my DB/SIL's house is a fat-free, extra low calorie zone. But back to normal now.

OP posts:
seaoflove · 04/07/2015 16:34

Thanks billabye, miffy, BIWI Smile

It's just that I did some "practice" low carbing before I started Bootcamp proper, and lost 7lbs, so I was expecting the stricter menu to definitely continue the downward trend. But I still am only seven weeks postnatal, so there could be all sorts of hormonal things going on. Periods haven't returned yet, although I expect they will soon.

Last two days' eating:

B - FF Greek yoghurt, coffee with cream
L - picky plate of celery, Philadelphia, pate and sliced cheddar (with added butter)
D - bolognese (home made with added panchetta and mushrooms) with courgette slices fried in butter because I don't have a spiralizer Wink
Snack - avocado with EVOO, coffee with cream

B - cheese omelette and mushrooms, both cooked in butter, coffee with cream
L - tuna with full fat mayo, buttered broccoli
D - will be chipolatas with some sort of leeky creamy mustardy concoction from the recipe thread

BIWI · 04/07/2015 16:51

Well you could be suffering from the infamous weeks 3, 4 and/or 5, where it's pretty common for weight loss to slow down or even go into reverse.

And being post-natal, yes, I suspect you're being a bit demanding of your body!

One observation I'd make is that your meals are very dairy-heavy. It's something that does impede weight loss for a lot of people, so if I were you I'd cut that right back. Make sure you're compensating with other fats though - fatty cuts of meat, oily dressings on salads, etc.

And you haven't said how much water you're drinking ... Grin

How much weight do you have to lose?

OP posts:
LexLoofah · 04/07/2015 17:21

Hello all

miffy there is definitely something powerful and active in the cultured stuff thats for sure, I love kombucha and kefir shame it is off the menu for us

Just back from breakfast at the Ritz Carlton on seven mile beach, one of the things we promised ourselves we would do before we left. Ate loads of smoked salmon, smoked trout, cheese, bacon, some berries, a coffee and a tea, resisted the fab looking pastries, planning on skipping lunch as having an early tea later after trip to turtle farm which is on DSs bucket list

billabye · 04/07/2015 17:48

Biwi, I'm glad your DF is a little better. That must be a relief.

Lex, Your weekend sounds amazing! Envy

BIWI · 04/07/2015 17:56

Thanks billabye. It is indeed. Still a long way to go, but the immediate danger seems to have gone. We had 3 calls from the hospital over the last 10 days telling us we had to get down there as he had taken a turn for the worse, and it's a horrible, horrible thing.

Just popping in to say hello as I have not been on the thread yet. I've been very busy organising a conference which ended yesterday. I am absolutely exhausted!!

Will be back on Monday properly to catch up and record my (probably increased) weight.

ditavonteesed · 04/07/2015 20:02

biwi glad he's more stable, sorry you are going through this it is horrible.

I have had a succesful day, having bought myself loads of lc treats has got me over the post shift exhaustion. I need that bootcamp energy back. I promise now to be perfect for the coming week as I have been slipping bit by bit over the last fornight and my energy and weight loss has suffered as a consequence.

We have booked a weekend away to centre parks in september and I want to look good in a lovely vintage swimsuit so there is a new deadline on the block.

WineCheeseSleep · 04/07/2015 20:14

BIWI, I'm glad he is a bit more stable now. I've been there myself and knowing you might get a call really weighs on you. Fingers crossed for you and your family.

seaoflove I did the exact same thing as you. Lost half a stone doing a pretty half-baked version of Bootcamp and then had much slower weight loss when doing it properly. I think second attempts are often slower for some reason. For me it's been slow but fairly steady and crucially for me, easy to stick to and I could imagine sticking to this long term.

seaoflove · 04/07/2015 20:38

Too much dairy you say, BIWI? Oh heck, I had no idea! I must admit, as I'm so new to this, I'm REALLY struggling with the "high fat" part of LCHF, as in, really lacking imagination when it comes to putting meals together.

So, aside from "protein + salad leaves and oil" or "protein + veg and butter" I really don't know what I can eat. Hence the cheese and the cream Blush Or is the slightly plain, meat and two veg kind of eating integral to Bootcamp, until you switch to Bootcamp Lite?

Ok, if I cut out the dairy in meals can I keep having two coffees with cream per day? I NEED coffee and can't drink an Americano black Grin And you aren't counting butter as dairy, right? Butter is unlimited for everyone, regardless of dairy sensitivity?

I have around 20lb to lose. And I'm short (5' 3") so it shows!

Water? Well, I've been struggling to reach the 3l mark, much to my annoyance because it needn't be difficult. But with a baby and a nearly four year old I just plain forget to drink. I'd say I've been averaging 2-2.5l per day.

Glad you're with me on not wanting to log everything on MFP. It's a great tool, but the weighing and measuring and estimating gets very old, very quickly for me!

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions when you have so much on your plate. And thanks winecheesesleep for the reassurance Smile

Gcalgske · 04/07/2015 21:04

There is an often talked of low carb diet phenomenon called 'the golden shot'. Basically the first time will always be the easiest and quickest so you should therefore stick to it and maintain. Great in theory.
I had my golden shot in my early twenties, did Dr Atkins 2002 edition when it was all the rage and went from a huge and unhappy size 26 to a 12/14 in less than a year. It was so easy to stick to, but I cheated regularly and I drank like a pissed fish throughout and the weight still fell off.
It's as if the body learns what you are trying to do and figures out how to retain its fat stores.

BIWI · 04/07/2015 22:37

seaoflove have you had a look at the recipe thread? (It's stickied at the top of the Bootcamp section) Lots of things to inspire you there! You don't have to stick to 'meat and two veg' to make it work.

I generally cook the same food for me and the rest of the family - although I leave out the carb element for me. So tonight, we had roast pork, with the crackling, and roasted veg. Fennel, peppers, chillies, garlic, onion, cherry tomatoes and new potatoes, all in lots of olive oil. I ate all the veg except the potatoes.

seaoflove · 04/07/2015 22:50

I did start looking (and took a few screenshots) but I need to take some time and delve back in.

So can I still have coffee with cream?

BIWI · 04/07/2015 22:56

I don't know! Why don't you experiment? Try a week with minimal dairy and see what happens. If you need any help, look for Ubercamp on the spreadsheet (tabs at the bottom); three days' worth of dairy-free menus. Could be worth a try!

OP posts:
seaoflove · 04/07/2015 23:04

I'd forgotten about Ubercamp, will definitely give that a try. What I need right now is someone to do some meal planning for me Wink

WineCheeseSleep · 04/07/2015 23:18

stonefoxmama I meant to say, I have a clomid baby (toddler now). Best of luck!

Gcalgske · 05/07/2015 00:01

BPC

2 Big Macs sans buns and sauce (best of a bad lot, I hadn't planned to be out at lunchtime and I was hungry!!)

Torrential rain here today so wanted something wholesome and comforting. So cottage pie with cauli mash topping for dinner. I use 450g beef mince and really brown it then add leek, garlic, mushrooms and, beef stock and red wine then simmer most of the day in the slow cooker. I make mash (cauli today but I like swede too, sweet potato for dd and regular mash for dh). Into their dishes I put whatever carbier veg (frozen peas, carrots etc) they want and mix in the mince then top with the mash and bake for 25 mins. 450g mince will make 2 portions each for me, hubs and toddler. I make it in individual oven dishes. Got some lovely little le cruset-esque ones from home bargains a few weeks back.

Coffee with cream in the afternoon.

Drank 5 pints of water with ACV and Berroca in another pint so over the 3l
Slipped up a bit (bclite but too much) 1/4 bar (so 25g) of green and blacks 85% eaten over the course of the day. That stuff is very naughty and evilly tempting.

LexLoofah · 05/07/2015 02:52

billabye it was a perfect day, we had early dinner at a beach bar with our neighbours and good friends who are also leaving, just one of those lovely afternoons: sat out on the deck, sun going down, everyone else having a beer, felt like we were on holiday so was a bit lax and had cracked conch which was marvelous but involves breadcrumbs but last chance for a long time so happy to indulge. Also had conch ceviche which was yummy too. Hmm no veg today, must make up for that tmrw

BIWI glad your DFs condition has improved, you must be exhausted Flowers but your dinner sounds lovely
